Socioeconomic structure in Sikkim often leads to women's participation in different walks of life. The bulk of the micro-enterprises and tourists spots are managed through women, and accounts for fourth highest self-employed women in India inside the territory. Considered a haven for women employees for security reasons along with the other tourism centered state Goa, this Eastern Himalayan state made significant progress in GPI since statehood in 1975.
