This paper compares the risk taking behaviour of banks in two groups of early and late transition countries during two periods: the pre-crisis (2000-2006) and the financially turbulent (2007-2012). Using data for 254 banks for the period 2000-2012 we find that during the stable period (2000-2006) the banks with higher concentration and higher technical efficiency take more risks in the late transition countries, while this is ambiguous for the turbulent period (2007-2012). In this paper we reconsider, in a purely topological framework, the concept of bend-twist map previously studied in the analytic setting by Tongren Ding in (2007). We obtain some results about the existence and multiplicity of fixed points which are related to the classical Poincaré-Birkhoff twist theorem for area-preserving maps of the annulus; however, in our approach, like in Ding (2007), we do not require measure-preserving conditions. In order to be effective, sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing should be comprehensive based on the clients' sexuality and risk practices. Using data from the Sydney Gay Community Periodic Survey, we explored trends in and factors associated with STI testing among gay men during 2003–2007. Among men who were not HIV-positive, 68% were tested for HIV in 2007. HIV testing was more common than STI testing and remained stable during 2003–2007. We analyse the change trends of the annual and seasonal runoff series of the hydrological station Batang on the headstream of the Yangtze River over the period 1960–2007. The relations between runoff series and precipitation and temperature conditions are investigated, and the influence of the refreezing process of meltwater of the glaciers on the Yangtze River flow is examined with the proposed accumulated temperature deficit (ATD) index.
