The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method is a method commonly used in benchmarking. The Dynamic Data Envelopment Analysis (DDEA) method was proposed to improve the DEA method in the benchmarking process. The DDEA method proposed can determine the effectiveness of the Decision Making Unit (DMU). The disadvantage of the DDEA model is that it cannot handle problems that involve benchmarking for stochastic data. To improve the DDEA method, the Stochastic Data Envelopment Analysis (SDEA) method is proposed which can be used for benchmarking involving stochastic data. The SDEA method itself has we

Abstract:
Robustness of DEA scale efficiency scores is investigared in the context of non-radial efficency measures. Most efficient scales are identified with DEA's refernce firms instead of traditional clustering techniques. The systematic difference between single- and multi-output technologies as concerns most efficient scales is then examined by comparing applied DEA results. These provide evidence in favor of my proposition, that single-output techniques, like stochastic production function estimation, yield upwardly biased most efficient scales.<br>Series: Department of Economics Working Paper Ser

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is compared to stochastic production function estimation (SPFE) in a noisy setting. The statistic of interest is the average efficiency estimator. Monte-Carlo simulations show that the mean squared error of the DEA-estimator even for considerable noise remains below the MSE of the SPFE analogue. A bootstrapping approach is designed to get some first-step statistical underpinning of this DEA average efficiency estimator. The coverage of the bootstrapping approximation to the distribution of this estimator is shown to be fairly good.<br>Series: Department of Econo

This thesis gives an overall view of measuring efficiencies in the Egyptian textile and apparel industry via stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) and data envelopment analysis (DEA). Differences between the SFA and the DEA can lead to different estimates for some, or all of the units in an analysis. Measuring efficiency through production process, (inputs and outputs), lacking factors affecting supply chain operations and other key factors, such as value-adding capabilities, exchange rates, time, inventory turnover, quality, logistics, etc. can lead to inaccurate measures. About 75% of human food in the 21st century consists of just 12 crops, though specific crops vary among nations. Modern technology has allowed development of innovative food and non-food uses for these commodities. For instance, corn (maize (Zea mays L.)) is produced for many purposes, including food, livestock feed, biofuels, fiber for clothing, etcetera. Scientists project the human population will reach 9.2 billion in next 20 years—an 18% increase from the 2020 population of 7.8 billion—resulting in increased demand for corn and other crops. This thesis gives an overall view of the two most commonly used approaches for measuring the relative efficiencies of organisational units. The two approaches, data envelopment analysis (DEA) and stochastic frontiers (SF), are supposedly estimating the same underlying efficiency values but the natures of the two methods are very different. This can lead to different estimates for some, or all, of the units in an analysis. By identifying the nature of these differences this work shows that it is possible to gain some insight into the nature of the underlying data and to say more confidently whi
