We present two methods used in the identification of viscoelastic parameters of asphalt mixtures used in pavements. The static creep test and the dynamic test, with a frequency of 10 Hz, were carried out based on the four-point bending beam (4BP). In the method identifying viscoelastic parameters for the Brugers’ model, we included the course of a creeping curve (for static creep) and fatigue hysteresis (for dynamic test). It was shown that these parameters depend significantly on the load time, method used, and temperature and asphalt content. A similar variation of parameters depending on te

The static shear creep behavior of asphalt mastic containing recycled red brick powder (RBP) is investigated in this paper. The used mastic consists of asphalt and filler at a mass ratio of 1:1. It is concluded that the introduction of RBP results in smaller deformation, higher static shear creep stiffness modulus of asphalt mastic at 0°C. Oscillation experiments, creep tests and shear stress ramps have been performed to analyze the yield stress and its time dependency. It has to be distinguished between iso-structural, dynamic and static yield stress. The iso-structural yield stress occurs immediately after shearing. Since the slurry structure remains unchanged, it is equivalent to the structure during shearing. At rest an internal structure builds up, this leads to an increase of the yield stress, which is referred to as the dynamic yield stress. It increases until its maximum value, the static yield stress, is reached.

Abstract:
Engineered Metal Mesh Foil Bearings (MMFB) are a promising low cost bearing technology for oil-free microturbomachinery. In a MMFB, a ring shaped metal mesh (MM) provides a soft elastic support to a smooth arcuate foil wrapped around a rotating shaft. The paper details the construction of a MMFB and the static and dynamic load tests conducted on the bearing for estimation of its structural stiffness and equivalent viscous damping. The 28.00 mm diameter, 28.05 mm long bearing, with a metal mesh ring made of 0.3 mm Copper wire and compactness of 20%, is installed on a test shaft with a slight pr

Abstract:
Metal mesh is a commercially available material used in many applications including seals, heat shields, filters, gaskets, aircraft engine mounts, and vibration absorbers. This material has been tested by the authors as a bearing damper in a rotordynamic test rig. The test facility was originally used to support the design of a turboprop engine, developing squirrel cages and squeeze film dampers for both the gas generator and power turbine rotors. To design the metal mesh damper, static stiffness and dynamic rap test measurements were first made on metal mesh samples in a specially designed no

Ultra Deep offshore oil exploitation (down to 3000 meters depth) presents new challenges to offshore engineering and operating companies. Flow assurance and particularly the selection of insulation materials to be applied to pipe lines are of primary importance, and are the focus of much industry interest for deepwater applications. In this field, particular attention is now focussed on the long term behaviour of the assembly between coated field joints and parent coating material which appears to be critical for in-service durability. A field joint is the uncoated area that results when two p
