Abstract:
In his fairly recent article in this journal, ‘The Evil-god Challenge – A Response’ (Think 40), Keith Ward attempts to nullify Stephen Law's evil-god challenge by presenting several arguments intended to demonstrate that an omniscient, omnipotent being cannot conceivably be evil. In this article, I critically respond to each of Ward's arguments to reach the conclusion that an omnipotent, omniscient being could indeed be evil. To achieve this, I claim that neither perfect empathy nor rationality entails benevolence, that the desire for suffering is not necessarily pathological, and that human desire for a good god does not entail that god is actually benevolent.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The new Black Conservatism emerges between 1975-1980 and is considered as a unique ideology. Its major representatives are intellectuals (Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele, Glenn Loury, Stephen L. Carter) who are gradually “institutionalized” and integrated into the conservative establishment. Personal initiative, self-help and the contestation of liberal political programs represent the major axes of this ideology. Black neoconservatives greatly rely on the principles of free market economics and reject state interventionism in favor of the African-American community. Their attack on affirmative action is accompanied by attempts at instituting color blind politics. Actions undertaken in order to outlaw preferential treatment granted to minorities and women constitute a carefully organized operation. A well coordinated network of individuals, conservative foundations, organizations and think tanks are connected in this process and dedicate their efforts to advancing a color blind agenda. Ward Connerly, a black businessman from California, leads the movement for the abolition of preferential treatments granted to women and minorities. With the help of conservative institutions, his campaigns against preferential treatment put a ban of affirmative action in the States of California, Washington, Michigan and Nebraska

Abstract:

The causes of the Second World War are well analyzed and are described in several literatures. In this study two classical theories, realism and liberalism, are applied on the causes of war described in Stephan Van Everas book “Causes of War”. This essay aims to examine, if possible, which one of the above mentioned theories that best describes what caused the Second World War.

Presentation of the problem: What are the causes of war from a realistic and liberal perspective, and how can the theories explain the causes of the Second World War?

In order to answer these questions I use a qualitative text analysis. In the essay this method has two purposes. The first is to find out what realism and liberalism describes as causes of war. The second purpose is to find out, on basis of Stephen Van Everas “Causes of War”, what caused the wars during the Second World War.

My conclusion is that states act on a basis of realism when they justify an act of war. This conclusion corresponds with former studies. However, there are also conclusions based on liberalism that describes causes of war between countries. These conclusions constitute collective security and failure of international agreements between states. According to the realist theory, the security of the state versus other states is a possible cause of war.

Abstract:
This chapter reveals how the judiciary succumbed to executive pressure in regard to subsequent drafts of the Judges’ Rules. This occurred in a manner which directly contests the constitutional principle that nothing should be said or done to shake confidence in the good sense and freedom from bias of those who have to administer justice, a principle earlier set out by the Home Office itself. The analysis shows the relevance of contemporaneous occurrences in criminal justice (including, but not limited to, the Sheffield Rhino Whip affair—where police officers assaulted prisoners not suspected of crimes; the Challenor incidents—in which bricks were planted on innocent people; and the Stephen Ward/Christine Keeler/John Profumo scandal—in which the police engaged in dubious arrest, detention, and interrogation practices at the behest of the executive) as it uncovers the constitutional struggle between the executive and the judiciary in which the judges were forced into a climb-down by political threats that went to the heart of British constitutional arrangements and the associated notion of judicial independence.

The stress variations and stress distributions in stepped-lap adhesive joints of dissimilar adherends under impact tensile loadings were analyzed in elastic range using three-dimensional finite element method. The impact loadings were applied to the lower adherend by dropping a weight. The stress distributions in stepped-lap adhesive joints of dissimilar adherends under static tensile loadings were also analyzed using FEM. The effects of Young’s modulus of the adherends, the adhesive thickness and the number of butted steps of adherents ware examined under both impact and static loadings. As the results, The maximum value of stress σ1 increased as Young’s modulus of the adherends increased for the impact loadings. The maximum value of stress σ1 increased as the numbers of steps in the adherends increased for the static loadings. In addition, the experiments to measure the strain response of joints subjected to impact tensile loadings were carried out using strain gauges. A fairly good agreement was found between the numerical and the measured results concerning the strain responses.

Abstract:
In this article considered Journalistic and editorial activity of Volodymyr Lenika (14.06.1922–02.11.2005) – one of the leading figures of Ukrainian emigration in Germany. First outlined basic landmarks of his life and creation. Journalistic and editorial activity of Volodymyr Lenik was during to forty years out of Ukraine. In the conditions of emigration politically zaangazhovani Ukrainians counted on temporality of the stay abroad and prepared to transference of the created charts and instituciy on native lands. It was or by not main part of conception of liberation revolution of elaborate OUN under the direction of Stepan Banderi, and successfully incarnated in post-war years. Volodymyr Lenik, executing responsible commissions Organization, proved on a few directions of activity, which were organically combined with his journalistic and editorial work. As an editor he was promotorom of creation and realization of models of magazines «Avangard», «Krylati», «Znannia», «Freie Presse Korespondenz», newspapers «Shliakh peremogy». As a journalist Volodymyr Lenik left ponderable work, considerable part of which entered in two-volume edition «Ukrainians on strange land, or reporting, from long journeys». Subject of him newspaper-magazine publications directed on illumination of school, youth, student, cultural, scientific problems, organization and activity of emigrant structures, political fight of emigration, to dethronement of the antiukrainskikh Moscow diversions and provocations. Such variety of problematic of works of V. Lenika was directed in the river-bed of retaining of revolutionary temperament in the environment of diaspore, to bringing in of it to activity in public and political life. Problematic of him is systematized publicism and journalistic appearances, which was inferior realization of a few important tasks, namely to the fight for Ukrainian independence in new terms, cherishing and maintainance of national identity, counteraction hostile soviet propaganda. On an example headed Volodymyr Lenikom a magazine «Knowledge» some aspects are exposed him editorial trade.
