Abstract:
<p>The study was undertaken to evaluate the performances of an experimental box and platform, as storage structures for white yam tubers (<em>Dioscorea rotundata </em>Poir.). The criteria used for evaluation were the degree of mass loss during storage, tuber sprouting and rotting during the 20 weeks storageperiod: March - June 2015. Measurements of temperatures and relative humidity of the storage environment were taken three times daily during the period. Mass loss in each tuber was measured weekly while sprouts were removed from tubers weekly. Results show that the average temperature and relative humidity in the experimental box were 29.7 °C and 78.6 % respectively, while for the platform, they were 30.7 °C and 76.5 %., respectively. Rotting was completely absent on tubers in both storage approaches. White yam tubers stored in the box exhibited a cumulative mass loss of 9 %, while on the platform, it was15.0 %. The experimental box performed better in respect to mass loss and nutritional composition.</p>

Abstract The fiberboard box (121×102×124 cm) used to transport and store shelled stock peanuts was compared with an unvented and vented plastic box (121×121×124 cm) for potential condensation during cooling in cold storage (2.5 C and 72% RH) and tempering (20 ± 5 C and 72 ± 20% RH) after removal from cold storage. The boxes held 1000 kg of shelled runner peanuts at about 6.3% w.b. moisture content. In cold storage, the time required for the temperature to change 50% (t50) was 87 and 63% for unvented and vented plastic boxes of the t50 of the fiberboard box, respectively. In the tempering phase, the center peanut temperature began to change after 50 hr in the fiberboard box compared to 19 hr in the vented plastic box. During tempering, the t50 for the unvented and vented plastic boxes were 63 and 36% compared to the fiberboard box. The temperatures in the vented plastic box responded faster to the surrounding conditions and the time for potential condensation to occur in the peanuts was less. These results suggest that a temperature-controlled area for tempering may be needed if the difference between the cold storage and tempering area temperatures is greater than 15 C.

Aiming at the damage of package caused by emergency rescue and other severe transportation environment, a multi-level cushioning packaging storage box is proposed in this paper, the precise instrument is fixed in the box, which achieves the box-instrument integration. At the moment when air-dropped box touches the ground, the impact force is absorbed and cushioned through plastic cork base, rubber absorber, box body, steel wire rope spring, hydraulic damper for five times, which could provide effective cushion protection for the precise instrument which fragility value is not less than 15G. Simulation airdrop tests are performed to the storage box with different cushion levels, and the test shows that the result of five-level cushion method proposed in the paper is the best, and overload values are all within 12G, which could provide enough cushion space for precise instrument to avoid touchdown damage.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper describes an investigation on the storage environment of an Edo period woodblock print collection in terms of volatile organic acid content, using active air sampling and precision gas detector tubes that can measure organic acid emissions in the low microgram range, and evaluates an organic acid mitigation method based on the fan filter unit (FFU) system. Ion-exchange chromatography method was also employed for estimation of acetic and formic acid ratio. Findings revealed an organic acid-concentrated microclimate inside the storage box, nevertheless, the off-gassing rates of the woodblock prints were low, with the exception of a print positioned in the middle of the stack. The acetic acid/formic acid ratio was similar between the storage room environment and inside the storage box, but comparatively higher levels of formic acid were identified in the mulberry paper folder housing the prints. Finally, the FFU system was able to reduce organic acid concentrations inside the storage box for a 5-month observation period, but it did not eliminate the tendency of the storage materials to create organic acid-concentrated microclimates.

Multiple sequence alignment of 5’UTR of SSP genes from accessions of Fagopyrum esculentumrevealed the invariant nature of sequences with the transcription start site at P761and TATA box located -30bp upstream the TSS. Other cis-elements identified in the sequences included the legumin box (-581, -524, -184, -135, -91), the -131 prolamin box, DOF element (-718, -649, -540,-432, -272,-225, -128) and CAAT box (-692, -530, -475, -411, -282, -168, -54). Other elements identified included those involved in abscisic acid signallingviz., ABI3 at P-470,-95,-68,RAV1 at P-694and -543and AGL15 at P-671. A comparative analysis of regulatory elements of SSP gene promoters of distantly related species the presence of five cis-regulatory elements viz. TATA BOX, E-BOX, RY- element, CAAT box and the Endosperm box, which interplay in seed specific SSP gene expression. Other modulators influencing seed specific gene expression detected in the sequences included the ABA-responsive elements ABI3, RAV1 and AGL15 which play an integral role in seed maturation. Identification of potential nucleosome binding sites in SSP gene promoters of Cicer arietinum, Brassica napus, B. campestris, Vicia faba, and Pisum sativumat positions 78, 635, 195, 112 and 152 respectively surmises the spatial fine tuning of SSP gene transcriptional regulation in these species. On the other hand, absence of nucleosome binding sites in the promoters of Fagopyrum esculentum, Zea mays, Avena sativa, Triticum aestivum and Oryza sativamay indicate relatively easier access of transcription factors to the proximal promoter, thereby providing higher level of gene expression.

Abstract:
The influence of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on quality attributes and shelf life performance of ‘Friar’ plums (Prunus salicina) was studied. Plums were stored at 0 °C and 85% relative humidity for a 60-day period in five different box liners (LifeSpan L316, FF-602, FF-504, 2.0% vented area perforated, and Hefty liner) and untreated (control). Flesh firmness, soluble solids concentration, titratable acidity, and pH were unaffected by the box liners. Fruit skin color changes were repressed on plums packed in box liners that modified gas levels and weight loss was reduced by the use of any of the box liners. Plums packed without box liners (bulk-packed) had ≈6% weight loss. High carbon dioxide (CO2) and low oxygen (O2) levels were measured in boxes with MAP box liners (LifeSpan L316, FF-602, and FF-504). Percentage of healthy fruit was unaffected by any of the treatments during the ripening period (shelf life) after 45 days of cold storage. However, after 60 days of cold storage, fruit from the MAP box liners with higher CO2 and lower O2 levels had a higher incidence of chilling injury (CI) symptoms, evident as flesh translucency, gel breakdown, and “off flavor” than fruit from the other treatments. Overall, results indicate that the use of MAP box liners is recommended to improve market life of ‘Friar’ plums up to 45 days cold storage. However, the use of box liners without gas control capability may lead to CI symptoms in fruit cold-stored for longer periods.

Abstract:
The dynamics of a storage pipe is examined using a grey-box model based on on-line measured data. The grey-box modelling approach uses a combination of physically-based and empirical terms in the model formulation. The model provides an on-line state estimate of the overflows, pumping capacities and available storage capacity in the pipe as well as predictions of future states. A linear overflow relation is found, differing significantly from the traditional modelling approach. This is due to complicated overflow structures in a hydraulic sense where the overflow is governed by inertia from the inflow to the overflow structures. The capacity of a pump draining the storage pipe has been estimated for two rain events, revealing that the pump was malfunctioning during the first rain event. The grey-box modelling approach is applicable for automated on-line surveillance and control.

Abstract:
Thermal energy storage is essential to compensate for energy peaks and troughs of renewable energy sources. However, to implement this storage in new or existing industries, robust and accurate component models are required. This work examines the development of a mechanistic grey-box model for a sensible thermal energy storage, a packed-bed regenerator. The mechanistic grey-box model consists of physical relations/equations and uses experimental data to optimize specific parameters of these equations. Using this approach, a basic model and two models with extensions I and II, which vary in their number from Equations (3) to (5) and parameters (3 to 6) to be fitted, are proposed. The three models’ results are analyzed and compared to existing models of the regenerator, a data-driven and a purely physical model. The results show that all developed grey-box models can extrapolate and approximate the physical behavior of the regenerator well. In particular, the extended model II shows excellent performance. While the existing data-driven model lacks robustness and the purely physical model lacks accuracy, the hybrid grey-box models do not show significant disadvantages. Compared to the data-driven and physical model, the grey-box models especially stands out due to their high accuracy, low computational effort, and high robustness.

Abstract:
For many decades, Just-In-Time manufacturing and lean manufacturing have adopted kanban system as a mean to control inventory and production. A number of tagged kanban cards represents inventory of the system, whereas untagged kanban cards equate to production orders. The ideal conditions are a consistent product mixed with a small production lot size and minimum setup time. Such conditions are difficult to obtain even in many automotive assembly lines similar to a case study. The case study assembly line is a glove box assembly production line that assembles two plastic parts and wields them together with a vibration machine after positioning in a mold designed for different products. Because of storage equipment, each kanban card represents 60 identical glove boxes. Therefore, a production engineer re-schedules the production planning to minimize the numbers of changeover without any effect on downstream. This ad hoc production scheduling leads to urgent production orders and interruption of lot size. As a result, the factory embeds historical data into a computer simulation that accounts for current molds, receiving time, and numbers of pending kanban cards, as well as number of storage equipment. The results of this simulation reveals that scheduling criteria and suggest a suitable lot size if the factory decides to change a storage equipment.

Abstract:
Modern containerized distributed systems, such as big data storage and processing stacks or micro-service based applications, are inherently hard to monitor and optimize, as resource usage does not directly match hardware resources due to multiple virtualization layers. For instance, interapplication traffic is an important factor in as it directly indicates how components interact, it has not been possible to accurately monitor it in an application independent way and without severe overhead, thus putting it out of reach of cloud platforms. In this paper we present an efficient black-box monitoring approach for gathering detailed structural information of collaborating processes in a distributed system that can be queried for various purposes, as it includes both information about processes, containers, and hosts, as well as resource usage and amount of data exchanged. The key to achieving high detail and low overhead without custom application instrumentation is to use a kernel-aided event driven strategy. We validate a prototype implementation by applying it to multi-platform microservice deployments, evaluate its performance with micro-benchmarks, and demonstrate its usefulness for container placement in a distributed data storage and processing stack (i.e., Cassandra and Spark).

Abstract:
In this study, the effect of retailing packaging material on tomato quality was investigated. Specifically, non-defective tomato fruits were selected after harvest and packed in four different packaging materials; open market bag, open box, sealed box and Xtend bag. A total of six treatments were prepared by storing the packaged fruits at 4 or 17°C for 10 days. Quality attributes of tomatoes such as calyx freshness, weight loss, fruit firmness, total soluble solids (TSS), colour and physiological damage were assessed. Generally, both packaging material and storage temperature affected the quality of the tomato fruits. The quality of tomato fruits stored at 4oC was generally superior to those stored at 17°C.Calyx of tomato fruits stored in open market bag (stored at 17°C) and open box (stored at 17°C) were very dry after storage compared to the tomato fruits stored at 4°C. Tomato fruits packed in Xtend bag and sealed box were firmer than those packed in open box and open market bag. The carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in sealed box was substantially higher (8.25%) than that in Xtend bag (2.07%). In contrast, the oxygen (O2) concentration in the Xtend bag was higher (18.90%) than that in the sealed box (14.75%). Tomatoes packed in Xtend bag and sealed box had minimal changes in colour intensity (C*), showed lower TSS values compared to tomato fruits packed in other packaging materials. Xtend bag and sealed box seems to be better packaging material for storing tomato fruits for a period of 10 days.

Abstract:
Abstract The average vitamin C content of fresh carrots was 56 mg.kg-1. Amount of vitamin C was reduced by the length of storage and storage environment. On average, the most significant decrease in vitamin C to 24.4 mg.kg-1 under laboratory conditions was reported after 56 days when stored carrots were packed in plastic box. When stored in a refrigerator, the vitamin C content decreased to 24.7 mg.kg-1 after 126 days of storage in a plastic box. During both experimental periods in laboratory conditions, the most vitamin C was preserved while being wrapped plastic wrap. This way of packaging also enabled relatively long-term preservation of freshness in variety called “Komarno”, which was up to 60 days. The second best option in this respect is the packed carrot in microtene bags. The least convenient was to store the carrots open without packaging. In the case of refrigerated storage, the options of packaging in plastic wrap and microtene bags were also the best. The most significant decline in vitamin C was found in the variant without packaging and in the food box. Average soluble solids (refractometry dry matter) content in fresh roots reached 7.6%. During storage under laboratory conditions, the SS values increased to 14.8% after 14 days when the carrot was stored open without packaging. In the refrigerator, the soluble solids content in carrots increased to 12.7% after 28 days of storage without packaging. Increase in soluble solids content was mainly caused by transpiration process. Under laboratory conditions, evaporation and increase of soluble solids were faster compared to the variants stored in the cooler

Abstract:
Cryptographic cloud storage (CCS) is a secure architecture built in the upper layer of a public cloud infrastructure. In the CCS system, a user can define and manage the access control of the data by himself without the help of cloud storage service provider. The ciphertext-policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE) is considered as the critical technology to implement such access control. However, there still exists a large security obstacle to the implementation of CP-ABE in CCS. That is, how to identify the malicious cloud user who illegally shares his private keys with others or applies his keys to construct a decryption device/black-box, and provides the decryption service. Although several CP-ABE schemes with black-box traceability have been proposed to address the problem, most of them are not practical in CCS systems, due to the absence of scalability and expensive computation cost, especially the cost of tracing. Thus, we present a new black-box traceable CP-ABE scheme that is scalable and high efficient. To achieve a much better performance, our work is designed on the prime order bilinear groups that results in a great improvement in the efficiency of group operations, and the cost of tracing is reduced greatly to O ( N ) or O ( 1 ) , where N is the number of users of a system. Furthermore, our scheme is proved secure in a selective standard model. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first such practical and provably secure CP-ABE scheme for CCS, which is black-box traceable.

Abstract:
Abstract Solar box cookers draw attention of many researchers across the globe as a promising renewable energy application for cooking purposes. Compared to other types available in literature, solar box cookers are more in the centre of interest owing to their simple and low-cost design, emerging thermodynamic performance figures, high durability and reliable cooking processes without any risk of burning food. On the other hand, cooking power and overall thermal performance of solar box cookers are still somewhat challenging to compete with the conventional cooking systems for the climatic conditions with low solar radiation potential like the Black Sea Region of Turkey. Within the scope of this research, a novel solar box cooker is devised, fabricated and tested to overcome the said shortcomings of traditional solar box cookers through natural and recycled materials. Double-glazed structure having 16-mm-thick air between two 6-mm-thick thermally resistive clear glasses is considered for aperture glazing with an area of 0.16 m2. The oven area has a depth of 350 mm, and it is entirely painted matte black for maximum solar absorption. The oven body made of stainless steel sheets is encountered by a latent heat storage medium filled by natural beeswax product, waste of propolis. Propolis is a resinous mixture that is used for protection of beehives, from either climatic changes or diseases. Polyphenols rich in balsamic part of the structure is extracted by alcohol than used for many apitherapic purposes. The remaining pulp or waste is not considered. In this study, it is used as green chemistry agents. It is found that water temperature in the cooking pot is kept over 40°C till very late hours as a consequence of latent heat storage. First figure of merit is determined to be 0.08, and the thermal efficiency of the cooker varies from 7.47 to 4.54%.

Abstract:
Thermal energy storage through phase change material has been used for wide applications in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration. The specific use of this thermal storage has been for energy storage during low demand and release of this energy during peak loads with potential to provide energy savings due to this. The principle of latent heat storage using phase change materials (PCMs) can be incorporated into a thermal storage system suitable for using deep freezers. The evaporator is covered with another box which has storage capacity or passage through phase change material. The results revealed that the performance is increased from 3.2 to 3.5 by using PCM.

Abstract:
An optimal box-counting algorithm for estimating the fractal dimension of a nonempty set which changes over time is given. This nonstationary environment is characterized by the insertion of new points into the set and in many cases the deletion of some existing points from the set. In this setting, the issue at hand is to update the box-counting result at appropriate time intervals with low computational cost. The proposed algorithm tackles the dynamic box-counting problem by using computational geometry methods. In particular, we use a sequence of compressed Box Quadtrees to store the data points. This storage permits the fast and efficient application of our box-counting approach to compute what we call the "dynamic fractal dimension". For a nonempty set of points in the d-dimensional space ℝd (for constant d ≥ 1), the time complexity of the proposed algorithm is shown to be O(n log n) while the space complexity is O(n), where n is the number of considered points. In addition, we show that the time complexity of an insertion, or a deletion is O( log n), and that the above time and space complexity is optimal. Experimental results of the proposed approach illustrated on the well-known and widely studied Hénon map are presented.

Abstract:
IDEA is a classic symmetric encryption algorithm proposed in 1991 and widely used in many applications. However, there is little research into white-box IDEA. In traditional white-box implementations of existing block ciphers, S-boxes are always converted into encoded lookup tables. However, the algebraic operations of IDEA without S-boxes, make the implementation not straight forward and challenging. We propose a white-box implementation of IDEA by applying a splitting symmetric encryption method, and verify its security against algebraic analysis and BGE-like attacks. Our white-box implementation requires an average of about 2800 ms to encrypt a 64-bit plaintext, about 60 times more than the original algorithm would take, which is acceptable for practical applications. Its storage requirements are only about 10 MB. To our knowledge, this is the first public white-box IDEA solution, and its design by splitting can be applied to similar algebraic encryption structures.

Abstract:
AbstractIn the UK, most intermediate level radioactive waste is packaged in stainless steel containers. It is important that containers should maintain their integrity for extended periods of storage prior to final disposal. A prototype 4 metre box fabricated from 304S11 stainless steel was monitored at an inland rural building for over twelve years to gain experience in monitoring environmental conditions and corrosion during storage. A wide range of different types of aerosol particles were observed on the surfaces and in the air. They contained corrosive ions such as chloride, as well as other anions such as sulfate and nitrate. The chloride deposition rate was between 0.1 and 4 μg cm−2 yr−1 depending on the orientation and location of the surface, with a chloride/sulfate ratio ranging from ∼0.3–2. The temperature and relative humidity typically ranged from 0–30°C and 40–90%, respectively. The greatest degree of corrosion developed on the base of the box, which had elevated chloride concentrations (10–140 μg cm−2). However, there was little evidence of corrosion propagation on the surface of the box and no evidence of stress corrosion cracking. The average pit propagation rates on a 316L coupon mounted next to the 4 m box were <1 μm yr−1.
