Abstract Isolated lateral malleolar supination-external rotation (SER) -type ankle fractures without incongruity on the standard radiographs can be either stable or unstable depending on the status of the deep deltoid ligament. Neither clinical signs of injury on the medial aspect of the ankle nor the displacement of fibular fracture on mortise radiographs seem to predict stability. Therefore, stress testing has been adopted in clinical use. No “gold standard” method exists but the manual external rotation (ER) stress test is the most extensively studied. Maintaining compression at the site of fracture can benefit healing by maintaining bone congruency and increasing the stability of the bone-implant construct to prevent excessive shifting. Abstract:
The Estimation of Thevenin Equivalent Parameters is useful for System Monitoring and Protection. We studied a method for estimating the Thevenin equivalent circuits. We then studied two applications including voltage stability and fault location. A study of the concepts of Voltage Stability is done in the initial part of this thesis. A Six Bus Power System Model was simulated using MATLAB SIMULINK®. Subsequently, the Thevenin Parameters were calculated. The results were then used for two purposes, to calculate the Maximum Power that can be delivered and for Fault Location.

Reynolds, Nicholas A. "Behavior and design of concentrically loaded duplex stainless steel single equal-leg angle struts." Diss., Georgia Institute of Technology, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/49074.

Abstract:
Stainless steel has garnered attention as an alternative structural material to conventional carbon steel due to its corrosion resistance properties and aesthetic appearance. Of interest are single angles, which are frequently used in trusses, transmission towers, and as bracing diaphragms. When subjected to compression, knowledge concerning the behavior, analysis, and design of stainless steel single angles is very limited. This thesis addresses the behavior of duplex stainless steel single equal-leg angles subject to concentric compressive loading. Two complementary approaches are used

Abstract:
The spatial stability of hypersonic conical boundary layers is investigated utilizing different numerical techniques. First, the development and verification of a Linearized Compressible Navier-Stokes solver (LinCS) is presented, followed by an investigation of different effects that affect the stability of the flow in free-flight/ground tests, such as: high-enthalpy effects, wall-temperature ratio, and three-dimensionality (i.e. angle-of-attack). A temporally/spatially high-order of accuracy parallelized Linearized Compressible Navier-Stokes solver in disturbance formulation was developed, v

Abstract:
With the increase in the level of global warming, renewable energy based distributed generators (DGs) will increasingly play a dominant role in electricity production. Distributed generation based on solar energy (photovoltaic and solar thermal), wind, biomass, mini-hydro along with use of fuel cells and micro turbines will gain considerable momentum in the near future. A microgrid consists of clusters of load and distributed generators that operate as a single controllable system. The interconnection of the DG to the utility/grid through power electronic converters has raised concern about sa

De, Oliveira Neto Pedro Jose. "An Investigation of Unsteady Aerodynamic Multi-axis State-Space Formulations as a Tool for Wing Rock Representation." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/29600.

Abstract:
The objective of the present research is to investigate unsteady aerodynamic models with state equation representations that are valid up to the high angle of attack regime with the purpose of evaluating them as computationally affordable models that can be used in conjunction with the equations of motion to simulate wing rock. The unsteady aerodynamic models with state equation representations investigated are functional approaches to modeling aerodynamic phenomena, not directly derived from the physical principles of the problem. They are thought to have advantages with respect to the physic
