Abstract:
Is the NFL’s drug-testing policy on medical marijuana out of date? In recent years, the United States has seen a rise in opioid addiction and opioid related deaths. The NFL is not immune from the opioid epidemic, as many current and retired players have addressed the troubled paradigm of needing relief from pain caused by years of playing in the NFL, but the increased risks of opioid use to treat said pain. This article addresses the current NFL policy regarding medical marijuana use and how changing this policy could ultimately benefit the health and safety of the NFL players.

Abstract:
The Stop the Bleed initiative empowers and trains citizens as immediate responders, to recognize and control severe hemorrhage. We sought to determine the retention of short-term knowledge and ability to apply a Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) in 10 nonmedical personnel. A standard “Stop the Bleed” (Bleeding Control) course was taught including CAT application. Posttraining performance was assessed at 30 days using a standardized mannequin with a traumatic below-knee amputation. Technique, time, pitfalls, and feedback were all recorded. No participant had placed a CAT before the initial class. After the initial class, self-report by a Likert scale survey revealed an increased confidence in tourniquet application from 2.4 pretraining to 4.7 posttraining. At 30 days, confidence decreased to 3.4 before testing. Six of 10 were successful at tourniquet placement. Completion time was 77.75 seconds (43–157 seconds). Successful participants reported a confidence level of 4.7 versus those unsuccessful at 3.3. The “Stop the Bleed” initiative teaches lifesaving skills to the public through a short training course. This information regarding the training of nonmedical personnel may assist in strengthening training efforts for the public. Further investigations are needed to characterize skill degradation and retention over time.

Abstract:
During weaving tufting carpet, the improper stop position of tufting machine will result in stop mark, which influences the carpet quality. In this thesis, through theory analysis and experiment research, the influence rule on the stop position of tufting machine to loop yarn tension and to loop-height has been obtained, and a method of eliminating stop mark by stopping machine in high has been put forward. The technology experiment has proved that when it overlaps partly with high position signal, a fixed position of stopping tufting machine in high has been realized by sending out stop instruction and stopping the tufting machine by a brake cylinder, and the best result of eliminating stop mark has achieved.

Full text
Abstract:
This article focuses on the importance of linear time and bounded space to the nation, which must have a past, present and future in a way that occludes other ways of grasping time. It offers a critique of national chronological time and advances an alternative approach to national belonging based on a politics of longing. The article argues that rather than start with the nation-state as a category of analysis, as is the case with methodological nationalism, approaching a sense of belonging to the nation as part of a broader politics of longing offers a more open starting point for exploring the nation’s many manifestations. The politics of longing posits that the nation is but one among many, and by no means a necessary, frame of reference for individuals’ sense of belonging. It encompasses both restorative and reflective nostalgia as possible means of connecting individual narratives of belonging with ancestors and (national) heritage. The advantage of an approach derived from the politics of longing over methodological nationalism – which is understood as taking the nation-state for granted – is that it allows for knitting together narratives of home and belonging in many different ways, both within and outwith the national frame.

Abstract:
The paper considers the implementation of tunable band-stop resonators and filters manufactured on a microstrip with a defective base. The restructuring of the band-stop resonators and filters is proposed to be carried out using varactors and trimmers. Experimental and calculated data on the electrical characteristics of the band-stop resonators and filters in the tuning range are given. According to the comparison of the experimental and calculated tuning characteristics of the amplitude-frequency characteristics of the band-stop resonators and filters, it is noted that the notch band for two-and three-cavity filters based on a microstrip with a defective base varies quite strongly in the tuning range. The presented materials allow to carry out a preliminary assessment of the tuning properties of a relatively new class of inexpensive frequency filters and resonators.

Abstract:
This study investigates the production of English initial consonant clusters by Arabic L1 learners of English and speakers of the Broad Jamaican Creole. The clusters Stop + /r/, /S/ + nasal, /S/ + stop, in addition to the production of vowel-initial words are focused on. It was found out that whereas Arab learners produced initial Stop + /r/ and /S/ + nasal words with epenthesis and /S/ + stop words with prosthesis as well as epenthesis, speakers of the Broad Jamaican Creole produced Stop + /r/ and /S/ + stop clusters according to the RP norm and /S/ + nasal with epenthesis. As for vowel-initial words, both groups resorted to the strategy of onset filling (Itô, 1989). Specifically, Arab learners produced these words with glottal stop /ʔ/ before the initial vowel, whereas the Jamaican informants inserted glottal fricative /h/ in the same position. Furthermore, the performance of the two groups was additionally analyzed in light of Optimality Theory.

Abstract:
A field experiment was carried out in which a pedestrian attempted to cross a busy residential street. Associations of the amount of time a motorist was delayed at a four-way stop and the volume of traffic with the decision whether to stop were assessed. For 190 motorists both delay and volume were significantly related to stopping. The longer the delay at the four-way stop and the greater the volume of traffic, the less likely the pedestrian was to elicit a stop. Regression analysis showed that delay was a better predictor of motorists' stopping. These findings are consistent with Pilliavin's costs/benefits theory of helping behavior.

Abstract:
From the point of view of the R-parity breaking supersymmetric model, we propose a scalar top (stop) search with longitudinally polarized electron [Formula: see text] and positron [Formula: see text] beams which will soon be available at the upgraded HERA. Fully polarized e- or e+ beams could produce the stop two times as much as unpolarized beams, while they increase background events due to the process of the standard model by ~ 30% in comparison with unpolarized ones. We show that right-handed e+ beams at HERA is efficient to produce the stop in the model. With 1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity we estimate to reach in the coupling constant λ′131 for masses of the stop in the range 160–400 GeV. We can set a 95% confidence level exclusion limit for λ′131 > 0.01–0.05 in the stop mass range of 240–280 GeV if no signal of the stop is observed. We also point out that y(= Q2/sx) distributions of e+ coming from the stop shows different behavior from those of the standard model.

Abstract:
Friction buffer stops are the favoured construction of buffer stop, mainly due to its high resistance and variety of layout. Last but not least is its manner of deceleration induced upon impact and during the braking what makes it smart solution in railway transport safety. The general approach of designing buffer stops is via usage of the kinetic energy and its conversion into work. Paper describes input parameters such as train velocity or buffer stop vicinity which is expressed by the safety coefficient implanted within the calculation. Furthermore, the paper shows the principle of calculation the friction buffer stop work, or to be more precise, the work of its braking jaws and optionally the work of additional braking jaws located behind the buffer stop. Last section of the paper is focused on the examples of designing friction buffer stops, points out the main complications and shows the charts of relation amongst braking distance, kinetic energy and braking force and the charts of relation between deceleration rate and braking distance.

Abstract:
In order to better our understanding of the Wu “voiced stops”, we carried out a cross-language study of oral closure duration at word-initial position. In addition to Wu, three languages which are representative in the study of stop consonants—Hindi, Korean and English—are investigated. From the results of the analyses presented in this paper, it is shown that oral closure duration as a function of articulation is significant in distinguishing different stop categories. Thus, it is suggested that tenseness of oral gesture as reflected by closure duration should be used as a primary distinction in the classification of the Wu stop consonants in particular and of stop consonants in general.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The reassignment of stop codons is common among many ciliate species. For example, Tetrahymena species recognize only UGA as a stop codon, while Euplotes species recognize only UAA and UAG as stop codons. Recent studies have shown that domain 1 of the translation termination factor eRF1 mediates stop codon recognition. While it is commonly assumed that changes in domain 1 of ciliate eRF1s are responsible for altered stop codon recognition, this has never been demonstrated in vivo. To carry out such an analysis, we made hybrid proteins that contained eRF1 domain 1 from either Tetrahymena thermophila or Euplotes octocarinatus fused to eRF1 domains 2 and 3 from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We found that the Tetrahymena hybrid eRF1 efficiently terminated at all three stop codons when expressed in yeast cells, indicating that domain 1 is not the sole determinant of stop codon recognition in Tetrahymena species. In contrast, the Euplotes hybrid facilitated efficient translation termination at UAA and UAG codons but not at the UGA codon. Together, these results indicate that while domain 1 facilitates stop codon recognition, other factors can influence this process. Our findings also indicate that these two ciliate species used distinct approaches to diverge from the universal genetic code.

Abstract:
In a bus line with high passenger demand, the stop-skipping operation can benefit both users and operators as well as improve the service level of bus line, but it usually cannot be effectively adopted by operators because of the unordered operation of buses and the discomfort of waiting passenger at stops. Therefore, the stop-skipping operation requires higher reliability for stop serving. This paper proposes a reliable stop-skipping service design with holding strategy by taking into account bus capacity constraints. Under a stop-skipping service, the holding strategy is used to balance the interval of stop serving rather than the headway of buses. Meanwhile, to reflect the actual boarding process of waiting passengers, the number of left-over passengers and the waiting time are calculated during serving time and holding time, respectively. The objective function is to minimize the total costs of bus operation system. Besides, a Genetic Algorithm combined with Monte Carlo Simulation method is defined and implemented to solve the reliability optimization model. Finally, a numerical example based on a bus route in Changchun city is carried out to test the reliability optimization model. Results showed that the reliability optimization strategy can improve the stability of stop service and then save cost of passengers’ travel time.
