However, several studies have now found that this OPG variant exhibits extremely poor finite sample behavior and that significant improvements can be made by employing the efficient variant. Abstract:
The results of a survey exploring counselor attitudes toward the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders ( DSM-5) are presented. The survey revealed that counselors have mixed attitudes toward the DSM. They view DSM positively and see it as both beneficial to their profession and important in determining treatment. They also believe that DSM-5 revisions reflect the best science available. Counselors worry that the DSM prioritizes diagnosis over treatment, have concerns about proposed DSM-5 revisions, and support developing alternatives to the DSM.

However, few studies of adults’ statistics anxiety use qualitative method or focus solely on graduate students. Moreover, even less studies focus on comparing adults’ anxiety levels before and after the introductory statistics course. This line of study is important to pursue since the introductory statistics course should play the very important roles of both preparing students’ the foundation knowledge of higher level statistics course, and inspiring students’ interests for higher level c

Less than 30% of the print literature reports the results of empirical studies, but these cover a broad range of topics, including the use of computers in statistics instruction, teaching materials, and teaching strategies. Thirteen articles examining 18 samples were obtained and coded for the analysis. The average effect size was –0.08 standard deviation units favoring females; however, the results were heterogeneous. Although no model accounted for all between-studies variation, gender differences could best be predicted from the percentage of undergraduate students in the sample, the department offering the course, and the use of course grade or points for the outcome mea

Here are some of my thoughts on these and related matters. Statistics is an ancient tool which has been useful in solving problems of interest and understanding the world we live in. Until recently, say 60 years ago, in Latin America there was the wrong perception that statistics was an exoteric field that did not relate well to the needs of our society. Also, it was incorrectly thought that statistics was

We show that the cumulated sum of squares statistic has a standard Brownian bridge–type asymptotic distribution in nonlinear regression models with (possibly) nonstationary regressors. This contrasts with cumulated sum statistics which have been previously studied and whose asymptotic distribution has been shown to depend on the functional form and the stochastic properties, such as persistence and stationarity, of the regressors. A recursive version of the test is also considered. A local power analysis is provided, and through simulations, we show that the test has good size and power proper

Under normality, we obtain higher-order approximations to the distributions of the periodogram and related statistics. Our approach is based on the theorem which decomposes the periodogram into the sum of two independent random variables. It is seen that this decomposition enables us to study fairly closely the higher-order properties of not only the periodogram, but also periodogram-based statistics such as the estimators of the spectrum and prediction error variance. Some of the approximation results are graphically presented together with the exact results based on simulations.
