Abstract:
1075 Background: Trophoblast antigen 2 (Trop2) is a glycoprotein expressed by many cancers. A phase I study of the trop2 antibody drug conjugate (ADC) IMMU-132 has shown promising activity in triple negative (TN) BC. We studied associations of primary BC trop2e with clinical characteristics, outcomes, and selected genes in publically available databases. Methods: Trop2e was evaluated with microarray data from the neoadjuvant I-SPY 1 (n=149), METABRIC (n=1992) & TCGA (n=817) databases. Associations with clinical features were assessed with the Kruskal-Wallis test (all). Correlations with chemotherapy response were evaluated with the Wilcoxon rank sum test (I-SPY 1) & with recurrence free survival (RFS) by the Cox proportional hazard model (I-SPY 1 & METABRIC). Pearson correlations were used to study associations between trop2e & selected genes (all). Results: In all 3 datasets, trop2 was detectable and had a wide range of expression in all BC subtypes. In I-SPY 1, trop2e did not vary by hormone receptor (HR) & HER2 or intrinsic subtype; in METABRIC & TCGA trop2e was lower in HER2+ than HR+/HER2- & TNBC (METABRIC p=0.03, TCGA p=0.007) & in HER2+ enriched and luminal B BC (p < 0.001, METABRIC & TCGA). Trop2e was higher in grade I vs. II/III BC in METABRIC (p < 0.001). No association with chemotherapy response was seen (I-SPY 1) or with RFS (I-SPY 1 & METABRIC). The table below shows significant (p<0.05) gene correlations with trop2e in ≥2 datasets. Conclusions: Trop2e is seen in all BC subtypes, particularly luminal A and TNBC. Trop2e correlates with the expression of genes involved in cell epithelial transformation, adhesion, and proliferation and inversely with immune genes, which may contribute to tumor growth. These findings support the use of trop 2 directed ADC in all BC subtypes. [Table: see text]

Abstract:
Scandinavian crime novels and their adaptations as TV dramas and films, commonly known as Nordic noir, are very popular in Germany. Nordic noir often has a political content and when spies appear, they are usually portrayed negatively. Scandinavian spy novels and their adaptations, on the other hand – with the exception of Guillou’s Coq Rouge series – never reached wide audiences in Germany.

Abstract:
The production of cuttings by vegetative propagation is essential to obtain the desired accomplishment in genetic improvement programs and ensure the success of forest establishment. However there are many factors that prevent their use in a comprehensive manner considering the production of cuttings for some forest species especially in low rooting rate. In order to meet this need research on the use of substances that promote greater rooting rates of minicuttings and growth of cuttings have been developed with the use of growth regulators and biostimulants based on humic substances. Thus the purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of foliar fertilizers and soil conditioners in the production of Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis vs. elliottii var. elliottii and Pinus tecunumanii vs. caribaea var. hondurensis hybrids cuttings. The experiment was conducted in the city of Paranapanema-SP using cutting nursery with delineation of randomized blocks in a factorial arrangement 4x2, lasting six months. It used two soil conditioners, the C1 based on marine fish and C2 based on humic acids and 4 foliar fertilizers, the AF1 chitosan base, AF2 based on marine fish, AF3 based on humic acid and AF4 by Ascoplhyllum nodosum seaweed extract, besides the mixture of fertilizers M1AF (AF2;AF3;AF4) and M2AF (AF1;AF3;AF4). Two experiments were implemented: 1) hybrid of P. caribaea var. hondurensis vs. elliottii var. elliottii, testing the combination of two soil conditioners as well as fertilizers AF2, AF3, AF4 and M1AF and 2) hybrid of P. tecunumanii vs. caribaea var. hondurensis in which the only change in treatment was the AF2 by AF1 and M1AF by M2AF. Cuttings were evaluated in three phases as follows: 1) greenhouse: rooting rate; 2) shade house: higher, aerial drywet mass and radicial part as well as the relationship between them; 3) hardening: the shade house had the same variables evaluated, in addition with the nutritional status of needles. For the experiment 1, the rooting rate with C2 + AF3 were 46.67% higher compared with the control, this stated the positive effect of humic substances on rooting. Considering the hardening phase C1 + AF3 interaction promoted greater seedling growth. For the experiment 2 there was no difference in rooting rates at greenhouse, because the characteristic of fast growth of P. tecunumanii. In hardening phase, the foliar fertilizer AF4 promoted greater growth only in height. In the shade house treatments did not promote significant growth for both hybrids. Nutritional contents analyzed the needles leaves are within appropriate levels for both experiments. Mn showed only low level, but without deficiency symptoms in the experiment 2. Different answers were obtained on hybrids when subjected to similar treatment and to determine the appropriate treatment will depend on the obstaclecuttings production, which may either rooting or growth.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Matcheswala, Akil Mannan. "GOLD NANOSPHERES AND GOLD NANORODS AS LOCALIZED SURFACE PLASMON RESONANCE SENSORS." UKnowledge, 2010. http://uknowledge.uky.edu/gradschool_theses/60.

Full text
Abstract:
A novel localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor that differentiates between background refractive index changes and surface-binding of a target analyte (e.g. a target molecule, protein, or bacterium) is presented. Standard, single channel LSPR sensors cannot differentiate these two effects as their design allows only one mode to be coupled. This novel technique uses two surface plasmon modes to simultaneously measure surface binding and solution refractive index changes. This increases the sensitivity of the sensor. Different channels or modes can be created in sensors with the introduction of gold nanospheres or gold nanorods that act as receptor mechanisms. Once immobilization was achieved on gold nanospheres, the technique was optimized to achieve the same immobilization for gold nanorods to get the expected dual mode spectrum. Intricate fabrication methods are illustrated with using chemically terminated self assembled monolayers. Then the fabrication process advances from chemically silanized nanoparticles, on to specific and systematic patterns generated with the use of Electron Beam Lithography. Comparisons are made within the different methods used, and guidelines are set to create possible room for improvement. Some methods implemented failed, but there was a lot to learn from these unsuccessful outcomes. Finally, the applications of the dual mode sensor are introduced, and current venues where the sensors can be used in chemical and biological settings are discussed.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Mestrado APNOR
Hotels are a vital part of the chain of services installed around tourism and for this reason they have caught the manager's attention. This being said, the main objective of this assignment is to evaluate what determines the satisfaction, and the importance of the services provided by EXE Penafiel Park Hotel & Spa to their guests. To make this analysis the guests answered some questions brought to them in a chart placed in their bedroom. Initially it was intended to collect the data from November 2015 to February 2016, but it wasn't enough so the deadline was extended until June 2016. For this we applied the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) developed by Martilla and James (1997). After assessing what determines the quality of service, the next step is to analyze the subjacent strategy e posteriorly recommend that strategy to the hotel management. Based on the results that came from applying the Importance-Performance Analysis, it was possible to identify that the "Instalments and Front Desk" meant the least when it came to satisfaction and importance to the guests. "Quality of Service" had low importance but meant much more when it came to satisfaction to the hotel guests. In the meal's service, an immediate improvement was necessary since it was very important but had low satisfaction rates. Lastly, the “Spa” and "General" category scored high importance and high satisfaction among guests. All things considered, it was an average rating, with highs and lows when it came to importance and also satisfaction. And based on the IPA applied it's notorious that some services need improvement so everything is satisfactory to the hotel's guests

Viruses and nanoflagellates are known to exert an important control on picoplankton (bacteria and Synechococcus spp.). In parallel with the study of picoplankton dynamics (abundance and distribution) in surface waters of upriver and estuary of the Danshui River, we used a modified dilution technique during different seasonal periods (October, 2012 and January, April and July, 2013) in order to assess nanoflagellate- versus virus-induced mortality of bacteria and Synechococcus spp. In this study, abundance of bacteria and viruses in the upriver region was significantly higher than that at the river estuary. However, Synechococcus spp. did not follow the spatial pattern with bacteria and viruses, abundance of Synechococcus spp. were relatively low during the whole sampling period in the upriver region. Furthermore, seasonal variations of bacterial growth rates varied between 0.11 and 0.201 h-1 and 0.11 and 0.17 h-1 at upriver and estuary site, respectively, with higher growth rates of bacteria detected in July 2013. Synechococcus spp. growth rates ranged from 0.14 to 0.18 h-1 in the upriver region and from 0.11 to 0.14 h-1 in the estuary. These results suggest that seasonal temperature might control seasonal variations in bacterial and Synechococcus spp. growth. Bacterial carbon losses generated by nanoflagellate grazing were generally higher than those caused by viral lysis in the upriver region during the study periods. Looking specifically at the Synechococcus spp., viral lysis appeared to be the main factor in removing Synechococcus spp. in the upriver and estuary region of Danshui River. The results of our dilution experiments suggest that nanoflagellates largely depend on bacteria as an important energy source in the Danshui River.

Abstract:
This chapter places Texas and California on the national spectrum of state tax policy and shows how they occupy opposite poles. Texas has maintained a low overall tax burden and is one of a small number of states that has steadfastly refused to adopt an income tax. Advocates of the Texas tax system argue that it protects personal freedom, promotes economic growth, and provides the state a crucial advantage in attracting new residents and businesses. Critics say the system is regressive and fails to produce adequate funding for government programs. By comparison, California has embraced a far higher tax burden and a progressive tax structure. Its largest revenue source, the personal income tax, is the highest in the nation. Advocates say California’s tax system generates needed funding for government programs and appropriately shifts the tax burden to those most able to pay, while critics say these taxes are excessive and help drive residents and businesses out of the state.

Abstract:
Surface plasmons (SPs) are collective excitations of free electrons in a conducting medium bounded by a surface or interface with a dielectric. They can originate surface plasmon-polaritons (SPPs), which are evanescent waves involving electron density oscillations and the associated electromagnetic (EM) field whose amplitude decays exponentially with distance from the surface. SPPs are characterised by a dispersion curve (frequency vs wavevector along the interface) that lies outside of the light cone, so they cannot be excited directly by propagating light; however, it is possible to excite them using the Attenuated Total internal Reflection (ATR) method or a periodic grating. SPs in a confined geometry such as a metallic sphere are localised in space and characterised by discrete frequencies (a single one in the case of sphere, two or three in the case of an ellipsoid). They can be excited directly by propagating light if its frequency coincides with the localised SP frequency, giving rise to the Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR). Both SPPs and LSPR are highly sensitive to the dielectric constant of the surrounding media and can be used for environment sensing (e.g. gas molecules that adsorb onto the structure’s surface).

Abstract:
Mathematical models that describe the static growth processes of sputtered and ion-beam deposited amorphous carbon films are established. Two important factors are considered in deriving the models: the film porosity and the growth randomness. The growth randomness for both hydrogenated sputter carbon and hydrogenated ion-beam carbon films are deduced from the film roughness vs. film thickness data obtained from X-ray reflectometry. The porosities of the two types of films are estimated from the experimentally determined values of film densities and sp3/sp2 C–C bonding ratios. The derived film growth models, which find support from a surface coverage experiment, have allowed us to predict the surface coverage of the two types of carbon films in the thickness range of interest. We find that, neglecting intermixing at the substrate/carbon interface, the denser ion-beam carbon films are nearly as effective at achieving a similar level of surface coverage as the less dense sputter carbon films at twice the thicknesses. Our surface coverage model points to further increasing the carbon film density as the most effective approach for the continued reduction in the carbon overcoat thickness while maintaining adequate surface coverage.
