Evidence suggests that access to shared cars is stimulating motorized travel. Most members do not own cars, and many appear to be leasing vehicles in lieu of walking and biking. Car-share vehicles are used more for personal business and social-recreational travel than for nondiscretionary, routine travel such as to work or school. This paper examines the role for tax policies in productivity-shock driven economies with catching-up-with-the-Joneses utility functions. The optimal tax policy is shown to affect the economy countercyclically via procyclical taxes, i.e., “cooling down” the economy with higher taxes when it is “overheating” in booms and “stimulating” the economy with lower taxes in recessions to keep consumption up. Thus, models with catching-up-with-the-Joneses utility functions call for traditional Keynesian demand-management policies but for rather unorthodox reasons. (JEL E21, E62, E63)

Credit policy through its influence on demand indirectly affects the inventory policy which is designed to meet that demand; therefore inventory policy is interrelated with the credit policy. Consequently, they must be coordinated and should be determined simultaneously in a systems perspective. In this paper, a mathematical model is developed in a discounted cash flow (DCF) framework to jointly determine inventory and credit policies under two levels of trade credit financing in the presence of stimulating as well as disintegrating effect of credit period on demand. Abstract Background: Between 1987–1997, the demand for allogeneic blood (whole blood and packed RBC) in the US decreased due to concerns about safety of the blood supply1. Paradoxically, these concerns also led to a decrease in the available supply. During this same period, collection of allogeneic blood declined from 13.6 million to 11.9 million units, resulting in a 48% reduction in the margin between available supply and demand.1 Although both supply and demand for blood has since increased, the margin has further declined to only 6.1% in 2004 (allogeneic collection: 14.8 million units; tra

The outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in early 2020 had a great impact on the economy and society, and the service industry, as the economic pillar, was the first to be affected. During the pandemic, the Internet industry played an important role and became an important part of people's lives. Although the epidemic has brought great challenges to the Internet industry, it also shows us the great potential of the Internet in promoting consumption growth. After the epidemic ended, demand stimulated consumption, and the Internet industry promoted economic growth. This paper discusses the demand-d

Public investment has been a cornerstone of Vietnam’s economic strategy, particularly as the country targets a GDP growth rate of 6.5–7% in 2025. This study evaluates the effectiveness of major public investment projects in stimulating aggregate demand and economic growth in Vietnam, while also analyzing barriers to efficient capital disbursement. Using a quantitative approach, we employ an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model to assess the short- and long-term impacts of public investment on economic growth, private investment, and aggregate demand.
