Abstract:
The sport of boxing is widely practiced around the world, and to compete internationally atthe World championships and the Olympic games, boxers need a high fitness level and one ofthe tools used to achieve a high fitness level is physical and physiological testing formethodological monitoring and planning of training. The aim of this thesis was to study therelationship between training time in boxers, as in the recalled number of weekly traininghours, and the results from four different tests, upper body Wingate anaerobic test (UWAnT),countermovement jump (CMJ), hand grip strength (HGS) and isometric mid-thigh pull(IMTP). The choice of each tests is discussed from a physiological perspective to show itsassociation to boxing performance. Testing consisted of one testing session, which was heldduring a competition period, and 16 male boxers (age=23±5 years) in the senior ranks wereincluded. The results showed that the number of weekly training hours had a weak correlationto HGS (r=0.236, r2=0.056), a strong correlation to CMJ(r=0.570. r2=0.325), a moderatecorrelation to peak isometric strength in IMTP (r=0.343, r2=0.118), a weak correlation torelative peak isometric strength in IMTP (r=0.189, r2=0.036) and a strong correlation to peakanaerobic power, relative peak anaerobic power and the fatigue index in UWAnT (r=0.574,r2=0.329; r=0.769, r2=0.591; r=0.641, r2=0.411 respectively). In the thesis, the appliedmethods and the group of participants included are also discussed to find a suitable way ofstudying the relationship between these and other tests that could be suitable to explaindifferent characteristics of boxing performance. Based on the findings in the thesis, it wasconcluded that HGS and IMTP do not explain strength in boxing performance and, therefore, should be studied further. Also, it was concluded that the different variables in UWAnT andCMJ do explain anaerobic power and capacity and lower body explosive strength in boxingperformance and could, therefore, be used as sport-specific test for boxing.

Alder, David B. "Anticipation and visual search in elite sport : the effects of anxiety, training and expertise." Thesis, Liverpool John Moores University, 2015. http://researchonline.ljmu.ac.uk/4530/.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis was to examine the influence of high-anxiety, training and expertise-level on perceptual-cognitive skills in the sport of badminton. First, the coupling between observed badminton serves, visual search behaviour and anticipation judgements of athletes ranging in expertise was investigated. Expert players produced more accurate anticipation judgements compared to novice athletes. Experts fixated vision upon body areas containing the discriminating kinematic information between serve- types more frequently and for a longer duration compared to novice players. A subsequent case-study highlighted the relationship between expertise, visual search and anticipation judgement extended to a world-class athlete. Second, the role of skill level in mediating the effects of high anxiety on anticipation and the capacity to allocate attentional resources to a secondary task was examined through high- and low-anxiety conditions. Skilled players made more accurate anticipation judgements compared to their novice counterparts, regardless of anxiety conditions. High-anxiety resulted in a decrease in secondary task performance for the novice, but not the skilled group, when compared to low-anxiety. Finding demonstrates that skilled athletes can effectively allocate attentional resources during performance, leading to the effects of anxiety being negated, whereas novices cannot. Third, a perceptual-cognitive intervention consisting of simulation training under high-anxiety conditions led to greater anticipation performance under high-anxiety and field-based conditions compared to pre-test and training under low-anxiety conditions. Overall, expert athletes make superior anticipation judgements due to different visual search behaviours and attentional resources, all of which are robust to high anxiety, when compared to lesser-skilled players, with these abilities being trainable.

Abstract:
This thesis addresses the problem of the academic identity of the area traditionally referred to as physical education. The study is a critical examination of the argu ments for the justi cation of this area as an autonomous branch of knowledge. The investigation concentrates on a selected number of arguments. The data collection comprised articles books and proceedings of conferences. The preliminary assessment of these materials resulted in a classi cation of the arguments into three groups. The rst group comprises the arguments in favour of physical education as an academic discipline. The second includes the arguments supporting a science of sport. The third consists of the arguments in favour of to a eld of human movement study. The examination of these arguments produced the following results. (a) The area of physical education does not satisfy the conditions presupposed by the de nition of academic discipline. This is so because the area does not form an integrated system of scienti c theories. (b) The same di culty emerges from the examination of the ar guments for sport science. There is no science of sport because there is no integrated system of scienti c theories related to sport. (c) The arguments in favour of a eld of study yielded more productive results. However di culties arise from the de nition of human movement. The analysis of this concept showed that its limits are not well demarcated. This makes it problematic to take human movement as the focus of a eld of studies. These aspects led to the conclusion that such things as an academic discipline of physical education sport science and eld of human movement studies do not exist. At least there are not such things in the sense of autonomous branches of knowledge. This does not imply that a more integrated inquiry based on several disciplines is not possible and desirable. This would enable someone entering phys ical education to nd a more organised structure of knowledge with some generally accepted problem situations procedures and theories on which to base professional practice.

Abstract:
Recreation has been a major force in enhancing the quality of life in a modern society. The provider must try to fulfil the requirements of the recreational users and has to focus on the quality of the products it delivers. As a recreational destination the National Park must offer opportunities to satisfy the diverse needs and requirements of the visitors. This involves establishing recreational participation patterns, preferences and the related demands and benefits to the users. In turn, a suitable user fee must be established and explained to recreational users in order to enhance their appreciation of costs. The study focuses on the evaluation of recreational usage of the National Park. The data acquired from the survey in the area established the background of the visitors in terms of socio-economics, leisure and recreation patterns, travel characteristics, on-site recreation attributes and the interrelationships between various activities. Besides, users perspectives in relation to the incremental and improvement of the facilities, the environment and related management approaches were recognised. These findings can be useful for the development of an integrated management approach leading to social and ecological balance. In addition recreational preferences were established by valuation of the opportunities of Taman Negara based on the willingness to pay responses of the user groups. Recreational use of the Park was later evaluated using the contingent valuation method. The demand for recreation use of the Park in its existing condition is attributed to foreigners, income, education, those not visiting friends or relatives during vacation, visitors pursuing specific recreational activities, visitors accompanied by friends and visitors accompanied by their families. The demand for improved facilities is related to Malaysians, urban residents, income, education and visitors participated in bird and wildlife observation. The recreational value for existing opportunities of the Park was RM211,939 per annum and value for opportunities if improved was RM304,086 per annum. The benefits gained by the recreationists for existing opportunities was RM175017 and RM267,164 per annum for improved opportunities. The suggested entrance fees were RM3.00 for existing opportunities and RM8.00 for improved opportunities based on total revenue obtained by the management. Finally information of recreational usage and its management highlighted from the study could be used to aid the formulation of the National Park policy and better management of this area.

Abstract:
Notre recherche aboutit à la création du programme du dictionnaire franco-russe des termes de jeu sportif<br>This research aims at creating a French-Russian dictionary of sport games' terms but also at examining of sports' terminology in linguistic and epistemological aspects. We approach this terminology which is not explored as profoundly as it deserves, as a complex and heterogeneous phenomenon, from sociolinguistic and cultural point of view, but most of all, in the context of intercultural communication. We start our research by establishing specific features of the sport games' term; we study the functioning of the term in the discourse and define the sources of the enrichment of the terminology; then we realise a comparative analysis of French and Russian terms in order to establish the equivalence necessary for the construction of the dictionary, and raise the principal questions concerning it's microstructure. Leighton, Fiona C. "Spore germination and autoinhibitor control in the cellular slime mould Dictyostelium discoideum." Thesis, University of Aberdeen, 1985. http://digitool.abdn.ac.uk/R?func=search-advanced-go&find_code1=WSN&request1=AAIU362762.

Abstract:
Conditions were optimised for the production, germination and emergence of Dictyostelium discoideum V-12 and NC-4H spores, whereas Ax-2 spores failed to germinate under these conditions. The best method of activating spores for germination proved to be heat-shock treatment. Dimethyl- sulphoxide was less efficient; peptone was not effective in this study. Washed and unwashed V-12 and NC-4-H spores attained maximum levels of germination (90-100%), and emergence (80-100%), when incubated under "shake" conditions at concentrations up to 2-5x108 spores ml-1. From this approach there was no evidence for autoinhibitor activity with respect to spore crowding. At extremely high concentrations, 1.5x109 spores ml-1, oxygen deprivation resulted in inhibition of respiration and germination in both washed, and unwashed, NC-4H cultures. Addition back of washings to spores, at concentrations 30-fold higher than those found by extraction, failed to demonstrate any inhibition of germination of NC-4H spores. Inhibition of NC-4H spore germination (50%) was demonstrated with crude spore extract at levels of 10-15mg ml-1 and 100% inhibition of germination at 20mg ml-1. 3mg crude extract per 0.2ml assay inhibited spore germination (107 spores ml-1) by 50% (this is defined as 1 SG1 unit). Although certain physiological factors affected germination, e.g. osmotic pressure, ionic strength and extremes of pH, spore germination inhibitor (SG1) activity appeared to be spore concentration dependent, indicating the presence of a specific substance, rather than an environmental effect. In this study, the SG1 extract, isolated and taken through purification procedures, was characterised as follows :- 1) the substance was acidic in nature, 2) it showed U.V. absorbing characteristics around 260nm, 3) the Rf value was 0.06-0.20 using paper chromatography with n-butanol : acetic acid : water (4:1:2) solvent system, and 4) it was pale yellow in colour and showed slight fluorescence under U.V. (366nm). Purification profiles indicated the SG1 extract NOT 2 to be N2 -dimethylguanosine or discadenine. Although cytokinin activity was present in crude autoinhibitor extracts such activity was not always associated with the SGI on purification. Considering these findings the identity and precise role of autoinhibitors in germination is discussed.

Tjondronegoro, Dian W. "PhD Thesis: "Content-based Video Indexing for Sports Applications using Multi-modal approach"." Thesis, Deakin University, 2005. https://eprints.qut.edu.au/2199/1/PhDThesis_Tjondronegoro.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
Triggered by technology innovations, there has been a huge increase in the utilization of video, as one of the most preferred types of media due to its content richness, for many significant applications. To sustain an ongoing rapid growth of video information, there is an emerging demand for a sophisticated content-based video indexing system. However, current video indexing solutions are still immature and lack of any standard. One solution, namely annotation-based indexing, allows video retrieval using textual annotations. However, the major limitations are the restrictions of pre-defined keywords that can be used and the expensive manual work on annotating video. Another solution called feature-based indexing allows video search by low-level features comparison such as query by a sample image. Even though this approach can use automatically extracted features, users would not be able to retrieve video intuitively, based on high-level concepts. This predicament is caused by the so-called semantic gap which highlights the fact that users recall video contents in a high-level abstraction while video is generally stored as an arbitrary sequence of audio-visual tracks. To bridge the semantic gap, this thesis will demonstrate the use of domain-specific approach which aims to utilize domain knowledge in facilitating the extraction of high-level concepts directly from the audiovisual features. The main idea behind domain-specific approach is the use of domain knowledge to guide the integration of features from multi-modal tracks. For example, to extract goal segments from soccer and basketball video, slow motion replay scenes (visual) and excitement (audio) should be detected as they are played during most goal segments. Domain-specific indexing also exploits specific browsing and querying methods which are driven by specific users/applications’ requirements. Sports video is selected as the primary domain due to its content richness and popularity. Moreover, broadcasted sports videos generally span for hours with many redundant activities and the key segments could make up only 30% to 60% of the entire data depending on the progress of the match. This thesis presents a research work based on an integrated multi-modal approach for sports video indexing and retrieval. By combining specific features extractable from multiple (audio-visual) modalities, generic structure and specific events can be detected and classified. During browsing and retrieval, users will benefit from the integration of high-level semantic and some descriptive mid-level features such as whistle and close-up view of player(s). The main objective is to contribute to the three major components of sports video indexing systems. The first component is a set of powerful techniques to extract audio-visual features and semantic contents automatically. The main purposes are to reduce manual annotations and to summarize the lengthy contents into a compact, meaningful and more enjoyable presentation. The second component is an expressive and flexible indexing technique that supports gradual index construction. Indexing scheme is essential to determine the methods by which users can access a video database. The third and last component is a query language that can generate dynamic video summaries for smart browsing and support user-oriented retrievals.

Abstract:
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited<br>Although the United States made considerable advances in improving sport venue security following 9/11, many sporting events remain vulnerable to attack. The perceived lack of threat to smaller venues, budget limitations and technical constraints are restricting the level of patron and vehicle screening at Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) 4–5 events. This thesis assesses the risk of attack by analyzing 21st century developments in explosive trace detection and closed-circuit television technologies, as well as trends surrounding the terrorist target value of SEAR 4–5 events. The research shows that these events have become viable, valuable terrorist targets because of increasing attendance and rapidly expanding exposure via cable television, satellite broadcasts, and the Internet. It identifies shortcomings of national protection doctrine and outlines potential cost-effective policy options to better support SEAR 4–5 sporting event venue security. Establishing a national doctrine, organizational support and training standards, along with deploying select surveillance and detection technologies, will bring untold benefits to the national protection mission.

Abstract:
Common lawyers are notoriously suspicious of legal theory. This is exemplified by the dearth of theoretical content in Australian corporate law debate. If the first sin of legal theory is “to presume that it can offer a blueprint for actual decision-making and be a substitute for judicial and lawyerly wisdom”, then surely it is an equal transgression to profess that judicial and lawyerly wisdom can for long elude criticism without a sound theoretical basis. Reasoning by analogy is commonplace. This is as true in legal reasoning as in any other discipline. Indeed, it has been suggested that in the Australian legal context analogical reasoning is the very same “judicial and lawyerly wisdom” referred to above. In order to determine whether there is a true analogy, a number of legal scholars have suggested that a variety of potential known source analogues should be carefully analysed for their potential relevance to a less familiar target analogue lest an inapt analogy should lead one into error. The modern trading company is widely regarded as an apt source analogue for resolving jurisprudential issues involving incorporated associations and societies. However the basis upon which this assertion is made has never been adequately elucidated. This thesis tests the hypothesis that the modern trading company is the most apt source analogue for developing a jurisprudence of incorporated associations and societies. This is achieved using a theoretical approach drawn from corporate realist theory that is informed by an epidemiological investigation of incorporated sporting associations and societies in Australia and New Zealand.

Although women have been present in every stage of football's sociogenesis, taking part as spectators and also practicing it, the space and visibility given to women's football highlight the innocuousness towards the sport as a career plan. Bearing such scenario, this research aims to analyze the clubs and players projects towards football as a real career plan, as well as the legal regularization of the employment relationship of the athletes. For this purpose, it was done a case study with three teams disputing the women's football Paulista Championship in 2011, by means of field diary, semi-structured interviews with directors and coaches, and focus groups with athletes. The analyzed teams showed structural disparities permeated by different issues that lead to a detachment and closeness of a professional career. The players' project shows the recognition of the sport as a professional career, nevertheless surrounded by barriers, and lack of structure and employment legitimacy. On the other hand, by analyzing the legislation, it is possible to identify that the players act in fact professionals, highlighting the illegality of the clubs employment relationship, once they do not meet the standards and rights granted by the legislation to the players. Considering the legitimacy of women's football as a career, we point to the need of CBF, federations and affiliated clubs, to grant sustainability for women's football by organizing championships and helping towards women's teams in clubs that currently maintain professional teams<br>Doutorado<br>Educação Fisica e Sociedade<br>Doutor em Educação Física

The objective of this study was to build, implement and evaluate, with teachers of Physical Education of primary education II, a proposal to teaching of volleyball in the three dimensions of content: conceptual, procedural and atitudinal. The results obtained were discussed in the perspective of working conditions, in the why and what for teaching sport (volleyball), technology and sports performance, in the dimensions of the content and features, expectations and participation of students. It was found that, in some schools, the working conditions, in relation to the physical space, the available material, the devaluation of the Physical Education or even the suspicion on the part of teachers from other areas and the direction, present themselves as obstacles to the development of this component curriculum. However, it was observed that the teachers participating successfully develop a quality education, contributing to the resizing of the importance of Physical Education in the environment of formal education. It was confirmed the possibility of developing lessons that may go beyond procedural dimension, facilitating the conceptual approach of the dimensions and atitudinais of volleyball. Moreover, it was for the effective participation of students, but it has only been due to the provision of teachers in struturing as appropriate their classes, studying, intended time for preparation of activities and offering diverse strategies that stimulated the involvement of students.<br>Mestre

Abstract:
This thesis presents a novel framework to perform single or multiple ground target finding and action missions using low-cost Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This framework enables small UAVs to overcome the challenges present in real-world outdoor environments due to localization and target detection errors, and external disturbances such as wind in target finding and action missions. This presented framework can be used for multiple autonomous and semi-autonomous UAV applications, including spot spraying in agriculture, search and rescue, and close inspection.

The objective of this study was to build, implement and evaluate, with teachers of Physical Education of primary education II, a proposal to teaching of volleyball in the three dimensions of content: conceptual, procedural and atitudinal. Abstract:
碩士<br>國防大學<br>法律學系<br>105<br>Rummage is both the main duty of police officers and an important administrative act that maintains the social order under the national sovereignty. The National Police Agency has standard operating procedures for relevant conduction. However, there are various laws and theories. Concerning disputes, the final decisions will be made by judicial adjudication. Whether the judicial personnel has a certain understanding of the relevant professional fields, or did it cross the line of administrative discretion when the administrative staff is making a conviction. Nowadays, there are more public opinions being said out loud. Many policies made by the governments are supervised by citizens. Performing duties according to laws is the only thing administrative staff does when doing their work. Many people try hard to “get released” by lodging a claim after apprehension. We can tell from the official website of National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior. The article focuses on the study of practical issues, discussing about the legitimacy of places where the police take spot check .For instance, when comparing Customs Anti-smuggling Act with Police Power Exercise Act, the legal norms and effects are completely different from the implementation of administrative inspection. The former is administrative inspection, while the latter is criminal search. When the country maintains social stability and order, protecting human rights still remains indispensible. Therefore, it is vital for us to know how to take a balance between them. The courage that urges administrators to administer affairs in accordance with the law depends on whether national laws leave out nothing required or not, and the legal attainment of nations. The police represent not only justice and impartiality, but the bridge between the government and the people. This essay based on authentic cases is going to discuss what the problems are and to propose the advice to amend the laws, in order to ensure the safety of the police while enforcing the law, maintain the rule of law and the progress of the state.

Abstract:
Por outro lado, os atributos perceptivos estudados melhoraram com treino perceptivomotor específico em ginásio, em não-desportistas, revelando a sua treinabilidade.<br>The purpose of this work was to verify if the systematic practice of team-sports, like, e.g., handball or basketball, highly perceptual-motor demanding, could make it easier to learn/practice another activity, car driving, which, with the former, shares several of those characteristics, having useful field of vision,/peripheral vision, divided attention and peripheral reaction speed as analysis parameters The literature gives us some examples of better peripheral vision of sport engaged people, compared to those who are not, and better reaction times, but it’s spare in stating some advantage in certain features of driving performance. We concluded that the team-sport engaged people we studied had greater useful fields of vision and better capacity to divide attention than individual sport players and nonplayers at all. We also found a transfer effect, from sport to driving domain, as, e.g., team-sport players had a significant lower number of non-detected peripheral light stimuli, as compared to non-players, in a closed circuit driving task. Besides, useful field of vision/peripheral vision, divided attention and peripheral reaction speed got better, with the implementation of a Perceptual-motor Program, in subjects with no significant previous sport experience, revealing their trainability.
