En viktig utgångspunkt för artikeln Calle Haglund – stereotyp, brand eller ikon har varit frågan vad det innebär att en politiker som sfp:s tidigare ordförande Carl ”Calle” Haglunds habitus i media uppfattats som ”ganska stereotypt finlandssvensk” och varför detta tolkats som någonting som framstår som främmande för finskspråkiga väljare. Förtroende för andra människor och samhälleliga institutioner är centralt för den sociala sammanhållningen. Tidigare forskning indikerar att förtroendenivåerna i Finland har sjunkit under de senaste decennierna.
