Abstract:
A longitudinal one-wheel vehicle model is described for both anti-lock braking and anti-span acceleration. Based on this vehicle model, sufficient conditions for applying sliding-mode control to vehicle traction are derived via Lyapunov Stability Theory. With the understanding of these sufficient conditions, control laws are designed to control vehicle traction. Both the sufficient conditions and the control laws are verified using computer simulations.

The design of variable structure system inputs which are constrained by saturation is studied. For a LTI system which satisfies some conditions, it is shown that appropriate bounded controllers guarantee the system’s global stability and maximize the sliding mode domain on the switching surfaces. Stability conditions of variable structure systems with constrained inputs are relaxed, and the stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed by using passivity theory of linear passive systems. Moreover, nonlinear sliding surfaces are discussed for variable structure controller design, and a nove

Research on the stability to determine the critical value of structures is a complex issue but of real significance. Piezoelectric composite plate is one of the structures which have the ability to control the mechanical behaviors under loads. One of the prominent capabilities of this structure is the ability to control its vibration and stability. Using the finite element method (FEM) and construction calculation program in Matlab, the authors analyzed the elastic stability of piezoelectric composite plates under dynamic in-plane loads, taking into account damping properties of the structure.

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New Orleans District (MVN), tasked the US Army Engineer and Research Development Center (ERDC) with assessing the condition of a grouted scour hole located at the southeast wall of the Old River Low Sill Structure (ORLSS) at the Old River Control Complex (ORCC) using noninvasive techniques, such as geophysical surveys and physical models. This special report (SR) combines a scientific literature synthesis of previous research with further geologic interpretation as a first step in the overall task assigned by MVN. The results discussed in this SR will be

Abstract:
The US Army Corps of Engineers Regional Sediment Management (RSM) program funded research to assess the longevity and effectiveness of cedar tree revetments for sediment reduction. Between 1988 and 1997, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) constructed multiple cedar tree revetments, plantings, and a grade-control structure at an experimental stream management area on Locust Creek within the Locust Creek Conservation Area (LCCA). For the first few years, MDC also replaced missing trees as needed. MDC monitored these sites with photographs and cross sections until 2004. This study eval

Geophysical surveys, both land-based and water-borne, were conducted at the Old River Control Complex‒Low Sill, Concordia Parish, LA. The purpose of the surveys was to assess the condition of the grout within the scour region resulting from the 1973 flood event, including identification of potential voids within the grout. Information from the ground studies will also be used for calibration of subsequent marine geophysical data and used in stability analysis studies. The water-borne survey consisted of towed low frequency (16-80 MHz) ground penetrating radar (GPR), whereas the land-based surv

Abstract:
The modern understanding of the state as a complex social system allows us to assert that its resilience is based on ensuring systemic homeostasis as a stabilizing dynamic mechanism for resolving contradictions arising in society associated with the threat of losing control over the processes of public administration and legal regulation. Public administration is a kind of social management that ensures the organization of social relations and processes, giving the social system the proper coordination of actions, the necessary orderliness, sustainability and stability. In 2009, the Northern Colorado Plateau Network began long-term monitoring of pinyon-juniper woodlands, high-elevation sagebrush, and low-elevation sagebrush shrublands in Dinosaur National Monument. Sagebrush communities have been impacted by fire and grazing in the past, and some areas have converted to an alternative grassland state, which can be dominated by native or exotic species. Pinyon-juniper woodlands are varied in structure but comprise the majority of plant communities throughout the monument. The primary goals of this monitoring are to track the status of these ecosystems and dete
