The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of teaching a study strategy on the ability of fifth-grade students to read a social studies textbook. The specific strategy was survey, question, read, recite, and review (SQ3R) (Robinson, 1961). It was taught as an integral part of the social studies lesson.
