Abstract:
Gegen Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts erlebte Eisenach eine positive wirtschaftliche, politische und musikalische Entwicklung. Der aktivste Träger des musikalischen Lebens war der Schülerchor des Gymnasiums, durch den Bach mit vielen Standardwerken der geistlichen Vokalmusik bekannt wurde. Die Stadtpfeifer verstanden sich zunehmend als den Hofmusikern gleichrangig. Unter der Leitung von Daniel Eberlin erlebte die Hofmusik ihre erste Blütezeit. Abstract:
Der Text tritt einigen nach Meinung des Autors fehlerhaften Interpretationen von Originaldokumenten zur Bach‘schen Aufführungspraxis, besonders zu Umfang und Besetzung seiner Chöre, entgegen. Im Folgenden wird detailliert auf eine Auswahl solcher Dokumente (Schul- und Gottesdienstordnungen, Choraufstellungen) und jeweiligen Interpretationen eingegangen, die auf ihre Aussagekraft geprüft werden. Ergebnis der Auswertung ist die Behauptung, Thesen zur Chorgröße in Bachs Aufführungen, die einseitig auf Grundlage dieser Texte gestellt würden, seien bar jeder tragfähigen Begründung.
