Crossbred pigs 3 to 4 weeks of age were randomly assigned from outcome groups based on weight and sex to one of four dietary treatments either with or without added soybean oil or hulls. Nursery air quality was evaluated by measuring the concentrations of ammonia, carbon dioxide, settled dust, suspended particle size, and by microbiologically culturing air samples. Weekly performance data was also collected. ADG was unaffected by dietary treatment. ADFI was increased when soybean hulls were added to the ration with the difference being significant in trials 1 and 2 and over-all. Adding soybea

The early weaning of calves onto concentrated diets provides an economically viable alternative rearing method with comparable calf performance. The emphasis in meat production has shifted to the production of lean meat, therefore the deposition of protein instead of fat has become a priority. The optimum level of dietary crude protein for growing calves is well established. Very little, however, is

Induction motors are widely used in industrial processes. The malfunction of a motor may not only lead to high repair costs, but also cause immense financial losses due to unexpected process downtime. Since thermal overload is one of the major root causes of stator winding insulation failure, an accurate and reliable monitoring of the stator winding temperature is crucial to increase the mean time to catastrophic motor breakdown, and to reduce the extraordinary financial losses due to unexpected process downtime. Abstract:
New processes for the production of polymeric dispersions with high solids content and low viscosity were developed, investigated and characterized. The specifications required for the desired application of paper coating, which constitutes one of the major innovative aspects of this thesis, requires in average particle sizes smaller than 200 nm. This particle size is significantly smaller than obtained in previous work in this area. The main objective of this project was to increase the solids content of existing products from ~50 to ~60 wt% while keeping the viscosity at low levels (< 1200 m
