The Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale (IRI), a state-controlled holding company, was founded in 1933. Its original mission was to prevent the collapse of Italy's largest universal banks by taking over their huge industrial shareholdings. As a consequence, the historiography traditionally associates it with the concept of ‘entrepreneurial state’. This article aims to challenge this interpretation by focusing on the ideas and actions of three prominent figures: Alberto Beneduce, the IRI's first chairman; Donato Menichella, Beneduce's right-hand man who became governor of the Bank of Ital

The distributed nature of renewable energy has given rise to new forms and scales of energy governance, in particular the emerging role of households and community organisations in generating and distributing renewable energy. Accompanying this trend has been the emergence of intermediary organisations, whose role it is to mediate between these actors cf. the market and the state, with the aim to move from local experimentation to widespread transformational change. This article employs event history analysis to explore the factors that were associated with the rapid uptake of teacher evaluation reform. We investigate three hypotheses for this rapid adoption: (a) downward diffusion from the federal government through Race to the Top (RTTT), (b) upward diffusion from large school district policies, and (c) the influence of intermediary organizations. Although RTTT clearly played a role in state adoption, our analysis suggests that having a large district implement teacher evaluation reform is the most consistent predictor of state adoption. Abstract:
In this paper, we estimate the effect of temperature on the economic activity of Mexico using 42 years of quarterly panel data on economic growth at the state level. Our findings reveal a concave relationship between quarterly economic growth and quarterly average temperature that is maximized at around 20 degrees Celsius. Average temperatures above this level are associated with lower economic growth rates with sharper declines for agricultural and low-income states. Temperature affects aggregate economic growth mainly through the effect it has on the growth of the primary and secondary secto

Abstract:
Suriname is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Among the factors that exacerbate its vulnerability are its dependency on fossil fuels, the degradation of important ecosystems (e.g., mangroves), and the fact that 87% of the population, and most of the countrys economic activity is located within the low-lying coastal area. Many sectors are at risk of suffering losses and damage caused by gradual changes and extreme events related to climate change. For Suriname to develop sustainably, it should incorporate climate change and its effects into its decision-making process based on

Abstract:
A theory of the vibrational spectra of glasses, based on allowance for the statistical fluctuations of the local elastic constants, is proposed. The existence is established of two characteristic energies h, and h, , dividing the spectrum into regions of qualitatively different behavior of the density of states n (h). At low frequencices w 4 w, the increase of the density of states is determined by the additive contributions of phonons and mutually noninteracting quasilocal vibrations in random soft atomic potentials in the glass. In the intermediate region w , 5 w 5 w, the quasilocal vibratio
