Maize (Zea mays L.) is the third most important cereal crops in the world after wheat and rice. In Ethiopia, maize remains the second largest food security crop after tef [Eragrostis tef (Zucc.) Trotter.]. The mid-altitude, sub-humid agro-ecology (1000 to 1800 m above sea level) is the most important maize producing environment in Ethiopia.
