Abstract:
The process of integration and globalization is closely related to the need for harmonization of accounting at international level. In this connection International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) have been developed, which are primarily designed for companies whose securities are traded on regulated markets of the European Union. However, as the importance of small and medium-sized entities has been recently on the increase, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) also issued after five years of effort in July 2009 the International Financial Reporting Standard for Small and Medium-sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs). At present, there is no legislation for the application of this standard in the Czech Republic or any other state of the European Union. Each jurisdiction must determine whether to adopt IFRS for SMEs, to what extent and for which entities the standard is mandatory and for which it is not. Already in previous years the European Commission analyzed data from surveys on this new standard and discussed its advantages and disadvantages. To date, however, it has not taken a single decision on whether to adopt and incorporate the standard into the European accounting legislation. The question also remains what attitude towards IFRS for SMEs companies operating in the Czech Republic will take. That is why this paper analyzes the opinions of some Czech companies belonging to the group of SMEs on the potential adoption of this standard.

Abstract:
This work deals with the influence of selected heavy metals, copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc and cadmium on respiratory activity of microorganisms during the composting process. We focused on comparing the respiratory activity of microorganisms in the compost after composting process in the presence of different concentrations of above mentioned metals and the measured results were confronted with the valid Czech standard for industrial composts. The results show that the high inhibitory effect at low concentrations, about 1 mg/dm3, has cobalt, for which the limit concentration is no set by Czech standard. Other heavy metals exhibit an inhibitory effect at concentrations higher than maximum allowable concentration, which is set in Czech standard for compost class I and II, with regard to their application to agricultural land.

Abstract:
The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is one of the most common screening instruments for mild cognitive impairment. However, the standard MoCA is approximately two times longer to administer than the Mini-Mental State Examination. A total of 699 Czech and 175 American participants received the standard MoCA Czech and English versions and in the clinical part, a sample of 102 nondemented patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). We created a validated Czech short version (s-MoCA-CZ) from the original using item response theory. As expected, s-MoCA-CZ scores were highly correlated with the standard version (Pearson r = .94, p < .001). s-MoCA-CZ also had 80% classification accuracy in the differentiation of PD mild cognitive impairment from PD without impairment. The s-MoCA-CZ, a brief screening tool, is shorter to administer than the standard MoCA. It provides high-classification accuracy for PD mild cognitive impairment and is equivalent to that of the standard MoCA-CZ.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on regional differences between the regions of the Czech Republic. We will focus on observation of inequalities between indicators of living in different regions of the Czech Republic. The indicators are evaluated at NUTS 3 (regions), using multivariate statistical techniques - factor analysis and cluster analysis. We have identified the twelve indicators of living standards. Base data was reduced using factor analysis on the three emerging factors: 1) basic characteristics, 2) risk groups, 3) environmental variable. Cluster analysis was compiled groups of regions with similar characteristics. Cluster analysis of the breakdown of the county into three clusters based on selected indicators of living standards. They can be described as a group with higher average and lower standard of living. In the first cluster are only two regions (Liberec Region and Karlovy Vary), the third cluster is composed of Prague and the second cluster includes all other regions of the Czech Republic. To verify the evidence of differences between clusters were calculated by multivariate analysis of variance for the various indicators of living standards. An analysis of variance indicates that significant differences between clusters are caused by the standard of living indicators: GDP (regional), the average wage of women, medical equipment, culture entertainment and recreation, higher education, the disabled handicapped and older people. The data were processed in the program STATISTICA 10th.

Abstract:
Nowadays, exchange programs are becoming increasingly popular among students all over the world. Thanks to high-quality education, the United States are much desired destination, the Czech Republic attracts Americans with its great location in the heart of Europe and rich history. Cultural values in American society are however in many respects way different from the ones we share in Czech environment. Therefore cultural shock can appear when a student decides to move to another country in order to study there. Understanding cultural differences is essential for successful interaction with local individuals. The main topic of this thesis is the concept of cultural standards defined by Alexander Thomas, applied on university study environment in the Czech Republic and the USA. The aim was to identify Czech-American cultural standards in the study environment from the perspective of Czech university students who studied in the US at least for one semester and US-Czech cultural standards from the perspective of students from the USA. Identified standards were then compared with theoretical conclusions from research of cultural dimensions done by Fons Trompenaars and Geert Hofstede. At the end, recommendations are written for students of both nationalities, which should help them to integrate into foreign environment and eliminate potential culture shock.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis is focused on Czech-Scottish cultural standards at work environment. The main aim is to define Scottish cultural standards at work environment from the Czech point of view and to compare them with the theory. The thesis begins with the definition of culture, cultural dimensions introduced by G. Hofstede, F. Trompenaars and E. T. Hall and cultural standards by A. Thomas. It continues to the description of Scotland with its geography, history, language, economic situation and various systems in the society, such as the legal system, educational system, health care system, a role of the family and religion. Further, Scottish national identity, key values and traditions are identified and there are added some information about work in Scotland. The thesis then leads us onwards to the determination of eight cultural standards at work environment and six cultural standards connected with the daily life in Scotland based on the qualitative research. The standards concerning work environment are further compared with the theory. At the end of the thesis, there are provided some recommendations for Czechs who are going to work with Scots.

This work focuses mainly to the cultural differences between the Czechs and the French in the school and working environment. The goal is to identify the French cultural standards from the perspective of Czech university students in France and the Czechs, who work in France or are working in contact with French, for example, in the Czech Republic. The author uses the method of critical incidents by conducting interviews. The author tests four hypotheses: verifies if there are cultural differences between the Czechs and the French and if these differences manifest during the contact in the workplace and at school and whether the Czech and French have different perception of authority in the workplace and at school. In the end, the work proposes recommendations for Czechs to facilitate cooperation with the French at school and at work.

Abstract:
The presented contribution analyses – in the context of Jan Zouhar’s research scope and also on the background of the professional interests of the immortalized František Kautman (1927–2016) – the ‘philosophy’ of T. G. Masaryk’s (1850–1937) work. At the beginning, there are new publications on his alleged origin from the family of the Austro-Hungarian monarch, further their fictionalization, the investigation of his late sexual life and, last but not least, the flow of his juvenile correspondence with Zdenka Šemberová (1841–1912). For her, this communication was full of erotic and intellectual hopes which were not fulfilled and led to her lifelong loneliness and resignation, especially after the death of her father Alois Vojtěch Šembera (1807–1882), professor of Vienna Slavonic studies, one of the first opponents of the medieval authenticity of the legendary Czech Manuscripts, all of this on the background of the life of the university and Czech Vienna, where they both lived, and the adjacent Moravia. Masaryk, with his weak knowledge of standard Czech, Šemberová, at that time already a mature lady, record in their correspondence the course of their lives, their opinions, readings, and document their intellectual maturing. Their correspondence represents evidence of the lives of both: Masaryk was gradually becoming a scholar and mainly a politician, and understood their correspondence, from which Zdenka expected also an amorous fulfilment, as a mere practical exercise in stylistics and a confrontation of opinions. Their correspondence throws a new, not always favourable light on the youth of the future Czechoslovak president. Already there, the elementary features of his personality were taking their shapes.

Abstract:
AbstractIn operational weather forecasting standard environmental parameters, such as air temperature and humidity, are traditionally used to predict thermal conditions in the future. These parameters, however, are not enough to describe the thermal stress induced by the outdoor environment to the human body as they neglect the human heat budget and personal characteristics (e.g. clothing). The Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) overcomes these limitations by using an advanced thermo-physiological model coupled with a state-of-the-art clothing model. Several systems have been recently developed to operationally forecast human biometeorological conditions via the UTCI, i.e. by computing UTCI from the forecasts of air temperature, humidity, wind speed and radiation as provided by numerical weather prediction models. Here we describe the UTCI-based forecasting systems developed in Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Portugal and at the pan-European scale. Their characteristics are illustrated and their potential as warning systems for thermal hazards discussed.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter aims to explore and analyse the tangled interplay of political discourses, policies and legislations in the field of asylum and migration that runs across the countries under scrutiny (the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and the UK, hereinafter SIRIUS countries). Building on empirical evidence, we highlight some main trends registered across SIRIUS countries: the narrowing and slowing down of access to international protection that results from the recourse to push-back operations and the construction of fences, but also procedures provided by the EU asylum acquis, such as the accelerated procedure. This restraining tendency is even more acute in the field of economic-related migration, where in most of the SIRIUS countries legal entry channels are mostly reserved for those who are considered eligible due to their economic resources or talent, such as high-skilled workers, investors or rich entrepreneurs. These restrictive measures often rely on narratives that question the sincerity of the asylum claim, and criminalise migration and humanitarian assistance. Meanwhile, legislative landscapes on migration and asylum are increasingly populated by symbolic laws, which downgrade foreigners’ rights and weaken standards. Their explicit aim is to dissuade migrants from coming to the country, while catering for natives’ fears and responding to domestic electoral consensus-building.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this chapter, the attention is paid to two fields which are linked with family lifestyle. The first one concerns socioeconomic situations in a family and shows that the economic side of family functioning is actually very essential these days. The importance of family economic situation is affirmed also in the results of our international survey. We asked what was the main family income, experience with unemployment and whether our respondents had possibility to save some money. Furthermore, we were interested in expenditure items and in evaluation of an overall standard of living by respondents. The Germans and then Czechs evaluated it as the best, the worst was found in families in Latvia. The second part monitors life satisfaction as a subjective feeling of well-being and is understood as a part of quality of life. To the question “How do you imagine a satisfied family?”, the most frequent response was—harmonic coexistence without conflicts, well-being, good health of all family members and material security. For the question “What do you lack to your satisfaction?” respondents stated—financial security and lack of free time for the family. However, there were specific differences among individual surveyed countries.

Czechoslovak specialists participated in creation of the Interatomenergo standards for design of WWER type nuclear power plant components from 1980 to 1989. The Interatomenergo standards had not been accepted as official standards in the Czech Republic. Temelin power plant was built in the ninetieth years of last century, but any public requirement followed the existing creation of the national nuclear standards of that time. The Standard Technical Documentation (STD) was asked for assessment of strength and lifetime analyses of components manufactured for the Temelin nuclear power plant. The Association of Mechanical Engineers (A.M.E) issued six Sections and one Section of Special Cases of the Standard Technical Documentation. Revisions of these Sections are made every three years with last revision being published in 2007.

Abstract:
Since 2003 CEZ is preparing and implementing new Plant Life Management (PLIM) Programme. It includes also detailed Ageing Management Review of all already implemented Ageing Management Programmes. It was necessary to develop and approve the Plant Life Management Conception in connection with an implementation of Plant Life Management Programme in CEZ power plants. This Conception became a basis for formation of the “CEZ Plant Life Management Standard” which provides basic fundamentals and goals during PLIM implementation in power plants. This article describes main ideas of these documents, work done in past years and plans for following years.
