This study provides an examination of landscape perceptions, specifically geopiety or sacred landscape perceptions, at Mounds State Park. Through archival analysis I traced 2000 years of landscape perceptions at the park and found that geopiety has been an underlying influence in shaping perceptions. In humid environments surface water erosion, rather than seepage water erosion has been considered the major erosional force. The canyons in Starved Rock State Park, north-central Illinois, are not typical in form for eastern United States humid-temperate climate landscapes. Eutrophication is of interest in the field of water quality. Eutrophic lakes, when used as sources for drinking water, can cause problems during the treatment process, for example algae blooms can clog filters, requiring more water and energy to be used during the cleaning and backwashing of the filters. A landslide inventory was conducted for the Redland and Estacada Quadrangles of western Oregon using LiDAR DEMs. Many of these landslides were field verified. In total, 957 landslides were mapped using LiDAR whereas previously, only 228 landslides were believed to exist in the study area based on SLIDO information. In Milo McIver State Park, 41 landslides were mapped using LiDAR. SLIDO indicated only three landslides present within the park. <p>A method of rapid field assessment and predictive modeling was developed to characterize vegetation communities of the Gorges State Park and Gamelands and to create predictive community maps for the area. This method placed an emphasis on locating rare communities using expert information, existing databases, aerial photography, and random encounters in efforts to provide information to researchers and park personnel about community locations. <p> A perpetual spring containing an orange biofilm composed of microbial sheaths was examined utilizing both geochemical and biological techniques. Big Bend Ranch State Park, the largest state park in Texas, covers over 120,000 hectares in the Chihuahuan Desert. While most surface features in this rugged, remote, and unpopulated setting are volcanic, underlying sedimentary features are found throughout the area.
