Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract This note expands on an article by Malcolm Parkes, published posthumously in The Library. In his article, Parkes looks at monograms left by Oxford stationer Thomas Hunt in the manuscripts that Hunt appraised. He argues that Hunt capitalized on these manuscripts, using them as securities for borrowed money he in turn invested in his printing business. Thos note shows that Hunt appraised several more books than Parkes found and suggest that Hunt’s work as a university stationer was possibly more lucrative than previously imagined.

Abstract:
The volatility of financial security make an investor difficult and inaccurate to predict the value of targeted investation. The failure for predicting the value of financial asset will mitigate for either succeed or not an investation. That condition will not happen if an investor has knowledge for predicting the volatility financial asset. There for, we need study for forecasting the spillover effect of financial asset using ARCH-GARCH model. The novelty of this study is, we compare the three of ASEAN ETFs that still rarely investigate, are: Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore using 5 samples of ETFs. We applied Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (ARCH) and Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) for predicting the spillover efect. The result of unit root test shown that the data not stationer at level, however stationer at first difference. The result of GARCH for JK-LQ45, EWS and EIDO are not significant and it mean there is not ARCH effect. In contract the result are significant for ETF EWM and FXSG. We also found the best AIC are from ETF EWS and ETF FXSG.

The purpose with this case study is to find out what a good hands-on-artifact made for museums is and how it should be designed. The study is made at the Marvels of the human body located at the Swedish museum of Natural history. The empirical material has been collected trough short interviews and observations with visitors at the museum and extended interviews with people working in the field. The results have then been analyzed individually but also together, after this the results have been categorized. The conclusion of this study showed that there is a lot of aspect to have in mind when creating interactive stations, one of the most important aspects is distinctiveness about the purpose of the station and how it should be carried out.

Abstract:

Abstract:

This thesis investigates the possibilities to standardize and modularize the low-voltageswitchgear in ABB’s HVDC-stations. The reason for this is that the customized solutionthey use today take too much engineering and production time to meet the expectedincrease of projects. The report is based on thirteen stations in eight different closed or ongoing projects. Theselection was based on the station size, geographical location, commissioning year andstation type.In order to obtain a correct representation of the loads in the low-voltage switchgear, therelevant station documentation was reviewed and compiled in a database. The data wasthen analyzed to determine the most frequently occurring loads and their characteristics. The thesis shows that it’s possible to standardize some components in the low-voltageswitchgear. However, this report doesn’t take into consideration any possible increase oftotal size and cost. It also shows the most frequent sizes of the circuit breakers for each ofthe common loads. The standard proposition for the common loads was developed to cover all the occurringsizes of the circuit breakers in the stations. For the converter transformers coolingequipment there’s two different cubicles to choose from, while the remaining loads islimited to a single alternative. An alternative solution could be to develop a standard for each occurring station type. However, this would require that the data from a larger number of projects, for all stationtypes, are reviewed and compiled.

Abstract:
Gotland has long been known for various special solutions and been on the leading edge regarding new technology. For the past 20 years Gotland has had a VSC-HVDC station that has stabilized the voltage in the Gotlandic grid. HVDC Light has solved some of the technical limitations that has hindered the growth of wind turbines. The station has almost reached the end of its technical lifespan and the thesis is a first step in the investigation for an eventual replacement. With power quality analyzers performance and improvements were investigated. The Swedish transmission system operator Svenska kraftnät have since 2016 had a VSCHVDC station that have been used to exchange energy to the asynchronous system in Eastern Europe. Svenska kraftnät has of lately wanted to take advantage of the voltage control capabilities and investigate measurement technologies. Power quality analyzers were installed on suitable connection points to investigate the behavior of the station. ELSPEC G4500 power quality analyzers were installed on Nordbalt’s and Gotland’s HVDC Light to measure during the late summer to fall of 2017. The differences between CVT and IVT, and Rogowski coil and CT were captured. The choice of ELSPEC suited well since no trigger conditions are needed which allows small but important errors to be discovered. Gotland’s HVDC Light stabilizes the grid mostly against voltage sags for faults in the 10 kVgrid and flicker from the wind farms in node 2. The rated power for an upgrade should be based on the 10 kV-grid short-circuit power to be developed during the station’s life span. The voltage control should be based on a PI-controller and should be able to transmit full power in 40 ms. Component voltages can be used to produce reactive power on the phases in need. The need against flicker should be based on measurements in the closest center of consumption, 2 miles from node 2. If it’s needed, a separate loop for flicker-control that prevents 1.5 Hz-components based on a point 1.5 mile from node 2 should be implemented. Depending on an upgrade or replacement, the topology can either be “two-level generation 3” or MMC. Many different future scenarios affect HVDC Light’s role and more resources will be required for Gotland’s and HVDC Light’s future. Two behaviors have been observed on Nordbalt where one is slow and the other behavior is fast. The fast behavior was only observed when low impedance faults occurs, that the synchronous generators also handles. Nordbalt can contribute to small voltage variations if it was faster, like the behavior for low impedance faults. A consideration in stability is needed since a faster behavior can lead to stability problems. Since the data between CVT and IVT differed a lot, metrology problems were discovered. Some solutions were discussed, of which RCVT and PQSensor was thoroughly reviewed. Alternative solutions like MoW and mobile units were also presented vaguely. All solutions showed practical difficulties, which complicates the implementation. It is therefore encouraged to test the technologies in a laboratory environment since few studies have been made on these and competing manufactures state different information.

Abstract:
The desire to make our cities cleaner, quieter and more accessible has given the bicycle a higher priority in urban planning in recent years. In order to promote sustainable urban development and encourage people to cycle an increasing number of cities have chosen to set up bike-share systems. During the spring of 2016 the city of Gävle is conducting a pilot study to examine the possibility of introducing a bike-share system. The purpose of this study is therefore to apply a method to optimize the location of bike stations in a bike-share system in Gävle. To achieve this, a GIS-based multi-criteria analysis (MCA) was established. The MCA resulted in a number of sites identified as suitable for the establishment of bike-share stations. Through further analysis and discussion the number of stations was prioritized even further. This resulted in a recommendation of the two most suitable locations for establishment of bike-share stations in Gävle. These places are Södermalm and Rådhustorget.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:

Suen, Kwun-chiu, and 孫冠超. "A study of urban heat island effect using ground-level stationary observation stations in Hong Kong." Thesis, The University of Hong Kong (Pokfulam, Hong Kong), 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10722/194573.

Full text
Abstract:
The Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon in which the urban temperature is higher than that of the non-urban areas. Previous studies from other countries showed that an UHI phenomenon exists in urbanized cities. In Hong Kong, instead of only few study using fixed stationary stations on UHI analysis, past effort have been concentrated on using traverse and remote sensing method to study the UHI. This dissertation therefore describes the annual, seasonal and diurnal UHI variability in Hong Kong based on hourly data of temperatures, wind speed and relative humidity from five selected fixed stations at urban and non-urban areas over the period 2001-2011. UHI intensity is calculated by the temperature difference between the urban and non-urban areas excluding the global warming factors and micro-climatic effects. The results showed that, although there is no significant increasing and decreasing trend in annual UHI variation, the maximum annual UHI intensity is increasing and the nocturnal UHI is proved significantly higher than that its daytime counterpart. The seasonal UHI variation is higher in summer or autumn and winter depends on the choice of non-urban stations due to different geographic settings and land use. The diurnal UHI variation revealed that the strongest UHI intensity was observed in late afternoon or early morning while the weakest one occurred in afternoon. Among the study groups, Hong Kong International Airport experiences the highest UHI intensity. It is probably due to the geographical settings, unique land use and significant anthropogenic heat. On the other hand, in using Ta Kwu Ling as non-urban stations, the wind speed showed a significant negative correlation with UHI intensity while the relative humidity showed a positive one in diurnal UHI variation. The results of the study indicated that the choice of non-urban station poses a significant impact to the UHI intensity calculation especially in seasonal and diurnal variations. Further study on choosing representative non-urban station for UHI intensity calculation is recommended.

Full text
Abstract:
The transition to hydrogen-powered vehicles requires detailed technical and economic analyses of all aspects of hydrogen infrastructure, including refueling stations. The cost of such stations is a major contributor to the delivered cost of hydrogen. Hydrogen refueling stations require not only dispensers to transfer fuel onto a vehicle, but also an array of such ancillary equipment as a cascade charging system, storage vessels, compressors and/or pumps/evaporators. This paper provides detailed information on design requirements for gaseous and liquid hydrogen refueling stations and their associated capital and operating costs, which in turn impact hydrogen selling price at various levels of hydrogen demand. It summarizes an engineering economics approach which captures the effect of variations in station size, seasonal, daily and hourly demand, and alternative dispensing rates and pressures on station cost. Tradeoffs in the capacity of refueling station compressors, storage vessels, and the cascade charging system result in many possible configurations for the station. Total costs can be minimized by optimizing that configuration. Using a methodology to iterate among the costs of compression, storage and cascade charging, it was found that the optimum hourly capacity of the compressor is approximately twice the station’s average hourly demand, and the optimum capacity of the cascade charging system is approximately 15% of the station’s average daily demand. Further, for an hourly demand profile typical of today’s gasoline stations, onsite hydrogen storage equivalent to at least 1/3 of the station’s average daily demand is needed to accommodate peak demand.

Abstract:
The oil or gas station is an important producing unit, building a perimeter security system is an available method for protecting the stations and improving the capacity of dealing with the emergency incident. However, building high walls or fence and patrolling the stations are the main protecting methods, it is difficult to detect invasion immediately. So, it is necessary to construct a stable and reliable perimeter security system to protect the station. Traditional fiber perimeter security technology protects the station by sensing fiber on the fence or wall, but the wind will produce many false alarms. In this paper, a multi-mode sensing cable buried in the ground, systems can not only effectively detect intrusions, but more importantly, avoid false alarms by wind disturbance. Intrusions will produce non-stationary random signals, through the signal processing and recognizing technique, we can identify the invasion and improve the accuracy and stability of the system.

In ASME 2015 Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/pvp2015-45646.

Abstract:
Innovative Method for Installing Pipe Depth Smart Test Stations at Exelon Nuclear Generation Stations to Quantify Corrosion Rates, Evaluate Cathodic Protection Effectiveness, Quantify Corrosion Potentials and Perform Subsurface Soils Analysis to Support Aging Management Plans and Reasonable Assurance Commitments on In-Service Buried and Underground Pipe and Tanks For several decades ANSI and NACE direct assessment (DA) standards for monitoring cathodic protection and coating quality (SP0502) have been relied upon by pipeline operators and regulators to accurately monitor the impact of corrosion on transmission pipelines. These same standards have been proven far less useful when deployed in nuclear power plant subsurface environments. In order to meet regulatory and industry commitments the challenge has been to develop a cost effective method to accurately monitor nuclear plants’ buried pipe. The in-scope pipe is comprised of a dense complex of multiple systems in close proximity at depths sometimes exceeding 30-ft. Most nuclear plants have been in service for over 30 years and rely on original buried pipe systems to perform as designed. These systems are manufactured using various metals, which are bonded together to reduce electrical step and touch potential hazards. Each of these factors reduce the confidence factor of DA, but combined they make the procedure even less effective. Smart Monitoring Test Stations can be installed without excavation at depths of up to forty feet directly into the subject pipeline local environment. This provides access to critical condition and assessment information that was previously unavailable. Smart test stations have been designed with the following components: two Electrical Resistance Probes (ER), two CP coupons and a stationary reference electrode. This paper will describe the planning and obstacles encountered during the installation, operation and interpretation of data from recent experiences related to the installation of test stations at Exelon Nuclear Generating Stations. We will describe the process from planning to successful completion including: • Smart Monitoring Test Station features and function • Value of precise location insertion of probes • Digitizing plant buried and underground pipe and tanks • Smart monitoring test station site location selection • Push probe method to capture soil samples • Analyzing and interpreting soil samples • Evaluating potential impacts from groundwater • Push probe method of installing smart test stations at or near pipe depth • Monitoring data from test stations • Application of information to support AMP and NEI commitments

Abstract:
An intergovernmental agreement on cooperation about chemical weapon destruction was signed between France and the Russian federation on 14th February 2006 in the context of a Global Partnership dedicated to preventing catastrophic terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. It came into effect on 25th April 2007 after ratification by both countries. The present demonstrated project was launched as part of this collaboration on the Shchuchye site (Russia – Kurgan Oblast). The project concerned the environmental surveillance system for the Shchuchye site required for the safe operation of the installation used to destroy chemical weapons. The aim was to implement equipments and methods of analysis for very low concentrations of pollutants in the three environmental compartments: air, water and soil. This has been achieved with the help of industry and other organizations in France (Environment/SA for supplies, INERIS and Antea Group) and Russia (ROST Association and EKROS Engineering). This system takes account of the normal operation of the installation as well as incident management. It includes 11 stationary atmospheric measuring stations constructed by Environment/SA and EKROS Engineering including ASTEK dedicated toxic gas detector: “Terminator FOV-1”, 3 mobile atmospheric measuring stations, 2 mobile soil & water measuring stations, 4 sampling cars constructed by Environment/SA and EKROS Engineering, a complete Chemical analysis laboratory which can handle ppb analysis of toxic gases, organics and minerals pollutants, an information collection center and a meteo station which can retrieve, display and archive all the datas or alarm from the stationary and mobile stations. Antea Group has provided a technical expertise and various negotiations during the negotiation phase, the project initiation files & contracts redaction, the project Monitoring and reporting to stakeholders, the REX. Up to 2009, No other site of the world uses such an innovative system. Antea Group worked on this project for 4 years. It successfully began operating in March 2009, before the start of destruction operations, after 15 months of work on the site.

Abstract:
The impact of a new transport system on the neighbourhoods surrounding the stations: The cases of Bermondsey and West Ham, London Po Nien Chen, Kayvan Karimi Space Syntax Laboratory, The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, UKE-mail: po-nien.chen.16@ucl.ac.uk, k.karimi@ucl.ac.uk Keywords: Space Syntax, Jubilee Line Extension, urban regeneration Conference topics and scale: Tools of analysis in urban morphology The impact of new public transport system on the towns and suburbs has been widely considered to be a significant aspect of urban development. However, the spatial configurations which could stimulate the transformation around the neighbourhoods of the station have not been clearly identified. It could be argued that the implementation of transport systems and the creation of new stations would enhance the mobility of the transport network and the accessibility around the station’s vicinity. Furthermore, the dynamics of pedestrian flow, generated by the new transport system might transform the social, cultural and economic activities around the stations. Therefore, the aims of this study are to analyse how the spatial configuration and the urban formation are affected by the implementation of stations and understand how the new stations emerge in the urban form. The Jubilee Line Extension (JLE) in East London, which started to operate in 2000, plays an essential role in connecting Central London with the recently developed financial district in the east. This study focuses on two stations located along the JLE, Bermondsey and West Ham, which have different topological and demographic characteristics. To determine whether the stations integrate cohesively with the urban environment, this study applies Space Syntax methods of spatial network analysis to evaluate the spatial characteristics and compares with GIS data of the house prices and land use distribution before and after the JLE. The results demonstrate a strong correlation between pedestrian movement and the distribution of residential and commercial activities within the street network structure. The study also reveals the strength and weakness of the stations, which are embedded within urban structures and suggests urban regeneration strategies through improving the accessibility and public space design. Abstract:
In Italy the gas transmission network, more than 23.000 km long, has 21 compressor stations with a total power of 500 MW. Some of the stations are used only for transmission purposes while others can also be used alternately or at the same time to compress gas into storage fields (Fig.1). Italy has one of Western Europe’s biggest gas reserves in storage fields: in fact the working gas used at the moment is about 12 Gm3 and the gas in place is about 24 Gm3. The total compression capacity is about 90 Mm3/d with discharge pressures of up to 150 bar. All the stations are remote controlled with no personnel on site. For this, very reliable station control systems are used to control plant, engines and all the station’s auxiliary equipment. A compressor unit consists of a centrifugal compressor driven by a gas turbine. The heavy duty gas turbines have an output of between 3.7 and 10.4 MW, while the jet derivative turbines have an output of 20.5 MW. The gas compressors have two separate stages (sections) that can be put in series or in parallel according to the required compression ratio and flow. The special configuration of the stations gas piping is designed to match operating requirements. Examples of series/parallel configurations of the compressors and of the gas piping are given with an explanation of the pros and cons.

Abstract:
The Promotion and Practice Handwashing Kit (PPHWK), a robust, user-friendly handwashing station, and Mum’s Magic Hands (MMH), a creative hygiene promotion strategy, were evaluated in a clustered randomized controlled trial in Kyaka II refugee settlement in Uganda. The trial evaluated whether their provision increased handwashing with soap practice among residents, with a focus on three community intervention arms and two school-based intervention arms. The findings outlined in this report suggest that exposure to both the PPHWK and MMH increased hygiene knowledge and handwashing behaviour with soap, and improved health outcomes. Intervention households also preferred the PPHWK over existing handwashing stations, typically a basic bucket with a tap.

Hunter, Margaret, Jijo K. Mathew, Ed Cox, Matthew Blackwell, and Darcy M. Bullock. Estimation of Connected Vehicle Penetration Rate on Indiana Roadways. Purdue University, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.5703/1288284317343.

Full text
Abstract:
Over 400 billion passenger vehicle trajectory waypoints are collected each month in the United States. This data creates many new opportunities for agencies to assess operational characteristics of roadways for more agile management of resources. This study compared traffic counts obtained from 24 Indiana Department of Transportation traffic counts stations with counts derived by the vehicle trajectories during the same periods. These stations were geographically distributed throughout Indiana with 13 locations on interstates and 11 locations on state or US roads. A Wednesday and a Saturday in January, August, and September 2020 are analyzed. The results show that the analyzed interstates had an average penetration of 4.3% with a standard deviation of 1.0. The non-interstate roads had an average penetration of 5.0% with a standard deviation of 1.36. These penetration levels suggest that connected vehicle data can provide a valuable data source for developing scalable roadway performance measures. Since all agencies currently have a highway monitoring system using fixed infrastructure, this paper concludes by recommending agencies integrate a connected vehicle penetration monitoring program into their traditional highway count station program to monitor the growing penetration of connected cars and trucks.
