The ever-increasing incidents of forest fire in the Himalayan region cause a threat to flora, fauna, livelihoods, and the environment. The Chir pine (Pinus roxburghii) forests are especially susceptible to forest fires due to their resin-rich leaf litter. This study investigates forest structure, regeneration, biomass-carbon dynamics, leaf-litter, and soil physio-chemical properties in two Chir pine stands in the Upper-Kosi watershed, Almora district, Uttarakhand. Both stands exhibited lower tree density, good regeneration potential, biomass-carbon, and litter mass due to intense biotic pressu

AbstractThe decline of spruce stands caused by bark beetle outbreaks is a serious economic and ecological problem of forestry in Slovakia. In the preceding period, the decline affected mainly secondary spruce forests. Over the last decade, due to large bark-beetle outbreaks this problem has been observed also in natural spruce forests, even at high elevations. We dealt with this issue in a case study of short-term development of larch-spruce stands in the High Tatras (at a site called Štart). Abstract:
Abstract This work presents the design of a motorized tree climbing lift developed for pinecone farmers in Lebanon. The current process of harvesting pinecones in Lebanon consists of a two-person team; one person manually scales a sixty-foot-tall Pinus Pinea tree, using only a sling, to shear pinecones, while the other collects the fallen pinecones from the ground. While this technique is effective, the one-point contact between the sling and the tree can cause the user to slip on to the siliceous terrain, resulting in annual casualties. Furthermore, the sling is fixed to the tree by friction

The Fortress of Aguilar de la Frontera, together with the defensive fence of the town, is one of the oldest fortifications studied in the province of Córdoba, whose origins date back to at least the 9th century, the main episode of war being the Battle of Poley, a key historical milestone for the future of the Umayyad Caliphate. Abstract:
Photovoltaics plays a crucial role in Germany’s energy transition as one of the world’s leading PV installers. The country faces significant challenges in managing the end-of-life of PV systems, especially as it targets up to 400 GWp of installations by 2040, underscoring the need for enhanced recycling infrastructure. This report sheds light on the complexities of PV end-of-life management in Germany, offering suggestions for sustainability enhancements and establishing a benchmark for global PV waste management practices.

This paper analyzes influences on the credit standing of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), specifically the quality, diversification and single name concentration of their portfolios, and on the market practice known as Preferred Creditor Status (PCS), whereby sovereigns that default on other debt rarely fail to meet their obligations to MDBs. The paper examines how rating agencies assess MDB ratings, focusing in particular on how Standard & Poor's assesses capital as part of its MDB rating process. The results are compared with those implied by an industry-standard, ratings-based Cre

In October 2020, The Bahamas became the first country in the world to nationally launch a central bank digital currency (CBDC), the Sand Dollar. The impressive growth of this new technology inspires the question: why are so many countries interested in CBDCs? This paper seeks to understand both the drive behind CBDCs in general and why so many developing countries—small states in particular—are adopting them so quickly.

Abstract:
Consolidation — the combining of banking institutions via mergers and acquisitions — became widespread in the 1980s and continued into the 1990s and 2000s as regulatory changes permitted banks to operate in multiple states and technology enabled banking institutions to provide services at lower costs (Rhoades, 1996; Adams, 2012; Wheelock, 2011). While the benefits of consolidating are clear for an institution, the benefits (and costs) for the consumer are less clear, especially as media headlines often associate consolidation with the closing of bank branches.
