Abstract:
AbstractPhilips Angel's Lof der schilder-const (In Praise of Painting, 1642) is one of the few pieces of writing we have as a source of notions on the theory of painting in the Netherlands. Yet it was not intended as an art-theoretical treatise: Angel read the text at a St. Luke's feast as part of the activities that were being undertaken to acquire guild rights for Leiden painters. In order to assess the value of the theoretical notions on which the paper is based, it is therefore necessary to analyse as far as possible the circumstances of its writing. First the Angel family is examined. Org

Abstract:
Developmental competence of in vitro-produced porcine embryos appears to be limited by specific maternally inherited cytoplasmic factors. We previously reported a relationship between mitochondria distribution during IVM, energy status, and oocyte developmental ability after parthenogenetic activation. The aim of the present study was to investigate the timing of mitochondria relocation during meiosis and the possible relationship with cytoskeleton organization in high and low competence oocytes. To this purpose, homogeneous groups of oocytes were matured in vitro (IVM) with 25% or 0% porcine

Postmortem recovery of epididymal spermatozoa and their preservation in Biological Resource Banks is a convenient source of germplasm, providing a possible future conservation resource for selected endangered wildlife species. It is necessary to gain knowledge of the biology of the gametes of the different species, in order to define effective protocols for cryopreservation and future assisted reproductive technology application. A pilot study on the changes in blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) and blesbok (Damaliscus dorcas phillipsi) epididymal sperm was carried out in order to provide

During a survey for the cyst nematodes (Heterodera elachista) from May to June of 2011, cyst nematodes were detected in hilly rice fields in five counties (Changsha, Pingjiang, Hengdong, Shaoyang, and Xiangxiang) of Hunan Province, China. Cyst nematodes obtained from soil samples and harvested rice root samples at these five locations had uniform morphological and molecular characteristics. Cysts (n = 20) had the following characteristics: spherical to lemon shaped, vulval cone ambifenestrate, vulval bridge narrow, medium sized underbridge, with a few dark brown bullae, body length (not includ
