Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to explore the knowledge of tennis tactics of a group of South African tennis coaches. A secondary purpose was to gather their perceptions about where they believe they learned about tactics. A mixed methodology approach was used. The first was a quantitative knowledge test administered to 37 coaches. The second was a qualitative semi-structured interview with five coaches. The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference in the choices of tactical options in 43 game scenarios between the less experienced and the more experienced coaches. No differences were found between coaches who were coaching at the top level compared to the lower levels. No differences were found between coaches who had been top tennis players and those who had not. The majority of the coaches in this study reported that they had learned tactics through trial and error. Problems facing the development of top level tennis coaches in South Africa are discussed in relation to their knowledge of tactics and the priorities for the development of mass participation supported by national sport policy.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die hoofdoel van hierdie studie was om ʼn groep Suid-Afrikaanse tennisafrigters se kennis van tennistaktiek te ondersoek. ʼn Sekondêre doel was om uit te vind waar die afrigters glo hulle sodanige kennis opgedoen het. Die navorsingsbenadering het uit gemengde metodologieë bestaan. Die eerste was ʼn kwantitatiewe kennistoets wat onder 37 afrigters afgeneem is. Die tweede was ʼn kwalitatiewe semigestruktureerde onderhoud met vyf afrigters. Die resultate van die studie dui daarop dat die minder ervare en meer ervare afrigters geen beduidende verskil getoon het in hul taktiese keuses in 43 wedstrydscenario’s nie. Geen verskil is opgemerk tussen afrigters op die topvlak en dié op laer vlakke nie. Boonop was daar geen verskil tussen afrigters wat eens topspelers was en diegene wat nié was nie. Volgens die meeste van die afrigters in die studie het hulle hul kennis van tennistaktiek deur die metode van leer en probeer opgedoen. Die studie bespreek die uitdagings in die ontwikkeling van topvlaktennisafrigters in Suid-Afrika wat betref hul kennis van taktiek en die prioriteite vir die bevordering van massadeelname ingevolge nasionale sportbeleid.

Resumo: Esse estudo promove, no primeiro momento, uma discussão teórica acerca da Pedagogia do Esporte e da iniciação esportiva ao Tênis de Campo. As reflexões basearam-se a partir dos autores que defendem a proposta pedagógica do Teaching Games For Understanding (TGFU). No decorrer das discussões teóricas, foi realizado um diálogo entre as propostas desses autores e as reflexões de autores brasileiros que abordam o tema da Pedagogia do Esporte. É importante ressaltar que, a partir do encontro e da comparação das propostas de dois grupos de autores, é possível contribuir de maneira significativa para avanços da produção teórica no tema da Pedagogia do Esporte e Iniciação Esportiva. Além de contribuir com a construção de um referencial teórico, este estudo teve como objetivo verificar quais as características da Iniciação Esportiva nos 4 principais clubes do Estado de São Paulo. Para isso, foi realizada uma pesquisa de campo dividida em dois momentos: realização de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com os professores envolvidos com as aulas de iniciação esportiva nos clubes e a realização de observações não-participantes das aulas ministradas por esses professores. O objetivo das entrevistas foi o de verificar o perfil do profissional que trabalha com a iniciação esportiva à modalidade: sua formação escolar, sua experiência com a modalidade e, principalmente o de constatar quais os principais conteúdos que eles consideram que devem ser trabalhados em aulas de iniciação esportiva ao Tênis de Campo. O objetivo da observação das aulas foi o de constatar quais os conteúdos trabalhados nas aulas e quais os procedimentos pedagógicos utilizados pelo professores. A partir da pesquisa de campo, constatou-se que a maioria dos professores entrevistados não possui formação acadêmica em Educação Física, todos eles possuíam vivência na modalidade antes de se tornarem professores, e acreditavam que o ensino dos elementos técnicos da modalidade corresponde ao principal conteúdo a ser ensinado nas aulas de iniciação esportiva. Em relação aos conteúdos trabalhados durante as aulas, foi possível constatar que a preocupação central da maioria das aulas ainda é a de ensinar as habilidades técnicas da modalidade. Nesse sentido, verificamos uma disparidade entre as propostas pedagógicas de ensino do Tênis de Campo e o contexto da iniciação esportiva à modalidade constatado a partir da pesquisa de campo.
Abstract: This study promotes, initially, a theoretical discussion about Sport Pedagogy and sport initiation to Tennis. The reflections were based upon the Teaching Games For Understanding (TGFU) proposal. During the theoretical discussions, we proposed an dialogue between the TGFU ideas and the reflections of Brazilian authors that discuss Sport Pedagogy. It is important to point out that through these comparisons of two different proposals it is possible to contribute to the development of the theoretical productions of Sport Pedagogy. Besides these theoretical contributions, this study aims to verify the characteristics of sport initiation to Tennis in the 4 biggest sport clubs in the state of São Paulo. In order to do that, a field research took place in these clubs. This research was divided in two moments: first we interviewed the teachers responsible for the Tennis classes and, afterwards, we observed the classes. The purpose of the interviews was to get to know the profile of this professional involved in the process of sport initiation: the scholar level, the professional experience and, most importantly, verify what are the aspects of sport initiation classes that they consider to be more relevant in the classes. The purpose of the observation was to verify what activities are proposed during the classes. The field research showed that most of the teachers do not have a graduation degree in Physical Education, and all of them had some experience in Tennis before becoming teachers, also most of them believed that teaching the techniques should be the main purpose of the classes. Through the classes observation, it is possible to establish that most of the classes are based upon the goal of teaching technique skills. Thus, it is possible to see a disparity between the pedagogical proposals researched in the literature and the characteristics verified through the field research.

Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: Feedback is critical for motor skill learning. Knowledge of performance (KP) In the form of verbal feedback is the most commonly used type of augmented feedback. Advances in technology have made it possible for coaches to utilise video-supported feedback with athletes with the intention of accelerating the learning process. The use of videotape replay has been an effective aid under some circumstances. Recent commercially available products offer digital analysis that may be even more successful than ordinary video replay in this regard. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of knowledge of results (KR) and verbal KP with video-support in improving the learning of the tennis serve, when compared to KR with verbal KP only. A total of 18 adults (lOwomen and 8 men) were assessed on their serving technique (6 kinematic variables), accuracy (2 variables) and speed (1 variable). Technique analysis was completed using a commercially available analysis programme. For a short intervention period, one group (n = 10) received KR with verbal feedback only, while the other group (n = 8) received KR plus verbal feedback with video support. The subjects were tested after the intervention to see what changes had occurred with regards to the speed, accuracy and technique of their serves. No significant differences were found for any of the variables, leading to the conclusion that the amount oftime spent in the intervention programme must be extended in order to possibly achieve significant effects on performances.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: By die aanleer van motoriese vaardighede is terugvoer van kritiese belang. Verbale terugvoering is die mees algemene vorm van kennis oordraging aan die uitvoerder. Verbetering in tegnologie het dit nou moontlik gemaak vir afrigters om videoondersteunde terugvoer met atlete te gebruik, met die doelom die leerproses te versnel. Die gebruik hiervan is in sekere situasies 'n effektiewe hulpmiddel. Kommersiële produkte wat tans beskikbaar is bied die moontlikheid van digitale ontledings, wat dalk meer suksesvol kan wees as slegs die terugspeel van 'n video aan die uitvoerder. Die doel van hierdie studie was om die doeltreffendheid van kennis van resultate (knowledge of results) en verbale terugvoering met video-ondersteuning in die verbetering van die tennis afslaan te meet, en dit dan te vergelyk met kennis van resultate waar net verbale terugvoering verskaf is. 'n Totaal van 18 volwassenes (It) vroue en 8 mans) se afslaantegniek (6 kinematiese verandelikes), akkuraatheid van afslaan (2 verandelikes) en die spoed van die afslaan (1 verandelike) is nagegaan. Tegniekontleding is met die gebruik van 'n komersieël beskikbare analise-program gedoen. Een groep (n = l O) het kennis van resultate en verbale terugvoer gekry vir 'n kort intervensie periode. Die ander groep (n = 8) het kennis van resultate en video-ondersteunde verbale terugvoer, ook vir 'n kort intervensie tydperk ontvang. Die deelnemers is na afloop van die intervensie tydperk getoets om te bepaal watter veranderinge met betrekking tot spoed, akkuraatheid en afslaantegniek plaasgevind het. Geen beduidende verskille is in enige van die verandelikes gevind nie. Dit gee aanleiding tot 'n gevolgtrekking dat die duur van die intervensieprogram verleng moet word om 'n beduidende effek op uitvoering te kry.

Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of sport psychology injunior tennis and to determine: • whether coaches make use of psychological interventions, • whether coaches consider psychological interventions in junior tennis to be important, • what kind of psychological interventions coaches make use of, and • what kind of problems coaches encounter while teaching psychological interventions to junior tennis players. Questionnaires were mailed off to all professional tennis coaches who are registered with Tennis South Africa. The questionnaire which the coaches voluntarily answered, was an abbreviated, revised version of the questionnaire used by Gould et al. (1999a) for their study. \ The results of this study show that coaches: • regard the teaching of psychological interventions to junior tennis players as very important. • perceived the following as the most important psychological dimensions for junior tennis players: motivation, concentration, enjoyment, self-confidence and goal setting. • find the teaching process of psychological interventions to junior tennis players difficult. • encounter practical problems in the teaching of psychological interventions to junior tennis players. Lack of time is mentioned most often. Based on these outcomes, it is concluded that sport psychology has an important role to play in junior tennis. More research is needed to develop techniques and methods to effectively teach psychological interventions to junior tennis players.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die doel van die studie is om die rol van sportsielkunde in junior tennis te ondersoek deur die volgende te bepaal: • of afrigters van sielkundige intervensies gebruik maak, • of afrigters dink dat sielkundige intervensies belangrik is in junior tennis, • van watter sielkundige intervensies afrigters gebruik maak, en • watter probleme afrigters ondervind gedurende die onderrig van sielkundige intervensies aan junior tennisspelers. Vraelyste is gestuur aan aIle professionele tennisafrigters wat by Tennis Suid-Afrika geregistreer is. Die vraelys wat die afrigters vrywillig beantwoord het, was 'n verkorte, hersiene weergawe van die vraelys wat deur Gould et al. (1999a) in hulle studie gebruik is. Die resultate van die studie toon dat afrigters: • die onderrig van sielkundige intervensies aan junior tennisspelers as belangrik beskou. • die volgende sielkundige dimensies in junior tennis as die belangrikste beskou: motivering, konsentrasie, genot, selfvertroue en doelwitstelling. • die onderrigproses verbonde aan sielkundige intervensies moeilik vind. • praktiese probleme ondervind met die onderrig van sielkundige intervensies aan junior tennisspelers. 'n Gebrek aan tyd is uitgesonder as die probleem wat die meeste voorkom. Gebaseer op die resuitate, is daar tot die gevolgtrekking gekom dat sportsieikunde 'n belangrike rol te speel het in junior tennis. Verdere navorsing word benodig am tegnieke en metodes daar te stel om die sieikundige intervensies effektief aan junior tennisspelers te onderrig .

Full textTennis is an everchanging sport. New data from tennis analyst Craig O'Shannessy show that a vast majority of points are short, i.e. points decided in four or fewer shots. The player who wins most of them also tends to be the winner. The purpose of this paper is to examine the WTA tournament Sydney International 2018 to see if the same pattern occurs there and if that is the case investigate if there is any difference between how different groups are performing. A few examples of groups are match-winners against losers and seeded against unseeded players. It turns out that the lengths of the points were almost identical to O'Shannessy’s results and they influenced the matches outcome. Furthermore, match winners performed better in most categories, for example, the ratio of serves and returns in play and won. Regarding serve+1 they were able to keep an even level on both forehand and backhand side, while the losing players had some problems with their backhands. With that said, there were no clear differences in serve and return patterns, apart from second serves to the deuce court. From the results, it seems like the quality of the shots is more important than where they are landing.

Full textThe data was analyzed with a Group (2) x Level of skill (4) repeated measures design. The analysis of variance of the TSESD and SSCI scores did not reveal any significant differences between the scores of the treatment and control groups. But comments to the open-ended questions seemed to reveal increased feelings of sport confidence, motivation and arousal associated with the videotapes, suggesting that the team highlight videotapes may have potential as mental preparation tools. Additional research is warranted to further explore the potential uses of this new mental preparation tool.

Full textStudien initierades av Svensk Tennis Syd i samarbete med Högskolan i Halmstad med avsikt att undersöka befintliga talang utvecklingsmiljöer i tennis för spelare i åldern 13-16 år. Syftet med stu- dien var att (1) undersöka retrospektiva upplevelser av talang utvecklingsmiljöer bland spelare som redan passerat fokus åldern, (2) undersöka retrospektiva och rådande upplevelser av talang utveckl- ingsmiljöer bland tennis tränare, och (3) undersöka rådande upplevelser av talang utvecklingsmil- jöer bland föräldrar vars barn är aktiva i tennis inom fokus åldern. Studien bestod av 14 deltagare som hade koppling till tennisklubbar inom Svensk Tennis Syds arbetsområde. Data samlades in genom tre fokusgruppsintervjuer som bestod av spelare, tränare och föräldrar. Åtta huvudteman framkom i data analysen: klubbatmosfär, organisation av träningsgrupper, träningsmängd, kvali- teten på träning, tillgång till experthjälp, tävlingsmängd, kombination av skola och tennis, och för- äldrainvolvering. Varje tema analyserades inom gruppen och mellan de tre grupperna. Resultaten visade på uppfattningar om klubbmiljöer och framtida rekommendationer för förbättringar av talang utvecklingsmiljöer för tennisspelare i åldrarna 13-16 år.

Contudo, sendo a criatividade e o improviso inerentes ao ser humano, ambos também acabam por se manifestar em outras áreas da vida humana, como a música, a dança, o teatro e nomeadamente o desporto. Este trabalho visou perceber de que forma é que a criatividade e o improviso estão presentes no ténis de alta competição, como se manifestam, se é importante e sua existência, e que tipo de vantagens trazem para os jogadores. Teve como campo de estudo pessoas relacionadas com o ténis: jogadores, treinadores, árbitros e adeptos. Para a concretização dos objectivos previamente propostos, foram realizadas entrevistas de tipo semi-estruturadas, dirigidas presencialmente a 15 pessoas - 6 treinadores, 4 jogadores, 1 árbitro e 4 adeptos, tendo-se obtido uma taxa de 100% de participação. Estas entrevistas foram analisadas com base à técnica de análise de conteúdo temática (Bardin, 1977). Os resultados obtidos indicam que tanto a criatividade como o improviso estão presentes no ténis - talvez mais o improviso - sendo melhores descritos como identitários do ser jogador, ou seja, é necessário e importante que estas capacidades existam pois trazem vantagens aos jogadores.
Due to all the changes that happened on global world one of the key elements to have competitive advantage on organizations that act in it is: creativity and improvisation. In recent years we have developed several studies on this subject demonstrating that this competitive advantage occurs when creativity is addressed according to their context. However, with the creativity and improvisation inherent in the human being, eventually manifest itself in other áreas of human life, such as music, dance, theater and particulary sport. This study aim to understand how creativity and improvisation are present in top-level tennis, how are manifested, its importance and its existence, and what kind of benefits they bring to the players. It had as studie field people related to tennis: players, coaches, referees and fans. To meet the previously proposed objectives semi-structured type of interviews weres conducted in person addressed to 15 people - 6 coaches, 4 players, 1 referee and 4 fans, having obtained a rate of 100% stake. These interviews were analyzed using the thematic content analysis (Bardin, 1977). The results show that both creativity and improvisation are present in tennis - perhaps more improvisation - is best described as the identity of a player, and i tis necessary and important that these capabilities exist because they bring advantages to players.

Full textCom a síntesis d’aquest procés d’investigació, les asimetries detectades en els diferents esports multidireccionals mostren variabilitat en les magnituds segons la prova seleccionada. A més, en l’anàlisis individuals les proves realitzades, s’ha pogut observar que els esportistes mostren preferències en l’habilitat de la cama en funció de la prova. El test de salt vertical, la variable del COD i canvi de direcció amb resistència iso-inercial mostra majors magnituds en la detecció d’asimetries en esports multidireccionals. El canvi de direcció amb resistència iso-inercial permet, detectar les asimetries en accions pròximes a l’esport. Per un altre costat, els nostres resultats també mostren que les asimetries influeixen negativament en el rendiment de salt, canvi de direcció, capacitat de repetir canvis de direcció i velocitat en esprint lineal. Full textDual-process models distinguish implicit and explicit ways of information processing (Strack & Deutsch, 2004). Implicit processes are based on associative affective networks and operate fast and unconsciously. Explicit processing is a cognitive, usually slow, deliberate, and conscious way of decision-making. Dual-process models of motivation propose that implicit motives predict long-term behavior and explicit motives predict deliberate decisions (McClelland, Koestner, & Weinberger, 1989). Up-regulation of positive affect and down-regulation of negative affect activate implicit cognitive systems while regulation in the opposite direction triggers explicit information processing (J. Kuhl, 2000a). Within three field studies it is investigated whether implicit vs. explicit motivational processes are of discriminant validity for professional athletic behavior in unconsciously vs. consciously critical situations. In study one and two, tennis (N = 60) and basketball professionals’ (N = 56) abilities to regulate positive and negative affect (ACS-90; J. Kuhl, 1994) are assessed. In study three (N = 86) the additional measures of implicit (OMT; J. Kuhl & Scheffer, 1999) and explicit motives (PRF; D. N. Jackson, 1999) as well as conscious self-regulation (VCQ; J. Kuhl & Fuhrmann, 1998) are used. Study one proposes that explicit processing supports performance in objective critical situations (tie breaks) in tennis. However, in consciously critical situations no advantage for explicitly processing athletes could be found. In study two implicitly processing basketball players perform better in objectively critical games. In the final study racquet sportsmen who process explicitly perform better in consciously critical situations. In contrast, in unconsciously critical situations athletes with high implicit motives gain better results. Findings are discussed from the perspective of task specificity, degree of awareness, and individual differences.

Posteriorment, i entrant en la fonamentació metodològica, s'ha fet una recerca aplicada en la mesura que s'han traslladat els conceptes recollits i revisats en el marc teòric dins de la realitat pròpia dels espais esportius de tennis, i a Catalunya. Per a dur a terme aquesta part, s'han desenvolupat propostes d'anàlisi geogràfica i territorial, esbrinant els motius de l'heterogènia distribució actual de pistes de tennis i determinant els dèficits territorials a través de l'aplicació de les eines existents del planejament.
La utilització d'aquestes eines ha facilitat la revisió dels paràmetres descriptius i classificatoris de les instal·lacions esportives, i ha permès determinar quins d'aquests paràmetres són definibles des del disseny i aplicables en el cas de les pistes de tennis. Aquest ha estat el punt de partida per a l'elaboració d'un instrument d'observació i estudi de l'espai esportiu concret (pista de tennis) en la realitat organitzativa en què sol trobar-se al nostre país (clubs).
A través de l'aplicació sobre una mostra representativa de clubs s'han cercat aquells valors del model d'anàlisi que han fet possible, per una banda acostar-se a la comprensió de l'objecte d'estudi i per altra esbrinar, amb la interrelació dels seus indicadors, els valors que proporcionen major idoneïtat quant al disseny en cada nivell d'observació.
En esta Tesis Doctoral, se ha planteado una investigación sobre las instalaciones de los clubes de tenis de Cataluña, con la intención de poder determinar unas pautas de diseño. Dada la particularidad de este tipo de instalación, que por la no poli deportividad del espacio de juego ha quedado fuera de la Xarxa Bàsica (Red Básica) especificada y estudiada por la Generalitat de Catalunya, se ha considerado conveniente realizar este estudio y aportar algunas consideraciones para su concepción y diseño. Es preciso remarcar la intención de analizar la instalación con la complejidad que nos la encontramos habitualmente, es decir, distribuida heterogéneamente en el territorio y constituida por espacios deportivos, complementarios y auxiliares.
La fundamentación teórica ha aportado la revisión de conceptos alrededor del espacio deportivo y que hacen referencia a la evolución histórica, la concepción urbanística y de planificación territorial, y la vertiente sociológica. Posteriormente, y entrando en la fundamentación metodológica, se ha realizado una investigación aplicada en la que los conceptos recogidos y revisados en el marco teórico han sido trasladados a la realidad concreta de los espacios deportivos de tenis, y a Cataluña. Para desarrollar esta parte, se han realizado propuestas de análisis geográfico y territorial, buscando los motivos de la heterogeneidad en la distribución actual de pistas de tenis y determinando el déficit territorial a través de la aplicación de los instrumentos existentes de planificación.
El uso de estas herramientas ha facilitado la revisión de parámetros descriptivos y clasificatorios de las instalaciones deportivas, y ha hecho posible la determinación de aquellos parámetros que son definibles desde el diseño y aplicables en el caso de las pistas de tenis. Este ha sido el punto de inicio para la elaboración de un instrumento de observación y estudio del espacio deportivo concreto (pista de tenis) según la forma organizativa que suele encontrarse en nuestro país (clubes).
A través de la aplicación sobre una muestra representativa de clubes se han buscado aquellos valores del modelo de análisis que han hecho posible, por un lado acercarse a la comprensión del objeto de estudio, y por otro concretar, con la interrelación de sus indicadores, los valores que proporcionan mayor idoneidad en cuanto al diseño de cada nivel de observación.
In this Doctoral Thesis, research has been conducted on tennis club facilities in Catalonia, with the aim of determining some design guidelines. Given the peculiarity of this type of sports facility, which due to its non-multisport character has been left out of the Xarxa Bàsica (Basic Network) specified and studied by the Generalitat de Catalunya, then we believe it is necessary to begin this study and provide some considerations for their conception and design. It is important to point out that we intend to study these facilities with the complexity with which we usually find them, that is to say, with a heterogeneous distribution in the territory and made up of sports, complementary and auxiliary spaces.
The theoretical base has provided a review of concepts surrounding the sports space and their historical evolution, their urban planning and the sociological aspects. Later, and going into the methodological foundations, applied research has been carried out because the concepts, collected and reviewed in the theoretical framework have been applied in the specific reality of the tennis courts, and in Catalonia. To carry out this part, we have developed proposals for geographical and territorial analysis, searching for the reasons for the current heterogeneous distribution of tennis courts and determining territorial deficits through the implementation of existing planning tools.
The use of these tools has facilitated the review of the descriptive and classifying parameters of sports facilities and it has allowed us to determine which of these parameters are definable from design and to be applied in the case of tennis courts. This was the starting point for the creation of an instrument to observe and study specific sports spaces (tennis courts) in the organisational reality that we normally find in our country (clubs).
Applying this to a representative sample of clubs, we search for the values of the analysis model which on the one hand make possible the approach to understanding the object of study, and on the other hand, to know, with the interrelation of its indicators, the values that provide greater suitability for the design in each level of observation.

Full textFrom the board game in the worldly salons in the beginning of the 20th century to the sought-after sport in 1932 and 1933, this ball game breaks a reductive representation of fashion, mostly about clothing. Ping-pong, which is originally a simple game box, knows two major popular movements during the first half of the 20th century. In 1902, the trend is about salon entertainment, a pretext for social distinction. Taking place after diners in the wealthy bourgeoisie, straightness of the body is required. This game respects the gallantry code, which makes is a slow game. Its popularity is the upper class fades from 1903 when the game knows a democratisation in the petty bourgeoisie and the middle class. Eking out as a trivialsalon game, ping-pong reappears as a novelty in 1932 and 1933. It is described as a sporting show magnified by its champions, their technical feats and physical efforts. It also gains in popularity as it enters the habits of the working class. This sporty recognition in social representations is effective a few years after its institutionalisation. Monolithic vision, fashionalso hides and revives other tendencies. A bourgeois reminiscence makes it a popular game in the holiday destinations. It also expands in the coffee shops. Once passed its height, pingpong as a « sport » loses members in the federations in the middle of the 1930s. Its sporty image falters. This phenomenom explains itself by the hardly mesurable place of the informalgame, which satisfies the players. This entertainment is perceived as a relaxing game, as an informal way to practice sport out of the institutions

Full textBakgrund: Ledskador är komplicerade. På grund av det låga blodflödet till senor och ligament, tar de månader eller år att läka; visa skador läker aldrig helt. Det här kan vara förödande för såväl elitatleter som arbetande och gemene man. Tekniker idag som kan detektera uppkommande inflammation eller skada, kostar 15 000 US dollar och mer. En billigare teknik skulle ha en större tillgänglighet. Det här projektet undersöker möjligheten att detektera en uppkommande inflammation genom att mäta den lokala skintemperaturen. Metod: En modell av en arm byggdes i Comsol Multiphysics, där en tennisarmbåge (lateral epikondylit) simulerades genom en lokal temperaturökning. Kliniska tester utfördes på två friska subjekt, för att skapa en bil av hur skintemperaturen varierar på friska personer. Resultat: Vid en inner temperaturökning om 0,25 K i LE, uppmättes en temperaturökning på huden om 0,18 K i modellen. De kliniska testerna på friska subjekt indikerade att en korrelation finns mellan temperaturerna på och runt armbågsleden. Diskussion: Resultat från modellen saknar felkällor, som exempelvis variation av rumstemperatur och andra faktorer som påverkar subjektets kroppstemperatur, som tid på dagen, mat- och träningsrutiner.De kliniska testerna uppvisar ett mönster av temperaturdistributionen hos friska subjekt på och runt armbågsleden. Att ett mönster finns, banar väg för att hitta avvikelser, som orsakas av uppkommande inflammation. Slutsats: Modellen indikerar att en lokal temperaturökning i LE är mätbar på huden. Det kliniska testet indikerar att bruset i temperaturdistributionen hos ett friskt subjekt, är litet nog för att möjliggöra detektion av en lokal temperaturavvikelse. Vid en lokal ökning av hudtemperatur med mer än 0,5 K, indikerar resultaten att avvikelsen är detekterbar. Vid analys av modellresultaten, innebär 0,5 K hudtemperatursökning en temperaturökningi LE om ungefär 0,7 K. Det är innan inflammation har brutit ut, som sker vid en ökning om 1,5 till 2,2 K. Vidare studier är intresssant att göra, i ändamål att utveckla en prisvärd produkt som kan detektera om en inflammation är på väg, och därigenom göra det möjligt för subjektet att stoppa förloppet. En prototyp behöver utvecklas för att kunna utföra tester på fler subjekt. Utöver människor, är hästindustrin en målgrupp – prototypen bör därför utvecklas för att passa båda grupperna.

Full textBackground: Agility is an important ability in tennis and should be trained and evaluated on a regular basis. In this project a newly developed tennis specific reactive agility test is presented. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the agility test. A second aim was to analyze correlations between agility performance and physical abilities. Method: The sample consisted of 18 tennis players (9 males and 9 females; age 14.5 ± 1.5) who competed at regional and national level. The variables comprised body dimensions, sprint speed, jump height measures, single leg balance, change of direction speed (CODS) and reactive agility (RAG). Results: The results showed a high absolute reliability (CV%: 2.69–4.28%) and high relative reliability (ICC:0.802–0.943). Physical abilities that correlated with agility performance was jump height, sprint speed and reactive strength. Conclusion: The conclusion is that the newly developed reactive agility test is reliable and can be used by tennis players to evaluate agility. The test´s validity is not possible to determine, and more studies are needed.

Full textNowadays, most of tennis footwear manufacturers propose children tennis shoes that are scaled-down from adult shoes. However, children are not adult-miniature and have specific needs. Between 8 and 12 years old, children experience growth spurts that decrease the lower limb flexibility and increase the tensile forces on tendons insertion sites onto bones. In addition, the practice of tennis in high-intensity, with the repetition of accelerations and decelerations, places high tensile forces at the Achilles tendon insertion site onto the calcaneus and large compressive forces under the calcaneus. The combination of these 2 factors increase the risk to experience one of the main overuse injuries in children: Sever’s disease. Therefore, the aim of this thesis work was to define the features of a suitable footwear for children tennis players in terms of fitting comfort and limitation of injuries. Firstly, a sock equipped with textile pressure sensors was designed and its measurement reliability was validated. Then, this innovative device was used to correlate pressure measurement and comfort perception on 8 foot locations, allowing to determine the optimal inner-shoe volume for children tennis players. Secondly, the acute effects of shoe drop on the biomechanics of children tennis players were examined and it was shown that reducing from 12 mm to 6 mm allowed to reduce ground reaction forces and thus potentially impact-related injuries. Finally, the long-term influence of shoe drop reduction on the biomechanics and heel pain reported by children tennis players was investigated. The gradual reduction in shoe drop induced a switch from a rear- to forefoot strike pattern in half of the participants and allowed to remove heel pain for them. Future studies are needed to examine the lower-limb structural adaptations linked to the use of partial minimalist shoes

Full textIn high level sports is the training of techniques is an everyday event. Table tennis seems an appropriate game based on recent rule changes and developments in techniques, to evaluate how to improve technical training. The focus of this work lies on the training of techniques itself as well as the training of transitions between techniques. To test that a diagnostic (table tennis performance diagnostic for technique transitions) was developed and evaluated. The results from the diagnostic lead to conceptualize an intervention and its evaluation of techniques (phase 1) that was evaluated by inside- group and outside-group evaluators (phase 2). The experience with this intervention and evaluation was used in phase 3 to development trainings and evaluations for the transitions between techniques. The improved performance of the trainings group was superior to an evaluation group with the same training amount in respect of kinematical changes of the movements as well as with accuracy of the ball locations in respect to the assumed changes. Analyses of training competitions as well as videobased evaluations of short-term and long-term performances in real competitions demonstrated that these changes influence positively the overall performance. In addition to these results, the work helped to understand sensorimotor control processes of fast movements and methodological issues of long-term evaluation studies in high level sports. Finally consequences of this research were build in proposed training sessions.

Full textThe effects of conscious and unconscious factors on implicit and explicit motives were examined in the context of two studies. The distinct array of prediction by implicit and explicit motive diagnostic can be replicated. Though it was possible to provide evidence for the exclusive moderation of implicit motives by unconscious activity inhibition while explicit motives were moderated by conscious skills of self-regulation. Only the implicit processes (implicit motives and activity inhibition) proof a value to predicting human activity in situations coped without consciousness. In contrast only explicit processes (explicit motives and conscious skills of self-regulation) can predict the outcome of behaviour in situations coped with consciousness. The results of that paper can improve the differential prediction of direct and indirect motive diagnostic by regarding the adequate moderator factors. Further investigations will have the ability to improve the value of motivational predictors if they consider, that the level of consciousness is consistent within the situation of ascertainment the motivational predictor and the situation the criteria is imposed.

For tennis video analysis, the technology of player detection and tracking is a very important issue. We can obtain the important features such as the location of the court, and the position, the trajectory and the velocity of players, etc. By these features, the semantics of tennis video can be further extracted. The necessary processing is to separate the foreground (the players) and background (the court), then the algorithm of player detection and tracking can be developed accordingly. In this thesis, we employ the Edge Detection to eliminate the noise, then we exploit the method “Kalman-Filter based player tracking” to tracking the up-court players, moreover correcting the trajectory of player to correct the interference of up-court player trajectory. We developed a more robust, accuracy, automatic event analyze system for tennis video. We extract all events of one GAME from tennis video sequences, and analyze the features of all events. We use the relative location of players to define events in a video game. Simulation results show that the new method can effectively identify the event in a tennis game video.

Nowadays, Technological advance facilitates monitoring of human life for themselves through a set of sensors embedded in a smartphone. We can utilize these sensors for health care, monitoring the elderly health, sports expert and entertainment. In many previous investigations, they try to perform accelerometer data for off-line recognition, but in this thesis, we try to propose the use of a activity recognition of tennis activities in real-time. The values of the 3-axis accelerometer sensor are tested in a real time in a way by sending these values to the server for processing. A software application is designed to show and evaluate the best model for designing the tennis activities recognition. The results shows that the SVM algorithm using one second with window size of 20 samples achieve highest accuracy until 96.25%. To measure the level of classification accuracy in the training data, the 10 fold cross validation is performed automatically on feature matrices using machine learning algorithm which is provided by WEKA software.

In recent years, due to the popularity of sport activities, general masses or sport professionals can utilize various video recording tools to record, produce, pick and fetch useful information or interesting programs. Sport video analyses have attracted attention gradually. Sport video has an inherent structure as defined in rules of the game and field production. In addition, some highlights in the sports game such as homerun in the baseball, shot in the football and ace in the tennis make the sport video more suitable for further investigation than other types of video such as the films and news. Tennis sport video is selected as the primary domain due to its content richness and popularity. With an ongoing rapid growth of sport video information, there is an emerging demand for a sophisticated tennis content-based video indexing system. However, current video indexing solutions are still immature and lack of any standard. Artificial intelligent strategies are proposed to combine characteristics in the audio and image domain and knowledge to find the highlight. Moreover, broadcasted sports videos generally last several hours with many redundant advertisements and the key segments are not easy to find. The proposed model can be extended to different application domains, such as tennis acrobatics training, exciting news editing, and program preview in the future. Based on the experimental results, both the average of precision and recall rates are higher than 89%. This verifies that the proposed model is effective in extracting the highlights of tennis sport.

A Study of Consumers’ Behavior of Tennis Sport in Taipei Abstract The purposes of this study were to reveal the reality of tennis sport consumers in Taipei. Using the sample data by 450 tennis sport subscribers in Taipei,the present study investigates the learning behaviors of the tennis sport subscribers and divides the whole tennis sport market properly into several segments. The characteristics and behaviors of the consumers in each segment are then analyzed and described such that it may help the service providers in choosing their adequate marketing strategy. The data from the poll “ The Questionnaire of Tennis Learner’s Behavior in Taipei was processed by Descriptivestatistic,Factor analysis,Independent T-test, One-way ANOVA, Chi-square test were utilized for data analysis .The results showed that : 1. The fact of tennis learner in Taipei :Most of the tennis learner are male, take 62.6%, age focus on 6-15, take 23.5%, unmarried 61.7%,college degree 47%, still student 39.1% ,income under 20,000NT 40.9%. 2. Market segment of tennis learner life style in Taipei There are three different consuming feature group ,respectively Sport taste group, sport challenge group, fashion creative group. 3. The difference of statistic variable in each market segment .There is significant discrimination for purchasing tennis racket In age, education degree, occupation and income. No significant Discrimination in wedlock and gender. 4. The consuming behavior variability of each market segment The tennis learner in respective market have significant difference in motive,tuition budget,satisfaction of course .But there is no significant difference in information source, course plan,place,schedule,course hours .
