Abstract:

U ovom radu autor proučava stilske osobitosti tekstova nastalih na otoku Silbi u razdoblju od 1613. do 1808. godine. Svi tekstovi pripadaju administrativnom funkcinalnom stilu, osim knjižice teološkoga sadržaja (Libar) koji je zasićen govorničkim stilskim izražajnim sredstavima. Autor zaključuje da je stil silbenskihdopreporodnih spomenika uvjetovan svrhom pisanja iz koje proizlaze i stilske osobitosti pojedinoga teksta, a uočeno miješanje različitih stilova unutar istoga zapisa objašnjava time što se podatci u spomenicima nisu bilježili u unaprijed zadane obrasce te su pisari nesvjesno unosili i neka subjektivna zapažanja upravo koja čine ove tekstove osobitim.

Abstract:

Der wissenschaftliche Nachlass des Akademikers István Nyomárkay (1937–2020) umfasst etwa 280 Publikationen. Aufgrund des begrenzten Umfangs fokussiert sich diese Studie auf die Darstellung seiner wichtigsten Monograﬁen.Im Bereich der Sprachkontakte wird die morphologische Integration der Internationalismen in das Sprachsystem der kroatoserbischen / serbokroatischen Schriftsprache in der ersten Monographie (1984) analysiert. Viele der betrachteten Internationalismen, die letztendlich lateinischen Ursprung haben, wurden nicht direkt aus dem Lateinischen übernommen, sondern wurden aus dem Deutschen, Italienischen und Französischen entlehnt. Dieses Buch war derzeit die erste große Synthese in diesem Bereich.Die folgende Monographie (1989) erforscht die Entstehung der neuen Zivilisationswörter der kroatischen Sprache in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Die meisten Ausdrücke wurden aus politischen und kulturellen Gründen nach ungarischen Mustern geprägt. Sie sind teilweise Lehnprägungen, teilweise Neubildungen. Bei ihrer Entstehung wirkten Impulse von ungarischen Vorbildern mit.Auf das Gebiet der Sprachkultur gehört das Buch von 2002. Hier wird der Einﬂuss einer 1779 in Wien veröﬀentlichten deutschen Grammatik auf slowenische, slowakische, kroatische und ungarische Grammatiken analysiert. Obwohl zahlreiche Elemente der deutschen Grammatik übernommen wurden, passten die Autoren andere Befunde in modiﬁzierter Form ihren eigenen Sprachen an.Unter Nyomárkays lexikographischen Werken ragt das sprachhistorische Wörterbuch des Burgenlandkroatischen (1996) hervor. Das 4864 Stichwörter umfassende Wortmaterial stammt ausschließlich aus 64 Quellen. Das Wörterbuch, ein wichtiges Werk für die Sprachgeschichte, dient auch als geeignetes Hilfsmittel zum Lesen alter Texte.Die letzte Monographie (2007) des Autors über die Geschichte der kroatischen bzw. serbischen Sprache gehört in den Bereich der Sprachgeschichte. Es ist die erste Synthese der Geschichte der erwähnten Sprachen auf Ungarisch. Es handelt sich um ein im leserfreundlichen Stil geschriebenes wissenschaftliches Werk, das ungarischen Linguisten und Studierenden gewidmet ist.Es ist sehr wichtig hervorzuheben, dass alle oben betrachteten Bücher auf der Analyse von zahlreichen Quellen beruhen.Academic István Nyomárkay (1937–2020) left a great legacy of his oeuvre, consisting of more than 280 publications. For size limits, this study presents only a few of the most important domains of Professor Nyomárkay’s research, based on some of his books.In the ﬁeld of language contacts, his ﬁrst monograph (1984) examines the integration of international loanwords into the morphological structure of the Croato-Serbian / Serbo-Croatian literary language. These international loanwords, eventually, are of Latin origin. Many of them are not Latin loanwords but they got adopted into the Croato-Serbian literary language by the mediation of the German, Italian, and French languages. This book was the ﬁrst major synthesis in this ﬁeld at that time.The next monograph (1989) examines the formation of the new words in the vocabulary related to Croatian civilization in the second half of the 19th century. Due to political and cultural reasons, the new expressions were created mainly on Hungarian patterns. Some of them are calques, other ones are new word formations inspired by Hungarian.The book published in 2002 pertaining to language-culture research investigates the inﬂuence of a German grammar published in Vienna in 1779 onto the grammars of Slovenian, Slovak, Croatian, and Hungarian. The authors took over many elements of the German grammar and adapted them to their own language each, with some modiﬁcations of several of its statements.From among the lexicographical works of Nyomárkay’s, the historical dictionary of the literary language of the Croatians in Burgenland is an outstanding piece (1996). It contains 4,864 entries, which were taken from 64 resources. Apart from the fact that the dictionary is a work of salient importance from language historical point of view, it also oﬀers considerable help in reading old texts.The last monograph of the author on the history of the Serbian and Croatian languages (2007) pertains to the domain of language history. This is the ﬁrst summary of the history of the aforementioned languages written in Hungarian. It is a piece of scholarly work in an easy to read style, addressing linguists and university students in Hungary.It is very important to point out that each of the books considered above is based on the analysis of numerous sources.

Abstract:

The authors investigate the current state and future prospects of Facebook usage by means of data that they have collected using a survey at an Italian University. The authors show that usage is unaffected by how long users have used Facebook. The authors also examine a number of plausible determinants eventually showing that age, network size, and perceived usefulness all play an important part in explaining usage. Surprisingly, perceived privacy does not.

Abstract:

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide empirical evidence for competing representations of the prevention-appraisal-failure model of quality cost. Design/methodology/approach The authors conduct regression analysis on a secondary data set to reveal relationships among total cost of quality, its components and overall quality performance. Findings Total cost of quality and its failure cost component are significantly lower at higher levels of quality, while the prevention and appraisal cost components are not observed to be significantly higher at higher levels of quality. The authors propose a modification to the modern representation of the prevention-appraisal-failure model. Practical implications In manufacturing, ever higher levels of quality are associated with significantly lower quality cost. Originality/value Using a large, unique data set for secondary analysis, combined with employing a high-level measure for overall quality performance, the authors provide evidence for the aggregate explanatory power of prevalent representations of the prevention-appraisal-failure cost of quality model.

Abstract:

En este artículo se presenta el estudio de la autoría de hombres y mujeres en los trabajos de investigación procedentes de una selección de diez revistas de Arqueología publicadas en España en el último medio siglo. Se analiza el porcentaje de representación de las mujeres en estas revistas de impacto y su evolución a lo largo de ese periodo. También se examina si hay diferencias en la proporción de autoras y autores en función de si se trata de contribuciones de única autoría o coautoría, en la posición de firma y si influye el sexo/género de la primera autoría a la hora de determinar el resto de firmantes, además de abordar las temáticas de estos trabajos y su relación con dicha variable. Los resultados obtenidos ponen de manifiesto que a pesar de la incorporación de las mujeres en los estudios universitarios y en el desempeño profesional de esta materia en los últimos 50 años, los varones siguen siendo autores de la mayoría de los trabajos publicados en estas revistas. El estudio evidencia que la menor presencia de autoras se ha sostenido en el tiempo sin que se observe una progresión hacia una mayor representación de las mujeres en la autoría de estos trabajos.

Abstract:

In his work The Death of the Author (1967), Roland Barthes creates a new definition of authorship, in that the author is not the real originator of meaning in literature, but rather the reader. This questions the influence and responsibility of originators in creative fields in general. This paper applies Barthes's thesis to the profession of architecture. Therefore the role of users is discussed, as well as meaning and language in architecture. With the help of the semiotic work by Umberto Eco and texts by Roman Ingarden and Jonathan Hill, the paper will attempt to show how the sole image of the architect is challenged, but also what makes him/her still recognisable and responsible.

Purpose The influence of electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) information, such as online reviews, on consumers’ decision making is well documented, but it is unclear if online reviews still matter in post-purchase evaluation and behaviours. The purpose of this paper is to examine the extent to which online reviews (aggregate rating (AR) and individual reviews (IR)) influence consumers’ evaluation and post-purchase behaviour by considering the valence congruence of online reviews and consumption experience (CE). Design/methodology/approach Following social comparison theory and relevant literature, the authors conduct an online experiment (pre-test: n=180; main study: n=347). The authors rely on a 2 (CE valence) ×2 (AR valence) ×2 (IR valence) between-subjects design. Findings Congruence/incongruence between the valences of CE, AR and IR affects consumers’ post-purchase evaluation at the emotional, brand and media levels and review-writing behaviour. In comparison to aggregated rating, IR are more important in the post-purchase stage. Similarly, consumers have a higher eWOM-writing intention when there is congruence between the valences of CE, AR and IR. Practical implications The authors demonstrate the importance of service providers continually monitoring their business profiles on review sites to ensure consistency of review information, as these influence consumers’ post-purchase evaluation and behaviours. For this reason, the authors illustrate the utility of why media owners of review sites should support the monitoring process to facilitate the engagement of both businesses and customers. Originality/value The authors break new ground by empirically testing the impact of online review information post-purchase seen through the theoretical lens of social comparison. The approach is novel in breaking down and testing the dimensions of post-purchase evaluation and behavioural intentions in understanding the social comparison elicited by online reviews in the post-purchase phase.

PurposeAs tattoos increase in popularity, questions persist regarding their impact on customer perceptions. To help shed light into this issue, this paper aims to explore the impact of tattooed restaurant servers in the context of service failures. Through the agency and communion theory, the authors propose that a female server with tattoos induces higher levels of negative word of mouth (WOM) intention than her male counterpart. Furthermore, the authors propose that perceived competence mediates this effect.Design/methodology/approachThrough a 2 (tattoos status: yes, no) × 2 (server’s gender: male, female) experimental design, a panel of consumers were exposed to a restaurant service failure scenario with a photograph of a server. Depending on the condition, the server was either a male or female and had (or not) a tattoo on their left arm and neck. The same tattoo design was used for both genders.FindingsThe findings indicate that, in a service failure context, customers’ propensity to generate negative WOM does not differ across tattooed (vs non-tattooed) servers. However, contrary to the expectations of the authors, people tend to react more negatively to a male (vs female) server with tattoos.Originality/valueResearch on tattoos in the customer service context is scant, especially in hospitality. Furthermore, no previous study on tattoos has empirically tested a mediation process explaining differences in customer perceptions. Contrary to previous findings, this study demonstrates that an exposure to male (vs female) tattooed servers increases customers’ propensity to generate negative WOM. In other words, the type of profession coupled with the employees’ gender might influence customer perceptions. Furthermore, as customers’ propensity to generate negative WOM did not increase when served by a tattooed (vs non-tattooed) employee, managers in aesthetic labor industries, such as the foodservice business, can be more accepting of employees with tattoos.

Abstract:

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the inherent problem of Senge’s learning organization, embedded in his seminal work, The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization. The authors contend that such a problem has an enduring quality that leads to a highly problematic state of learning organization, and a radical shift in the understanding is necessary. Design/methodology/approach This paper is based on a critical review of relevant literature in the areas of learning organization. Some of Senge’s own works will also be reviewed. Findings This paper contends that Senge’s project of learning organization is a managerial attempt to remove bureaucracy and, as such, the concept of learning has been displaced from the outset. Hence, the theory of learning organization offers a weak response to the pressing issues such as climate and global warming. While some of Senge’s other works seem to show an awareness of the necessity of new managerial visions, the authors argue that what is required is a scrutiny of the belief that corporations are able to achieve a wider social and ecological goal. Originality/value This paper offers a radical account of Senge’s concept of learning organization, including Senge’s dialogue with Nan Huai-Jin, published in Chinese. The authors question the mysterious state of learning in Senge’s learning organization and offer a possible new account of learning organization.

Abstract:

U ovome radu analiziramo primjere računalnoga nazivlja prikupljene iz hrvatskih sveučilišnih nastavnih materijala izdanih od 2001. do 2015. godine preporučenih studentima na preddiplomskom i diplomskom studiju računarstva na jednome hrvatskom sveučilištu. Prikupljeni korpus uključuje hrvatske prevedenice, samostalne neologizme, ali i one praćene engleskom istovrijednicom, zatim prevedenice engleskih metaforičkih izraza, hibridne izraze bez prijevoda, ortografski, fonološki/fonetski i morfološki prilagođene anglizme i one koji se uklapaju u hrvatski sustav bez prilagodbe, višerječne hrvatske nazive s jednorječnim engleskim i one sa složenom engleskom istovrijednicom. Neki od engleskih izraza u tekstu grafički su istaknuti kurzivom ili masnim slovima, a neki nisu. Cilj analize bio je opisati jezične prakse u nastavnim materijalima, utvrditi kakav je odnos autorâ prema stručnim nazivima iz engleskoga i hrvatskoga jezika u znanstveno-pedagoškome stilu te postoji li nekakav obrazac koji autori slijede pri pisanju nastavnih materijala. Nakon provedene analize primjećujemo nedostatak dosljednosti i sustavnog pristupa u pisanju materijala, odmak od normi hrvatskoga standardnog jezika te pribjegavanje neprilagođenim ili neznatno prilagođenim engleskim nazivima koji često imaju prednost pred hrvatskima. Smatramo da bi planiranje korpusa te bolje upravljanje terminologijom, procesima prilagodbe i integracije u okviru suvremenije jezične politike mogli unijeti stabilnost u znanstveni funkcionalni stil hrvatskoga jezika nužnu njegovim korisnicima.

Abstract:

It is expected that the material ratio of steel for an automobile will decrease rapidly in next decade due to the rise of electric vehicles, and multi-materialization of parts will be promoted consequently. Hence, technologies for dissimilar materials joining have been studied by researchers successfully for recent years. The authors have studied dissimilar materials joining with utilizing friction-stir forming (FSF) approach. The FSF is a friction-stir process invented by Nishihara in 2002. In FSF, a substrate material was put on a die firstly. Next, friction stirring was conducted on the back surface of the material. The material then deformed and filled the cavity of the die due to high pressure and heat caused by the friction stirring. The authors utilized the FSF approach to generate mechanical joints between dissimilar materials. In this presentation, the author introduces various techniques for joining dissimilar materials with employing the FSF.

Abstract:

Backlash, or what are the makers of the new Czech drama afraid of. In November 1989 various theater groups participated in overthrowing the totalitarian regime by improvising discussion forums. After the so-called Velvet Revolution, it was the writer and playwright Václav Havel who became head of state while another playwright, Milan Uhde, became the Minister of Culture and Speaker of the Parliament. Nowadays the Czech theater scene is immensely diversified. We can divide the authors who began writing their dramas after 1989 into two generational groups. On the one hand, there are authors born in 1960–1970, who entered the post-totalitarian times already as mature adults and who at the moment have long experience in their artistic work as playwrights, actors or directors it is quite common that those people write and direct their own work. On the other, there is a younger group which is made of people who were still children during the communist era, and their artistic activity was shaped and took place in most recent years. We are talking about a generation of artists who share a common experience of totalitarianism in childhood and adolescence, as well as the difficult transition between the two systems: communist and capitalist.Backlash neboli čeho se bojí tvůrci nejnovější české dramaturgie. V listopadu 1989 se v České republice divadelní soubory pořádáním improvizovaných diskuzních fór účastnily svržení totalitního režimu. Po tzv. sametové revoluci stanul v čele státu spisovatel a dramaturg Václav Havel a další dramaturg, Milan Uhde, se stal ministrem kultury a předsedou Poslanecké sněmovny. V současnosti je česká divadelní scéna nesmírně rozrůzněná. Jména autorů, kteří začali svá umělecká díla psát po roce 1989, můžeme rozdělit do dvou generačních skupin. Na jedné straně máme autory narozené v letech 1960–1970, kteří do posttotalitních časů vstoupili už jako dospělí lidé a v současnosti za sebou mají většinou dlouholeté zkušenosti v umělecké práci, nebo v roli autorů dramat, herců případně režisérů často se jedná o osoby, které svoje kusy píší a zároveň režírují. Skupinu mladých umělců tvoří lidé divadla, kteří v době komunismu byli ještě dětmi, a jejich umělecká činnost se formuje a připadá na nedávná léta. Je tu řeč o generaci umělců, které spojuje společná zkušenost totalitarismu v dětství a raném mládí a také obtížný přechod mezi dvěma systémy: komunistickým a kapitalistickým.

Abstract:

This contribution focuses on the so-called passing-on problem in actions for repayment of charges levied by Member States in breach of EU law. ‘Passing-on’ occurs when the economic burden of a charge levied from a business is passed on to burden that business’ customers, and possibly even further down the supply chain. The main issues at stake in the passing-on problem are whether actual or possible passing-on should be relevant to the amount repayable, and whether (and against whom) downstream claimants should be able to bring an action in respect of an economic burden passed on to them. Using examples from their home jurisdictions Sweden and Norway, the authors demonstrate that the passing-on problem is a multi-million euro issue which remains governed by diverging national laws, albeit subject to some restrictions developed by the Court of Justice in the absence of EU harmonization. With a view to safeguarding legal certainty, the effective protection of EU law rights, and the elimination of random discrepancies among national rules that are crucial to the proper functioning of the internal market, the authors call for EU harmonization of the legal issues triggered by passing-on. To that end, the authors present two alternative models for harmonization.

Purpose It has recently been suggested that the learning organisation (LO) is dead (Pedler, 2013). The authors make the case here that it is still alive. This paper provides a brief history of LO and organisational learning, follows this with some survey findings, a discussion and an exploration of some related contemporary issues and concludes with an overview and summary of the conclusions. Design/methodology/approach Survey of practitioners. Findings From this small survey, whilst some of the 16 respondents are still excited by the idea, a larger group sees the learning organisation as more of a background concept, performed in ways that might not fit with the aspirations of 20 years ago. Research limitations/implications The authors started with the question: is the LO idea still alive in 2016? No clear answer emerges. Given the variety of the responses, it is difficult to sum them up in a simple way. The yea-sayer will find plenty of evidence for the LO’s continued existence and relevance, but the nay-sayers will also feel at least partly vindicated. What does emerge clearly arise from the mixed messages, are the opportunities for further research. Practical implications This paper calls for further research and suggests useful directions. Social implications LO is still seen as socially useful. Originality/value The paper is based on small empirical sample of practitioners who display multivocality on this concept.

In their recent book,English: The Language of the Vikings, Joseph Embley Emonds and Jan Terje Faarlund attempt to make the case that from its Middle period onwards, English is a North Germanic language, descended from the Norse varieties spoken in Medieval England, rather than a West Germanic language, as traditionally assumed. In this review article we critique Emonds & Faarlund's proposal, focusing particularly on the syntactic evidence that forms the basis of their argumentation. A closer look at a number of constructions for which the authors suggest a Norse origin reveals that the situation is not as they present it: in many cases, the syntactic properties of Old and Middle English are not given careful enough consideration, and/or the chronology of the developments is not compatible with a Norse origin. Moreover, the authors do not engage with the large body of sound changes that constitute the strongest evidence for a West Germanic origin. We conclude that Emonds & Faarlund fail to make a convincing case either for a North Germanic origin or against a West Germanic origin.

The centuries-old near-inseparable human/automobile relationship faces a revolution thanks to artificial intelligence gradually creating new paradigms in terms of personal urban mobility. Still, would we be prepared to relinquish our vehicle control to autonomous systems? The main objective of this work is to elucidate the main elements of the complex relationship between human factors and artificial intelligence in the development and establishment of autonomous vehicles. Thus, this paper adopted a basic methodology with a qualitative approach with an exploratory objective and technical procedures, as well as technical procedures of a documentary and bibliographic nature. Notice that autonomous systems present plausible functioning in controlled environments, even so, in an environment with several variables and an almost infinite possibility of combinations, enforced the occurrence of failures and compromised the structuring of a mental model, based on human factors, applicable to artificial intelligence. That explains the little importance given to human factors in the planning of human/autonomous machine interactions.

A apresentação que o precede, "O Mosaico-Dimitris de Aikaterini Delikonstantinidou" vem dar apoio à tradução, pontuando aspectos relevantes acerca do seu processo e organização em seis itens. Abstract:

Since Lever-Tracy’s call for stronger sociological engagement with climate change in 2008, the number of climate-related contributions to leading sociological journals has increased. Yet, they still represent a small percentage of contributions overall. Reviewing the 37 articles published in eight top-ranked sociology journals until 2018, the authors of the present article identify five main subfields of research: (a) reflections on the role of the social sciences, (b) politics, (c) economy and consumption, (d) media and public perceptions, and (e) global flows. They conclude that the rise in contributions since 2008 indicates that climate change creates some resonance in the disciplinary core of mainstream sociology but that most sociological climate change research is undertaken and published in inter- and transdisciplinary spaces beyond the boundaries of the discipline. Emphasizing that climate change research can provide important epistemic resources for the discipline, the authors argue that sociology would benefit from being more responsive to it.

Abstract:

Imagine hearing someone call a particular dalmatian a “dax.” The meaning of the novel noun dax is ambiguous between the subordinate meaning (dalmatian) and the basic-level meaning (dog). Yet both children and adults successfully learn noun meanings at the intended level of abstraction from similar evidence. Xu and Tenenbaum (2007a) provided an explanation for this apparent puzzle: Learners assume that examples are sampled from the true underlying category (strong sampling), making cases in which there are more observed exemplars more consistent with a subordinate meaning than cases in which there are fewer exemplars (the suspicious-coincidence effect). Authors of more recent work (Spencer, Perone, Smith, & Samuelson, 2011) have questioned the relevance of this finding, however, arguing that the effect occurs only when the examples are presented to the learner simultaneously. Across a series of 12 experiments ( N = 600), we systematically manipulated several experimental parameters that varied across previous studies, and we successfully replicated the findings of both sets of authors. Taken together, our data suggest that the suspicious-coincidence effect in fact is robust to presentation timing of examples but is sensitive to another factor that varied in the Spencer et al. (2011) experiments, namely, trial order. Our work highlights the influence of pragmatics on behavior in experimental tasks.
