Abstract:
Psychological disturbances occur throughout Type1 diabetes, from diagnosis to the experience of late tissue complications. Serious life events may precipitate diabetes onset. All parents of newly diagnosed children report stress. Poor glycaemic control is associated with suboptimal school performance, but children do not consider their own quality of life to be poor. Depression during adolescence is no more common than in the background population. Single parenthood and minority ethnicity are associated with worse glycaemic outcomes. Poor glycaemia associated with poor family functioning can b

Abstract:
In this chapter, focus is shifted from broad conceptualizations of diversity to the perspective that some differences are imbued with social value. Drawing from a rich tradition of stigma theory and research, we explore the intra- and interpersonal experiences of targets of stigma and their interaction partners. We review general theories about stigmatization, the nature of stigmatized attributes, manifestations of stigma, and consequences of stigma for individuals and their organizations. This synthesis guides important avenues for future research.

Abstract:
A long-brewing revolution in how people think about psychological problems has finally reached a tipping point. Extensive scientific evidence now portrays psychological problems as problematic ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving that lie on continuous dimensions from insignificant to severe, with there being no hard line between “normal” and “abnormal.” These dimensions of psychological problems are highly correlated and overlapping. This means that people often experience psychological problems on more than one dimension at the same time. New longitudinal studies, in which the same people
