Abstract:
Background: Athletes in mixed martial arts (MMA) and Muay Thai (MT) face challenges before, during, and after competition, including hydration testing, disordered eating (DE), rapid weight changes (RWC), and health problems (HP). These issues can affect athletes' health and performance and raise regulatory and safety concerns for governing bodies like the Western Australia Combat Sports Commission (WACSC). However, these challenges are poorly described in the context of MMA and MT, as most of the existing research focuses on Olympic combat sports. This thesis addresses these challenges in MMA

Sports injuries are a significant public health burden both in Australia, and worldwide. Preventing injuries in sports settings is thus an important public health goal. It is now generally accepted that sports injuries are, like other unintentional injuries, largely preventable. Yet intractable problems remain. Head injuries caused by impacts are among the most critical and dangerous types of accidents that can occur while practising sports. Alpine skiing is one of the activities with the highest incidence of head injuries. Over the years, specific regulations have been introduced to protect athletes where possible, but the perception is that the level of protection needed to manage the forces to which they are exposed has yet to be achieved. This thesis project aims to examine video sequences of accidents in alpine ski competitions (Giant Slalom, Super-G, Downhill, Ski Cross) to better understand th

Abstract:
The aim of this dissertation was to develop, demonstrate and evaluate a tendon adaptation model (TAM), which predicts the relative tendon damage incurred by wrist muscles during repetitive wrist motion. This research was divided into three major goals. The first goal was to adapt the muscle model of Loren and Lieber (1995) with an optimization routine in order to predict muscle forces during dynamic motions. The muscle model was combined with the cumulative strain model of Goldstein (1981) and the tendon healing and damage models of Wren, Beaupre and Carter (1998) and Liao and Belkoff (1993) r
