Full textThe stethoscope is a major and important part of today's healthcare and diagnostics. Askultation is the medical examination that is used to listen to the body's sounds. By performing auscultations of the heart and lungs, doctors have the ability to detect and diagnose common diseases. The development of electronic stethoscopes is a great advantage since the sounds can then be amplified, recorded and transfered to the doctor at a distance. Biomedical Engineering Research and Development (BE-R \& D) at Norrlands University Hospital has developed and implemented a software system that transmits body sounds remotely. Today, another manufacturer's stethoscope is used with the developed software system. This implies a risk of the product being taken out of use or a risk of having less opportunity for further development of the system. This project provides an insight in how the structures of the digital stethoscopes available today are designed. The report also gives an evaluation of sensors relevant to picking up these body sounds. A prototype is manufactured to provide a basis for how a digital stethoscope can be manufactured. Different comparisons are made using the prototype to evaluate how disturbances can be eliminated and reduced using different materials on the input components. The results indicate that a simple digital stethoscope using a piezoelectric sensor can be manufactured and capture the relevant sounds for interception of the heart's sound. With the prototype produced, you can hear a normal heart sound that is amplified. Other sounds that are not of interest and noise are sufficiently filtered to hear clear strokes.

Genom att använda GPRS kan stetoskopljud överföras över långa avstånd. På så vis kan en patient bli undersökt utan att behöva träffa sin läkare. Den här rapporten förklarar arbetet med att konstruera ett trådlöst stetoskop som använder sig av GPRS. In the area of telemedicine practical methods are wantedfor a doctor to quickly and reliably be able to set a preliminary diagnose. By using GPRS stethoscope sound can be sent over long distances. In that way a patient can be examined without having to meet his or her doctor. This report explains the work of constructing a wireless stethoscope using GPRS.
