Abstract:
With an innovative measurement technique termed “microwave detected photoconductivity” (MDP) it is possible to investigate defects of silicon wafers contact less and topographically by evaluating photoconductivity transients detected via microwave absorption. Thus it is possible to obtain the electrical key parameters (e.g. diffusion length and lifetime) in a contact less, non destructive and topographic way. The method is ideal for the investigation of process induced defects as a function of different processing steps. The inhomogeneities of the diffusion length map of the pure wafer correla

Abstract This book chapter describes the management of animal trypanosomiasis: (i) vector control/eradication; (ii) use of trypanocides; and (iii) use of trypanotolerant breeds of cattle. Vector control includes reducing the tsetse fly population with traps and insecticides, and in areas with a high population of trypanosome infected tsetse, animals are prophylactically administered antiparasitic drugs. To date, there is no AAT vaccine available, as discussed below. While disappointing with respect to AAT control, studies of AAT pathogenesis at ILRAD/ILRI did identify the definitive question for immunological research on AAT, namely, how do trypanosomes eliminate TD antibody responses in trypanosomiasis-susceptible mammals? In addition, the work at ILRI on the genetic basis of trypanotolerance contributed a high-density singlenucleotide polymorphism (SNP) map of the bovine genome that has intrinsic value for analysis of QTLs that control other traits, including susceptibility to other diseases.

Intra-operative neurophysiological monitoring (IOM) has evolved substantially since its beginnings in the 1970s with somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP) and facial nerve electromyography (EMG). The introduction of new techniques (especially motor evoked potentials [MEP]) and refinements of older techniques have become important tools that the surgeon can use to enhance intra-operative decision making and improve patient outcome of surgical (e.g., intracranial, neurovascular, skull base and brainstem, spine and spinal cord, peripheral nerve) procedures. These monitoring modalities are used to map the anatomic location of neural structures and monitor the functional status of the neural tracts. The anaesthetist plays a key supportive role in monitoring and management when IOM indicates potential neural compromise.

Abstract:
Strategic Information Systems Planning (SISP) has been a continuing top concern for IS/IT management, since the mid 1980’s. Responding to the increasing interest in SISP, researchers have developed a large number of SISP methodologies and models. However, when organisations embark on planning for their information systems, they face difficulties and usually fail to gain the expected benefits. Strategic alignment and the identification of the business areas where the IT contribution is strategically important for the organisation are the most difficult problems in SISP. None of the existing SISP methodologies and models offers a complete solution. The approach presented in this chapter, utilises a Fuzzy Cognitive Map in order to align strategic objectives with IS opportunities that exist at the level of business processes. This chapter exemplifies fuzzy cognitive mapping in SISP, and illustrates how the strategic alignment between the business and IT domains can be realised.

Abstract:
Artificial neural network (ANN) models are involved in many applications because of its great computational capabilities. Training of multi-layer perceptron (MLP) is the most challenging problem during the network preparation. Many techniques have been introduced to alleviate this problem. Back-propagation algorithm is a powerful technique to train multilayer feedforward ANN. However, it suffers from the local minima drawback. Recently, meta-heuristic methods have introduced to train MLP like Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Cuckoo Search (CS), Ant Colony Optimizer (ACO), Social Spider Optimization (SSO), Evolutionary Strategy (ES) and Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO). This chapter applied Multi-Verse Optimizer (MVO) for MLP training. Seven datasets are used to show MVO capabilities as a promising trainer for multilayer perceptron. Comparisons with PSO, GA, SSO, ES, ACO and GWO proved that MVO outperforms all these algorithms.
