Abstract:
From the Netherlands, three desmid species are newly described to science: Actinotaenium spinosporum (with zygospores), Staurastrum brachiatoides (with zygospores) and Staurastrum quadriradiatum. In addition to that, zygospores of the rather rare species Staurastrum echinatum are described for the first time. Differences with similar-looking species are discussed.

Staurastrum is a microalgae from the family of Desmidiaceae which is abundant in freshwater. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of Staurastrum and the abundance of the population of Staurastrum in the Sentani Lake Jayapura. The study was conducted in March 2018 in the Sentani Lake Jayapura. The sampling method used was the survey method by sampling water in 6 locations (Kampung Yakonde, Ifale, Hobong, Kalkhote, Ayapo, Puay) on the edge and center of the lake. The results showed that 4 species of Staurastrum on the Sentani Lake were S. arachne, S. diacathum, S. gracile and

Interspecific competition for phosphorus between the blue-green alga Anabaena flos-aquae and the green alga Staurastrum luetkemuelleri was studied in enclosure experiments. Both algal populations increased in number upon introduction of fish, but addition of herbivorous zooplankton led to an increase solely in the Staurastrum population. This could not be attributed to grazing by zooplankton, chemical or physical conditions (light, pH, inorganic carbon), or the total supply or rate of supply of phosphorus. The observed differences were apparently due to the patchy release of phosphorus by the

This thesis deals with six ponds, artificial snall lakes, (Mlýnský, Huťský, Pohořský, Uhlišťský rybník, Zlatá Ktiš a Kapelung) in the Novohradské mountains. They were studied at the interval of years 2004-2006. The basic hydrochemistries and variety of species of planktonic Algae and Cyanobacteria were analysed there. The volume of NH4-N was the highest in Mlýnský pond (20-76 ?g/l), which proves for a recent organic pollution. In other cases the rate was in range of 13-53 ?g/l. The most of NO2-N was again found in Mlýnský pond where its rate reached up to 420 ?g/l. The total amount of t-P was

Abstract:
Unique ecosystems of ombrotrophic mires are of great importance for biodiversity conservation, carbon storage, and water level regulation. Desmids, representing one of the most common groups of peatland phythobenthos, are highly sensitive to changes in these ecosystems and therefore serve as valuable bioindicators. V. Vilkaitis, who studied desmid algae of the Šepeta raised bog in the period 1937–1940, when the bog was still undisturbed, identified 57 species, which, according to the modern classification system, are assigned to two orders, i.e. Zygnematales (9 species) and Desmidiales (48 spe
