The aim of this article is to explore how the new patent policy has impacted different aspects of standards development within IEEE. Our analysis focuses on the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (IEEE 802 LMSC), whose Working Groups have bee

The standards of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system and the cause of islanding in formation are introduced at first, and then common passive and active detecting islanding methods are discussed in this paper. Considering the shortcomings of traditional methods, such as failing to detect islanding, larger non-detection zone and poor quality of output power of the inverter, etc., a novel detecting method which is called as positive power feedback disturbance is proposed, so as to overcome these problems. The proposed method has the characteristics of no non-detection zone, little influence

This paper shows a digital noise generator designed in FPGA, based on a variant of the one-dimensional (1D) chaotic tent map (T-1D). The T-1D map is a piecewise linear 1D chaotic map that defines the statistical behavior of the generated sequences using its control parameter. In this way, the proposed noise generator is a highly competitive alternative in cryptographic systems when the statistical behavior of the sequences is closer to the uniform statistical distribution. The proposed system uses the inverted tent chaotic map (IT-1D), which has the same statistical behavior as the T-1D map. T

Coherent optical fiber communications for data rates of 100Gbit/s and beyond have recently been studied extensively primarily because high sensitivity of coherent receivers could extend the transmission distance. Spectrally efficient modulation techniques such as M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) can be employed for coherent optical links. The integration of multi-level modulation formats based on coherent technologies with wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) systems is key to meet the aggregate bandwidth demand. This paper presents a design exploration, at both system and circuit levels, of integrated transceivers for the upcoming fifth generation (5G) of wireless communications. First, a system level model for 5G communications is carried out to derive transceiver design specifications. Being 5G still in pre-standardization phase, a few currently used standards (ECMA-387, IEEE 802.15.3c, and LTE-A) are taken into account as the reference for the signal format. Abstract:
Introduction This article is a study in anxiety with regard to social online spaces (SOS) conceived of as dark. There are two possible ways to define ‘dark’ in this context. The first is that communication is dark because it either has limited distribution, is not open to all users (closed groups are a case example) or hidden. The second definition, linked as a result of the first, is the way that communication via these means is interpreted and understood. Dark social spaces disrupt the accepted top-down flow by the ‘gazing elite’ (data aggregators including social media), but anxious users m
