Lietuvos kurčiųjų krepšininkų varžybų rezultatai rodo, kad šios socialinės grupės žmonės gali pasiekti ženklius sportinius laimėjimus. Vadinasi, reikšminga krepšinio treniruotės teorijai ir praktikai bei varžybinei veiklai ištirti ir susisteminti Lietuvos kurčiųjų krepšininkų fizinio išsivystymo, parengtumo, jų varžybinės veiklos ypatumus ir palyginti juos su sveikųjų komanda.
Darbo tikslas – nustatyti bei palyginti Lietuvos kurčiųjų vyrų krepšinio komandos ir sveikųjų komandos žaidėjų fizinį išsivystymą ir parengtumą, atlikti šių komandų varžybinės veiklos analizę.
Tyrimų uždaviniai:
1. Nustatyti Lietuvos rinktinės kurčiųjų krepšininkų fizinį išsivystymą ir parengtumą, bei palyginti jį su sveikųjų komandos žaidėjų fiziniu išsivystymu ir parengtumu.
2. Atlikti abiejų komandų žaidyminės veiklos analizę.
3. Palyginti komandų fizinį išsivystymą ir parengtumą bei žaidyminės veiklos rodiklius.
Tyrimo subjektas – Lietuvos kurčiųjų vyrų krepšinio rinktinės krepšininkai (n=12) ir Vilniaus "KM-SSK - Perlas" krepšinio klubo krepšininkai (n=12).
Tyrimo objektas – kurčiųjų ir sveikųjų krepšininkų fizinis išsivystymas ir parengtumas, bei žaidyminė veikla.
Lietuvos kurčiųjų rinktinės krepšininkų rengimas yra panašus kai ir sveikųjų krepšininkų.

Thus, it is essential to investigate and systemize Lithuanian deaf basketball players’ physical development, preparedness, peculiarities of their competitive activity and compare with those of the team with healthy players. It is important for the theory and practice of basketball trainings.
The objective of the paper is to identify and compare physical development and preparedness of Lithuanian national deaf basketball team with those who are healthy. It also aims at analyzing competitive activities of these teams.
Tasks of analyses are as follows:
1. to identify the development and preparedness of Lithuanian deaf basketball team with the development and preparedness of Lithuanian healthy basketball team.
2. to prepare the analysis of the competitive activity of both teams.
3. to compare the development, preparedness and game indicators of both teams.
The subject of the research is Lithuanian national death men basketball team (n=12) and players from Vilnius KM-SSK – Perlas basketball team.
The object of the research is physical development, preparedness and competitive activity of deaf and healthy players.
The preparation of Lithuanian national deaf basketball team is similar to that of healthy basketball players.

Darbo tikslas. Ištirti Lietuvos masinio sporto klubų tvaraus finansavimo užtikrinimo prielaidas.
Darbo uždaviniai:
1. Apibrėžti masinio sporto ir masinio sporto klubo vystymo teorines koncepcijas;
2. Išanalizuoti masinio sporto klubų finansavimo ypatybes;
3. Išanalizuoti Lietuvos masinį sportą reglamentuojančius teisės aktus ir veiklos dokumentus;
4. Atlikti Lietuvos masinio sporto klubų tvaraus finansavimo užtikrinimo galimybių ir kliūčių analizę, apklausiant sporto šakų federacijų atstovus bei miestų savivaldybių sporto specialistus;
Svarbiausi rezultatai ir išvados:
1. Masinis sportas – mėgėjų sportas, organizuotas nacionalinių sporto šakų federacijų lygmeniu ir kurio organizavimui labai svarbi savanorių pagalba. Aim of this paper. To explore the presumptions for Lithuanian grassroots sports clubs to ensure sustainable funding.
Tasks of this paper:
1. To define theoretical concepts of development of grassroots sports and grassroots sports club;
2. To analyze funding features of grassroots sports clubs;
3. To analyze legal acts and work documents, which regulates grassroots sports in Lithuania;
4. To analyze possibilities and barriers for Lithuanian grassroots sports clubs to ensure sustainable funding by interviewing representatives from national sports federations and sports experts from municipalities.
Main results and conclusions:
1. Grassroots sports – amateur sports, organized at the level of national sports federations and which strongly depends on voluntary work. Grassroots sport is usually exercised in amateur sports clubs – associations, which members are individuals and which essential goal is to privide all people with oportunities to practise sports on local level.
2. Main funding sources for grassroots sports clubs are: households expenditures, finances from local and national budgets, voluntary work, media rights, finances from lotteries, gambling and betting operators, finances designated through financial solidarity mechanisms and EU funding programmes.

Often arbitration has been closely related to issues that are likely to be arbitrated, including commercial, corporate or investment matters.However, the sporting matter has been less related to arbitration issues.In the present article, a relatively new and very interesting issue is develop: the sport arbitration, which has been gaining space in various sport organizations to become an instrument of great importance in the sports world. In this way, the author, through the experience of the Tribunal Arbitral Du Sport, shows us the way that sports arbitration has followed, its strengths, its composition and the importance it has achieved in these issues until forging an integral and solid relationship between arbitration and sport.<br>Muchas veces el arbitraje ha sido muy relacionado con temas que son susceptibles de ser arbitrados, entre los cuales se encuentran materias comerciales, corporativas o de inversión. Sin embargo, la materia deportiva ha sido menos relacionada con temas arbitrales.En el presente artículo, se desarrolla un tema relativamente nuevo y muy interesante: el arbitraje deportivo, el cual ha ido ganando espacio en diversos organismos deportivos hasta convertirse en un instrumento de gran importancia en el mundo deportivo. COORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DO PESSOAL DE ENSINO SUPERIOR<br>O planejamento e a gestão de atividades esportivas é uma
área promissora e pouco explorada para aplicações de
Pesquisa Operacional. Os problemas nesta área são em geral
de formulação simples e alcançam grande difusão nos meios
de comunicação. Embora sua formulação seja simples, em
geral estes problemas são difíceis de serem resolvidos em
termos computacionais. Os resultados de muitos trabalhos
acadêmicos nesta área têm sido aceitos como soluções para
problemas reais e várias soluções vem sendo implementadas
na prática. Esta tese tem como objetivo principal estudar
dois tipos de problemas que surgem na área de esportes: a
programação de tabelas e os problemas da classificação. A
programação de tabelas para competições esportivas é uma
tarefa difícil, na qual diversas técnicas de otimização
combinatória têm sido aplicadas. Nesta tese, formula-se o
Problema do Torneio com Viagens Espelhado como um problema
de otimização em grafos. O problema é resolvido utilizando-
se algoritmos aproximados. Apresentam-se duas heurísticas
para este problema. A primeira é muito rápida e serve para
fornecer soluções iniciais para a segunda, que é capaz de
obter soluções de boa qualidade em tempos razoáveis. São
deduzidos limites duais para um tipo particular de
instâncias. Estes limites permitem provar a otimalidade
das soluções obtidas heuristicamente para instâncias muito
maiores do que as maiores instâncias resolvidas na
literatura. Por ultimo, é apresentado um modelo de
programação linear inteira para o problema, ao qual são
acrescentadas desigualdades válidas. Os problemas da
classificação visam obter condições, necessárias e
suficientes, para a classificação de uma determinada
equipe para as finais de um campeonato em relação ao
número de pontos a ser obtido. São apresentados modelos de
programação linear inteira que permitem resolver estes
problemas no contexto do Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol.<br>Sports management is a very attractive and not very
explored area for applications of Operations Research.
Problems in this area use to have simple formulations and
reach a big coveragge by the media. Although their
formulations are simple, in general these problems are
difficult to be solved in computational terms. The results
of many academic works in this area have been accepted as
solutions for real problems and some solutions are being
implemented.
This thesis has the main objective of studying two types
of problems that appear in the sports area: the fixture
creation and the qualification problems.
Fixture creation (also known as sport scheduling) for
sport competitions is a difficult task, in which several
combinatorial optimization techniques has been applied. In
this thesis, the Mirrored Traveling Tournament Problem is
formulated as a graph optmization problem. The problem is
solved using approximation algorithms. Two heuristics are
introduced for this problem. The first one is very fast
and is used to supply initial solutions for the second one
which is able to obtain high quality solutions in
reasonable computation times. Dual limits are deduced for
a particular type of instances. These limits allow to
prove the optimality of the heuristically abtained
solutions for instances that are much bigger than those
soved in the literature. Finally, an integer programming
model is introduced in wich valid inequalities are added.
The qualification problems aim to obtain necessary and
sufficient conditions for the playoffs qualification of a
given team in terms of the number of points to be
obtained. Integer programming models are introduced which
allow solving these problems in the context of the
Brazilian Football Championship.

La pratique sportive est aujourd’hui soumise à une grande diversité de règles d'origines différentes qui dessinent des ordres juridiques distincts, privés et publics : des ordres juridiques d'État et des ordres juridiques du sport dont les relations prennent fréquemment les traits d'un « pluralisme juridique positif organisé ». En effet, la lex sportiva ou le droit de sport peut être définie comme étant l'ensemble des règles qui régissent les droits et les obligations des sportifs. Il porte notamment sur les règlements sportifs des différentes fédérations sportives, le dopage, les règles de transfert de joueurs. De même ce droit tend à résoudre les différents litiges qui peuvent en en découler. Le litige peut être définie comme étant un différend ou désaccord entre deux parties, physiques ou morales, dont les unes contestent aux autres d’être « titulaires d’un droit à l’exercice duquel elles prétendent ». Le désaccord entre les parties du litige, peut naitre d’un contrat ou d’une situation de fait. Ces parties vont d’abord essayer de résoudre leur différend à l’amiable, à défaut d’accord, le litige sera soumis à un Tribunal qui va le trancher. On rencontre les litiges dans tous les domaines, civil, commercial, administratif, sportif… Ce dernier secteur, à savoir le secteur du Sport ou plus précisément les conflits en matière de sport, qui sont de diverses natures et dont le règlement exige le recours à des instances spécialisées en la matière et l’application des textes propres à ce type de litiges, constitue le principal objet de recherche de ce travail. Les différends en matière de Sport, peuvent se résoudre devant les tribunaux de droit commun. Mais, l'inadaptation de ces derniers à des litiges nécessitant des compétences « techniques particulières qui doivent compte tenu de la brièveté d'une carrière, être réglés rapidement, a entraîné le recours – de plus en plus fréquent – aux modes alternatifs de règlement des conflits ». Contrairement aux autres litiges, qui ont une situation contrastée, la situation des litiges sportifs est claire, transparente, et originale. Pour cela, et pour répondre à leurs besoins spécifiques, les organismes sportifs, ont créé et développé des règles législatives propres qui assurent leur fonctionnement, et ont constitué des instances qui assurent la bonne application des règles qu’elles ont édictées. Les conflits Sportifs sont donc réglés par des règlements et des statuts particuliers et spécialisés en matière du sport, qui permettent aux parties à un litige d’aboutir à des solutions pratiques et satisfaisantes. On peut dire que la régularisation de l’activité sportive peut se faire de manière autonome et échapper aux pouvoirs publics, à l’ordre étatique. Les Règlements Sportifs sont donc, des Règlements autonomes et suprêmes vis-à-vis des législations de l’Etat. En effet, la création de ces règlements spécifiques, a entrainé la création des instances juridictionnelles spécialisées compétentes à régler les conflits des organismes sportifs, et qui fonctionnent conformément à leur pouvoir réglementaire. En examinant les règlements d’Arbitrage qui gouvernent les organismes sportifs, on peut se rendre compte qu’ils comprennent des dispositions spécifiques déterminant la compétence des Instances Arbitrales par rapport à la notion de Sport. Avec la croissance et la prospérité des échanges commerciaux à l’échelle internationale, l’Arbitrage s’est révélé être le recours préféré en matière de transaction internationale. De là, et devant l’internationalisation et la complexité des litiges, les législations et les jurisprudences internes des Etats, ont reconnu et consacré la pratique de l’Arbitrage<br>Sports practice today is subject to a wide variety of rules of different origins that draw separate legal orders, private and public: state legal orders and sports legal orders whose relations often take the form of a "positive organized legal pluralism. Lex sportiva or the right to sport can be defined as the set of rules that govern the rights and obligations of athletes. It deals in particular with the sports regulations of the various sports federations, the doping, the rules of transfer of players. Litigation can be defined as a dispute or disagreement between two parties, physical or moral, some of which dispute the others to be "holders of a right to the exercise of which they claim". Disagreement between the parties to the dispute may arise from a contract or a factual situation. These parties will first try to resolve their dispute amicably, if they can’t achieve an agreement, the dispute will be submitted to a court that will decide. We find litigation in all areas, civil, commercial, administrative, sports. The sport sector, or more specifically the sports conflicts, which are of various kinds and whose regulation requires the use of specialized bodies in the field and the application of texts specific to this type of sport. Disputes and conflicts constitute the main object of research of this work. Sports disputes can be resolved in ordinary courts. However, the inadequacy of the latter in disputes requiring specific technical skills which must be taken into account in the shortness of a career, to be settled rapidly, has led to the recourse - more and more frequently - to alternative methods of settlement of disputes conflicts. Unlike other disputes, which have a contrasting situation, the situation of sports disputes is clear, transparent, and original. To do this, and to meet their specific needs, sports organizations have created and developed specific legislative rules that ensure their functioning, and have constituted bodies that ensure the proper application of the rules they have enacted. Sporting conflicts are therefore regulated by special rules and statutes and specialized sports, which allow the parties to a dispute to lead to practical and satisfactory solutions. It can be said that the regularization of sports activity can be done autonomously and escape the public authorities, the state order. The Sports Regulations are therefore autonomous and supreme regulations with regard to the state legislations. The creation of these specific regulations, has led to the creation of specialized jurisdictional bodies competent to settle conflicts of sports organizations, and which operate in accordance with their regulatory power. In reviewing the Arbitration Rules governing sports organizations, it can be seen that they include specific provisions determining the jurisdiction of the Arbitral Instances in relation to the concept of Sport. With the growth and prosperity of international trade, arbitration has proven to be the preferred international transaction. Hence, and in the face of internationalization and the complexity of litigation, the domestic laws and jurisprudences of States have recognized and sanctioned the practice of arbitration

Sports leadership has received increased promotion during the past two decades, as a tool for providing individuals with leadership skills and in contributing towards community sport development objectives. Sports Leaders UK (SLUK) play a key role in providing sports leadership training programmes in the UK, training over 200,000 leaders each year. This aims of this research was to evaluate the work of SLUK, in contributing towards the development of sport the personal and career development of the leaders undertaking the awards. A mixed methods approach was adopted to achieve ‘enhancement’ of findings. The first quantitative phase involved binary logistic regression analysis of SLUK’s candidate database (n=76,179) and set out to identify the predictor variables associated with award completion. The second quantitative phase provided analysis of surveys (n=76), and set out to explore relationships between the leaders’ career and personal development and involvement in the SLUK awards. The final qualitative study sought to gain the views and perspectives of the sports leaders who had engaged with the SLUK awards through the use of semi-structured interviews (n=16). This study aimed to further investigate the impact of SLUK awards on career development and in contributing towards sport and other community outcomes. Results showed that the SLUK awards were perceived to contribute to developing sport, particularly within the school environment. Furthermore, with the training and development of more sports leaders who are actively leading sport, more opportunities were found to be provided across the UK. Engagement in the awards was found to increase feelings of self-worth, which in turn helped build self-esteem and confidence in the leaders. Important factors which appeared to be associated with award completion and continued leadership behaviour included location of the award (i.e. centre type) and choice of participation in the awards. The research provides original contribution to knowledge by exploring the impact of SLUK awards on the leaders’ personal development and community sport. Future delivery of sports leadership needs to be focused in communities if sports leaders are to make the transition from schools to community clubs and continue volunteering. Support from mentors was found to be crucial in ensuring that sports leaders sustain their voluntary leadership.

LEU pasižymi puikiomis sporto tradicijomis ir per savo gyvavimo laikotarpį yra išugdę ne vieną Lietuvą garsinusį sportininką. Tyrinėjant LEU sporto raidą, masiškumą ir sporto pasiekimus, iškyla mokslinė problema – koks yra sporto mokslo vaidmuo studentų mokymui, užimtumui, saviraiškai ir mokymo programų viešinimui.
Tyrimo tikslas – atskleisti, LEU studentų dalyvavimą vidaus varžybose, kaip masinio užimtumo reiškinį, įvertinti jų sportinius pasiekimus Lietuvos ir tarptautiniu lygmeniu bei aptarti jų laimėjimų kaitos tendencijas.
Tyrimo uždaviniai:
1. Apibūdinti masinį LEU studentų sportą per 2002 –2013 metus, apibendrinant jų pokyčius bei įvairovę, domėjimąsi renkantis mokymosi dalykus.
2. Atlikti LEU studentų, dalyvavusių įvairaus rango Lietuvos studentų varžybose, rezultatų analizę, bei juos apibendrinti.
3. Įvertinti LEU studentų pasiekimus Europos, pasaulio čempionatuose ir olimpinėse žaidynėse, jų reikšmę universiteto bei Lietuvos prestižui.
Tyrimas buvo atliktas 2012 – 2014 mokslo metais Lietuvos edukologijos universitete. Analizei pasirinkti 2002-2013 metai, per kuriuos buvo surengtos LEU (VPU) vidaus varžybos ir masiniai sporto renginiai, aprašyti LEU studentai ir jų veikla, apžvelgti informaciniai-istoriniai sporto biuleteniai. Taip pat ištirtos Lietuvos aukštųjų mokyklų varžybos, kuriose dalyvavo LEU studentai, SELL studentų žaidynės, ir LEU sportininkai. Under investigation of LEUs sports development, the mass of it, sport achievements we come to a scientific issue – what role does it take in teaching, busyness, self-expression and publicity of educational programs.
The goal of research – to reveal the activity of LEU students in universities contests as act of mass busyness, to evaluate their sport achievements comparing to local and international level, to discuss the trend of their victory changes.
Research tasks:
1. Describe the mass sport in LEU during year of 2002 – 2013, summing up the changes and variety in choosing the educational subjects.
2. Analyze the results of LEU students in various categories of competitions and sum them up.
3. Evaluate the achievements of LEU students in Europe’s, world’s championships and Olympic Games, their importance of universities Lithuania’s prestige.
Research took place at Lithuania’s University of educational sciences in 2012 – 2014. The information for analysis was gathered from the event records of 2002-2013. The hosting of major sports events is commonly assumed to generate positive outcomes and impacts for different beneficiaries, which often is the premise for public investment in them. Set against a backdrop of increased competition for elite sporting success and the desire to host events globally in recent years, the author's published research investigates some of these consequences. One aspect of the research critically analyses the consequences generated by event attendees for non-attendees in economic impact terms. It also addresses the issue of attendance measurement, which is of particular relevance to event economic impact analysis, in the context of events that are free-to-view. Furthermore, the research evaluates non-monetary consequences for event attendees from the perspective of spectators and competitors. In terms of spectators, it focuses on potential sport development effects (attitudinal changes towards sport participation) arising from event attendance. For competitors, it concentrates on elite performance issues including the home advantage phenomenon. The research was quantitatively driven and utilised a combination of primary data collection via surveys (for the economic impact and sport development aspects) and secondary data analysis (for the elite performance aspect). This paper identifies the main gaps in knowledge that are addressed by the research and teases out the contribution of the published works to contemporary academic thinking and industry practice. In doing so, it reveals the capacity of sports events to deliver monetary and non-monetary outcomes and impacts, technical issues and practical challenges associated with their assessment, and the nature of relationships between the work themes. The practical implications of the research programme for event organisers, national governing bodies and public funding agencies are discussed and general direction for future research is proposed.

Though the videogames market was already in a period of huge growth, the limitations imposed on the other entertainment sectors like sports, music, and cinema, have boosted much more this evolution both in value and number of gamers, obtaining also more relevance by traditional media.
This paper discusses four themes associated with videogames: the origins of gaming and the birth of E-sports, a sector in which we will focus the attention in many arguments; the E-sports market and its organization, looking at the economic situation in Italy and the world, the players involved and the new job positions created by this new market; the business model of videogames market, understanding how this market earns money with a focus also on mobile gaming and marketing strategies used; and the future opportunities of this market, looking at experts forecasting and futuristic projects that the biggest companies of this sector are developing.
Finally, the increase of videogames and e-sports data availability and the growth of interest in the market provides a lot of research opportunities in economics fields but also in human behaviors and social dynamics.

Cela signifie qu'elle peut porter a confusion dans le champ sportif, puisque sous le terme de violence tous les dysfonctionnements du sport peuvent y etre ranges. C'est la raison pour laquelle notre travail cherche a prouver que la violence en sport n'existe pas en soi et qu'elle n'est qu'une production sociale. Autrement dit, le but de cette etude est de montrer que les representations de la violence sont organisees socialement et marquees au coeur meme des sports. Pour ce faire, nous avons interroge quatre cent cinquante competiteurs masculins issus de dix pratiques sportives ainsi que soixante quinze entraineurs et presidents de club de la communaute urbaine de strasbourg. Trois questionnaires ont ete soumis, un pour chacune des positions occupees dans l'espace. Soixante interviews semi-directives ont egalement ete realisees aupres de quelques-uns de ces agents. Il apparait au vu des resultats des sportifs que la violence differe significativement selon les espaces sportifs et selon l'importance des enjeux et des types d'enjeux dans les pratiques sportives. De la meme maniere, il semble que la violence varie significativement selon les investissements sportifs des agents et leurs proprietes sociales. En ce qui concerne les entraineurs et les presidents, les resultats tendent a mettre en exergue d'une part des differences significatives entre pratiques au niveau des representations de la violence en sport et d'autre part que les presidents et les entraineurs sont de possibles gestionnaires de la violence en sport.

La préparation mentale ou psychologique revêt une importance capitale dans le cadre de la haute performance. Le but de cette étude est de recenser les modes et les techniques de préparation a la compétition utilises par les gymnastes de très haut niveau, de les systématiser et d'élaborer un programme d'entrainement mental suite à cette analyse clinique. Ce programme est ensuite valide par des procédures expérimentales. Nous en étudions les effets sur différentes variables : la performance et sa régularité, le développement de l'imagerie et son utilisation. Nous nous intéressons aussi a paramètre temporel de l'image et plus particulièrement a la durée d'exécution mentale d'une action. Les résultats obtenus font apparaitre que l'entrainement mental associe à l'entrainement physique entraine une amélioration de la performance supérieure à celle de l'entrainement physique, a deux agrès (barres asymétriques, sol) et un perfectionnement des modalités d'imagerie (imagiers visuelle et kinesthésique et contrôle). Ce développement est affecté par certains paramètres tels que l’âge et les différences individuelles en matière d'imagerie. Nous avons aussi mis en évidence que les habitudes d'utilisation de cette technique changent peu et que la similitude entre le temps d'exécution réelle et le temps d'exécution mentale dépend de la spécificité de l'agrès et de l’âge du sujet. Cette similitude ne témoigne pas de la qualité de la performance ni de son amélioration, mais par contre se révèle être un indicateur pertinent de la qualité du contrôle de l'image et de son amélioration<br>Mental training is very important for high level performance. The aim of this study so to make an inventory of mental techniques used by elite gymnasts, to systematize them and to elaborate a mental training program. Then, this program is testes and we study these effects on the performance, on its regularity, on the imagery development and on imagery use. We also study the temporal parameter: mental movement times were compared with real movement times. Results show that the gymnasts, practicing mental training combined with physical training, improve their performances at two apparatus (bars and floor) and their imagery ability (visual and kinesthetic imagery, control) more than the gymnasts, practicing only physical training. This development depends on the age and individual imagery differences of subjects. We observe no important change in imagery use. We notice that the similarity between mental movement times and real movement times depends on apparatus and on the age the subjects. This similarity has no influence on performance but it's a good indicator of imagery control quality

The current statistics on sports facilities suggests that 4 billion NOK (divided on 700 facilities) are planned to be used annually for new sports facility projects and renovation projects of old sports facilities. These statistics are based on planned projects and not on realized projects. In addition, it is not distinguished between new facility projects and facility renovation projects. The current statistics is based on applications for so-called gaming funds, which are all registered in a sports facilities information system. The information system is complicated to use, and the data in the register is not perfect: it is inconsistent and sometimes incorrect or incomplete. This thesis provides an overview of the number of built sports facilities in Norway between 1996 and 2016. Further, it provides cost statistics for sports halls, based on extracted data from the information system, which was preprocessed and then analyzed using regression models and ANOVA. This work shows that, in average, 560 sports facilities have been built each year between 1996 and 2015 (1 000 facilities if one includes so-called local activity facilities). In average 24 sports halls have been built each year, with an average cost of 36 million NOK. Sports halls built in Oslo have in average costed 14 to 23 million NOK more to build than sports halls in the rest of Norway.

Les résultats empiriques, issus d'une enquête de terrain et d'entretiens semi-directifs ont permis : D'une part, de comprendre comment la dynamique de professionnalisation des experts de BMX - Bicross - a été contrecarré par la "personnalité " singulière du BMX, structurée autour d'une valeur centrale: l'autonomie. Le système BMX a lutté contre la stratégie de récupération opérée par l'Union Cycliste Internationale pour s'accaparer le contrôle et la gestion de cette pratique sportive nouvelle et de ses dérivés. Cette résistance aux niveaux international et national n'a cependant pas permis d'éviter l'intégration au sein de cette dernière entité. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury continues to present with varying gender disparity by sport as more recently evidenced by high injury rates in the Australian Football League – Women’s (AFLW). Prevalent in many sports is the performance of sidestepping tasks in situations of high spatial and temporal constraints that could be termed a ‘worst-case scenario’ regarding the ACL injury. However, there has been inconclusive evidence if fatigue is an additional contributor to risk of ACL injury. The purpose of this thesis was three fold: (1) to examine if a team sport conditioning circuit changed the movement strategy, defined as a shift in peak joint power absorption, in elite women’s hockey players, (2) describe the current mechanisms by which ACL injuries occur in an emerging women’s sport, Australian Football (AF) and (3) consider through comparison of available information the applicability of knowledge gained from an established women’s sport (hockey) to inform recommendations for an emerging women’s sport (AFLW). Study one identified a shift of peak joint power absorption away from the hip and toward the knee during the unplanned condition and further during the unplanned condition after a sport conditioning circuit. Study two identified that a majority of in-game ACL ruptures in AFLW occurred during the first half of the season and predominantly occurred during the second quarter. Finally, the comparison of elite women’s hockey and AFLW revealed higher fitness levels and greater access to resources and support for women’s hockey that should be examined in future on their influence for the higher ACL injury incidence in AFLW. This information highlights evaluating individual movement strategy during sidestepping and the need for a more comprehensive approach to assess the whole of sporting system efficacy of development of AFLW athletes to determine if they have been physically prepared and provided the time and provisions for such preparation required to meet the demands of the elite level prior to conclusions on their inherent risk of injury as women.

Free sports are the phenomena that have rapidly developed from lifestyle activities to professional competitive sports over the last several decades. Known for distinctive counter-culture values, many popular free sports, such as snowboarding or BMX, have recently become largely commercialized and experienced significant organizational change. The main research question of this study is how free sports have organizationally evolved over time. This thesis focuses on patterns and mechanisms of structural change and evolution of values of these sports. The research utilized a multiple case qualitative methodology and is presented as a cross-case study of three international sports: competitive snowboarding, competitive skateboarding, and sport climbing. A review of existing literature identified the theory of new institutionalism as being particularly relevant to this study and thus, supplemented by resource-dependence theory, this forms the theoretical framework for this research. This study found that as a result of organizational evolution, informal organizational arrangements, which were historically typical for free sports, have not been uniformly replaced by formalized structural arrangements of mainstream sports. In addition, the organizational fields of these free sports are found to have adopted multiple logics, such as commercial, competitive, and traditional free sport logics. The notion of cultural legitimacy of international sport organizations appears to be central to explaining organizational evolution of free sports. As conflicts revolving over the “ownership” of international sports and the practice of “umbrella” governance are found to be of great concern in free sports, it is the relationship between cultural and regulatory legitimacy that these issues are addressed through. Finally, it is found that multiple power/dependence relationships existing in organizational fields of free sports are largely underpinned by commercial interests and strategies of the Olympic movement. In terms of contribution to theoretical knowledge, this study extends previous applications of institutional and resource-dependence theories to free sports and reveals that the process of institutionalization of sports does not necessarily lead to change of values in macro perspective. However, it can facilitate and foster a separation between two different “versions” of the same sports: competitive sports and traditional sports. This study contributes to wider practical sport management knowledge by raising a question of sustainability of culturally legitimate but unconventional international sport organizations in the global sport business. Another implication of this study is challenging the IOC as a source of regulatory legitimacy for sports and questioning the belief that all sports strive for the Olympic Games, which is taken for granted as the ultimate goal of evolution of sports in a global context. This is a major call of this study to both academics and practitioners, as governance of international sports is expected to remain the topic of a great debate in academic literature and popular media.

This study draws upon a wide range of research to examine underachievement in UK schools. With underachievement continuing to be present within the UK’s educational system, it is essential that a remedy is found. The notion that physical activity is linked to an increase in academic performance is not a new concept; however researchers are still trying to determine the scope of such a claim. There is a widespread belief that sport can be used as a vehicle to promote positive youth development. In particular, using sport to teach adolescents various life skills has become popular over the previous decade. However, little research has looked at the transfer of life skills into other academic and life domains. Therefore the overarching purpose of this study was to determine if an after-school, sports based life skills programme had any impact on male underachievement within the UK education system. The Transfer-Ability Programme (TAP) was a multi-faceted intervention, which sought to teach twenty underachieving, male students life skills through sport. The results have been presented in three phases with Phase 1 determining the impact of TAP on academic performance in Science, Phase 2 examined the perceptions of the twelve-thirteen year old participants on whether they transferred life skills from the sports hall into the classroom during TAP, and Phase 3 explored the enablers and barriers that facilitated or prevented life transfer. Statistical results indicate that the intervention groups’ academic grades significantly improved during the intervention to a level above teaching prediction. This suggests that teaching life skills through sport may reduce male underachievement. T-tests show that the participants in the intervention group perceived their learning of life skills to significantly increase pre-post TAP. Interview data also supports the notion that the intervention group participants perceived to have learnt the life skills and then transferred them into other academic domains. Phase 3 highlighted five themes that enable or prevent life skill transfer; Support from peers, Pride, Opportunities, Rewards and Transfer experience. These themes are collectively referred to as the SPORT model. The results show that young adolescent males can learn and transfer life skills if deliberately taught to do so. Finally, the findings are discussed with reference to how teachers and physical educators may teach life skills within their lessons, and how life skill transfer may be supported.

The purpose of this study was to explore the efficacy of using loyalty programs on sport fans’ relationship quality and fan engagement toward sport organizations. This study also sought to explore which relationship quality and fan engagement factors potentially differed as a result of using loyalty programs. Since there are two major defined sport levels, differences were explored across niche and mainstream sport organizations. Using relationship marketing as the theoretical framework, participants (n = 678) were administered a 55-item instrument that included revised relationship quality and fan engagement scales. Quantitative data were used to run confirmatory factor analyses, analyses of covariance, and multivariate analyses of covariance.
Results first showed that significant differences existed between mainstream sport fans that have access to a loyalty program and mainstream sport fans that do not have access to a loyalty program. Mainstream sport fans that have access to a loyalty program had higher identification and reciprocity. Mainstream sport fans that do not have access to a loyalty program were found to have higher overall fan engagement, commitment, intimacy, and performance tolerance. Results also showed differences between niche sport fans that have access to a loyalty program and mainstream sport fans that have access to a loyalty program. Mainstream sport fans that have access to a loyalty program were divided into two groups (simple or complex) based on the design of the loyalty programs. Niche sport fans that have access to a loyalty program were found to have higher overall relationship quality, trust, intimacy, management cooperation, and performance tolerance.
The findings provide an introduction in to the possibility that loyalty programs could be effective for increasing relationship quality for both niche and mainstream sport organizations. Moreover, for niche sport organizations that have access to fewer resources, it is encouraging that the use of a loyalty program appears to have the capabilities to build stronger relationships and engagement. These results provide several implications for sport organizations and sport marketers and serve as a foundation for which future research on loyalty programs can build.

E-sports, often referred to as competitive or professional gaming, stands as a prime example of the merger of work and play. A growing body of literature has started focusing on this pastime turned profession. As more professionals enter the scene and audiences continue to grow, e-sports broadcasters look towards older models of broadcasting to inform their own style. This reapplication of former conventions stands in contrast to the trends in the larger sports media trajectory. E-sports broadcasting is largely informed by traditional sports broadcasting, yet remains unable to fully capture the success of the global sports industry. On-air talent, once informed solely by traditional sportscasters are now looking to their fellow e-sportscasters to create something new. Revenue streams which form the foundation of the sports industry are making their way into e-sports but not in the way that one might expect. Through a variety of qualitative methods, including historical analysis, interviews, and fieldwork, I have investigated e-sports broadcasting to better evaluate the role traditional sports broadcasting has played in shaping the e-sports industry. These games, which usually simulate major professional or college sports, look and sound like television, and they use televised sports as a reference point for players. This thesis takes a critical look at how these televisual sports videogames are situated in the broader sports media industrial complex of North America, while also considering how the televisual design of these games is meaningful for fans of sports. Specifically, the text looks at how sports videogames reflect or reinforce dominant ideologies of hegemonic sports culture. Building on critical theories in sports studies, and through critical close readings of videogame texts, this thesis explores the relationship between sports television production, and sports videogames, with a focus on features that are found in both. In this study, we hypothesized that higher Emotional Intelligence in collegiate athletes, the ability to perceive, understand and manage oneâ s emotions, will be related to lower acts of delinquent behavior on and off the field, as well as better performance during games. Study participants were Virginia Tech Soccer, Basketball, and Football male student athletes. We assessed emotional intelligence using the MSCEIT v.2.0 and also measured self report delinquent behavior and game statistics. None of our hypotheses were supported. A major reason for the lack of evidence to support our hypotheses may have been low statistical power and possible sampling biases.<br>Master of Science

quien a través de la instalación de máquinas automáticas en el lugar donde

los factores críticos de éxito es asegurar la operación el 100% del tiempo en que
gimnasios y centros deportivos (en donde se ubiquen estas máquinas) estén
abiertos al públco, por lo que se ha tomado la determinación de utilizar tecnologia
de punta, la cual permita garantizar una experiencia de compra satisfactoria.
Dada la falta de información acerca de la venta de productos en gimnasios y
centros deportivos se tomó la decisión de considerar la industria de gimnasios
como base de referencia. Esta industria durante el año 2016 mostró un 17% de
crecimiento con respecto al año anterior en cuanto a las personas que se
asociaron a un gimnasio o centro deportivo lo cual se tradujo en una industria de
más de US$170 millones. El Informe Latin American Report desarrollado por
IHRSA indica que actualmente sólo un 2,7% de la población nacional asiste a un
gimnasio, siendo que Argentina obtuvo un 6,4% y países desarrollados alcanzan
el 15%, lo cual muestra un mercado atractivo y con altas tasas de crecimiento
proyectado de cara al futuro.
El plan financiero se desarrolló a cinco años plazos el cual entregó resultados de
un VAN de 637.606 millones de pesos y una TIR de 39,6%, teniendo menos de 3
años1 como periodo de recuperación de la inversión.

The six papers which appear in this publication were delivered at a consultative conference of the National and Olympic Sports Congress which was held in Johannesburg from 1-3 November 1991. There is no doubt that this conference on development could not have been held at a more critical juncture in South Africa's history, particularly at a time when the country stands on the threshold of an era which is expected to usher in a non-racial, democratic society. Given the legacy of apartheid, development and preparation have become priorities for the National and Olympic Sports Congress. It was against the background of the inequalities and future projections for transformation of the sports network which brought delegates together from across South Africa and from all codes of sport and co-ordinating regional councils. A central theme of the papers is that the reconstruction of South African sport demands a national programme, one that would ensure progress towards an equitable sports structure but also one that would set realistic goals without raising expectations that are unlikely to be realised. A central challenge of the conference was the search for a suitable combination of high performance sport and mass participation. The gender question in sport also came under the spotlight. Sport's male-dominated, hierarchical and sexist structure was mandated for urgent review. Conference was told that black women have very few opportunities to participate in sport unlike white sportswomen and sports people overall. Five resolutions, aimed at transforming the present state of South African sport, were adopted at the conference. After exhaustive discussions delegates identified the broad themes to be: national development and planning, national sports policy, building one sports federation, sponsorship, rural areas, affirmative action and empowerment. Conference noted the absence of a co-ordinated national sports policy, the heavy commercialisation of sport together with the lack of vision and planning for the future of sport. In this regard it was resolved to intiate the acceptance and development of a national sports policy which would emphasise development, national identity and patriotism, democracy, accountability, non-racialism and non-sexism. If the conference deliberations are to be seriously implemented then the apartheid sports network will undergo structural changes which will develop the historically disadvantaged and unleash the suppressed talents of millions of people who are trapped in an unequal and resourceless system.

State agencies in many Western nations have utilised sport and physical activity as a means of facilitating various sporting and non-sporting policy outcomes. Surprisingly, however, there remains a dearth of empirical research addressing the working lives of those community sports coaches who are responsible for enacting such initiatives. This includes not only what community sports coaches consider to be the everyday challenges, tensions, and dilemmas that they experience in their work, but also how and why they attempt to navigate these issues in the ways that they do. Similarly, little consideration has been given towards understanding how the employment demands of community sports work impacts upon their health and well-being. To partially address the situation, this thesis provides an insight into the micropolitical and emotional challenges faced by two community sports coaches, Greg and James, when enacting a government-funded initiative to increase young people’s participation in sport and physical activity. Data for this study were collected in two interrelated phases. Phase I entailed the use of participant observations to explore the behaviours and interactions of Greg and James as they sought to realise the programme outcomes in practice. Following the observations, Greg and James participated in a series of in-depth, one-to-one, informal interviews. The fieldnotes and interview transcripts were subjected to an iterative and recursive process of analysis that occurred alongside data collection and writing. Several interrelated themes were identified across Greg’s and James’s career stories and were principally understood in relation to the work of Kelchtermans (e.g. Kelchtermans, 2005; 2011; Kelchtermans & Ballet, 2002a, 2002b), Goffman (1990 [1959]), Hochschild (2012 [1983]), Bauman (2007), Burke and Stets (2009), and Stryker (2002 [1980]). I contend that the inherent structural vulnerabilities of their community coaching jobs, as well as their determination to protect and advance their respective careers in order to fulfil various non-workplace ambitions, meant that Greg and James had to learn to act micropolitically. It is believed that by recognising the ambiguity, pathos, and dynamic complexity of Greg’s and James’s community sports work this investigation offers a more reality grounded understanding of this topic area.

This thesis explores the manner in which globalisation processes are exerting transformative influences on local cultural contexts. Specifically, it utilises a case study of basketball to address the issues surrounding the juncture between local cultural identities, sport and global processes: the local-global sports nexus. Characteristic of globalisation processes are the activities of sports-related transnational corporations (TNCs) in global markets. The presence of such TNCs raises questions regarding the juncture with ostensibly indigenous cultures and identities associated with sport. The thesis constitutes several interlocking components which seek to address the multi-faceted nature of the local-global basketball interplay. First, a review of literature details both the political-economic context of the development of 'indigenous' English basketball, and the interdependencies surrounding National Basketball Association (NBA) expansion to Britain. Second, media representation within the local-global interplay is addressed in a comparative textual analysis of NBA and indigenous game coverage on British television. It is argued that local and global basketball are represented in a varying manner, which reinforces a local-global basketball hierarchy. Third, a two season multi-method ethnographic case study, incorporating: participant observations, interviews, a questionnaire and focus groups explored the consumption of 'local' basketball. The findings reveal complex responses and engagement with global processes, contextualised by the heterogenous nature of basketball fandom. Specifically, local identities and affiliations, while associated with consumption, also mediate broader global processes. The findings are discussed with reference to the relationship between local and global basketball in. Britain and within the wider theoretical debates surrounding the globalisation of sport.

Sports and technology have always co-operated to bring better and more specific sports statistics. The collection of sports game data as well as the ability to generate valuable sports statistics of it is growing. This thesis investigates the development of a sports statistics application that should be able to collect sports game data, structure the data according to suitable data models and show statistics in a proper way. The application was set to be a web application that was developed using modern web technologies. This purpose led to a comparison of different software stack solutions and web frameworks. A theoretical study of sports analytics was also conducted, which gave a foundation for how sports data could be stored and how valuable sports statistics could be generated. The resulting design of the prototype for the sports statistics application was evaluated. Interviews with persons working in sports contexts evaluated the prototype to be both user-friendly, functional and fulfilling the purpose to generate valuable statistics during sport games.

Economics of sport is not an extensively well covered subject in Sweden and the purpose of this study is to examine the impact of professional sport on the local economy, and also shed some light on the situation of this subject in Sweden. Seven municipalities housing a professional hockey team and seven municipalities without any hockey team was compared and analysed to view any differ-ence of two sets of local economies. The finding was that professional sport has no effect on the number of workers in the restaurant sector. This sector act as an indicator on how the local economy was affected. Therefore, the local government should not motivate investments and subsidies aimed at profes-sional sport with the promises that it will increase income and job in the municipalities.
