Abstract:
Stigmas pervade organizational life. A stigma is a discrediting social evaluation that devalues an individual or group. We review research on stigmatized work and stigmatized workers, with a particular emphasis on how people become stigmatized and what they (and others) do about it. To do so, we connect stigma to other concepts in its nomological net and compare multiple models of stigma dynamics. We consider the intertwining nature of stigma and identity/image, how context affects stigma, and how stigma is managed by both the stigmatized and the nonstigmatized. We also offer critiques of key

Significant previous research has focused on how individuals experience stigma when interacting with the public sphere and service agencies; the purpose of this grounded theory study is to explore how formerly incarcerated mothers with histories of substance use experience stigmas from their intimate relationships with family and romantic partners. Although monogamy is the dominant relationship style in the Western world, there are alternative options for non-monogamous relationship dynamics. This paper works to explore how the roots of how monogamy became the dominant structure, the hidden drawbacks of monogamy, how those who assert monogamy to be compulsory hold a stigma against those who partake in other dynamics, and how this stigma can work to oppress. It also explores what those dynamics are, who participates in them, and a myriad of benefits that non-monogamous relationships can have. Overall coming to the conclusion that everyone

Integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into military mental health care significantly enhances therapeutic practices for service members confronting unique psychological challenges. This presentation examines the innovative application of LLMs in psychotherapy, particularly their utility in assisting military psychologists with initial clinical assessments and patient interactions. By training LLMs on military-specific case studies, these models can effectively decipher complex psychological patterns, relational dynamics, and stressors inherent to military life, including combat trauma, rein

In India, a significant number of children live with HIV. Due to a lack of awareness and social stigma, they do not make timely and responsible life decisions around intimacy and HIV status disclosure. In this paper, we share our experience of collaborating with Prayas Health Group (PHG), a prominent Non-Government Organization in Maharashtra (India) that is dedicated to enriching the lives of HIV patients. We used Service Design methods to create a solution that disseminates essential information and enables Adolescents Living with HIV (ALHIV) to make informed life decisions. The solution is

Recent years have seen an increase in mental health challenges, particularly depression and anxiety, exacerbated by barriers such as stigma, cultural differences, and the lack of readily accessible treatment. This paper proposes an AI-driven journaling app as a solution to address these issues by offering personalized, culturally sensitive, and engaging mental health support. The app leverages Natural Language Processing (NLP) and adaptive learning to generate tailored prompts and advice, fostering emotional awareness and self-reflection. Key challenges included interpreting complex emotions a

Abstract:
The design of a modern Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) is described for a test steam injected gas turbine (STIG) unit. The LQR controller is obtained by using the fuel flow rate and the injected steam flow rate as the output parameters. To meet the goal of the shaft speed control, a classical Proportional Differential (PD) controller is compared to the LQR controller design. The control performance of the dynamic response of the STIG plant in the case of rejection of load is evaluated. The results of the computer simulation show a remarkable improvement on the dynamic performance of the STIG

Abstract Innovative in situ X-ray metrologies for package failure analysis (FA) were developed to understand solder thermal interface materials (STIM) package process and failure mechanisms through elevated temperature. Dynamic STIM void formation mechanism and STIM bleeding-out dependency on reflow were observed. It was found that long sit time before STIM liquidus temperature helps to minimize the STIM void formation and fast cooling mitigates the STIM bleed-out risk. Our studies demonstrate that in situ metrologies offer direct guidance to packaging process optimization and accelerate root-

After decades of cyclical peace agreement failures and war in Mindanao, the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in early 2019 brought the best hope for sustainable peace and stability in living memory. But the problems within the BARMM and Mindanao more broadly are immense. A trifecta of stigma, shame, and fear is regularly identified as levers exploited by peace spoilers to not only recruit and mobilize from local communities but obstruct disengagement and reintegration efforts. Abstract:
In July 1997, Population Services International (PSI), at the request of the Zimbabwe National AIDS Coordination Programme, launched a social marketing program for the female condom in Zimbabwe. To avoid stigma associated with condoms and STI prevention, the female condom was marketed as a family planning product or “contraceptive sheath” under the brand name “Care.” It was initially sold through pharmacies and clinics at a heavily subsidized retail price of US $0.24 for two; distribution has since expanded to other urban outlets, including supermarkets and convenience stores.
