Abstract:
Although different methods are available for the analyses of longitudinal data, analyses based on generalized linear models (GLM) are criticized as violating the assumption of independence of observations. Alternatively, linear mixed models (LMM) are commonly used to understand changes in human behavior over time. In this paper, the basic concepts surrounding LMM (or hierarchical linear models) are outlined. Although SPSS is a statistical analyses package commonly used by researchers, documentation on LMM procedures in SPSS is not thorough or user friendly. With reference to this limitation, the related procedures for performing analyses based on LMM in SPSS are described. To demonstrate the application of LMM analyses in SPSS, findings based on six waves of data collected in the Project P.A.T.H.S. (Positive Adolescent Training through Holistic Social Programmes) in Hong Kong are presented.

Abstract:
Background. We changed the biostatistics curriculum for our medical students and have created a course entitled “Multivariate analysis of statistical data, using the SPSS package.” Purposes. The aim of this course was to develop students’ skills in computerized data analysis, as well as enhancing their ability to read and interpret statistical data analysis in the literature. Methods. In the current study we have shown that a computer-based course for biostatistics and advanced data analysis is feasible and efficient, using course specific evaluation questionnaires. Results. Its efficacy is both subjective (our subjects felt better prepared to do their theses, as well as to read articles with advanced statistical data analysis) and objective (their knowledge of how and when to apply statistical procedures seemed to improve). Conclusions. We showed that a formal evaluative process for such a course is possible and that it enhances the learning experience both for the students and their teachers. In the current study we have shown that a computer-based course for biostatistics and advanced data analysis is feasible and efficient.

Abstract:
Researchers have all too often ignored replicability of results because they overly rely on significance testing. This is a misinformed view because statistical significance does not evaluate the importance or replicability of a result. This paper focuses on two methods of assessing replicability of results, double cross-validation and bootstrap procedures. Selected variables from Hughes, Cavell, and Grossman's (1997) data set of 112 cases are used to illustrate all these techniques as applied to the interpretation of multiple regression results. One statistical computer package SPSS is used for the double cross-validation procedure, and a 1987 microcomputer program package of Lunneborg is used to demonstrate the bootstrap procedure.

We describe software and present theoretical and applied sources for teaching a graduate course in structural equation modeling. We recommend Linear Structural Relations (LISREL; Jöreskog & Sörbom, 1989) as the primary structural equation modeling software because it is the most generally applicable and widely available of the appropriate software packages, and it is fully supported by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS, 1988). We also suggest relevant background readings, recommend principal textbook sources and review articles, and advocate reading empirical journal articles to accompany the core texts. These sources are offered as part of a comprehensive teaching approach designed to impart an appreciation for and working knowledge of LISREL-based structural equation modeling.

Abstract:
Business sustainability of services-rendering organisations is one of the major concerns for those at managerial levels world-wide. This paper offers explanations on how best to achieve sustainable competitive advantage by communicating entrepreneurial values through human resource development programmes in the banking industry. The research reported in this paper adopted a non-experimental research design of ex post facto type, utilising a correlational approach with advanced explanatory design. Based on the principle of convenience sampling, 380 questionnaires were distributed to employees of two Nigerian banks. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested using inferential statistics via two statistical software packages: the IBM Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23 and the IBM SPSS Analysis of Moment Structure (AMOS) version 23. The results show that human resource development partially mediates the relationship between entrepreneurial culture and sustainable competitive advantage in the Nigerian banking sector. The results suggest an enhancement of entrepreneurial values through continuous learning and development programmes toward sustainable competitive advantage. It is recommended that sustainability of banks operating in Nigeria could be enhanced by communicating and managing entrepreneurial orientations through effective learning and development programmes. Ambidextrous banks will require creativity, innovation and proactive capabilities in the process of exploiting and exploring both current and future business opportunities for sustained competitive advantage.

Abstract:
With the development of the Internet, virtual reality technology is manifested in various products through a more intuitive visual experience. As the carrier of virtual reality technology, according to many predictions, smart wearable devices will be the main development direction in the next few years; the era of intelligence also provides new requirements and new challenges for the education and teaching mode of ordinary colleges and universities. This paper aims to integrate wearable smart devices into public physical education, adopt comparative experiment method and data statistics method, and design and conduct teaching experiments with wearable smart devices based on the Internet of Things technology. The experimental class students’ shooting percentage score increased from 12.80 points to 21.43 points, calculated by SPSS. SPSS is “Statistical Products and Service Solutions” software. Initially, the full name of the software was “Statistical Software Package for Social Sciences.” However, with the expansion of the SPSS product service field and the increase of service depth, SPSS officially changed the English full name to “Statistical Products and Service Solutions” in 2000, which marked the strategic direction of SPSS which is making major adjustments. SPSS is the general term for a series of software products and related services for statistical analysis operations, data mining, predictive analysis, and decision support tasks launched by IBM. There are Windows and Mac OS X versions. P = 0.003 < 0.01 , which showed very obvious difference. At the same time, after the experiment, the comparison of the two groups of students’ skill scores showed that there is also a significant difference ( P = 0.003 < 0.05 ). A modern leap-forward teaching model that organically integrates wearable smart devices and public physical education is realized.

Abstract:
Cohen’s kappa coefficient was originally proposed for two raters only, and it later extended to an arbitrarily large number of raters to become what is known as Fleiss’ generalized kappa. Fleiss’ generalized kappa and its large-sample variance are still widely used by researchers and were implemented in several software packages, including, among others, SPSS and the R package “rel.” The purpose of this article is to show that the large-sample variance of Fleiss’ generalized kappa is systematically being misused, is invalid as a precision measure for kappa, and cannot be used for constructing confidence intervals. A general-purpose variance expression is proposed, which can be used in any statistical inference procedure. A Monte-Carlo experiment is presented, showing the validity of the new variance estimation procedure.

Statistical models of the hail forecast are proposed for the two regions of the North Caucasus, developed from the output of the global atmosphere model GFS NCEP. Statistical schemes are obtained as a result of discriminant analysis conducted using statistical software package SPSS. Independent variables in these schemes are the most informative predictors of strong convective cloud development, calculated on the basis of the global GFS model data related to local atmospheric instability and large-scale synoptic processes. Based on the results of the operational audit, the estimates of the success of the hail forecasts according to existing criteria are given, the high values of which assume a reduction in damage from hailstorms, when using them.

Abstract:
Construction investments are sensitive to time and cost overruns. Delay and cost escalation are considered two threats to project success. The project objective is to develop a model to predict project cost and duration based on historical data of similar projects. Statistical regression models are developed using real data of building projects. The methodology is adopted in 3 steps: a) Data collection b) Statistical analysis using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software c) Interpretation of results. The real data of cost and duration of 51 building projects have been collected. In statistics, regression analysis is a statistical process for estimating the relationships among variables. It includes many techniques for modelling and analyzing several variables, when the focus is on the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables. The analysis is done using SPSS developed by IBM Corporation. The Regression models have been developed using the data collected from Noel Builders, Kakkanad, Ernakulam to predict the project cost and duration. The developed models are validated using split sample approach. The model outputs can be used by project managers in the planning phase to validate the scheduled critical path time and project budget.
