In an urban rail transit line, train services are performed by the rolling stocks that are initially stored at depots. Before the start of the operation period, rolling stocks consecutively leave the depots and run without passengers (deadhead routing) to the origin station of their corresponding first departure train service in an operation day (first train service) using either direct or indirect routes. This paper investigates the rolling stock deadhead routing problem in an urban transit line with multiple circulation plans, depots, and rolling stock types. Given the rolling stock circulat

Traditional parametric stock–recruitment models often poorly fit empirical data, nevertheless they are still the rule in fish stock assessment procedures. Modern large-scale circuit designs have created great demand for fast and high-quality global routing algorithms to resolve the routing congestion at the global level. Rip-up and reroute scheme has been employed by the majority of academic and industrial global routers today, which iteratively resolve the congestion by recreating the routing path based on current congestion. This method is proved to be the most practical routing framework. However, the traditional iterative maze routing technique converges very slowly and easily gets stuck at local optimal solutions. AbstractThe purpose of the Business Model Template (BMT) is to help you turn your idea into a viable project or organization. To illustrate this, two real-life case studies are offered in this chapter. Firstly, the KipCaravan project, which is a mobile home—a caravan—for chickens. It involves low-scale egg production in several locations. Secondly, the Sun at School NSV2 project in the city of Nijmegen. For both projects you will find a step-by-step description of the different routes followed. As you will see, the interpretation of the building blocks is different for every project and there is no best order in which to stack the building blocks. Bear in mind that both projects are still up and running successfully at the time of writing. These examples are shown in simplified versions and with the benefit of hindsight, of course. Perhaps the essence of doing business is having the courage to start without a ready-made recipe.

Abstract:
As the electricity generation is shifting to renewable energy sources (RES), the grid infrastructure faces multiple challenges, such as intermittency and volatility of a wide range RES. A high penetration of renewables requires profound changes to the current energy distribution system. The conventional grid is increasingly becoming a bottleneck for expanding the share of RES because of its rigid architecture, which is built around centralized energy source. We propose a new energy exchange model for a routed energy distribution system, which can perform electricity routing based on smart routing algorithms and presented protocols. We utilize a concept of an energy router device that controls energy flows and utilizes protocols stack to smartly route the energy between houses in the grid. This paper describes current results with experimental network of Maui village with multiple houses interconnected through energy routers.

Abstract:
This chapter revisits the findings of Battalio, Corwin, and Jennings (2016), who used public order routing data to examine the order routing of several large retail brokerages in 4Q2012. They found that brokerages generally employed one of two order routing strategies: they appeared either to route all customer orders in a given stock to a market maker (wholesaler), or to route marketable orders to wholesalers and nonmarketable orders to exchanges that offer relatively large liquidity rebates. Importantly, the researchers also provided empirical evidence suggesting that routing orders in a manner that maximizes order flow payments can result in diminished execution quality. This chapter examines the extent to which retail broker order routing decisions and patterns have changed since 2012. It finds that despite increased public and regulatory scrutiny, the practice of routing retail orders to maximize order flow payments remains pervasive.

Abstract.—In the past decade, advances in our understanding of Paddlefish Polyodon spathula life history have provided additional insight into the information needed for sustainable harvest management of this long-lived species. Recovery of known-age fish in some stocks has enabled stock assessment biologists and managers to not only validate ages of individual fish, but to begin to validate the life histories. A framework for potentially recruited Paddlefish life history can be broken into five stages: 1) immature, 2) maturing, 3) somatic growth and reproduction, 4) prime reproduction, and 5) senescence to death. These stages involve measurable changes in growth in length and weight, gonadosomatic index (GSI), gonadal fat storage (GFBs), reproductive periodicity, natural mortality rates, and, in some cases, fish migrations. Stages 2–5 are typically initiated at younger ages for males than for females. Metabolic demands on Paddlefish result in them progressing through these life history stages more rapidly in southern stocks, inhabiting warmer waters, than in northern ones, inhabiting colder waters. Lifespans in most northerly stocks tend to be 2–3 times longer than for southern stocks. Natural mortality is also typically lower in northern stocks. These differences necessitate fundamentally different harvest management strategies among stocks. Regardless of the stock, however, in the prime reproduction stage, somatic growth is slow or negative, as energy is routed more strongly into reproduction, GSI is at a maximum, the period of gonadal recrudescence (i.e., spawning interval) is minimized, and GFBs are largely or completely depleted in females. Consistent with recommendations for other long-lived freshwater and marine species, harvest management strategies should be specifically planned to retain some older, prime spawning females in the population. In addition, sporadic or episodic recruitment in many stocks makes steady-state harvest models unrealistic, necessitating that harvest be appropriately matched to recruitment rates or events.

Abstract:
The inventory routing problem (IRP), which is NP-hard, tackles the combination of inventory management and transportation optimization in supply chains. It seeks a minimum-cost schedule which utilizes a single vehicle to perform deliveries in multiple periods, so that no customer runs out of stock. Specifically, the solution of IRP can be represented as how many products should be delivered to which customer during each period, as well as the route in each period. We propose a two-stage matheuristic (TSMH) algorithm to solve the IRP. The first stage optimizes the overall schedule and generates

Abstract:
[Extract from Executive Summary] This project, aimed at the development of a novel, automated mechanism for the collection of scallop stock data was a sub-part of the Scottish Inshore Fisheries Integrated Data Systems (SIFIDS) project. The project reviewed the state-of-the-art remote sensing (geophysical and camera-based) technologies available from industry and compared these to inexpensive, off-the -shelf equipment. Sea trials were conducted on scallop dredge sites and also hand-dived scallop sites. Data was analysed manually, and tests conducted with automated processing methods. It was con

Abstract:
The idea that large numbers of young people in sub-Saharan Africa are stuck in waithood – trapped between childhood and adulthood – dominates international development policy discourse. The belief is that because there are no jobs, young people cannot attain social markers of adulthood. Waithood has proved itself to be a very attractive way to frame debates and promote youth employment interventions. But research challenges two aspects of the waithood story: that young people are inactive; and that work is the only route into adulthood. Caution and nuance are required to prevent waithood becom
