Abstract Simon Forman's astrological casebooks record thousands of medical consultations. Amidst the wealth of information in these documents, however, it is unclear to what extent Forman relied on the stars for diagnoses and therapies, or how the casebooks reflect the dynamic between Forman and his clients. This article attempts to answer these questions by reading the casebooks alongside Forman's guide to astrological physic. This approach reveals that astrology was paramount in Forman's evaluations and treatments of his patients. According to Forman, in order for him to effect a cure, he ha

To emphasize the superiority of the proposed model, we have used the Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) as the subjective criterion. Numerical experiments with different images show that our algorithm has the highest PSNR and SS1M, as well as the best visual quality among the six algorithms. Purpose – This study aims to aid theory building, the use of decision theory (DT) concepts in sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) research is examined. Design/methodology/approach – An abductive approach considers two DT concepts, Snowden’s Cynefin framework for sense-making and Keeney’s value-focussed decision analysis, in a systematic literature review of 160 peer-reviewed papers in English. Findings – Around 60 per cent of the papers on decision-making in SSCM come from operational research (OR), which makes explicit use of DT. These are almost all normative and rationalist and focus

ABSTRACT Major DNA binding proteins, designated Ssh7, were purified from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Sulfolobus shibatae. The Ssh7 proteins have an apparent molecular mass of 6.5 kDa and are similar to the 7-kDa DNA binding proteins from Sulfolobus acidocaldarius and Sulfolobus solfataricus in N-terminal amino acid sequence. The proteins constitute about 4.8% of the cellular protein. Upon binding to DNA, the Ssh7 proteins constrain negative supercoils. At the tested Ssh7/DNA mass ratios (0 to 1.65), one negative supercoil was taken up by approximately 20 Ssh7 molecules. Our results, togethe

There is increasing concern regarding sustainable supply chain management (SSCM). This paper defines SSCM in terms of environmental, economic, and social dimensions, also known as triple bottom line plus risk management. Prior to the SSCM serious game (SG) “Chain of Command (CoC)” there were no board-based SGs that incorporated the three dimensions of SSCM. Prior research has only managed to incorporate one or two dimensions of sustainability. “CoC” serves as a tool to bring about discussion, awareness, raise questions, and even identify a player’s preference towards the three dimensions of su

However, it is not clear whether the overexpression of Sshk is the major mechanism for resistance to dimethachlone. Purpose To contribute to the development of a more complete theory of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM), this study aims to focus on media attention as an under-researched antecedent. Media transmit information about (good or bad) business practices and information recipients often adjust their behavior accordingly. Although media often uncover scandals in supply chains, no systematic understanding explicates how they shape lead firms’ reactions to scandals. This empirical study investigates how media attention to a major supply chain scandal influences buying companies’ SSCM. Design/

In this paper, we present a novel IQA metric based on biologically inspired feature model (BIFM) and structural similarity index (SSIM). The SSIM index map is first generated through the well-known IQA metric SSIM between the reference image and the distorted image. Then, saliency map of the distorted image is extracted via BIF to define the most salient image locations. Finally, according to the saliency map, a f
