Abstract:
Human resource with the adequate ability and skills is of decisive importance in all organizations, irrespective of the field of activity in which they operate. It is no different with the life of sports organizations. The human resource management of sports organizations is peculiar which is influenced by, on the one hand, the operating form of an organization, on the other hand, the nature of employment. Those well-known jobs can be also found in the sport organizations which are necessary to operate an organization and carry out the general tasks, at the same time, the amateur or professional athletes turn up as specific human resources. Aim of the study is to explore the specific characteristics of the human resource management of a particular organization, namely Debreceni Egyetem Atlétikai Club Sport Nonprofit Közhasznú Kft. (University of Debrecen Athletic Sport Non-profit Public Benefit Purpose Ltd., hereinafter: DEAC Ltd.), primarily focusing on the traditional HR functions. After reviewing the domestic and international specialized literatures, the practice of the examined sport organization will be described by means of case study, document analysis and managerial interview methods. Based on the results, it can be determined that there is no separate HR manager in case of the examined sport organization, due to its size, but the managing director carries out the tasks as an economic and HR manager in one person. From the aspect of organizational operation, the practice of HR functions is similar to the practice of other SME business organizations, at the same time, the management of athletics as human resources means its specific characteristic where the managements of labour supply, career and talent has other interpretation.

Abstract:
The law of defamation provides protection to people's reputations. An examination of the sports-related defamation cases in Australia and New Zealand indicates that such claims have been based on written comments, spoken words and also visual images. These cases can be internal comments made by those involved in a sport, as illustrated by the recent comments made by the coach of the Melbourne Storm, Craig Bellamy. However, as the recently decided case of Coates v Harbour Radio Pty Ltd indicates, most of the cases have involved comments made by people in the media rather than within the sport. An examination of defamation and sport, therefore, requires an examination of the sometimes delicate balance between the media's desire to report and comment on controversial sporting matters, and the desire of those involved in sport wishing to protect their reputations.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to compare the rehydration potential of a carbohydrate–electrolyte beverage with several varieties of milk following exercise-induced fluid losses. Fifteen male participants (age 24.9 ± 5.5 years, height 179.3 ± 4.9 cm, body mass 75.8 ± 6.6 kg (mean ± SD)) lost 2.0% ± 0.2% body mass through intermittent cycling before consuming a different beverage on 4 separate occasions. Drinks included cow’s milk (286 kJ·100 mL−1), soy milk (273 kJ·100 mL−1), a milk-based liquid meal supplement (Sustagen Sport (Nestle); 417 kJ·100 mL−1), and a sports drink (Powerade (Coca Cola Ltd); 129 kJ·100 mL−1). Beverages were consumed over 1 h in volumes equivalent to 150% of body mass loss. Body mass, blood and urine samples, and measures of gastrointestinal tolerance were obtained before and hourly for 4 h after beverage consumption. Net body mass at the conclusion of each trial was significantly less with Powerade (–1.37 ± 0.3 kg) than with cow’s milk (–0.92 ± 0.48 kg), soy milk (–0.78 ± 0.37 kg), and Sustagen Sport (–0.48 ± 0.39 kg). Net body mass was also significantly greater for Sustagen Sport compared with cow’s milk trials, but not soy milk. Upon completion of trials, the percentage of beverage retained was Sustagen Sport 65.1% ± 14.7%, soy milk 46.9% ± 19.9%, cow’s milk 40.0% ± 24.9%, and Powerade 16.6% ± 16.5%. Changes in plasma volume and electrolytes were unaffected by drink treatment. Subjective ratings of bloating and fullness were higher during all milk trials compared with Powerade whereas ratings of overall thirst were not different between beverages. Milk-based drinks are more effective rehydration options compared with traditional sports drinks. The additional energy, protein, and sodium in a milk-based liquid meal supplement facilitate superior fluid recovery following exercise.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to perceive the perspective of Portuguese and Czech’ talented athletes regarding: the main reasons pointed to drop out of sport, putting into analysis motivational factors; the conciliation of School and Sport, and how the organization of schools and sports contexts are articulated in relation to the training and promotion of students, athletes and citizens; and the contributions (positive/negative) of sports to daily life and society. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a qualitative approach to interview eight talented athletes from different sports that had to drop out the practice of sport and explores their narratives regarding experiences and the relational dynamics between sports contexts and schools. Findings Athletes identify factors that led to drop out: the coach profile or the methodology and dynamics of practicing/training; time consuming; and the impossibility of reconciling sports with school/job. Athletes can identify the sport’s culture, self-development and health being as positive contributions of sports, whereas injuries were referred as the main negative factor of sport. As proposal of changes, athletes referred to the need of a more professional organization of the sport contexts and to more proximity between school policies and sport policies allowing conciliating both. Research limitations/implications One limitation that could be pointed to this research is the difference between the Czech and Portuguese socio-cultural and political situation, not only in the concept and organization of sports activities (since scholar years) but also in the general society. This difference could have more visibility when interpreting the data that led to this fact referred above. Practical implications It is recommended a more proximity relationship between researchers and the contexts of practice (sport contexts) being that it is important that these contexts should have feedback from the investigations carried out. Only in this way coaches, federations and confederations can be aware of the motivational factors that lead to talented athletes drop out, and make a greater investment in initial formation of the coaches and propose policies that try to establish partnerships with schools or professional contexts which could help the management of athletes’ times outside of sport. Originality/value Departing from the athletes’ feelings, concerns and motivations related to sport and the reasons that led to their drop out, we argue for the definition of public policies, in both countries, that promote non-discrimination of young people who wish to maintain a path linked to sports in articulation with other areas of their lives.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to report on empirical research that investigated the records management practices of two motor sport community-based organisations in Australia. Design/methodology/approach This multi-method case study was conducted on the regulator of motor sport, the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport Ltd (CAMS) and one affiliated historic car club, the Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC), in Western Australia. Data were gathered using an online audit tool and by interviewing selected stakeholders in these organisations about their organisation’s records management practices. Findings The findings confirm that these organisations experience significant information management challenges, including difficulty in capturing, organising, managing, searching, accessing and preserving their records and archives. Hence, highlighting their inability to manage records advocated in the best practice Standard ISO 15489. It reveals the assumption of records management roles by unskilled members of the group. It emphasises that community-based organisations require assistance in managing their information management assets. Research limitations/implications This research focused on the historic car clubs; hence, it did not include other Australian car clubs in motor sport. Although four historical car clubs, one in each Australian state, were invited to participate, only the VSCC participated. This reduced the sample size to only one CAMS-affiliated historical car club in the study. Hence, further research is required to investigate the records management practices of other CAMS affiliated car clubs in all race disciplines and to confirm whether they experienced similar information management challenges. Comments from key informants in this project indicated that this is likely the case. Practical implications The research highlights risks to the motor sport community’s records and archives. It signals that without leadership by the sport’s governing body, current records and community archives of CAMS and its affiliated car clubs are in danger of being inaccessible, hence lost. Social implications The research highlights the risks in preserving the continuing memory of records and archives in leisure-based community organisations and showcases the threats in preserving its cultural identity and history. Originality/value It is the first study examining records management practices in the serious leisure sector using the motor sport community.

Abstract:
Food-based diet indices provide a practical, rapid, and inexpensive way of evaluating dietary intake. Rather than nutrients, diet indices assess the intake of whole foods and dietary patterns, and compare these with nutrition guidelines. An athlete-specific diet index would offer an efficient and practical way to assess the quality of athletes’ diets, guide nutrition interventions, and focus sport nutrition support. This study describes the development and validation of an Athlete Diet Index (ADI). Item development was informed by a review of existing diet indices, relevant literature, and in-depth focus groups with 20 sports nutritionists (median of 11 years’ professional experience) from four elite athlete sporting institutes. Focus group data were analyzed (NVivo 11 Pro; QSR International Pty. Ltd., 2017, Melbourne, Australia), and key themes were identified to guide the development of athlete-relevant items. A modified Delphi survey in a subgroup of sports nutritionists (n = 9) supported item content validation. Pilot testing with athletes (n = 15) subsequently informed face validity. The final ADI (n = 68 items) was categorized into three sections. Section A (n = 45 items) evaluated usual intake, special diets or intolerances, dietary habits, and culinary skills. Section B (n = 15 items) assessed training load, nutrition supporting training, and sports supplement use. Section C (n = 8 items) captured the demographic details, sporting type, and caliber. All of the athletes reported the ADI as easy (40%) or very easy (60% of participants) to use and rated the tool as relevant (37%) or very relevant (63% of participants) to athletes. Further evaluation of the ADI, including the development of a scoring matrix and validation compared with established dietary methodology, is warranted.

Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur den ekonomiska prestationen skiljer sig mellan de ideella föreningarna och IdrottsAB som styrs av elitlicensens krav inom fotbollen och ishockeyn. Metod: Vi har i denna jämförande studie använt oss av en kvantitativ metod med en longitudinell design där vi med hjälp av sekundärdataanalys undersökt ideella föreningar och IdrottsAB:s ekonomiska prestationer i utvalda nyckeltal under en femårsperiod. Resultat & slutsats: I denna studie har empirin samlats in genom att beräkna de ideella föreningarnas och IdrottsAB medelvärde på de utvalda nyckeltalen och sedan jämfört dessa resultat mot varandra. Hypotestester har även använts för att se om det fanns någon signifikant skillnad mellan vad de ideella föreningarna och IdrottsAB presterat i de olika nyckeltalen. Vår slutsats var att det inte fanns någon större skillnad mellan de ideella föreningarna och IdrottsAB:s finansiella prestationer men att de ideella föreningarna presterade lite bättre sammantaget.

Lietuvos kurčiųjų krepšininkų varžybų rezultatai rodo, kad šios socialinės grupės žmonės gali pasiekti ženklius sportinius laimėjimus. Vadinasi, reikšminga krepšinio treniruotės teorijai ir praktikai bei varžybinei veiklai ištirti ir susisteminti Lietuvos kurčiųjų krepšininkų fizinio išsivystymo, parengtumo, jų varžybinės veiklos ypatumus ir palyginti juos su sveikųjų komanda. Darbo tikslas – nustatyti bei palyginti Lietuvos kurčiųjų vyrų krepšinio komandos ir sveikųjų komandos žaidėjų fizinį išsivystymą ir parengtumą, atlikti šių komandų varžybinės veiklos analizę. Tyrimų uždaviniai: 1. Nustatyti Lietuvos rinktinės kurčiųjų krepšininkų fizinį išsivystymą ir parengtumą, bei palyginti jį su sveikųjų komandos žaidėjų fiziniu išsivystymu ir parengtumu. 2. Atlikti abiejų komandų žaidyminės veiklos analizę. 3. Palyginti komandų fizinį išsivystymą ir parengtumą bei žaidyminės veiklos rodiklius. Thus, it is essential to investigate and systemize Lithuanian deaf basketball players’ physical development, preparedness, peculiarities of their competitive activity and compare with those of the team with healthy players. It is important for the theory and practice of basketball trainings. The objective of the paper is to identify and compare physical development and preparedness of Lithuanian national deaf basketball team with those who are healthy. It also aims at analyzing competitive activities of these teams. LEU pasižymi puikiomis sporto tradicijomis ir per savo gyvavimo laikotarpį yra išugdę ne vieną Lietuvą garsinusį sportininką. Tyrinėjant LEU sporto raidą, masiškumą ir sporto pasiekimus, iškyla mokslinė problema – koks yra sporto mokslo vaidmuo studentų mokymui, užimtumui, saviraiškai ir mokymo programų viešinimui. Tyrimo tikslas – atskleisti, LEU studentų dalyvavimą vidaus varžybose, kaip masinio užimtumo reiškinį, įvertinti jų sportinius pasiekimus Lietuvos ir tarptautiniu lygmeniu bei aptarti jų laimėjimų kaitos tendencijas. Tyrimo uždaviniai: 1. Apibūdinti masinį LEU studentų sportą per 2002 –2013 metus, apibendrinant jų pokyčius bei įvairovę, domėjimąsi renkantis mokymosi dalykus. 2. Atlikti LEU studentų, dalyvavusių įvairaus rango Lietuvos studentų varžybose, rezultatų analizę, bei juos apibendrinti. 3. Kitaip tariant, paslaugos tai vartotojui ir personalui arba renginiams sąveikaujant vykstanti veikla, kuri yra skirta įvairiems vartotojų poreikiams tenkinti. Paslaugos pasižymi šiomis savybėmis: neapčiuopiamumu, heterogeniškumu, nepatvarumu, vartotojo dalyvavimu paslaugos teikimo procese, vienalaikiškumu ir nuosavybės nekeičiamumu. Sportuoti skatinančių veiksnių problema yra aktuali, nes vis dažniau mokslininkai kelia tokius klausimus: kokia motyvacijos sportinei veiklai struktūra, kaip skatinti vaikų ir paauglių motyvaciją, koks jų poreikis sportuoti. Ugdymo turinys taip pat yra svarbus veiksnys, lemiantis mokinių motyvaciją. Ryšys tarp sportinio ugdymo turinio įvairovės ir vaikų motyvacijos sportuoti dažniau nagrinėjamas formaliojo švietimo požiūriu, o neformaliojo - dažniau nusakomas teoriškai, nei grindžiamas konkrečiais empiriniais tyrimais. Mokytojams ir treneriams taip pat yra labai svarbu įvertinti paauglių demografinius veiksmus, nes jie labai svarbūs, nepriklausomai nuo to, kur paauglys sportuoja. Rezultatai ir išvados: 1. Darbo metu buvo atskleisti teoriniai sporto statinių efektyvaus valdymo aspektai. Išanalizavus mokslinę literatūrą paaiškėjo, kad sporto statinių valdymas – tai sudėtingas procesas. Sporto statinių valdymas apima tokias valdymo sritis, kaip: žmogiškųjų išteklių valdymas, infrastruktūros valdymas ir įrenginių panaudojimas, teikiamų paslaugų paketo formavimas, ir siūlymas rinkai. Sporto statinių vadovai taip pat turi mokėti spręsti finansines problemas. 2. Sporto objektų efektyvaus valdymo kriterijai išskiriami vadovaujantis ekonominio racionalumo ir organizacijos sistemos teorijomis. Pagal šias teorijas efektyvumas vertinamas tokiais kriterijais: sporto statinio rezultatų atitikimas keliamiems tikslams; efektyvus išteklių panaudojimas (veiklos vykdymas mažiausiomis finansinėmis sąnaudomis, sporto statinio užimtumas ir kt.); efektyvus išteklių valdymas (įrenginių priežiūra, statinio palaikymo politika ir kt.). 3. AbstractThis chapter studies the polarisation of 1970s’ British farm animal welfare politics and Ruth Harrison’s career as a full-time public campaigner on the RSPCA Council and as head of her own welfare Trust. Polarised conflicts triggered a professionalisation of RSPCA campaigning. The Society adopted new public pressure tactics, established expert committees, and started commissioning behavioural research. Internal tensions over elite “field sports” also led to the formation of the RSPCA Reform Group. Reform Group members oversaw a streamlining of RSPCA management and leadership. They also popularised animal rights thinking. Ruth Harrison supported opposition to “field sports” and helped trigger the internal crisis that led to the Reform Group’s formation. However, tensions over her role on FAWAC and her focus on gradualist reforms isolated Harrison. Forced to declare bankruptcy after a libel suit against another Council member, Harrison focused on developing her own Farm Animal Care Trust (FACT).

Purpose: Physical activity levels (PA-levels) significantly decline during adolescence, and sport participation during childhood and adolescence is frequently emphasized as protec-tive factors of PA-decline. However, there is a lack of studies which specifically examined sport-related factors and its influence on changes in PA (PA-changes) in adolescence. This study aimed to prospectively observe sport factors as: (i) correlates of PA-levels and (ii) pre-dictors of PA-changes in the period between 16 and 18 years of age among urban adoles-cents from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Methods: The sample of participants comprised 324 adolescents (44% females) who were prospectively observed over two testing waves: (i) baseline, when participants were 16 years old; and (ii) follow-up, 20 months later (18 years of age). The variables were collected by previously validated questionnaires including questions on predictors (sociodemographic variables and various sport factors [current/former/ever participation in individual and team sports, experience in sports, competitive result achieved]), and criteria (PA level obtained at study baseline and follow up, measured by Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents [PAQ-A], and difference between PA-levels at baseline and follow-up). The t-test was used to compare PA-levels. The associations between variables were evidenced by: (i) Spear-man’s rank order correlations (between predictors and PA-levels), and (ii) logistic regression analysis (between predictors, and PA-changes observed as binomial criterion [PA-incline vs. PA-decline] – excluding those participants who reported active sport participation at study baseline). Results: The PA-level significantly declined over the study course (t-test: 6.60, p &lt; 0.01). Sport-related predictors were significantly associated with PA at baseline (Spearman’s R: 0.33–0.45, p &lt; 0.01), and PAat follow-up (Spearman’s R: 0.32-0.45, p &lt; 0.01). Meanwhile, there was no significant correlation between studied predictors and differences in PA-levels between baseline and follow-up. Also, logistic regression did not reveal any significant influ-ence of predictors obtained at study baseline and PA-changes observed as binomial criterion (PA-incline vs PA-decline). Conclusion: While studied sport-related predictors significantly influence the PA-levels in the age of 16 and 18, with the higher level of PA among those adolescents who are actively in-volved in sports, sport-participation do not predict changes in PA-levels over the observed period of life. Knowing the influence of PAon overall health status, future studies should pro-vide additional details on possible predictors of PA-changes in adolescence.

Abstract:
The wide variety of the components of signs stems from verbal communication to visual gestures, ciphers, images, music, and Morse code. Barthes’ Semiotic Theory restructured the theory of analyzing signs and allowed for a new understanding and interpretation of signs through seeing diverse cultures and societies. Saussure’s definition of the sign as a combination of signifier and signified led Barthes to further elucidate sign as connotative (cultural) and denotative (literal) processes. Semiotics can be applied to all aspects of life, as meaning is produced not in isolation but in totality, establishing multiple connotations and denotations. In the article “The World of Wrestling” published in Mythologies (1957), Barthes focused on images portrayed by the wrestler resulting in understanding of the wrestler’s image and the image of spectator. In Morse code, gestures can make any sport a spectacle of suffering, defeat and justice, representation of morality, symbols, anger, smile, passion etc., from which derive denotative and connotative meanings. Similarly, Thomas Sebeok identifies sign as one of six factors in communication, and which makes up the rich domain of semiotic research. These are message, source, destination, channel, code, and context. The present paper will focus on a dialogic relation between semiotics and sports, thus making it a text that reproduces meaning and represents certain groups. It focuses on various aspects of semiotics and their relation to sports. The paper also contemplates the versions and meanings of signs in sports that establish sport as an act of representation.

The Clinic not only provides undergraduate law students with an exceptional research experience, as well as an extraordinary learning experience in terms of skills development and application of law to facts, but it also provides a free legal information service to the wider community both within and outside of UCC. Considerable influence and compulsory dropout among those, who go in for GrecoRoman wrestling at the age of 10-13, does not take into account the level of individual biological development and integral demands domination claimed on too high general physical training (GPT) (4) normatives fulfillment. It corresponds with general situation in the system of education (6, 9). In spite of uneven speed of biological development (1, 8, 9), there are general demands claimed on physical training at school for age groups (5) in accordance with chronologic age. The same situation is at sports schools. Technical and physical training lessons at Greco-Roman wrestling school at the stage of initial training are organized according to general group principle. Research methods. Information sources analysis and summarizing, questionnaire survey, coaches’ experience summarizing, methods of mathematical statistics. Results. The received research results led to the following conclusion: it is possible to solve the problem of dropping out of Greco-Roman wrestling sports schools in terms of minimal loss in the quality of sports training by means of dividing the training groups into subgroups. There different normatives of material mastering and set by standard physical qualities development are used. For this purpose we created the training groups and subgroups of the set objectives realization at Greco-Roman wrestling sports schools.
