Abstract:
The article examines the methodology of the socio-philosophical analysis of sports activity as a sphere of social life from the point of view of the realization of its general culture-creating role by sports. It was established that sport as an essential component of socio-cultural reality and a remarkable form of social manifestation of physical culture, based on the competitive activity of the athlete’s personality, which is aimed both at knowledge and at the improvement of the physical and spiritual basis of the individual in all its multifacetedness and diversity, is important, valuable a deterministic form of activity, which is characterized by the actualization of such features as purposefulness and goal rationality. A significant difference between sport and sports activity has been proven, since sport generates and reproduces competition as such, and sports activity produces and forms a person. It was established that the commercialization of sport inevitably takes it beyond the limits of physical culture.

Abstract:
There is a dynamic increase in the number of international sports competitions aimed at deaf athletes. More than 50 World and European championships are held every year in various sports disciplines. The participation and number of deaf athletes delegated to these sports competitions depend on the budget available to national sports federations (NSFs) of deaf athletes. Many times, NSFs have been forced to withdraw from participation in a competition owing to a lack of financial resources. In numerous countries, NSFs have to conduct online fundraising dedicated to their representatives’ involvement in sports competitions. The authors reviewed the source materials on the internet on financing the sport of the hearing impaired. No scientific articles covering the funding aspect of national sports federations in the world were found. The authors relied on financial documents provided by the NSF (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Spain) and on websites indicated by these federations. The aim of the article was to characterize selected national organizations gathering deaf athletes from Europe, Asia and Oceania, and North America in terms of the budget they had at their disposal in years 2013–2017, the number of athletes associated in the NSF, and the number of Olympic competitors and the country’s medal position during the 2013 and 2017 Deaflympics. An overview of NSF websites with reference to “annual reports”, “financial reports”, “financial statements”, “newsletter”, “national teams of”, “number of athletes of”, demonstrated numerous deficiencies in the transparent presentation of the financial situation of NSFs. The content of NSF activity reports also provides limited information on the number of athletes and clubs associated in these federations. The article constitutes an introduction to a discussion on the financing aspects and development of deaf people’s sport worldwide.

Abstract:
Sport is a very important component of our life. Many people play sports as a hobby, on an amateur level. However, for some people, sport is a part of their life, and they are engaged in sports activities at a professional level. The work shows the positive and negative sides of sports as a profession. In particular, after leaving the “high-performance sport”, outstanding and famous athletes become coaches, businessmen, political, public figures, etc. However, a completely different plot of life awaits people who receive injuries that are incompatible with further engaging in professional sports at the height of their career. If they do not achieve permanent excellent results, and do not reach the “Olympus of glory”, they become useless to anyone. To alleviate these consequences of athletes who are forced to end their professional careers due to injury, European countries have certain social support programs that help athletes cope with crises. At the same time, evaluating our legislation, we can note that at the moment in the Russian Federation there is no well-established system of social support programs for professional athletes who are forced to leave the “high-performance sport”.

Abstract:
SummaryIn this paper we evaluated the basic viewpoints on the mutual relations between contemporary sport and society. Sport is a global social phenomenon which is determined by a variety of different processes, including: the fast development of the industrial society and capital, an increase in leisure time, the development of a liberal democracy and the media. A special feature in these relations is the overall globalization process in today’s world. The basic structure of this paper is made up of two functional parts. In the first part we indicate the dominant theoretical-methodological paradigms in studying sport in social sciences, especially sociology: functionalism, conflict theory in society, interpretive and postmodern theory. In the second part of the paper we analyze the dialectics of contemporary relations between sport and society, where special attention is dedicated to the distribution of social power between sport, capital and the media at the local and global level. At the local level especially, there is a pronounced influence of politics on sport, which is realized through various mechanisms of government power, as well as other political subjects. The most solid bonds between sport and society on both levels are maintained by capital and the media, which know no boundaries. Through ownership and mechanisms of financing sports clubs and associations, athletes and athletic events, an entire network of capitalist relations in sport was created. Sport has become one of the most important factors of television programs, the internet and social networks, which has led to an enormous growth in profit and popularity of sport, but also to great changes in the social relations between people.

Abstract:
Sports have the unique ability to unite fervor and vigor for a common goal. For his universal value, sport has the enormous potential to create a more positive and sustainable future for all. Sport is inseparable from society, and it’s also inseparable from the national feeling and national identity. Politics and sports are so closely related that it is difficult to imagine that they could be kept separated, with politics remaining unrelated to sports. There are various perspectives from which this association might be evaluated. Every national sports organization bases its operations on regional aspects and recognizes and uses regional social structures and cultural identities. In turn, the national association members refer to certain types of regional identity. The identity creation and expression process contributed to contemporary sports’ historical development and global dissemination. Sports can have different aspects on social life, and in this paper, we fundamentally focus on positive and negative aspects. Keywords: sport, national identity, positive aspects, negative aspects

Abstract:
The paper discusses the interpretation of the categories “sports”, “high-performance sports” and “professional sports” and defines peculiarities of each of the concepts in the framework of the study. Thus, “sports” is identified as mass sports, leading to a healthy lifestyle. These are systematic physical exercises to maintain the vital functions of the human body. The category “high-performance sports” is identified with the concept of “professional sports” and formalized as an educational and training process to prepare a person for participation in All-Ukrainian and international sports competitions. It is a person’s professional activity, accompanied by material rewards, coordination of the training process by national coaches, and functionaries of Ukrainian federations. It aims to achieve high results in a particular sport at the world level. The study’s central hypothesis is as follows: “significant achievements of domestic professional athletes at international competitions lead to the active participation of Ukrainian youth in sports.” A system for assessing the impact of the results of high-performance sports on the attitude of young people toward sports and a healthy lifestyle has been formed to confirm the hypothesis quantitatively. The first block of indicators includes indicators that quantitatively characterize the achievements of professional athletes in significant international competitions, such as the Olympic Games, World and European Championships, international Grand Prix, etc. The second block of indicators characterizes the potential opportunities of high-performance sports in Ukraine. These indicators describe the number of professional athletes who can achieve high results in international competitions. The third block of indicators covers indicators that characterize public awareness of the results of international competitions and the achievements of domestic professional athletes. Within this block, we define two separate groups of indicators. The first group of indicators describes the information coverage of the results, and the second group of indicators characterizes the ability of Ukraine to host international sports tournaments. The fourth block of indicators considers indicators characterizing medical support for professional athletes. The fifth block of indicators is a buffer and characterizes the activities of the state in the framework of the popularization of mass sports in Ukraine. The sixth block of indicators describes the reaction of young people to the achievements in high-performance sports. The seventh group of indicators is auxiliary in assessing the level of development of mass sports in Ukraine and characterizes the level of professional growth of Ukrainian coaches. The eighth block of indicators characterizes the activation of interest of the youth in a particular sport as a reaction to the high results of Ukrainian professional athletes in significant international competitions. It has been established that the modern reform of the healthcare system and its connection with physical culture and sports is observed within the framework of two decisions of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine in 2021: On the Human Development Strategy, which defines the main priorities in the development of the country’s most important resource – people; On the State of the National Health System and Urgent Measures to Provide Citizens of Ukraine with Medical Assistance, which defines the main priorities of reforming the healthcare system.

Abstract:
IntroductionCommitment to sports is especially important for well-being in people with disabilities (Malm et al., 2019), although mental health problems are common among Paralympic athletes (Hunt et al., 2019). Importance of representations of and regulation in sport situations was supported for different kind of sports (Moran, 1993, Suinn R., 1982, Hardy et al., 1996) but Paralympic ones.ObjectivesThe aim was to reveal aspects of psychological regulation important for achievement and longer commitment to Paralympic sports comparing to non-Paralympic sports.Methods51 athletes from Paralympic sports (49.1% candidates and masters of sports) filled Questionnaire of Image Representations of Professional Activity of Athletes (Leonov et al., 2020) measuring general importance and self-appraisals of different aspects of image representation and regulation in sport activities: control of temporal, spatial, informational, technical and tactical, energetic aspects, game intelligence, motivational, emotional and social aspects (Cronbach’s alphas .61-.89). Data were compared to 399 athletes without disabilities (48.4% candidates and masters of sports).ResultsComparing to athletes without disabilities, Paralympic athletes higher appraise general importance and their capacities for emotion regulation during sport situation (t=2.26-3.35, p<.01). High-level Paralympic atheletes report marginally better emotion regulation (t=1.74, p<.10). Longer experience in sport in Paralympic athletes is associated with better representations of spatial and social aspects of sport situations and better emotion regulation (r=.25-.29, p<.05).ConclusionsData suggest that improvement of emotion regulation in sport situation in Paralympic athletes could be helpful for longer participation and better achievement. Modern sports/media complex may be the result of complex inactions of communication technologies, social developments, and the increased sophistication of businesses in understanding the intrinsic and extrinsic aspects of consumer behavior. From the promotion options of print media, television and radio, to the self-engaging aspects of Internet sport coverage and gaming, the spectator is rapidly becoming an integral part of the branding process. Media, especially fantasy sports, has transcended the traditional roles of television's function as agents of exposure to engagement and personal involvement in athletic contest and its merchandising. Although the media aspect may been neglected in sports research, media research traditionally has considered sports too popular for traditional research. This paper explores some of the major topics for research that combines sports and newer forms of media exploitation for marketing purposes.

Abstract:
Ethics issues are an issue today wherever there is competition for profit. Contemporary registered sport is a social activity and is, therefore, one of the spheres in which the above-mentioned phenomenon is present. Sports ethics as a term in everyday life is understood as the unwritten rules of behavior of people in sports, and in this sense, it starts from the assumption of fair relations in all spheres of sports. Honesty is one of the basic human values, a characteristic that reflects righteousness, principality, loyalty to commitments, honesty. The opposite of this is lies, deceit, hypocrisy. Maintaining ethical rules (norms) enhances the moral influence of sport and the responsibility of all participants in the sport for their behavior and, thanks to the immense attractiveness of sport for the youth, it contributes to improving the moral climate among the youth. Practical research and theoretical work on the conditionality and connection between ethics and sport exist, but they are scarce to some degree. The paper deals with the phenomenon of sport and its connection with ethics, considering theoretical, research and professional papers, and outlining the essence of individual papers that are important for the study of this issue. They deal with the connection between ethics and sport in a certain way.

Abstract:
The Ethical Duality in Sports: Social and Psychological Aspects of Transgender ParticipationHistorically the notion about the understanding of women has been patriarchal in nature. The postmodern world has an inclination to redefine social mores. The prevailing thought in the 20th and 21st centuries supports the same thesis. The transformation of attitudes appears to be a regular phenomenon in the understanding of the issue at hand, thereby enlivening the motif of unity between the two. Gender, transgender, sexuality, etc., are in a state of transformation, so that to interpret and reinterpret a state of understanding and re-understanding of the issue of participation in sports has multiple significations. Sport in the 21st century constructs inimitable challenges for trans-athletes. A broad spectrum of identities is included under the umbrella of transgender identity. Transsexual or transitioned athletes may pose the greatest challenge to equity in sex-segregated sport competition. The subject under deliberation has a large number of interpretations, all of which center on a need to ‘deconstruct’ the present structuration of acceptance of sex and gender terminology. There is certainly a need to think and contemplate in broader terms about the meanings that assess the well-defined boundaries between disciplines of research. The present thesis highlights a deconstructive stance.

Abstract:
The article considers the theoretical aspects of the phenomenon of physical culture and sport as a social space in the framework of the main provisions of Pierre Bourdieu sociological theory. A retrospective review of scientific sources on the impact of physical culture and sports on various aspects of human life is made. Empirical studies allowing to apply the classical concepts of “social space”, “field”, “types of capital”, and “practice of agents” to physical culture and sports activities are noted. Objective and subjective characteristics of social fields in the structure of the social space of physical culture and sports are given. The types of agents’ practices in the fields of mass physical culture, physical culture in the education system, physical education, physical rehabilitation, and sports activity have been determined. The interrelation of the characteristics of fields and the activity of practical actions of agents is indicated, depending on their attitude to physical culture and sports. The possibility of using the social space of physical culture and sports for the correction of social well-being of various socio-demographic strata of society due to the genesis and accumulation of social and cultural capital at all levels of an individual’s functioning is assumed.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the gender problems of discrimination in the field of sports activities, since the issue of proper legal regulation, the creation of a full-fledged system of sports law with a comprehensive system of legal principles and guarantees is a relevant factor in the improvement of national law. It was established that despite the active struggle of activists for gender rights in sports, the situation is far from perfect. Professional sports serve as a powerful cultural arena for constructing and perpetuating the ideology and practice of male privilege and dominance. This sphere of social life is perhaps one of the most instrumental in creating and maintaining male hegemony, contributing to historical patterns of male empowerment and female disadvantage. Women's sports are often trivialized and marginalized, and female athletes themselves are often perceived as feminized women rather than competitive athletes. Ensuring gender equality is an urgent problem of our time in all spheres of social life. Sport as a professional activity remains one of the fields where the greatest amount of gender inequality is manifested, despite the fact that there has been a struggle in this area for almost a century, and in the last two decades, the fight against gender discrimination has especially intensified. The problems that still remain in the field of professional sports in the context of equality and justice between the sexes are grouped: the uneven presence of women in the leadership of sports organizations, manifestations of sexism, the lack of balanced sports gender linguistics, uneven coverage of sports competitions based on the gender of the participants. The last is that the representation of sports and athletes in the media can contribute to the formation of harmful gender stereotypes. The media, as a rule, presents female athletes as women first, and sportswomen second.

Th e research of socializing power of sports has traditionally diff ered between socializing into sports, socializing during sports, or through sport and fi nally socializing directly in sports. However nowadays, the width of sport disciplines that involves wide range of physical activities at various intensity levels makes it almost impossible to make any generalizations based on results coming from more sport fi elds (individual, collective) and foremost performance levels (recreational, performance level, top athlete level). Abstract:
This paper seeks to review the literature and address ethical implications of organized contact sports, such as American football and boxing, with significant child or adolescent participation. Child and adolescent sport participation act not only as a leisure activity, but also improves physical health and enhances psychological and social health outcomes. However, playing sports may also have negative physiological effects, such as sports-related concussions (SRCs) - a form of traumatic brain injury (TBI) - which are an emerging public health concern. This paper review and explores ethical implications of contact sports in the scientific literature and demonstrates challenged faced on philosophical deliberation on the ethical implications of SRCs and RHIs due to complexities of these conditions and their identification and treatment involving a wide variety of practical situations, which formal sports rules may not adequately address. Since scholarly literature has yet to arrive at a consensus concerning causal link(s) between contact sports participation and significant concussion-related brain damage, the paper argues in favor of strengthening concussion preventive measures, identification protocols and management procedures in contact sports. This article rejects ethical paternalism on the basis of inconclusive empirical evidence concerning associations between contact sports participation and heightened SRC risk. It also rejects Mill’s argumentation against consensualism and suggests prevention is a better solution over inadequately founded philosophical ethical proposals favoring drastically reforming contact sports.

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the social importance of sport in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. As an instrument for social cohesion and integration, sport has become a very important part of municipal activity. We use two surveys: the Baròmetre, which gathers opinion about municipal services; and satisfaction surveys completed by the users of sports facilities. The sports offer (6.5) receives a better rating than overall municipal management (5.9), and counts for 20.4% of the global assessment of the municipal management. Satisfaction with facilities is 7.3 out of 10, while price receives the lowest mark. Detailed analysis of satisfaction surveys conducted among the population can help the municipal management of sports facilities. Policies that focus only on prices are unlikely to be as effective at improving members’ perception of sports facilities as those that also take other aspects into account.

Abstract:
With the development of social media, it has become more and more a distinctive phenomenon for sports athletes to present themselves and spread sports culture through operating personal social media accounts. As the national sport of China, table tennis has long enjoyed widespread attention, and the athletes are also the focus of the public. In this regard, this paper selected eight Chinese table tennis athletes in different growth periods in a balanced manner according to the demographic approach. With the content and text analysis methods, the paper collects data and text from their social media accounts represented by Weibo, and analyzes the content and effects from aspects of sports communication, health communication, brand communication, social value communication and entertainment daily communication. After analyzing the current operation and exposed shortcomings of the personal social media of sports athletes represented by them, the paper puts forward three feasible suggestions: “build a good media image, convey positive energy actively,” “raise the awareness of media management, explore the possibilities of cross-border” and “enhance the ability of media operation, create differentiated personalities,” to contribute media power to the in-depth implementation of the "Healthy China" Initiative and the development of China's sports industry.

Abstract:
Nowadays, sports and sports competitions are indisputably superior forms of popular entertainment and also sort of activities that are a part of everyday life for almost all of us, whether we are observers or direct participants in some of them. For the same reason, they are also some of the most profitable industries that bring huge profits and popularity to many of its actors. For all those reasons, the social context of the present role of the sport is certainly an important topic for analysis, as well as the history of changes that have resulted in the position and influence that sports hold in the modern society, and vice versa. Therefore, this text has an ambition to highlight the broader horizon of events that have led to a place that sports occupy today. On the other hand, it also sheds some light on the complicity and interactivity that existed from the beginning, along the line, between sport and the society, a culmination of which is visible in current spectacular outlines of sporting events. In this way, it points to one of the primary aspects of all sports events, but also to those secondary visible elements that today are often in the primary focus of all participants, due to the money and the attention that are following sports and sport athletes.

The diversity of sport participants in the Netherlands is beginning to reflect the diversity within the general population. Sport as a whole is becoming more accessible, and participation in sport of different social groups takes place within both mainstream and “separate” sports clubs and in differently organized sports groups. In our paper we critically analyze the broader social integrative functions ascribed to sport by policy makers. We attempt to show that the ongoing democratization of sport participation is not always positively correlated, let alone causally related, to a broader social integrated society. We argue that social integration in itself is a multidimensional process and distinguish three dimensions of integration (structural, social-cultural, and social-affective), which can all occur in and through the practice of sport. Furthermore we argue that the integrative meanings of sport depend on which social groups and which of the dimensions of integration are examined. The complementary and contradictory aspects of the dimensions of social integration with regard to four different social minority groups (ethnic minorities, the elderly, the physically challenged, gays and lesbians) are examined.

Rugby, a fast-paced, aggressive contact sport, has a high incidence of injury. This study examines why US women play rugby given the social stigma surrounding women’s participation in sports in general, particularly contact sports, and despite the high risk of injury. In a survey of their injury history and potential injury risk factors, 339 female rugby players from 14 teams of varied quality and levels of play from a wide geographic area in the United States were asked why they played the sport. Their responses indicate that women play rugby because they enjoy the game, they like the aggressive aspects of the sport, they appreciate the social aspects of the game, and they believe the sport provides them with positive benefits, such as increased fitness, confidence, and strength. The results of this study indicate that many women are willing to risk injury for the positive rewards that they associate with rugby.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper provides a discussion on various aspects and features of the concept of the social sciences of sport. The concept originated recently and was formulated in 2007 during the preparations for the establishment of the International Society for the Social Sciences of Sport. The Society, however, was not formed until the beginning of 2009. Among other things, the concept includes such academic disciplines and fields as sport sociology, sport philosophy, sport psychology, sport pedagogy, the history of physical fitness, sport and Olympism, sport politics and the international conditions of sport, sport economics, sport organizations and management, the social and cultural foundations of tourism and recreation, the social relations regarding training and sport tactics, as well as the humanistic theory of martial arts. The author presents a growth in interest of different social aspects and issues of sport at the beginning of the twentieth century. He indicates the significant development of sport during the second half of the last century, especially towards its end and at the beginning of the twenty-first century. The social sciences of sport was also underlined as the reason for the creation of a new, dynamically developing cognitive paradigm. According to the Author, it is mainly connected with the institutional and functional, organizational and methodological conditions of the social science of sport which specifically complemented the educational and research standards for the academic community around the globe. The Author emphasizes the social sciences of sport’s distinctive and autonomous part in sport science due to its specific and detailed merit-related issues and methodological foundations. He also stresses that not only does natural science (particularly biological science) play an important role in sport science, but also that the social science of sport has a vital and fundamental value in it. In his opinion, natural (biological) science in relation to sport refers mainly to one person’s organism, whereas social science refers, for the most part, to the axiological, cultural, symbolical, esthetic, ethical perception of physical exertion. Moreover, research conducted in this field encompasses the professional, pragmatic, utilitarian, cathartic, escapist, ludic, hedonistic, epistemological and recreational aspects of differently perceived professional sports or sport for all. The Author points out that the amount of available courses - lectures, classes, seminars - in the field of social sciences themselves, as well as in the social science of sport, is being gradually reduced, which undoubtedly lowers not only the knowledge, but also the perception, interpretation, explanation and comprehension of sport in the context of the humanistic approach. Furthermore, he indicates this trend’s influential role in the development of common-sense thinking, which makes opinion-forming and valuable comments on the subject of sport undergo cognitive deformations. He points out its negative influence on the listeners, audience and fans’ consciousness, opinion and attitude, as well as on the interpretative context of the observed events - not only ones associated with sport, but also those happening beyond it, for instance in social, family, peer, professional, political and religious life.

Abstract:
AbstractHitherto empirical research provides insight on particular dimensions or aspects thereof, but analyses that include diverse determinants of the physical activity are scarcer. The aim of the research was to examine the profile of adults who engage in sport activity, using a multi-layer, socio-ecological approach. Combined database: The Social Diagnosis 2015, The Statistics Poland 2014, and the Orliki 2012 was applied. The resulting sample consists of 8,361 adult respondents aged 25–70 years. Sport activity and sport clubs’ membership were measured as dependent variables. According to the Bronfenbrenner’s layered model number of outcome variables were described. While being consistent with fundamental facts known from the literature (e.g. significance of age, education, family, social networks and cultural aspects, the results point to a heterogeneity in determining sport activity. Firstly, women and men differ qualitatively – the set of characteristics important for sport activity is different. For example, while minor health issues seem to instigate activity of women, for men they are rather negatively related. Secondly, different factors are relevant for initiating the activity than for sustaining it. Furthermore, sport activity is rather positively related to other activities related to social life or to the life-long learning. This suggests that a substitution effect, in terms of time, is less important than the general tendency to be engaged in different aspects of life. Lastly, active membership of sports clubs is not only rare, but also qualitatively differs from sports activity in terms of socio-ecological profile of the participants. The obtained results emphasize the need to create and implement nuanced and varied policies to support increase in physical activity in modern societies. Traditional, ‘hard’ measures like providing physical (facilities) or organisational (sports clubs) infrastructure seem to have limited effectiveness.

Abstract:
Early sociological research describes risk sports as a form of resistance to structural aspects of highly industrialized societies. Recent scholarship, however, suggests that conventional social forces operating on the demographic group (young, White, professional, middle-class males) from which most athletes originate actually motivate risk sports participation. This study contributes to the literature by seeking to explain risk athletes’ characteristic class status, a dynamic largely neglected by previous studies. Drawing on Bourdieu’s analysis of the relationship between sport and social class, I suggest that risk sports appeal particularly to members of the professional middle class because of such sports’ capacity to simultaneously satisfy and provide a temporary escape from a class habitus demanding continual progress through disciplined labor and deferred gratification.

Abstract:
Coronavirus named Coronavirus 2019-nCoV or (Covid-19) by the World Health Organization (WHO) has spread to all corners of the globe, disrupting many aspects of day-to-day life. The pandemic has led nations to implement stringent social distancing measures to prevent the spread of the virus; these include stay-athome advice, closures to schools and businesses and a pause to everyday social life to reduce close contact among people. Sport is no exception: livelihoods in the sector have been severely disrupted; gym, leisure, sport and recreational facilities have shut down; professional and community sport is suspended; and major events have been cancelled. Studies show that this has many economic and social repercussions, with the sports and tourism sectors effectively shutting down, and the strictest lockdown measures.

Abstract:
There has been a decrease in sports practices among the adolescent population, and several authors have tried to identify variables that can explain this decrease by analyzing psychosocial aspects such as perceived fitness and self-efficacy. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine the association of perceived fitness and self-efficacy with sport practices and to determine whether perceived fitness is a mediator of the association between self-efficacy and sport practice in Spanish adolescents. The sample was composed of 882 students between 13 and 17 years old from Gipuzkoa (Spain). A descriptive, correlational and direct/indirect effect approach was used, using the PROCESS macro for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Among the results obtained, it is highlighted on the one hand, that perceived fitness significantly correlates with both self-efficacy and sport practice, on the other hand, it is confirmed that perceived fitness is a mediator in the relationship between self-efficacy and sports practice. This finding highlights the importance of psychosocial aspects in efforts to increase sports practice.

Abstract:
This article explores public expenditure in Brazilian sport from 2004 to 2015 and aims to understand if hosting sport mega-events has influenced investments in different types of sport (elite sport and educational/participation sport). Data were collected through governmental records and examined through descriptive statistics. Positive and negative variations of spending were reported, regarding both the overall budget allocated to sport and among the different types of sport. This study concluded that sport mega-events have influenced the funding of sports programs to some extent, but other aspects of public funding are likely to be more significant influencers on the observed variations. The study also argues that further research on different host countries is necessary to understand the impact of sport mega-events on public sport funding.
