Abstract:
A clinical trial was carried out to investigate the effect of Anchovy of Stolephorus baganensis on mutans streptococci inhibiting the growth of the salivary mutans streptococci for a period of one week consumption. Before enrolled in the study, respondents filled out and signed the informed consent. Twenty respondents participated as the subjects on the clinical trial, conducting two times of treatment as follows: twenty astreatment groups before and after consuming anchovy of Stolephorus baganensis and the twenty subjects as control groups before and after consuming non-anchovy of Stolephorus baganensis. Saliva samples werecollected before and after consuming anchovy of Stolephorus baganensis and with a non-anchovy of Stolephorus baganensis. A serial dilution was made, followed by inoculating on TYS20B medium). Data which were obtained from colony forming units of salivary mutans streptococci grew on the TYS20B medium before and after consuming anchovy of Stolephorus baganensis were analyzed in a descriptive and “t” test. Results showed that there was no significance in the average amount of Streptococcus mutans colonies between before and after consuming non-anchovy of Stolephorus baganensis. However, a significant difference wasfound respectively as results before and after consuming anchovy of Stolephorus baganensis. We concluded that Anchovy of Stolephorus baganensis has antimicrobial activity against local strains of Streptococcus mutans isolated from human harboring species. Therefore in a long term of consuming Anchovy fish of Stolephorus baganensis, caries can be prevented.

Abstract:
Eighteen and 23 specimens of two species of the poorly known anchovies Stolephorus grandis Hata & Motomura, 2021b and Stolephorus waitei Jordan & Seale, 1926 (Clupeiformes: Engraulidae), respectively, are examined. This study presents their detailed morphological characters including fresh colorations along with their precise distributional ranges within the Sahul Shelf coastal region. The “barcode” regions of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene were examined in four specimens of S. waitei and one specimen of S. grandis. Both species diverged by 10.6% and > 10.3% mean (uncorrected) genetic distances from each other and from any other species of Stolephorus, respectively. Stolephorus waitei, S. grandis, and Stolephorus nelsoni Wongratana, 1987 form a monophyletic group of species endemic to the Sahul Shelf region. Additionally, the role and evolution of double lines on the dorsum observed in several species of Stolephorus, including S. grandis, are discussed.

Abstract:
Examination of numerous specimens characterised by predorsal scute, long maxilla, indented preopercle and pelvic scute lacking a spine and previously identified as Stolephorus bengalensis (Dutt & Babu Rao, 1959) or Stolephorus insularis Hardenberg, 1933, revealed four distinct species, true S. bengalensis (distributed from the Bay of Bengal to Pakistan) and three new species, viz., Stolephorus eldoradosp. nov. (Taiwan to Java, Indonesia), Stolephorus diabolussp. nov. (Strait of Malacca, from Penang , Malaysia, to Singapore) and Stolephorus eclipsissp. nov. (Bintan Island, Riau Archipelago, Indonesia). Characters separating the four species include numbers of gill rakers on each gill arch and vertebrae and pelvic fin and dorsal-fin ray lengths. Two molecular markers (mitochondrial cytochrome b and cytochrome oxidase I genes) demonstrated the distinction of three of the species examined morphologically and enabled a reconstruction of their phylogenetic relationships. Each species was genetically divergent from the others by 3.5%–7.7% mean uncorrected distance in the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I gene.

Abstract:
This study, conducted in Kragan District, investigated the prevalence of microplastics in Stolephorus sp. and their occurrence in the breast milk of stunted infants. Microplastics, emerging as a global oceanic pollutant, pose significant challenges due to their small size and potential impacts on marine and human health. The study focused on their possible transfer to infants via breast milk, raising concerns about associated health risks, including toxicity and infection. Stunting, a critical health issue affecting 14% of Rembang Regency's population, provided the backdrop for this research. The study included all Stolephorus Sp. Sold in Kragan Subdistrict and collected breast milk samples from 11 stunted infants. Employing a descriptive quantitative approach with a case study design, the researchers utilized total sampling based on predefined criteria. Analysis revealed microplastics in both Stolephorus Sp. and breast milk, predominantly as fibers and filaments in black and blue colors. Particle sizes varied widely, with Stolephorus sp. containing 1.00–2.13 particles per specimen and breast milk containing 0.20–3.00 per milliliter. The study identified a correlation between microplastic abundance in Stolephorus sp. and its presence in breast milk among stunted infants. However, no correlation was found between Stolephorus sp. Consumption frequency and microplastic levels in breast milk. These findings underscore the potential pathways of microplastic exposure to infants and highlight the need for further investigation into their health impacts, particularly among vulnerable populations. Future research should continue exploring these dynamics to understand better and mitigate the risks associated with microplastic contamination in food chains and human health.

Abstract:
The new anchovy Stolephorus babarani n. sp. is described on the basis of 26 specimens collected from Panay Island, central Philippines. The new species closely resembles Stolephorus bataviensis Hardenberg 1933 and Stolephorus baweanensis Hardenberg 1933, all these species having a long upper jaw (posterior tip extending beyond posterior margin of preopercle), and numerous dusky spots on the suborbital area (in adults), snout and lower jaw tip. However, the new species differs from S. bataviensis by usually having the posterior tip of the depressed pelvic fin not reaching to vertical through the dorsal-fin origin (vs. extending beyond vertical through dorsal-fin origin), a shorter head (23.9–25.5% of standard length vs. 25.3–28.0%), and a greater distance between the dorsal-fin origin and pectoral-fin insertion (D–P1; 133.9–151.8% of head length vs. 109.9–136.3%). Stolephorus babarani is distinguished from S. baweanensis by having a shorter snout (3.6–3.9% of standard length vs. 3.8–4.6%). Moreover, the new species can be distinguished from S. bataviensis and S. baweanensis by higher gill raker counts on the first and second gill arches (16–18 + 21–23 and 10–13 + 18–21, respectively, vs. 14–17 + 19–22 and 9–12 + 17–20 in S. bataviensis and 14–17 + 19–22 and 9–12 + 17–21 in S. baweanensis). Stolephorus babarani is separated by 5.3% and 10.7% mean p-distances in the mitochondrial COI from S. baweanensis and S. bataviensis, respectively.

Abstract:
The utilization of marine fisheries resources gives an important contribution to the economy and health. However, this utilization does not work well due to the complexity of the problems faced regarding technical, social, economic and environmental factors. The one effort to use itis by utilizing anchovy into wet anchovy flour (Stolephorus sp.) in the form of cheese stick snacks that contain enough protein and rich of calcium. This study aims to determine the acceptability of cheese stick with the addition of wet anchovy flour (Stolephorus sp.). This type of research is the pre-experimental with post test group design. The acceptance was assessed based on a hedonic test of 30 panelists. The results of the best acceptance powerare done by food weighing method for intake levels in pre-school children then presented in the form of tables and narratives. The results shows that the highest acceptability of panelists is against the cheese stick with the addition of 10% wet anchovy flour (Stolephorus sp.). The fact also reveals that as many as 80% of the panelists liked the flavor aspect, 70% of the panelists liked the color aspect, 73.33% of the panelists liked the aroma aspect, and 90% of the panelists liked the texture aspect. The results of research on consumer panelists convey that the acceptability of pre-school children with good categories is 53.33%. Therefore, it is recommended in making cheese stick with the addition of wet anchovy flour (Stolephorus sp.) is to use a concentration of 10% because it is preferred from the aspect of color, texture, aroma and taste, and compared with the standard or concentration of 0%.

Abstract:
The scoop net, also known as Sodo', is a type of fishing gear commonly used by fishermen in the waters of Mallusetasi, Barru Regency. Unlike commercial fishing gear, the scoop net is an alternative method of fishing. This study aims to analyze the oceanographic parameters of the fishing area and the composition of the catch obtained using the scoop net in the Mallusetasi waters of Barru Regency. The research was conducted from May to September 2021, using survey methods such as observation, interviews, and documentation. Data on oceanographic parameters of the fishing area, catch composition, gear construction, and operational stages of the scoop net were collected and analyzed using descriptive methods. The findings were then tabulated to facilitate data interpretation. The results of the study showed that the oceanographic parameters in Mallusetasi waters, including temperature, salinity, current velocity, and depth, were suitable for operating the scoop net, particularly for targeting the primary catch of anchovies (Stolephorus Sp.) that can be caught at any time. However, the peak season for catching Medan anchovies (Stolephorus waitei) and Nasi anchovies (Stolephorus commersoni) occurs during the eastern season, specifically in July to August. As for the rebon shrimp (Acetes sp.), the catching season occurs in May.

Abstract:
Background: Dental caries is the most common multifactorial infectious disease worldwide which referes to the process of destruction tooth hard tissue caused by bacterial by-products in the form of acids through carbohydrate fermentation. Lactobacillus acidophilus is one of the main cariogenic bacteria that causes caries by forming biofilms with the help ofglucosyltransferase (GTF) enzymes. Calcium hydroxide has limited antibacterial effects. Nano brown anchovy contains fluor as the active compound which has the potential as an antibacterial alternative agent. Purpose: To explain the inhibition of the combination of nano Stolephorus insularis and calcium hydroxide on the activity of the glucosyltransferase enzyme of Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria. Methods: This study used a combination of nano Stolephorus insularis 3.125% with calcium hydroxide as a treatment and aquades as a control. The GTF enzyme was obtained from the supernatant centrifuged by Lactobacillus acidophilus in BHIB. The activity of the GTF enzyme was considered by calculating the fructose levels using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) in a certain formula. Results: Decreased levels of fructose was obtained in the treatment group. From the results of Mann- Whitney data analysis, there were significant difference in the study groups. Conclusion: the combination of nano Stolephorus insularis with calcium hydroxide is effective to inhibit the glucosyltransferase enzyme activity of Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria.

Abstract:
Anchovy is the main catch and the primary consumption of coastal communities in Indonesia, and its production shows an increase of more than 10% in 2021. Tuban district, in East Java, Indonesia is part of the WPP 712 (Wilayah Pengelolaan Perikanan or Fisheries Management Area) and highly produces anchovies’ fisheries. Anchovy has a small size, making it difficult to identify morphologically. This study aimed to genetically identify anchovy samples obtained from North Java (Tuban) waters. Molecular identification was conducted by utilizing Cytochrome Oxidase Subunit I (COI) gene using jg-HCO and jg-LCO primers. This study observed 12 individual samples with 623 base pair sequence length. Five species were obtained, namely four species of anchovies (Encrasicholina heteroloba, Encrasicholina punctifer, Stolephorus waitei, and Stolephorus insularis) and one species of sardines (Dussumieria elopsoides) with 99.84-100% similarity to NCBI sequences data. Anchovies typically have a streamlined body with a slightly compressed shape. Anchovies have cycloid scales, which are smooth-edged and relatively small, ranging from a few centimeters to around 20 centimeters in length. Some of the genus from the Anchovy group are Encrasicholina and Stolephorus. The phylogenetic tree reconstruction leads into four clades with a genetic distance between clades of 17,9-24,5 %. This research provides methods and data on the genetic diversity of anchovies taxa caught in Tuban, East Java. The findings are expected to support promoting new standards for healthier and more sustainable anchovy stocks in the country. Overall, this study contributes to providing valuable insights for fisheries management and conservation efforts in Indonesia.

Abstract:
The biodiversity of the coastal waters of the Spelman Strait is a potential that needs to be preserved and protected. Anchovy fishing plays an important role in supporting the economy of fishermen's households and the potential area of Central Buton Regency as a coastal area. This research aims to classify anchovy species and the coastal waters of the Spelman Strait as an acceptable habitat for anchovies. This is the first time this assessment has been performed to evaluate the parameters of anchovy fishing in the coastal waters of the Spelman Strait. The findings obtained based on the identification found three forms of anchovy, namely (1) Stolephorus indicus, (2) Stolephorus, sp., and (3) Stelephorus commersonnii. In addition, the water parameters are subject to the appropriate criteria. The distribution of chlorophyll-a is a barometer for anchovy fishermen in the waters of the Spelman Strait to assess the fishing ground and to pick the appropriate fishing gear.
