Abstract:
ABSTRACT: Several pathogens and antibodies derived from serum or produced in tissues associated with the oral cavity are present in the oral fluid (OF). Considering the applicability of this alternative sample, recent studies in veterinary medicine have tested OF as a replacement for serum in diagnostic assays. The aim of this study was to standardize the immunoperoxidase monolayer assay (IPMA) to detect anti-Lawsonia intracellularis immunoglobulin A (IgA) and immunoglobulin G (IgG) in OF samples from experimentally infected pigs. Sixty-two pigs were divided into two groups: control (T1, n=30) and inoculated with L. intracellularis (T2, n=32). Blood, OF and fecal samples were collected at 0, 7, 14, 21, 28 and 42 days post-inoculation (dpi). Some adaptations of the standard technique for serum were made to IPMA for the detection of IgA and IgG in OF. The IPMA showed high specificity and sensitivity for serum samples and high specificity and moderate sensitivity for the detection of IgA and IgG in OF. There was high agreement between the results of serum IgG and OF IgA and IgG. Based on our results, oral fluid samples may be used for the evaluation and determination of anti-L. intracellularis antibodies in pigs, but not for individual diagnosis of swine proliferative enteropathy.

Abstract:
Using social exchange theory and equity theory, this paper examined the relationship between the four dimensions of pay satisfaction and organisational trust among Malaysian employees. The four dimensions of pay satisfaction are pay benefit satisfaction, pay level satisfaction, pay raise satisfaction, and pay structure and administration satisfaction. Questionnaires were distributed to Malaysians working in several industries. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to assess both the measurement and structural model. Results from the structural model revealed that pay benefit satisfaction, pay raise satisfaction, and pay structure and administration satisfaction were positively related to organisational trust. To complement the standard structural model assessment, robustness checks were performed on the structural model in terms of non-linear effects, endogeneity, and unobserved heterogeneity. The checks concluded that there were no issues with regards to nonlinear effects and unobserved heterogeneity. However, the endogeneity test indicated that pay structure and administration satisfaction could be endogenous. Importance-performance map analysis (IPMA) was also performed to gauge the importance and performance of each dimension of pay satisfaction against organisational trust. The IPMA results revealed that pay structure and administration satisfaction was the most important factor yet it attained the lowest score on performance indicating that organisations in Malaysia should make an improvement to their pay structure and administration satisfaction.

Abstract:
AbstractIt is stressed that Latin America and Perú should become more competitive. Under the actual development scenarios, attention to competences of programme managers and project managers related to public transportation infrastructure projects has risen substantially. An inefficient bureaucratic system is related with deficiencies of people skills and competences. On the other hand, an excellent system demands quality of the system and quality of people working in it.Thus, it is important to have excellence in administration and excellent administrators in the public sector. Three main lacking elements have been identified: i) lack of good education; ii) absence of fair salaries in the public sector; and iii) lack of incentives. Many misconceptions and disputed consequences have been observed and analyzed. It is clear that there is lack of competence among infrastructure transport project managers and teams, which causes trouble with the main goal of Peru getting benefits from these investments and achieving sustainable development. Furthermore, the right way to achieve these benefits is through a new model of education for project managers and programme managers in Perú. This education should be based more on competences than on qualifications. Thus, the International Project Management Association (IPMA) competence baseline, which is the standard that best fits to these needs, needs to be implemented to achieve the real contribution and benefits of these projects to society.

Abstract:
173 Background: The epidemiology of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) of the pancreas is poorly defined. Methods: An epidemiologic questionnaire was administered to patients (pts) with IPMN (n=79), pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PC) (n=689) and healthy controls (n=307). Results were adjusted for age, gender and BMI. IPMN was defined either by surgical pathology (n=62) or characteristic endoscopic ultrasound appearance and cyst fluid CEA>200 ng/ml (n=17). Results: In unadjusted analysis IPMN pts were more likely to be ≥ 70 years of age (OR 5.40 [2.88, 10.46]) when compared with PC pts (OR 2.82) and controls. After adjustment for age, gender and BMI, current tobacco smoking was associated with PC (OR 3.06 [1.78, 5.23]) but not IPMN. Pts with IPMN more often had diabetes mellitus for >3 years compared with controls (OR 3.25 [1.45, 7.00], while pts with PC (OR 1.52 (0.86, 2.67]) did not. IPMN pts were more likely to have a history of hypercholesterolemia compared with controls (OR 1.77 [1.05-2.98]); this was not seen for PC pts (OR 1.16 [0.87-1.55]). A first degree relative with PC was not associated with increased risk for IPMN (OR 0.84 [0.27, 2.62]) or PC (OR 1.48 [0.82, 2.67]). Compared to PC, pts with IPMN were more likely to have a history of an unrelated cancer (OR 1.84 [1.08, 3.14]). Conclusions: Risk factors for IPMN and PC may differ. Compared to PC and control pts, IPMN patients were older; more often had diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia; and did not currently smoke. IPMN was more often associated with a prior history of cancer than PC. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

ABSTRACT We report a case of a 53-year-old man whose first manifestation of coronary artery disease was an acute isolated posterior myocardial infarction (IPMI). Acute IPMI is relatively uncommon and predominantly due to occlusion of the left circumflex coronary artery. IPMI is challenging to diagnose due to the absence of ST segment elevation on a standard 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) even in the setting of total coronary artery occlusion and transmural (Q-wave) infarct. We discuss the diagnostic implications of the absence of tall R waves in leads V1 and V2 on this patient’s ECG. The utility of posterior leads (V7 through V9) is demonstrated. The controversy surrounding the use of thrombolytic therapy or primary angioplasty in the setting of acute IPMI without ST segment elevation on a standard 12-lead ECG is reviewed.

Abstract:
Complex projects require specific project management (PM) competences development. However, while no complex projects have standards that are recognized to guide their management, complex projects do not have guides to deal with their complexity. To lead complex projects to success, this complexity must be measured quantitatively and, in our opinion, project management complexity assessment should be based on existing PM standards. In this work, the main project complexity assessment approaches based on PM standards are analyzed, observing that International Project Management Association (IPMA) approach is the closest to a tool that can be used as a complexity quantitative measurement system. On the other hand, several authors have shown that the inherent complexity of specific kind of projects must be measured in a particular way. The main objective of this research is to propose a project management complexity assessment tool for IT projects, providing a Complexity Index that measures the impact that complexity factors inherent to IT projects have under a specific complexity scenario. The tool combines the use of complexity factors defined by IPMA approach and the use of complexity factors found in the literature to manage inherent complexity of IT projects. All these factors were validated by expert survey and the tool was applied to a study case.

Abstract:
The Indonesian pectin manufacturing industry is underdeveloped, and pectin is imported to meet its increasing demand; we attempted to isolate pectins from various fruit peels, such as orange peel (OP), papaya peel (PP), mango peel (MP), watermelon peel (WP), and chayote peel (CP) and investigated their chemical characteristics (equivalent weight of the extracted pectins and their moisture, ash, methoxyl, and galacturonic acid (GA) contents). Acid extraction, purification, precipitation, and drying processes were used to process the isolated pectins. We examined their chemical properties for conformance to quality standards advised by the International Pectin Producers Association (IPPA). The moisture (except OP pectin) and ash contents (except PP pectin) of the extracted pectins were within the limit set by IPPA. However, the equivalent weight (W eq) of any of the isolated pectins did not satisfy IPPA standards. The methoxyl contents of the pectins isolated from OP, WP, and CP satisfied IPPA standards. High methoxyl pectins were isolated from PP and MP. The galacturonic acid contents of the isolated pectins were higher than the acceptable limit of the GA level. Thus, OP, PP, MP, WP, and CP are potential sources of pectin.

Abstract:
Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) are cystic neoplasms with the potential for progression to pancreatic cancer. Accurate prediction of the malignant potential is challenging and a proper treatment strategy has not been well established. Preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a biomarker of the malignant potential in patients with several types of malignancy. We explored malignant potential in patients with IPMN. The present study included 56 patients aged of 73 ± 9 years (mean ± standard deviation) who underwent curative resection for IPMN from 1996 to 2017. We analyzed the relationship between the characteristics including NLR and malignant component for predicting pathological results. The nonmalignant IPMN group (N = 21) included patients with low-grade dysplasia (LGD) and intermediate-grade dysplasia (IGD), and the malignant IPMN group (N = 35) included patients with high-grade dysplasia (HGD) and invasive carcinoma. In a univariate analysis, NLR ⩾ 2.2 ( P = .001), prognostic nutritional index (PNI) < 45 ( P = .016), CA 19-9 > 37 U/mL ( P = .039), and cystic diameter ⩾ 30 mm ( P = .010), and mural nodule ( P = .010) were significantly different between the malignant IPMN and the nonmalignant IPMN groups. Multivariate analysis showed that high NLR (⩾2.2) (odds ratio 9.79; 95% confidence interval: 2.06-45.6), cystic diameter ⩾ 30 mm (4.65; 1.14-18.9), and mural nodule (4.91; 1.20-20.1) were independently predictive of malignant IPMN. These results suggest that preoperative NLR is a useful predictive biomarker for evaluating malignant potential in patients with IPMN.1

Abstract:

Larger systems today, like telephone and optical switches, are usually based on a multiboard architecture where a set of printed-circuit boards are connected to a backplane board. These systems are also equipped with Boundary-Scan to enable testing, however, the backplane in a multi-board system has a limited wiring capability, which makes the additional backplane Boundary-Scan wiring highly costly. The problem is to access the Boundary-Scan enabled boards with the Boundary-Scan controller located at a central board. In this MSc. thesis project we propose an approach suitable for the Advanced Telecommunication Computing Architecture (ATCA) standard where we make use of the existing Intelligent Platform Management Bus (IPMB) and expands its protocol for application of Boundary-Scan tests. We have also defined a command set as well as a test data format for storing embedded test data on the boards to support the remote execution of Boundary-Scan tests. For validation of the proposed approach we have developed demonstrator.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the subject of project management, primarily from the viewpoint of the development of a tool for project management support using the PRINCE2 methodology and the Unicorn Universe information system. The subject of the theoretical part is the definition of a project and project management and a description and a comparison of the most widely used project management standards, PRINCE2, PMI and IPMA. Subsequently, the emphasis is put on a detailed description of PRINCE2 with regard to its use in the next parts of the work. At the end of the theoretical part of the thesis the chapters are devoted to Unicorn Universe and to Unicorn Enterprise System Powered Company, which is a methodology used for company management. In the practical part, the author followed the recommended 4-phases process of the development of a new methodology set defined by the UESPC methodology; inception, elaboration, construction and transition. By means of the analysis in inception and elaboration stages and creation of A4 and High Level Concept documents, which describe specific ways how to implement various elements of PRINCE2into the Unicorn Universe, and the subsequent production of project management tool prototype, the author worked his way up to the construction stage, in which he designed and created definitions of meta artifacts and scripts for their later implementation in the final phase, called transition. In this phase metaartifacts were set up. They are templates for management and control artifacts and for other items necessary for the production of the methodological set, a final product of the thesis. At the end of thesis, the automation scripts, as proposed in the previous stage to verify the practical use of the thesis product, were assigned for implementation.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis is focused on the role of assurance within project management standards. Firstly, the theoretical role of assurance was established based on the performed research. Three main areas of interest have been identified: Assurance over business, the project itself and the product. The role established in the theoretical part of the work was subsequently compared to information systems development methodologies and project management standards. From the comparison with AUP, Scrum and FDD methodologies, it seems that the better assurance is defined, the longer the feedback cycle is. During the comparison with the three most widespread project management standards - IPMA, PRINCE2 and PMBOK - various areas have been identified where these are not fully compliant with the theoretical role of assurance. Additions to IPMA and PMBOK have been created to support the compliance with the theoretically established role of assurance, fulfilling the objective set for the practical part of the work and providing benefits to IT project management professionals that struggle to deliver quality products while following one of the aforementioned standards.

Corbillon-Gulin, Ramon. "A study of how European Union IPRA practitioners viewed ethical issues : values, standards, social responsibility, and control." Virtual Press, 1996. http://liblink.bsu.edu/uhtbin/catkey/1014808.

Full text
Abstract:
The lack of studies relating to the ethical needs and values of public relations professionals in the European Union indicated the need for a research study to ascertain: 1. the experience of European Union public relations professionals in confronting and resolving ethical issues, 2. what the needs are in charting an ethical course for individual professional conduct, 3.what the needs are to guide organizations in the ethical performance of public relations, and 4. the social responsibility of public relations.Nearly all of the quantitative studies have been devoted to an examination of the views of members of American public relations associations. Numerous authors have pointed out the value of ethical standards and of a means of enforcement of the standards for professions. In spite of an ongoing professional dialogue as to the need, little progress has been made in defining sanctions against those who violate ethical principles while defining themselves as public relations counselors. This study was based on a mail survey created and distributed by Sharpe in the Fall of 1993. Three questions from the 1972 Newsom's research study were added. Threehundred and fifty-five public relations practitioner members of the International Public Relations Association within the European Union in 1995 were identified as the population for this study. A 35.2% response rate was attained after two mailings. The typical respondent was male, had been in the profession from 10 to 30 years, held an accreditation, was a specialist and identified himself as a counselor. He related that he confronted ethical issues with frequency particularly in relation to relationships with clients, the news media, and customers. The majority of the ethical issues, which would have or had transgressed the organizational policies and personal/religious principles, consisted of: misleading information, promising more than could and was delivered, supporting a program with which he disagreed in principle, withholding information, and failure to accept responsibilities. He said that he resolved the last ethical issue encountered, which involved their organization's management performance, by pointing out the ethical issue and influencing an ethical action. He placed some value on both IPRA Codes. He saw all ethical issues as ethically wrong, especially those relating to sexual harassment, the sale of unsafe products and services, discrimination, establishing different pay scales for men and women doing the same work, withholding information for gain at expense of others, and promotion and sale of products in other countries that are unacceptable in the EU that place people at risk. He viewed the public relations profession as having a leading role in improving relationships between peoples of different races within a country and between countries. He saw public opinion as an effective control over public relations performance. Finally, he would recommend the establishment and communication of the organization's ethics code and performance policies so organizational management would be recognized for public relations performance. The employment of public relations officials with professional memberships obligating them to uphold a code of ethical conduct was viewed as a criteria that organizations should establish as evidence of the organization's commitment to ethical public relations.

Abstract:
The English diction texts by Madeleine Marshall and Kathryn LaBouff are two ofthe most acclaimed manuals on singing in this language. Differences in style between the two have separated proponents to be primarily devoted to one or the other. An in-depth study, comparing the precepts of both authors, and applying their principles, has resulted in an understanding of their common ground, as well as the need for the more comprehensive information, included by LaBouff, on singing in the dialect of American Standard, and changes in current Received Pronunciation, for British works, and Mid-Atlantic dialect, for English language works not specifically North American or British. Chapter 1 introduces Marshall and The Singer’s Manual of English Diction, and LaBouff and Singing and Communicating in English. An overview of selected works from Opera America’s resources exemplifies the need for three dialects in standardized English training. Chapter 2 reviews notational and diction resources, and use of the International Phonetic Association’s alphabet (IPA). Chapter 3 directly compares Marshall and LaBouff’s views of the importance of the unstressed syllable, often schwa [ә] or open I [ɪ], as vital to allowing the audience to understand the flow of the sung text, and contrasts their differences regarding < r >. Chapter 4 discusses observations in applying the tenets with singers, focusing on three arias coached for this dissertation. Chapter 5 states conclusions and opportunities for further research. Figures include materials from the Juilliard School Archives. Appendices include interviews.

Abstract:
Speech work, as it relates to actor training, has undergone many important changes since its formal introduction to the field over a century ago by Edith Skinner. Unfortunately, there are many who hold on to antiquated, misinformed and often harmful approaches to this kind of training. This thesis questioned the traditional models of speech pedagogy by creating a narrative for its development, questioning its efficacy, and exploring the alternatives that have developed over the years. I looked at the texts and approaches of Edith Skinner, Patricia Fletcher, Louis Coliaini, and Dudley Knight/Phil Thompson. I acknowledge that each practitioner has made a substantial contribution to the field. In this thesis I question what place each has in the future of speech pedagogy in America. I gathered opinions from both critics and proponents of each work in the hopes of creating a more cohesive understanding of how speech pedagogy should be handled in the future according to those who will be teaching it. This thesis includes considerable usage of phonetic symbols found on the International Phonetic Alphabet establish by the International Phonetic Association.

Full text
Abstract:
Neurotrophins and their receptors are key molecules in the development of the
nervous system. Neurotrophin-3 binds preferentially to its high-affinity receptor
NTRK3, which exists in two major isoforms in humans, the full-length kinaseactive
form (150 kDa) and a truncated non-catalytic form (50 kDa). The two
variants show different 3'UTR regions, indicating that they might be differentially
regulated at the post-transcriptional level. In this work we explore how
microRNAs take part in the regulation of full-length and truncated NTRK3,
demonstrating that the two isoforms are targeted by different sets of microRNAs.
We analyze the physiological consequences of the overexpression of some of the
regulating microRNAs in human neuroblastoma cells. Finally, we provide
preliminary evidence for a possible involvement of miR-124 - a microRNA with no
putative target site in either NTRK3 isoform - in the control of the alternative
spicing of NTRK3 through the downregulation of the splicing repressor PTBP1.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the principal element of the cause of action in negligence, namely breach of duty. The issue of breach of duty is concerned with whether the defendant was careless, in the sense of failing to conform to the standard of care applicable to him. The discussions cover the concept of breach of duty; the objective standard; professional and regulatory standards; updating of standards in the light of new information; the role of cost-benefit analysis and the ‘Learned Hand’ test; weighing the risk and gravity of harm against the cost of prevention; and proof of carelessness, including discussion of the res ipsa loquitur principle.

Abstract:
This chapter begins by looking at the key cases in which the idea of negligence as conduct falling below the standard of the reasonable person was judicially elaborated. It then discusses reasonable care; the utility of the defendant's conduct; the ‘objective’ nature of the standard of care; the relevance of ‘common practice’ in setting that standard; and the doctrine of res ipsa loquitur (‘the thing speaks for itself’).

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the law on standard of care and breach of duty. To establish that the duty of care has been breached, the standard of care must first be found and then it must be decided if that standard was reached in the circumstances. The general standard of care is objective: the ‘reasonable person’ standard. Variations in the standard of care regarding children and the more skilled or professional are discussed, as are those pertaining to sport and the medical profession. Proof of breach must be established by the claimant on the balance of probabilities; occasionally with the benefit of the evidential tool of res ipsa loquitur.

Abstract:
Investigation of wet anisotropic etching of silicon microchannels on (100) silicon is presented with the emphasis to simultaneously fabricate bifurcated silicon channels in <100> and <110> directions. Silicon crystal planes that are playing major role of microchannels sidewalls are characterized for their roughness and etch rates. Beside the standardly smooth {111} crystal planes, microroughness of {110} sidewalls is of particular interest. It is shown that by implementing TMAH-Triton etchant, the roughness of {110} sidewalls was significantly improved over the standard KOH-IPA or TMAH-IPA etching system without affecting the neighboring crystal plane sidewalls. Agitation of the etching solution is found to have significant influence on both, the etch rate and surface roughness. Optimal etching conditions were determined to obtain smooth microchannel sidewalls in two major directions. Furthermore, reduced convex corner underetching was obtained compared to other etching system. Two viable solutions for the connecting through holes or vias are presented by using single or double mask layer photolithography prior to performing the etching step.

Abstract:
There has been a growing interest in electroactive polymers (EAP) because of their ability to serve as artificial muscles for both macro and micro positioning tasks. Ionic Polymer Metal Composites (IPMC) are among the EAP materials that have been extensively studied in the last few years. Along with development of better manufacturing methods and increasing understanding of their mechanical properties, extensive studies have been geared towards controlling the actuation of these actuators. Despite many efforts, the one problem that has not been fully addressed is on electromechanical modeling and control of these actuators. This paper presents additional details on the model that was earlier proposed by the authors for positioning such actuators. Experimental data on Nafion IPMC specimens of various sizes indicated that the specimen has both resistive and capacitive properties that vary with time. By using this experimental data, electrodynamics and electrostatics principles were used in developing an electromechanical model that was experimentally validated on Nafion IPMC specimens of various sizes again. The resulting model was found to be nonlinear time varying that can be linearized and controlled by standard linear optimal control algorithms.

Abstract:
This paper presents the analysis of a hysteresis interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor drive for electric submersible pumps. A hysteresis IPM motor is a self-starting solid rotor hybrid synchronous motor. Its rotor has a cylindrical ring made of composite materials with high degree of hysteresis energy. The rare earth permanent magnets are buried inside the hysteresis ring. A hysteresis IPM motor can self-start without the need of additional position sensors and complex control techniques. It does not have any slip power losses in the rotor at steady state which results in less heat dissipation and low electrical losses. When used in an electric submersible pump (ESP) for oil production, it has the ability to automatically adapt itself to the changes in well conditions. In this paper, a bond graph model of a hysteresis IPM motor ESP drive is used to predict the effect of pump shaft geometry on transient behaviour of the drive during start-up. Simulation results show that the hysteresis IPM motor drive has high efficiency, and is better able to maintain its speed during changes in load. Due to increased efficiency and simplified controller requirements, the hysteresis IPM motor is proposed as a replacement for the standard induction motor currently used for downhole ESPs. This is expected to improve ESP performance and reliability which are critical requirements for use in harsh offshore environments such as Atlantic Canada.
