This article aims to show the history of the Orthodox church in Zamosc based on the concept of sites of memory developed by Pierre Nora. Zamosc’s church is one of the most important yet enigmatic buildings in the town. It was built for the town’s Greek and Ruthenian communities and for a good number of years was the mainstay of Orthodoxy in the region. At the beginning of the 18th c., it was taken over by the Basilian Order, and in its interiors the statutes of the Synod of Zamosc were signed, which significantly led to the unification of the Latin Church and the Uniate Orthodox Church and the

The article resolves the issue of the architect M. F. Kazakov’s authorship of the drawings of the utensils manufactured for the chapel by St. Petersburg jewelers who worked on the order of Emperor Paul I and the Empress. For example, for several decades, the tabernacle from the chapel had been considered to be made according to a drawing

Like the precarious colonial state demeaningly referred to as “España la Boba,” the Dominican Catholic Church of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries endured the Caribbean ramifications of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic wars. This onslaught included the cession of Santo Domingo to France in 1795, the protracted and bloody revolution in St. Domingue, disruptions in international trade, and invasions by Haiti in 1801 and 1805. The construction of St.-Maclou after 1432 revitalized architecture in Rouen and Normandy for the next 90 years. Both the patrons and the architect played a significant role in the emergence of this new style. The architecture has been attributed to the Parisian master Pierre Robin, but the stylistic evidence based on a unique vocabulary of forms suggests that the St.-Maclou master was trained in the Norman Vexin and had a knowledge of architecture of Germany, Flanders, and central Europe. In 1958, Yves Bonnefoy published his third poetry collection “Pierre écrite” in collaboration with the painter Raoul Ubac. This title refers to a little-known 5th century Roman artefact in the Lower Alps in France. The text carved in stone says: the former Roman consul Dardanus had forged a path in the mountains to the estate he had founded and had called “Theopolis”. The name of the estate suggests that this sanctuary for the early Christians was a kind of St. Augustine’s “project” of the “City of God” (Civitas Dei) realisation. Abstract:
In 1562, Jean Morély published a book that advocated local control over the Reformed churches and challenged the Calvinists’ ideas about religious authority. The Calvinists had established a presbyterian-synodal model, which placed religious authority in the hands of the pastors, consistories, and national synods. Morély argued that such authority should lie instead with the membership of each local church. Morély attracted followers in the Paris and Orléans regions, and other churches around France adopted practices he recommended. Morély was supported initially by Odet and Gaspard de Coligny
