For spatial design freedom, steel castings are widely used in bridges, airport terminals, and offshore platforms. To improve the safety and effectiveness of steel castings, a study consisting of experiments and numerical calculations is performed to investigate the effect of pores on the damage and fracture of cast steel. Based on the proposed yield function and element, an efficient nonlinear analysis method for steel frame with trilinear model is proposed. Forging is state of the art for the production of hand tools in industrial scales. Due to high demands on stiffness and fracture toughness high-strength forged steels are used to provide components with high mechanical load capacity. In spite of all advantages forging is restricted by some means like the freedom of scope. However, because of the extreme thermal load and the hardly avoidable casting defects, hand tools are nowadays not cast. However, with the constant drive to prove the technology when maximum strength and stiffness per unit volume becomes the major criteria, the choice of material may overwhelmingly become maraging steel. Abstract:
The inverse solution tests have been performed to the experimental data obtained during the oxidised Armco steel plate cooling by the air nozzle. The three-dimensional numerical model of heat transfer during the plate cooling has been considered. Steel products cooled in the air from high temperatures are covered with the oxide layer having significantly lower conductivity and a different surface structure comparing to the non-oxidised metal surface. The Armco steel has been selected as the experimental material because it oxidised in a similar way to carbon steels but there is no microstructu

MATERIAL PROPERTIES AND LOCAL STABILITY OF WAAM STAINLESS STEEL PLATES WITH DIFFERENT DEPOSITION RATES. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/icass2020.p.244.

Abstract:
Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) has significant potential to produce freeform, but structurally efficient geometries out of stainless steel, for use in the construction industry, however, there is currently no standardisation of the manufacturing parameters used to produce WAAM structures. This paper discusses an experimental programme carried out on WAAM 316L stainless steel plated structures to assess the effects of the deposition rate, which is directly associated with productivity. This programme comprises tensile tests on coupons extracted along different printing directions, geome
