Full textThe aim of the present thesis was the construction and evaluation of an on-line photochemical reactor for photochemical stability tests in an HPLC-system (hn- HPLC). The work was focused on the production of a functional and effective photochemical reactor, the determination of radiation intensities and the optimisation of analytical methods. Furthermore the stability of UV-filters under exposure to UV-radiation was investigated. The main results of these thesis are presented in the following: (1) the determination of radiation intensities in online photochemical reactors, (2) the comparison of spectra with standard-sun spectra (COLIPA), (3) the optimisation of the determination of 4-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and 4-acetamidobenzoic acid (PAABA) with an HPLC-hn method (4) the characterisation of photochemical changes of UV-filters: p-methoxy-cinnamic acid-2-ethyl-hexyl ester, 3-(4'-methyl)benzylidene-bornan-2-on,1-(4-tert.-butylphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)propan-1,3-dion and p-aminobenzoic acid.

Full textThe scope of this work is the analysis of carbon clusters of about 100 - 500 atoms. The experimental studies are at such small clusters heavy. Knowledges about thus clusters are very important, for example in the field of the nucleation of diamond on substrates, or for the carbon nano-technology (fullerene, nanotubes), or for local defects in carbon systems. There were simulated curved interfaces in diamond. Firstly with an empirical potential. Than I developed a method, in wich the defects and the structure around them are treated by a quantum mechanical algorithm and the rest with a near to ideal structure with an empirical potential. So, it is possible an accurate calculation of great systems of about 10 (high)4 atoms on wich only locally quantum mechanical methods are necessary. With this hybrid-code diamond nuclei on silicon substrate were simulated. The stability of the diamond nuclei on the silicon substrate, the critical radius of the nuclei and the changes of the nuclei during his transformation was investigated. Another field of investigations is the molecular dynamics simulation of free carbon clusters. The initial structures had spherical, ellipsoidical or square form and consists of diamond and graphite or a free form in the case of amorphous carbon. It was demonstrated that diamond transforms at higher temperatures and under irradiation in carbon onions. The genesis of the nucleus of a carbon onion with two shells was here for the first time simulated. The existence of the cross-links between the shells of a carbon onion was demonstrated. These existence was expected from the experimentators. The cross-links are the initiators of the transformation of carbon onions to diamond. The center of carbon onions is under self-pressure, because the distance between the outer shells is about 3.34 Å and between the inner shells about 2.2 Å. Full textThe purpose of the present PhD work is the asymptotic stability investigation of numerical methods for index 2 differential algebraic equations. Initial value problems are considered for quasi linear differential algebraic equations (DAEs) that cover the most important applications. First some stability concepts and related results are presented, which represent the basis for further investigations. This background concerns both, the continuous and the discreet case. Especially contractivity concepts are introduced and the relationship between the asymptotic stability of the DAE and the numerical method applied to it is established. The new contractivity concepts extend or generalize the already known concepts. The most important result in this context is a theorem that establishes general conditions under which the application of an algebraic stable IRK(DAE) method to a DAE is contractive. Well-known assertions for ordinary and differential algebraic equations can be considered as special cases of this general result. Later on the stability of numerical discretizations applied to index-2 DAEs is investigated. This is made possible by the introduction of new decopling and index reduction techniques. The analysis makes new insights in the asymptotic of numerical methods for DAEs possible. The obtained results state sufficient conditions in order that a BDF or an IRK(DAE) method applying to DAEs shows the same asymptotic stability properties as for ODEs. These results are illustrated by some numerical examples. Moreover, it can be realized that one of the found conditions is sufficient in order to show contractivity of the application of an algebraic stable IRK(DAE) method, supposed the DAE is contractive. This assertion is possible based on the general theorem mentioned in the paragraph above. Further some consequences of the mentioned results for electric network models are shown. According to both, the above mentioned analysis and the specialized literature of this field, the application of numerical methods to some special DAEs shows asymptotic stability problems. A few approaches are known to manage such difficult equations. Two exponents of these techniques are considered and their chances of success for index-2 DAEs are evaluated with the application to a critical example. A generalization of the Gear-Gupta-Leimkuhler (GGL) approach is proposed for full implicit linear DAEs. This generalization is investigated in detail in the rest of the paper, concerning both the analytical and the numerical asymptotic stability of the GGL equation and the numerical methods applied to it correspondingly. The result is, that, if some conditions are fulfilled, IRK(DAE) and BDF methods for the GGL equation will produce stable solutions. This result is illustrated by a numerical example. The application of the methods directly to the considered DAE produces unstable solutions. However, the integration of the corresponding GGL formulation is stable. The obtained result opens new possibility for the numerical treatment of instabilities by differential algebraic equations.

Full textGeotechnical events (terrain deformation due to soil liquefaction) in lignite mining waste rock piles of the northern Lausitz area (opencast pits Schlabendorf and Seese), have been modeled as time series for the years 2009 – 2013 by using artificial neural networks. The model has clearly recognized the influences of various lithological and non-lithological controlled parameters on the occurrence of geotechnical events, and these have been quantified and weighted in terms of their importance. The model is able to predict the tem-poral evolution and the exact spatial location of the events occurring in the dumps as a function of changing groundwater levels and surface morphology. The model shows dynamically the emergence of new risk areas in hitherto seemingly stable areas. The correctness of the model was confirmed by means of various tests and its predictive success was demonstrated through forecasting of events for the years 2014 and 2015 and their comparison with the observed events of those years. The following main risk factors were identified: Important destabilizing factors are a monotonous lithology with the following composition: 31% fine sand, 34% medium sand, 31% coarse sand, 3% silt, <1% gravel, <1% lime, <1% clay, <1% coal, kf-values between 10-4 and 10-4.5 m/s, a surface to groundwater distance of 3.45 meters (median value), high gradients of non-lithological controlled parameters: waste dump surface, groundwater level, depth to groundwater and thickness of saturated dump. 2. Important stabilizing factors are a high heterogeneity of lithology (high gradients of the lithological controlled parameters: e.g. gravel content, sand content, clay content, carbon content), a low proportion of sand in the dump composition, high proportions of gravel, silt, clay, lime, or coal, a high depth to groundwater, low gradients of non-lithological controlled parameters: open pit surface, groundwater surface, depth to groundwater, thickness of saturated dump, strongly changing kf values between 10-7 and 10-2 m/s. The model can be used as a dynamic tool for risk management before and during the re-habilitation of lignite waste dumps, and for constructing stable waste dumps. By means of varying the model parameters (e.g. design of the dump surface, composition of dumped rocks, rising groundwater) the geotechnical effects of dump design and remediation scenarios can be predicted
