Abstract:
In recent years, the population is becoming more sedentary and characterized by an increase in the mean age. One of the consequences is a population with a higher risk of chronic diseases, increasing the risk to incur in disability and death. Consequently, health promotion programs, cheaper than interventions, are acquiring an increasingly central role in the politics of Governments. Health promotion programs want to maintain and improve the physical, cognitive, psychical, and social sphere of people. Considering that psychic and social sphere are strictly dependent on the physical condition, the interest of this thesis was on motor tests ideal for health promotion programs. The motor evaluation can take place through laboratory and field tests. Laboratory tests, usually, are more reliable and valid while field tests can be adopted for a larger population, because they are more economic and quick to propose. Since health promotion is aimed at a general population, field tests were investigated. Furthermore, in other disciplines, replicable and precise protocols are adopted and these are named standard operating procedures (SOPs). Unfortunately, in the field of Sports Sciences, SOPs are still not widely adopted. For this reason, the Ph.D. project wanted to examine SOPs in Sports Sciences and health promotion programs in different populations such as young and older adults, and in a population with special needs. This was carried on through reviews of the literature (review, scoping review, and systematic review and meta-analysis) and original studies that evaluated the Grooved Pegboard Test (GPT). During Study 1, the use of SOPs was considered in a population composed of adolescents for the evaluation of the strength of the lower limbs through vertical jumps. The result of the review highlighted the lack of SOPs in vertical jumps and consequently, SOPs were proposed for the countermovement and the squat jump test. During Study 2, a visually impaired population practicing the sport of goalball was analysed using a scoping review of the literature. Field tests adopted in this sport are different and, consequently, SOPs were proposed for the evaluation of goalball players. 1 Study 3, through a systematic review of the literature and a meta-analysis on older adults, assessed whether SOPs existed for the assessment of people in dual-task situations. Again, SOPs did not exist and guidelines to execute in the most appropriate way the secondary tasks were proposed. Study 4 is a pilot study that analysed the influence of a secondary task on the execution of a test to evaluate manual dexterity, the GPT. In conclusion, it was noted that the performance of a cognitive task is more disturbing than a motor task. This study was carried on to provide SOPs for the GPT in a dual-task contest. Study 5 wanted to evaluate the influence that the time spent on smartphones has on the GPT execution. This study was performed to study if normative data created for the GPT had to be updated. The investigation concluded that in young adults, the time spent on the smartphone does not influence the time to conclude the GPT. During Study 6 was investigated if the time to complete the GPT was influenced by the stress level and if a breathing exercise proposed to reduce the stress was useful before the execution of the manual dexterity test. In conclusion, stress does not influence significantly the GPT execution even if it changes the final time. For this reason, it was suggested to adopt, before the execution of the manual dexterity investigation, a short breathing exercise to reduce the effect of the stress. In conclusion, although the field investigated during these three years is reduced to a few tests and specific populations, it is clear that in the Sports Sciences it is necessary to create and follow SOPs in the evaluation of physical fitness, especially for those populations at risk such as children, adolescents, adults and older adults and people with specific needs, and this thesis provided indications and feedback useful for future studies.

This thesis deals with the introduction of Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) in a multinational corporation as part of a reliability improvement process for printed circuit boards (PCBs). More specifically, the thesis focuses on drafting a standard operating procedure (SOP) to standardize the fixture setup process so as to minimize variation in vibrational responses attributed to fixture setup. This study proposes a three phase approach to meet the objective. The first phase aims to minimize variation in the gauges and the vibration table. A gauge repeatability and reproducibility (gauge R&R) test is conducted on two triaxial accelerometers to determine the most suitable gauge for HALT. Next, a spatial uniformity test is conducted on the vibration table using design of experiments (DOE) method to determine the region with the most consistent vibration levels for testing. The second phase aims to reduce variation in fixture usage by introducing a generic fixture design base on fixture design principles. The last phase involves proposing a short-run statistical process control (SPC) method to detect setup variability. The results from the gauge R&R test show that mechanically mounted accelerometers have the least gauge variance. Using an SOP, switching from wax-mounting to threaded stud-mounting reduces gauge variance by approximately 90%. However, wax-mounted accelerometers are still relevant for measuring vibrational responses from PCBs due to its non-invasive properties. The drawback will be that the gauge becomes a key contributor to measurement variation. The spatial uniformity test reveals that the center of the vibration table has the least variation and is selected for the fixture setup. Further limitations on the HALT chamber are highlighted. Evaluation on the proposed generic fixture demonstrates that the fixture has met the key design criteria and manage to induce consistent failures to the PCBs. Limitations on the fixture design are also considered. The proposed SPC method is able to detect at least 88% of the assignable sources of variation in a simulation test. Finally, a custom SOP for the fixture setup is drafted for the company.

In its quest to become a High Reliability Performance (HRP) organization, Amgen manufacturing operations desires to further improve its adherence to, and effectiveness of, its standard operating procedures (SOPs). SOPs are expected to provide clear guidance to operators to enable them to perform their job safely and effectively. This thesis aims to take a step back and answer the question "What is the best way to provide information and instruction to floor operators in order for them to perform their job in the best way possible?" Our hypothesis is that SOPs with content and style customized to the needs of the user will enhance performance along key operational metrics. This thesis includes an analysis of the current challenges of Amgen's existing SOPs including comparison to external benchmarks and academic research. Subsequently, we provide a recommendation on future SOP content, style and supporting infrastructure informed by our research. The analysis concludes with the results of a pilot project designed to evaluate our hypothesis. The analysis indicates that while our initial findings are encouraging, further research is required to conclusively determine the validity of our hypothesis.

Abstract:

This practicum sought to study whether the systematic creation of a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) would increase research staff confidence in their ability and improve knowledge of resources. We wished to determine also faculty confidence in research staff before and after SOP creation. The term SOP and its use came to prominence in the mid 20th century as a descriptor for a systematic method to ensure consistency and efficiency in task completion in organizations. An SOP is any document that seeks to standardize, through plain and instructive language, a common process or task in an organization to ensure the quality and uniformity of the outcome or product of said task or process. The DEM at UTSW was recently created as its own department when it split off from under the umbrella of the Department of Surgery and did not have any documented standardized processes in place regarding research administration actions and procedures. This could have been hindering the ability of the staff to operate efficiently, consistently, and correctly. For this project, the clinical research staff and faculty of the DEM of UTSW were surveyed regarding their confidence levels before and after a set of administrative SOPs was systematically developed to evaluate the success of the aforementioned SOPs. Before creating the SOPs, the staff and faculty were consulted on which SOPs they felt were most needed and, based upon the outcome of these consultations, creation of those SOPs was prioritized accordingly. Then, after looking at SOPs for similar or identical processes from other departments, they were collaboratively created with input and insights of research staff and faculty from these other departments. It was hypothesized that having SOPs would increase research staff confidence, increase efficiency, and increase accuracy in the completion of their duties, as well as increase faculty confidence in research staff. A statistical analysis of the seven pre-SOP research staff responses with six post-SOP research staff responses and 22 pre-SOP faculty responses with 15 post-SOP faculty responses yielded no significant associations. However, the mean response improved for all but one question of the faculty and research staff surveys. Considering the limitations of the present study, including a limited sample size and limited time window for completion, future studies with improved design are needed to further evaluate the impact of SOPs. But valuable, however, is the confirmation by the present study that involvement of personnel to whom SOPs apply is not only valuable and preferred, it is essential to ensuring that they are applicable and useful.

Abstract:
The construction industry has faced severe criticism against its inefficiency, high costs and insufficient quality. Besides, the building branch is one of the most dangerous occupations.Skanska Sverige AB runs an international project focused mainly on improving safety, increasing overall process efficiency and providing customers higher value. A part of this project are Standard operating procedures. These are supposed to be the best practices known at the company and should be used on sites as stepwise work instructions. The purpose of this study was to study the creation of Standard operating procedures and to propose a model for continuous improvement of the Standard operating procedures.A theoretical review concerning standards, standardization and continuous improvement is presented.Four case studies were conducted in the thesis in order to clarify what and how to improve. The case studies show that inspiration can be taken from organizations within or outside the building trade. An important new element in Standard operating procedures would be a risk analysis. The risk evaluation corresponds with Skanska´s safety strives. In order to guarantee that a Standard operating procedure really contains the best practice, the process of continuous improvement has to be well managed. The process can be stimulated by the implementation and improvement management at “Väg och anläggning” Skanska.Based on the empirical study and the theoretical framework, a model illustrating continuous improvement is proposed. The never ending life spiral of a Standard operating procedure involves all the organizational levels. The model demonstrates that small stepwise improvements are more cost efficient than large radical changes.Advantages and risks connected to the continuous improvement are described. The benefits would be both monetary and non-monetary. The key success factor of continuous improvement is the proper implementation of Standard operating procedures since it is up to individuals to keep continuous improvement alive. Both the managers on different levels and workmen must be trained and their importance in continuous improvement process must be deep rooted in their thinking. Proper training and excellent leadership would diminish worker´s resistance and prevent an unwanted phase-out.Finally, Skanska is encouraged to trust its own research. The formal content of Standard operating procedures is good enough for launching.

Reachi, Santiago. "Selected construction contract administration standard operation procedures for Texas Department of Transportation, Odessa District." Texas A&M University, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/137.

Full text
Abstract:
In order to achieve the stated goal of reducing the final closing procedure time cycle for construction projects at the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Odessa District, several standard operating procedures (SOPs) for project construction control and management had to be revised. Seemingly unrelated tasks created posterior chains of events that resulted in bottlenecks in the process and delayed final project closing. Four specific SOPs were identified and analyzed to determine which tasks required modification and what was expected from these modifications. A mission for each specified SOP was conceived and written to give a clear view of the intent of the procedure. Afterwards, district policies were drafted to provide the means to fulfill the intent. The procedural changes, compatible with TxDOT statewide procedures, allowed the time spent in the processes to remain the same but redistributed it to reduce the end-loading of the control process. The new SOPs require an even time distribution cyclically throughout the project. Control procedures are done only once, shortening the final closing procedure for projects by doing one-time, short, cyclical, consecutive control tasks of the same procedure throughout the life of the project, rather than doing some of them once cyclically and then again at the closing procedure and others just at the closing procedure. These changes resulted in a shorter end-cycle time, which substantially reduced the final closing procedure time for each project, without affecting the integrity and safeguards of the project. The changes resulted in more efficient and timely financial, managerial, and engineering control of projects. The procedures revised were (1) Review and Approval of Change Orders; (2) Review and Approval of Monthly Progress Estimates; (3) Review and Approval of Interim and Final Audits and Final Estimate; and (4) Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SW3P) Records Management and Auditing Procedures.

Johnson, Matthew L. "STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES FOR THE TRAFFIC INVENTORY DEPARTMENT OF THE DISNEY ABC TELEVISION GROUP." CSUSB ScholarWorks, 2015. https://scholarworks.lib.csusb.edu/etd/262.

Abstract:
The Mack truck principle is the reason a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) document is a good idea – so I was told by my boss in my early days working for Disney ABC Television Group. This principle is quite simple: if the one person who knows how to do the job walks out the door and is hit by a Mack truck, we have a problem; no one else knows how to do what that person did. And when it comes to television operations, that is a huge dilemma! Standard Operating Procedures is a document that lists the step-by-step process for completing tasks in order to, in this case, keep a network on the air. This document would be beneficial in cases of disaster recovery, but it might be just as useful for training new employees or for covering for someone who is out sick. There may be various reasons to go to the SOP, but they all have the same goal: to keep operations working to fulfill the business objective. An SOP for the operations of an entire network would likely fill at least one if not multiple books, so in order to keep this project manageable, I limited the development of the SOP to one department, Traffic Inventory, which is responsible for the commercial and promotional assets which are sold and scheduled to air on any of the Disney cable networks (Disney Channel, DisneyXD, and Disney Junior.) In order to develop an SOP, it was necessary to review the different software programs in use, and understand their purpose and application to the overall operations of the cable networks. This will be a “living” document, meaning updates and changes will be anticipated, requiring constant maintenance of the SOP in order to keep it up to the latest development. In an effort to make it truly useful, multiple screen captures are used, as this provides a more user-friendly tutorial and makes for a more effective “blueprint” to comprehend and follow. By having Standard Operating Procedures on hand, anyone in the department will be able to effectively follow the process for handling the commercial and promotional assets in an efficient manner, with minimal impact on the daily operation of the networks. This will then be a valuable document, helping the business to keep its commitment to both advertisers and viewers, without the fear of Mack trucks.

Statistical process control is implemented in a high volume machining center to reduce scrap and improve the quality of production. New hires are working in a complex production environment with excellent metrology resources that can be used for real time inspection but there is a lack of standard operating procedures to help them use these resources. A methodology for implementation of statistical process control is developed and evaluated by implementing it in a section of the machining center which has the biggest benefit. Gages are evaluated and control charts are established in that section. Operators are trained in the standard operating procedures related to the different components of SPC. The standard operating procedures are developed to be portable such that SPC can be used in various sections of the machining center. Findings include cost saving benefits and scrap rate reduction of approximately 50% can be achieved for the entire machining center by the implementation of statistical process control. A training matrix is developed to train different people of the company on the concepts of SPC. Implementing SPC in a high volume machining center has proved to deliver value in reduction of scrap, quality improvement, ability to react to changes for the new hires and other benefits. Standard operating procedures have made a difference in the quality inspection of parts and in maintaining high quality standards that can make the machining center a world class manufacturer.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Background Saudi Arabia has suffered from disasters commonly in the last decade. The Saudi military medical services play a major role in confronting these events, but there are anecdotal challenges with their planning and response systems. Currently, disaster planning in Saudi Arabia appears to be undertaken in some detail, but the medical response to disasters is fragmented. This study aimed to review and assess the standard operating procedures for disaster response in the Saudi Arabian military health services. Methods We undertook a prospective, survey-based assessment of disaster response. We sought all disaster plans and Standard Operating Procedures from management and emergency department leadership at each of the 13 Military hospitals. We used a standardised survey tool to evaluate facility disaster planning. This tool gathers quantitative data using close-ended questions and open-ended commentary surrounding a hospital’s disaster response operating procedures. Results There was wide variability in the hospitals across the 20 themes in the survey. While most hospitals have a disaster plan, an up to date version was not always available. Key issues were identified in: management of contaminated patients; coordination of visitors, volunteers and extra staff; media management, and collaboration with other agencies. Conclusion The study highlighted a number of strengths in facility disaster preparedness, and a number of aspects where concerted efforts are required to improve the situation. In general, most hospitals had reasonable disaster plans in place, although none covered all the recommended areas in sufficient detail.

Abstract:
The emergency response readiness of the public health and emergency management systems have become increasingly important topics for research, development and action in the United States. Senior citizens represent a large and growing population group in the United States. Older persons are likely to be disproportionately vulnerable during disasters because they are more likely to have chronic illnesses, functional limitations, and sensory, physical and cognitive disabilities than those of younger ages. Elderly health and safety have become the responsibility of the elderly themselves, of the community in which they live, and the various agencies and organizations charged with preparedness planning. The goal of this study was to assess the emergency operations plans (EOPs) of emergency relief agencies and organizations in the Atlanta area for the provision of emergency relief services utilized by senior citizens as a special needs population. The research and analysis performed was completed in two steps: a review of collected disaster and emergency operations plans (EOPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and a qualitative analysis of a survey submitted to the agencies. Although many EOPs and SOPs referred to emergency relief services for special needs populations, the plans were not functional and did not fully outline the ‘who, what, when, where and how” to provide disaster relief services. Public health agencies must endeavor to better address the disaster related needs of elderly persons who have physical disabilities, special medical needs and communication disabilities. Disaster preparedness plans must ensure the availability of all items necessary to control and prevent complications related to chronic diseases, prevent acute events and promote functionality and independence.

Today, in 21st century, the rapid development of network technology has made the information science become our daily life; all the industries are so engaged with the computers day after day. Alone with the prosperity of technology industries, the computers also become widely used tools for the publics. Meanwhile, the well constructed information technology and high application of internet makes the domestic regular internet population from less than 600,000 in 1996 to today’s enormous growth. The incoming of information technology and the recent popularity of computers and internet, not only causes the new styles of theft, counterfeiting, fraud and pornography that differs from the traditional crimes, but also breeds the increasing amount of potential high-tech criminals because of the increasing amount of popularity who have high-tech and skills. Moreover, the internet crime is still the most common type of high-tech crime today. Owing to the network characteristics, the identity verifying is relatively not easy for the criminals; the collecting of digital evidence will be a severe task for the investigation agencies and investigators against the future high-tech crime. This research is to study the construction of the standard operating procedures for high-tech crime forensics referenced by the information of the investigation about the high-tech crime from the advanced countries, to analyze and discuss the investigation processes of our country. Computer forensics is an emerging field of the information security. Many countries currently plan to develop dedicated computer crime units; training professionals and developing computer forensic hardware and software to find out key security breach evidences with high-tech computer equipment. The common goal is of these efforts is to let the Computer Forensic results, e.g., the digital evidences, be valid, convincing evidences in the court. In recent years, many cases of the military information occurred, thus our army has become aware of the importance of computer forensics. The administrative investigation these leakages is the one of major works in the future since there are wide scopes in the computer crime; the relevant laws and regulations, equipment, professional, technical manpower, forensic procedures are too much to be handled by our current forensics technology. Any mistake in the above factors will significantly affect the forensic results. This paper thus proposes a new Taiwan MND computer forensic standard operating process that is suitable for uses in our army. The security goals are achieved by using the Delphi method to revise the key critical success factors of the operating procedures in the standard international forensic formats. The Taiwan MND was proved by the over 10 experts and scholars and front-line staff with the analytic questionnaire. Based on analytic results, the Taiwan MND is a good procedure to improve our current procedures and to apply in our authorities.

A study on the standard operational procedures of organizing consumer goods expos in Taiwan. This study aims to explore the current operational procedures and practices used in international trade fairs or expositions by Taiwan organizers with data collection using expert interviews. The results of the qualitative study will help to formulate a standard operational procedure s and provide a guideline on organizing, preparing and launching consumer goods fairs for potential organizers in Taiwan. The present research, conducting a thorough literature review, uses qualitative work with expert interviews for data collection and categorizes the participants’ responses into aggregate-level themes. While previous studies take different views and perspectives about operating customer goods expos, the basics or guides listed as follows are essentials in a standard framework: 1. Organizing a new trade fair or expo can be broadly divided into four phases of business plan, preparation, implementation and managing the exhibition, and evaluating results and post-event activities. The phases are in a step-by-step process, and each step lasts for a specific amount of time and contains a specific number of relevant topics. 2. The phase of business plans include the topics of assessing the viable assets of the exhibition and deciding dates, venues and names of the events. The team of management and operations has to be set up ahead of time since it conducts a concrete project of implementation. 3. The phase of preparation is laid out in three directions: calling for exhibitors, sponsors and participants, preparing relevant tasks and executing promotion and communication plans. 4. The phase of implementation and managing the exhibition can be divided into the stages of pre-event and show days. In the days preceding the start of the trade fair, the relevant working unit is responsible for all communications, for processing the registration and for handling the stand allocation and construction according to the requests of the exhibitors in coordination with the fairground authority. During the show days, the relevant working unit has responsibilities of making sure that cleaning is undertaken in the fairground and ensuring that standards are maintained throughout the event and services are correctly performed. 5. During the show days, the working unit has the primary responsibilities of ensuring appropriate reception of visitors, providing access control security, executing the trade fair’s side events, offering customers’ information service, controlling cases on potential violations, monitoring participation progress, obtaining on-site exhibitors’ and visitors’ information, and implementing the events. 6. As the trade fair is over, the organizer party moves into the phase of evaluating results and post-event activities. During this phase, the party has to be engaged in managing a wrap-up, reviewing and preparing a report on the event. The display settles a lawsuit the work may induce for removes unfolds work and so on management, self-criticism work as well as achievement report.

Mass spectrometry (MS) is used in peptidomics to find novel endogenous peptides that may lead to the discovery of new biomarkers. Identifying endogenous peptides from MS is a time-consuming and challenging task; storing identified peptides in a database and comparing them against unknown peptides from other MS runs avoids re-doing identification. MS produce large amounts of data, making interpretation difficult. A platform for helping the identification of endogenous peptides was developed in this project, including a library application for storing peptide data. Machine learning methods were also used to try to find patterns in peptide abundance that could be correlated to a specific sample or treatment type, which can help focus the identification work on peptides of high interest.

Usability plays an important role in the overall pleasure of a product. As a result, much ergonomic experiments have been done in an effort to improve product usability. These experimental results are expected to enhance product usability. However, whether the experimental procedures conformed to the ergonomics or not is a matter for argument. This is a significant issue worth exploring for the researchers in ergonomics studies. The aim of this study was to outline an effective and efficient experimental methodology for improving product usability. Our ergonomics guide, the Ergonomics Experimental Standard Operating Procedure (EESOP) for product usability testing, is a structured methodology that makes use of both qualitative and quantitative methods. The characteristics of EESOP can be summarized as follows: 1) structural procedure, 2) concise usability task description, 3) alternative decision, 4) applicability for product usability testing, and 5) standard usability support documents. Furthermore, this study verified the generalizability of EESOP by applying it to two different types of product usability testing. The two verifying experiments were performed on one consumer product (non-electronic product) and one electronic product. In the verifying experiment I, the optimal choice of tinted visors at different times was significantly presented in the results of verifying experiment. In the verifying experiment II, the design guideline of touched icons was significantly presented by ergonomics experimental standard operating procedure for product usability testing. These results will help users increase the efficiency and satisfaction regarding the products that they are using. In short, this study shows that the EESOP not only increased the efficiency of usability research but also extended the concepts of ISO in the ergonomics laboratory to real-world product testing. Finally, a system interaction model is proposed in this study.

A STUDY ON STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (SOP) AND RISK MANAGEMENT FOR SECURITY INDUSTRY by WU, FU-JUNG January 2009 ADVISOR(S): Dr. SHEU, CHUEN-JIM DEPARTMENT: GRADUATE SCHOOL OF CRIMINOLOGY MAJOR: CRIMINOLOGY DEGREE: MASTER OF LAW The rapid development of the security industry has led to tremendous growth in the number of security companies being established. This exciting market has gradually resulted in variance in service standards and hostile competition. Public opinion, in general, of “security” is poor and the industry image is gradually declining. The primary reason for this is because this industry lacks a set of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), thus, barring it from providing safe protection and satisfactory services. Therefore, the establishment of a set of “Standard Operating Procedure” is urgently needed, ranging from personnel screening, educational training, to various levels of on-the-job training, in order to achieve a set of uniform standards and processes. As such, control of quality and upgrading of service standards can be anticipated. However, service industry is dynamic and, greatly impacted by external circumstances and unexpected occurrences. Therefore, reliance on general operating process is insufficient to meet such needs, e.g. earthquake, fire, robbery and other sudden incidences resulting in panic, inadequate reaction, let alone events beyond imagination such as explosion, kidnapping of hostage, etc. Consequently, introduction of “Risk Management” concept into security SOP is fundamental to improvement, and it not only serves as a precaution against future incidences but can be applied on a day-to-day basis, thus preventing unnecessary disturbances. This study initially collected standard operating procedure for four major types of security produced by industry (system security, station security, transport security, personal security) which totaled 27 documents. In addition, a group workshop for 20 participants and 4 individual interviews were conducted in order to supplement and enhance the establishment of SOP. Finally, the “Risk Management Concept” was applied to further strengthen this study. This study discovered that there are at least 120,000 people working in this private security industry which is at least 3.5 times more than the official government statistic. This population is widely scattered thus making management training very difficult and educational training, in general, inadequate. The establishment of SOP is thus critically needed. Statistics show that a good set of SOP can avoid 75% risk. Furthermore, security business possesses preventive precaution as its mission objective, and the desperate need for risk management control far exceeds that of ordinary businesses. Therefore, risk management concept is especially included in SOP, and hence, risk management control is integrated into SOP, and within risk management control, standard operating process can be followed, to ultimately achieve comprehensive security service. Since 2003, the world economy has noticeably improved and recovered, and shipping industry superior to air freight industry takes on an important role quickly according to the required trade behavior and shipment transportation. As freight volume increases drastically, each shipping company aggressively expands shipping routes and fleets, but there is a danger to the oceans hidden behind the huge business opportunity and transportation capacity. Global environmental conscience arises, and oil pollution caused by ships has become an eye-catching issue of the International Maritime Organization of United Nation and governments of different countries, since maritime disasters and accidents or malicious discharges have immeasurable impacts on marine ecology and environment and the risk and difficulty of handling such pollution are higher than those on land. Particularly, oil used for containers is heavy oil or engine room oil having a high viscosity and a low volatility, and there is a higher level of difficulty of handling such oil than light distillate oil. If oil is handled improperly and permeated into the ecological environment, adverse influences and damages are imposed on marine life. Although large ship companies in the industry have controls and response measures for oil pollutions, yet small ship companies still have limited knowledge on oil pollution control, and thus the effect of preventing oil pollution is still ineffective. In fact, an effective pollution prevention standard operating procedure is required to reduce the oil pollution condition of containers, such that when crew members encounter an oil pollution, they can base on the operating procedure and response sequence to identify a polluting source immediately and control the pollution effectively. Therefore, ship companies should establish a comprehensive oil pollution control and prevention standard operating procedure in advance to prevent the oil pollution problem of containers effectively, and equipments and manpower of government environmental protection agencies are used together to prevent and control oil spill and recycle waste oil effectively, so as to reduce the impacts of oil accidents. Although the oil control and prevention standard operating procedure is not a cure-all solution for oil pollutions, both oil control and prevention standard operating procedure and education and training of crew members can reduce malicious discharges, and allow ship companies to have a guideline of handling ship pollution accidents and help speeding up the process of handling oil pollution and lowering the chance of spilling oil into the ocean.

Abstract Recently, housing and real estate in local market shrunk over at least ten years. The demand dropped and benefits decreased for all the industries. How to survive in this severe situation and operating profitable be a significant issues and could be a terrible challenge to all high level managers. The industry of housing and real estate in Taiwan has particular characteristics about capital investment, high risk and high profit comparer to external environment. Never the less, the entire process is complicated and needs a high level of operational techniques to control. From the managerial point of view, internal process can effectively be controlled in terms of a systematic operating, if compared to the external environment. The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) could be developed articulated result and the guideline especially for a single housing project. All of the employees can easily follow-up throughout the entire process without any queries. Based on its SOP, high level managers could effectively supervise but need to integrate the process with the existing internal environment such as organization, mission, technology. In the end, try to progress the SOP as the company’s capability and resource. The housing and real estate industries can following a formalized procedure to establish SOP in terms of the suggestions of this papers. When they use the SOP to integrate the entire process to improve the competitive advantage, the most effective method of organizational control could be Leading Part (LP) in local based on the previous experience. LP will play the role of first line staff when they execute the SOP and targeting to three major goals of Cost, Quality, and Schedule. According to the previous finish project five years ago in Taipei, to achieve the best performance, all LP must be involved by cross teams work such as matrix organization and shared information between LP and exist divisions. The most important things when LP will run SOP, all necessary preparation issues before starting the project to prevent any un-predictable uncertainties and try to maintain it within a controlled level. Therefore individualism is particular prohibited in organization. Recommend all housing and real estates’ companies use the SOP competitive advantage and choosing some generic market niche such as cost leadership products (low cost) or differentiation product (high cost) and looking forward to future emerge profitable projects─ housing lease, city reconstruction, special BOT project.

The concept of computer aided process planning (CAPP) has been raised for several years. The basic idea is to use the information, which can be processed by the computer, to assist the human operator to generate the part standard operation procedure (SOP). The most common approach used in CAPP was to apply part feature information and human knowledge to generate SOP. In this research, another approach, hierarchical case-based reasoning (HCBR), has been used in the supporting of SOP generation. Compared with the tradition form feature CAPP approach, this method starts from the simplified case and extends to the complicated situation gradually. In addition, more manufacturing features have been used in HCBR rather than the used of form features in traditional approach. A computer software based on the proposed approach has been developed. A real world sample part has been used in the demo of the software to ensure the feasibility of the proposed method. In Taiwan, besides their regular teaching schedule, most of the teachers are also responsible for their school’s administrative tasks. In addition, these administrative tasks frequently change for the assigned teacher; it can be messy and complicated sometimes. Since most of the teachers are not trained for this type of job, the desire to work and quality of work of teachers on these administrative tasks is low. We will attempt to solve the problem of senior high school teachers holding the post of administrative tasks. In this research paper, we will begin to discuss some of the historical facts and related publications/researches about our current issue. Also, we use job analysis to discover the fundamental problem of the issue. Then we conduct several interviews with members of the school’s administration board for an exchange of opinions. Finally, we conclude our research with better formatted/improved Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that we believe are the more practical approach/solution to the problem. The final results of our research were published in a standard procedure booklet for further reference. According to the interviews we conducted, we found out that there are many benefits to using Standard Operating Procedure (SOP): (1) Better clarity of instructions. (2) Improvement of the confidence of the people doing the task. (3) Ease of transfer and reference. (4) Reduction of mistakes in the tasks. (5) Standardized task procedures, increasing performances. (6) Increase of the speed of validation, ease of keeping track of the process. (7) Transparent procedures and decision making led a better work environment. (8)The communication and support from each department is the key element of successful SOP. The priority job for a teacher is teaching. By executing SOP in school, we can reduce teacher pressure significantly and have better quality of education. There are still many improvements and further research can be made regarding the results of this research. However, today, SOP is not a popular methodology in most school systems; we hope this research can be the starting point for fellow researchers.

The aim of this study is to review the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) used in the Radiopharmacy Department of the Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to prepare 90Y labelled SIR-Spheres microspheres, in order to improve the dispensing procedure for delivering the intended patient treatment doses. The specification is: the activity prescribed ±10%. Methods: Eleven tests were carried out according to the current SOP. Radioactivity was diluted in up to 3 or 5 ml of water for injection and inserted into a V-vial. Following this, the used syringes and needles were measured using a Capintec Radionuclide Calibrator to check for any remaining activity. Results: One of the doses dispensed (11th) was below the specification. This, is in, turn triggered the review of the SOP. The operator must dilute the dose up to 3 ml with water for injection and inject it in the V-vial. According to the new procedure, using the same syringe and needle the operator must draw up an additional 1 ml of water for injection and inject this volume again into the V-vial. This washes the syringe and needle and removes any remaining activity. Conclusions: The reviewed SOP to prepare 90Y labelled SIR-spheres microspheres has shown to improve the dispensing procedure in terms of dose delivered to the patient. The collected data has been accepted and the reviewed SOP implemented in the Radiopharmacy Department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Growing evidence suggests that supply chain integration (SCI) has a positive impact on firm and supply chain performance, such as delivery, quality, flexibility and cost. However, only recently has there been a call for a systematic approach to SCI, as increasingly global competition has caused organizations to rethink the need for cooperative, mutually beneficial supply chain partnerships and the joint improvement of inter-organizational processes has become a high priority. In order to fully understand SCI and its relationship to performance, there is a need to examine both how individual dimensions of SCI are related to different dimensions of performance, as well as how patterns of SCI are related to different dimensions of performance. This research focused on the fit between the different industrial environment and supply chain process design and the fit between supply chain process design and IT use affect the relationship of the supply chain integration and performance. From the research results we suggest that firms develop IT infrastructure integration for SCM and leverage it to create a higher-order supply chain integration capability will generate sustainable performance gains.

Linear Programming, Dynamic Programming, and Branch-and-Bound Algorithm are among the popular methods in solving optimization problems. While the problems are complicated, these methods are time and memory consuming, and thus they are inefficient in finding solutions. In this thesis, we focus on the improvement of Genetic Algorithm. In order to employ Genetic Algorithm more efficiently, we should know how to select operators and parameters of Genetic Algorithm. For approaching the optimal solution, the selections must be suitable and they are dependent on the real problem. However, it is difficult to determine operators and parameters in Genetic Algorithm. Hence, this study aims to present the Standard Operation Procedure in Genetic Algorithm (SOPGA) to solve the optimization problem. We briefly divide the problem into three categories. For each category, we present its corresponding encoding scheme and relevant genetic operators. In order to improve the search capability of Genetic Algorithm, SOPGA uses three local search methods to deal with the problems in each of the three categories. To facilitate the setting of the genetic parameters, we use self-adaptive control to determine relevant parameters. We use three popular templates i.e., the unconstrained optimization problem, the traveling salesman problem, and the knapsack problem to test our method. The experimental results show that SOPGA is useful to find approximately the optimal solution.

The design of a progressive die is traditionally carried out by engineering drawing in the 2D CAD environment, however 2D engineering drawing is often unable to completely express the 3D spatial structure. This requires the die designer to spend a lot of time adding additional sectional views, detailed views, and annotations into the die engineering drawings, so that the subsequent engineering staff can comprehend the structure of the progressive die. To overcome this problem, this thesis attempted to conduct progressive die design under the 3D CAD environment of Creo and established a set of standard operating procedures. The progressive die that is established through these procedures possesses a robust design change function. When the designer makes a design change on the stamping parts or stripe configuration, the geometric shapes of the punch, insert, and mold plate on the mold base will change quickly and accurately. The standard operating procedures developed by this thesis for the progressive die first establishes the 3D CAD model for the stamping parts; then uses the stamping parts to design the stripe; followed by designing the mold base of the stripe as well as the insert and punch on the mold base. When using the concept of top-down design, the edges on the stripe are used extensively as the reference geometry, so that there are relationships between the stripe and the mold base as well as the insert and the punch that automatically update the geometries of all relevant mold components in order to meet the requirements of design change.

Several domestic situations are listing below. First, due to the aging society and the reluctance of young workers participated in the construction project, the uneven quality of the project arises frequently. Second, although the drywall system can be applied to the external curtain wall, there are no clear regulations or official statute about the details such as wall composite performance layer, wall decoration, construction process, check points, core building technology, related construction methods, and even the entire wall structure. Accordingly, the purpose of this research is to develop a standard operating procedure(SOP) which can be applied to improve the quality of construction project and reduce the negative effects caused by human factors. The procedure of this study is divided into four stages: Draft, Provisional Draft, Confirmation, and Final Draft. The first Draft stage consists of data and program collation. The Provisional Draft is followed by the Draft stage. It contains investigation of site application procedure and check points, initial plan of standard operating procedure, and the draft for self-checking form. After the Provisional Draft stage is Confirmation stage. We conducted in-depth interviews at this stage and optimized the initial procedures and self-checking forms. That the SOP and self-checking forms were finalized in the Final Draft stage. In final, standard operating procedures and check key items which described in the following three stages according to the drywall system: preparation stage before the application, site construction stage, and completion acceptance stage.

At present, the working hours of the chemical liquid supply system practitioners are 24 hours a day, and most of them are dispatched personnel. If the manpower is reduced under the cost considerations, the workload is higher but the welfare remains the same will make the turnover rate of the employees become higher, resulting in the inability to accumulate and inherit the technical experience, and the vicious circle with higher personnel turnover and higher work harm. Therefore, in order to meet the professional needs of customers for the operation of the system, it is necessary to shorten the training time of the practitioners of the chemical liquid supply system, and to develop a set of standard operating processes, so that the experience inheritance is easy to go online. The high-hazard chemical liquids that must be used in semiconductor manufacturing processes, and the flow of operation of the chemical liquid supply system are the scope of this study. This research will help users to plan a good, safe and standardized process through a professional concept that will provide a high-risk supply of chemicals. After discussing the scope of work of the operation flow of the chemical liquid supply system, the standard operation processes are established for the maintenance and replacement of the facilities and chemical liquids in the system used in the plant. This study has established a safe chemical liquid supply system operation process: how to replace the chemical, how to estimate the management of chemical consumption and safety stock, how to ensure the normal operation and repair of the system, to ensure the future chemical exchange tube operation is stable and safe.

An in-depth interview was used to collect data. An interview guideline was developed based upon review of relevant literatures. Several sport event marketing scholars were invited to examine the validity of this interview guideline. Other promotional materials and official documents also were collected on-site during the event period for the sake of reliability test. The results of this study found. First, event slogan, a mind identity, was selected through public submission but this process could not identity the proper one. The publicity team of the organizing committee created the event slogan itself. . , The event logo and mascot, part of the visual identity system was asked for public submission as well. However, only one proposed logo was selected. , The publicity department invited a local artist to develop the event mascot.Secondly, spokesperson for this event, a behavior identify, invited through the effort of outsourcing partners of this event organizing committee and approved by the Advisory BoardAs for the event thme song, part of thehearing identity, event organizer did not perceive its importanceso that the themed song and other relevant hearing identity were not constructed. Thirdly, executive committee had the authority to make a final decision in the event identity system, which was quiet different from o major international sporting events Several conclusions was made. First, the event organizer do not buiil the quality standards in development of the event identity system. Secondly, the event identity system wased created through internal efforts and and presented in the in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization Committee . Thirdly, guideline inevent identitysystem planning and procedures wasnot clearly documented.. Fourth, the executive committee was responsible for planning and creation of the entire event identity systme and then reporting to the Organizing Committee. This study also provided recommendations for further research as well as event organizer .

This study applied the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to construct the model of behavior intention of foodservice industry staff apply standard operation procedure (SOP). The purpose of this study was to understand the influence of each variables (behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs, control beliefs, attitude toward the behavior, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control) toward behavioral intention of foodservice industry staff applied SOP. The survey was conducted questionnaires to the foodservice industry staff, a total of 410 valid questionnaires, 397 were returned, the effective recovery rate was 96.83%. The result of this thesis, we found that attitude toward the behavior, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control were positive behavior attitude toward the applied SOP. Using correlation analysis, we found correlation between behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs, control beliefs, attitude toward the behavior, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, behavioral intention and behavioral satisfaction. Furthermore, attitude toward the behavior, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control showed a 57.4% significant predictive power to applying SOP behavior intention under the multiple regressions; applying SOP behavior intention showed 65.6% significant predictive power to applying SOP behavior satisfaction under the multiple regressions. No significant difference between different personal gender and working experience in behavior intention and behavior satisfaction. However higher education staff, management team staff, younger generation staff, restaurant chain store staff and western food restaurant had higher positive behavior intention and behavior satisfaction. Moreover, the staff that did on job training had higher positive behavior intention but no significant difference in behavior satisfaction.

Abrasive polishing is the last step of detailed finishing process. There are three factors affecting efficiency and quality of abrasive polishing, which are grinding equipment, abrasive wheel, and operation personnel. This study mainly uses case study method to perform researches. In the processes of abrasive polishing, we use both technicians and semi-automatic machine tools to do accurate calibrations. Therefore, the results might vary due to different machine operators. By making Standard Operation Procedure(SOP) for operators, we tried to reduce mistakes from workers, increase the yield of products, rise abrasive speed and efficiency of production. In the future, both senior and new workers scope of work and work items can be followed. Besides, they can provide their own ideas to improve the production. Companies should be able to use the SOP as a basic training materials. In addition, they can also provide proper suggestions according to the issues they encounter during operations to further enhance the quality of products and make companies more competitive.

The FEWS_Taiwan platform, developed by Deltares of the Netherlands and the Water Resources Agency, was used in the study. The meteorological and hydrologic information during the flood season was collected and summarized in the platform, and exterior hydrologic and hydraulic models were introduced for the river water level calculation. The system provided the display of calculation result and the output of decision-supporting reports. The FEWS_Taiwan platform connects various exterior heterogeneous hydrologic and hydraulic models, such as the SCA-SMA for surface runoff calculation, the Hec-Ras for one-dimensional hydraulic modeling and the MODFLOW for groundwater modeling. After summarizing the demands of publication control and the high threshold for information technology development and with the factor of system integration across several disciplines, it is found that the extremely different background knowledge results in problems in the program development process, such as the difficulty in information integration and the time-consuming process of information transmission. The programming engineering methodology was adopted to establish the standard operation procedure for the connection of current FEWS_Taiwan models. The organizational features of FEWS_Taiwan and the case of model connection were analyzed to propose the improvement goal. The method that is the closet to the goal in the methodology was selected as the example. In the methodology, the eXtreme Programming (XP) features development in smaller units, work in smaller groups, refactoring, collective ownership, pair programming and coding standard, and they are similar to the organization features of FEWS_Taiwan and project development problems. Therefore, XP was selected as the fundamental example for the standard operation procedure. For the insufficiency of XP in the development documents, the Unified Modeling Language (UML) was brought in by combining the IBM Rational Unified Process (RUP) to specify the information of development documents. The standard operation procedure was established for the current FEWS_Taiwan team, and it should be used for the improvement of the team’s development efficiency and quality and the reduction of maintenance costs in the future.
