Mitra, John Paul. "Optimizing Construction Estimation: A Case Study of the ETSU Football Stadium and the ETSU Fine Arts Center." Digital Commons @ East Tennessee State University, 2018. https://dc.etsu.edu/honors/445.

Abstract:
Considering the complexity of the construction industry, it is vital to predict costs accurately throughout the entire planning, design, and construction process of a project. Various factors such as overhead, delays, cost variation, and program and scope play significant roles in determining the viability and profitability of a project. Thus, it is important to learn about what makes construction estimates so variable even among expert estimators within the same company. This study will look at the estimation methods used by BurWil Construction Company and Denark Construction, Inc. for the ETSU Football Stadium and the ETSU Fine Arts Center, respectively, as case studies for both post- and in-development construction projects. The estimates used in different phases of the projects will be compared against the most current cost of the project; the final cost for the Football Stadium and the most up-to-date costs for the Fine Arts Center. Also, the different phases of design and construction and their corresponding estimates will be inspected thoroughly. As an ending discussion of the study, optimization efforts will be considered to assess how current planning and estimation methods can be improved to reduce cost and time for all parties involved in the project.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis looks into the area for sport and recreation in Brno-Komárov. The main part is the project of new arena for track cycling for Favorit Brno. Part of the assignment is also the solution for urban plan and redevelopment of the large area in the south of Brno in city district Brno-Komárov. Urban plan design is framed as conversion of the whole space into sport activities area for broad public. The velodrome itself is based on the idea of a bicycle and its parts as architecturally interesting part of the building, in this case particularly lacing of a wheel. Stadium could become new landmark for its surroundings and draw attention of the general public.

Abstract:
Cost overrun is prevalent in the construction industry. Usually, an owner sets a budget at the preliminary phase of a project which changes over time. Past studies are focused on analyzing the cost growth of design-bid-build projects during construction. Limited efforts have been made to analyze details of projects delivered with the Construction Manager General Contractor (CM/GC) method. This study tracks and analyzes the construction cost variation of a project from the conceptual phase to the design completion phase. The analysis is presented with a case study of a new stadium construction project. It identifies that the changes in the scope and design of the project due to the change in available budget were a major reason for variation in the cost estimates over time. Further, this study identifies a) trades with the highest variation in subcontractors’ bids, b) trades that were most overestimated, and c) trades that were most underestimated. The findings of this study is expected to aid owners, designers, and contractors of future projects in improving the preparation, planning, and estimating of future projects; reducing cost variation within trades; and optimizing the amount of contingency required to ensure the successful completion of similar projects.

Abstract:
This study is an examination of the stadium fever prevailing in Sweden. It is built stadiums in Sweden as never before. The high cost of these constructions end up in the end at the Swedish taxpayers. The study examines through the hedonic pricing of real estate how local residents value the new stadiums. The result indicates that local residents put a positive value in the costly and sumptuous buildings. The study includes 44 stadium constructions in 37 municipalities and is the first of its kind in Sweden.

Stadiums have carried through time, from ancient to modem, a common identity in the design concept, reflected through similarities in shape, structural elements, materials and methods of construction. The earliest design models appeared with the Greeks starting the eighth century B.C. and were improved by the Romans during the first four centuries A.D. The Colosseum, Roman's most acclaimed amphitheater is regarded as the mother of all modem stadiums, setting the rule for innovative design and construction. It generated the first stadium designs of the modem era and guided the evolution of their successors to the level of beauty and sophistication they actually reflect. This thesis presents the Colosseum as a case study for the identification and analysis of the major aspects of ancient stadiums design and construction methods following the model of Roman Engineering. Moving on towards the last two centuries, the Colosseum will be a guide to trace the evolution in the structural types of stadiums urged by the emergence of new construction materials and techniques in the flow of technological development.

Abstract:
Today's society has received a degenerate development embodying much that just a few years ago was no more than fantasies. This development sets us, structural engineers, facing real challenges. The global population growth increases significantly leading to densely populated cities. This develops a large space need for many of us. All this results in the increasing demand for large and open floor plans significantly. One of the current trends is that the clients and architects have a tendency to push the limits on maximum spans between bearing concrete walls, slabs for thickness 250 mm. This is a satisfactory measure of the concrete content to manage audio class B. Moreover, it is impractical to vary the slab thickness within a project, so he wants to have uniformity with the same thickness over the project. For us to be able to realize these long spans between bearing walls, we have been forced to undergo a long calculation and examination process. To begin with, we have studied the company's requirements and preferences, based on that, we started joists analysis. In our calculations, we have laid emphasis on two cases. The first circulation fall "free - clamped" and the second, "clamped- outer end wall." The first case has been the worst case, in that we only have one support that must bear the entire concrete slab, which has been a major challenge. Second case was considerably easier due to the two supports which made a large part of "work" and lifts the slab, the full weight rested not on the reinforcement as in the previous case. Not just the span must be met, but also given crack width of 0.3 mm. The thesis consists of explanatory facts that are strictly related to the subsequent calculations. All calculations have been performed by hand, without program support.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis is about designing the structure of roof of swimming stadium. Three solutions are created - concrete arc with tie, steel truss slab and concrete pretensioned membrane. One choosed solution - concrete pretensioned membrane - is afterwards developed. In the beginning there are several designs of geometry fulfilling the requirements for given type of structure being created. In part of static calculation, the parametrical mathematical model in form of macro in APDL language for Ansys software has been created. Afterwards all the parameters (initial state of cables, level of pretension, dimensions of membrane and peripheral frame, etc.) has been optimized in order to the membrane be fulfilling criterias for ultimate limit state and serviceability limit state. Afterwards other selected parts of structure has been checked. On basis of designed geometry and design checks in static calculation the drawings of conctruction and designed parts has been created. In the end, the 3D model of the structure has been created in graphical software Rhinoceros. Then visualizations of structure in concstruction stages and after completion has been rendered.

Abstract:
This study examined public relations in the context of sports to better understand the relationship management methods used during an issue to provide conclusions for how public relations can be applied to develop, improve, and maintain relationships between a team and its community, particularly during an issue.Using a content analysis, this study reviewed relationship management literature and applied strategies of relationship management to stages of Turner's (1974) social drama. The content analysis of 454 news articles revealed that although relationship management strategies were identifiable, they were not significantly utilized by franchises and supporters. The lack of relationship management techniques could be used to explain why the franchise-community relationship was unstable throughout the social drama and why the social dramas lasted longer than the sports franchises anticipated. It also supports public relations researchers who argue for the use of public relations management techniques during conflict in order to build and maintain relationships between an organization and their publics.

Abstract:
Within the design of any building, there is a requirement for designers to understand the intended purposes of the building and the elements that influence performance. These elements can be as tangible as providing a lecture hall within a university or relatively intangible such as the environmental temperatures of the rooms. The elements involved are generally recognised within the design industry and a combined force of engineers, architects, and specialist advisors work together to ensure all of the elements are in place for each new design. However, one element affecting performance that has not yet been comprehensively covered (at least for many building types) is that relating to occupant movement and the influence this has on experience and hence performance. For example, the number of times people have to negotiate cross-flow environments in a train station before becoming agitated is unknown. Also, the average distance people will walk through a shopping centre before becoming tired and ending the activity is unknown. Even so, they will both be impacted upon by the design and they will both reflect back on the performance of the design. Before starting this research, it was realised by the research engineer that there was only a limited understanding and application of people flow analyses within industry and, where it existed, it was solely related to transport terminals, pedestrian walkways/crossings, sports stadia arrivals/egress, and evacuation analyses.

Abstract:

In view of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the study examines the need of the touring national soccer teams to have access to training grounds and base camps for their duration of stay in South Africa. Host stadiums will be used exclusively for match day events and training venues will have to be found elsewhere. In this study a proposal is set forth to modernise the Caledonian football grounds into a contemporary, world-class football stadium in preparation for the World Cup. The proposal is for a development according to the 'legacy' system, whereby the facility targets the requirements of the local Arcadia Shepherds Football club, but maintains the potential to be leased as a training ground by partaking teams in the 2010 event, to recuperate the finances required for constructing such a building.

The Ideology of Stadium Construction seeks to define the application of community power in the process of building sports stadiums. Using data culled from a literature review, this project examines the recent construction of sports venues and the political, economic, and social ideas driving their proliferation. A three dimensional approach to applied power provides a theoretical tool to illustrate and analyze the blueprint of stadium construction. Taking a more broad view of the culture of business in the United States suggests the public funding of stadium construction arching towards Antonio Gramsci’s sense of hegemony. Beyond attempting to merely define the political process driving stadium construction as a significant social problem, this project introduces potential alternatives to the organizational method currently in place.

Abstract:
The present study, as the main focus, studies the importance, impact and urban insertion of stadiums in contemporary cities. This aspect is based on the chronological evolution of sport equipment in 3 different phases, namely from the amphitheatre in the Roman Empire, the passage from the 18th-20th century and finally in the 90s, with the construction and remodelling of various stadiums.Between us, sport and physical culture are activities that play an extremely important role in the social order (não sei que é “ordanamento social), in that, being closely linked to the guarantee of quality of life for individuals, they are configured in the constitution of the Portuguese Republic as a fundamental right of citizens. In this sense, for the realization of this right, the State, in collaboration with other entities with powers and competences in these fields, is required to perform a set of public tasks related to it. With this dissertation, we will try to make the role of football stadiums known to the reader, as sports equipment for collective use, the position assumed in a city in constant redesign and as an element of urban regeneration, as well as making all stages since the implementation of this type of infrastructure known. To this extent, we will being the mythical case of the Cidade Coimbra Stadium to the spotlight, remodeled for Euro 2004, which, therefore, reached our administrative levels. Finally, we will seek to briefly elucidate the way in which, in addition to their design, implementation and construction, the same, and the respective modality, are managed by those who will be part of them. As a final conclusion, starting from Euro 2004 as a peak season in Portuguese football, we will analyse five out of the ten stadiums built for this purpose, for a brief survey of issues, from the urban point of view and the aesthetics of the cities, raised during the construction each one of them.

According to statistics of the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2017, there are more than one million people having disability cards in Taiwan, and thirty percent of them physically disabled. So we should care about their leisure needs. Scholars have mentioned that physical disabilities who use common leisure stadiums may feel them inconvenient and dangerous. So, Designing safe and convenient dynamic leisure stadiums for them is necessary, because there is no law or academic theory that can tell us what to do. Therefore, to find the construction and promotion criteria of it is the business quesion of this thesis. Fuzzy Analytic Network Process (FANP) is an effective method in construction criterion, so we use it by literature review, organizing past researches, following expert advice, and through collecting experts questionnaire issued. We get construction and promotion criteria. Using Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) on user verification questionnaire, we know that both of them think hardware construction is more important than software services and promotion. The details of these can help us to know the construction and promotion criteria of dynamic leisure for the physical disabilities, and understand how to improve current leisure stadiums. These are the main contributions of this study.
