Lo sviluppo di questa ricerca parte da una più generale considerazione della storia del gioiello in Italia nel Novecento, per poi indagare l'attività didattica presso l'Istituto “Pietro Selvatico”, luogo dove si sono formati i diversi orafi protagonisti della “Scuola Orafa” di Padova, dalla sua fondazione fino alla fine degli anni Novanta. Una linea di sperimentazione e di ricerca artistica che si muove all'interno dell'Istituto con la figura del professor Mario Pinton: fu grazie a lui che si sviluppò questa “Scuola” con un linguaggio autonomo e internazionale dove l'arte, la cultura, l'innovazione e la materia si mescolano, si reinventano senza dimenticare il caposaldo principale, quello della tecnica. Gli orafi/artisti presi in analisi per la tesi, costituiscono un corpus di nomi: da Babetto a Corvaja, da Franzin a Marcolongo passando per personalità come Marchetti, Visintin, Zanella e Zorzi; autori che hanno saputo unire con sapiente tecnica e ispirazione artistica linguaggi classici e internazionali, diventando un punto di riferimento per le successive generazioni. Il percorso prosegue poi analizzando parte della collezione orafa e la carriera artistica dei relativi orafi padovani, presenti nella sezione del gioiello contemporaneo conservata a Palazzo Pitti.​

Il 29 maggio 1453, dopo un assedio di circa otto settimane, Costantinopoli fu conquistata dal sultano ottomano Mehmed II. La caduta della città fu un duro colpo per la cristianità occidentale, che non era riuscita a valutare la gravità della sua situazione e aveva mandato, nonostante molte promesse, un aiuto del tutto insufficiente. Le polemiche sui mancati soccorsi coinvolsero principalmente il pontefice Niccolò V, il re di Napoli Alfonso d'Aragona e Venezia. La decadenza dell'impero bizantino era tuttavia cominciata da lungo tempo, era stata accelerata dalle funeste conseguenze della quarta crociata ed era divenuta irreversibile allorché i Turchi, impadronitisi dell'intera Asia Minore, avevano attaccato e sistematicamente occupato i territori bizantini in Grecia e nell'Europa orientale. I sovrani della dinastia paleologa si convinsero che solo da Occidente sarebbe potuto giungere a Bisanzio un soccorso efficace e, per ottenerlo, si rivolsero ai papi, all'imperatore, ai sovrani dei principali stati europei, alle repubbliche e ai principati italiani. Condizione irrinunciabile posta dall'Occidente per l'invio di adeguati soccorsi era l'unione delle Chiese greca e latina, che i Bizantini sostenvano dovesse essere ricercata solo attraverso un concilio ecumenico. Il Papato, dopo la conclusione del Grande Scisma e il ristabilimento dell'unità nella Chiesa romana, dovette affrontare la sfida del movimento conciliare; esso la vinse, grazie anche al successo conseguito nel 1439 a Firenze, dove fu proclamata solennemente l'unione di cattolici e ortodossi. Eugenio IV, dopo una lunga contrapposizione con il concilio di Basilea, aveva trasferito il sinodo in Italia, dove, nella prima metà del Quattrocento, si stava assistendo alla graduale formazione di entità statali territoriali: alcune di esse, le repubbliche di Venezia e Genova in particolare, avevano svolto per secoli un ruolo politico-economico di primo piano nell'Oriente bizantino.
On 29 May 1453, after a siege of some eight weeks, Constantinople fell to the Ottoman sultan, Mehmed II. The fall of the city came as a bitter shock to Western Christendom, which had failed to see its plight and had, in spite of promises, sent it negligible help. Bitter controversies followed, involving mainly pope Nicholas V, the king of Naples, Alfonso of Aragona, and Venice. The long decline of the Byzantine Empire, which had been quickened by the outcome of the fourth crusade, became irreversible as the Turks conquered the whole of Asia Minor and occupied the Byzantine territories of Greece and Eastern Europe. The Palaelogan emperors were persuaded that Byzantium could be saved only by Western help; to obtain it, they addressed popes, the Western emperor, European Kings and Italian states. The main condition for proper aid from the West was the union of Greek and Latin Churches; in Byzantine opinion, however, it might be attained exclusively through an oecumenical council. Papacy, after the vicissitudes of the Great Schism, had to face the challenge of the conciliar movement, which it won thanks to the successful, even if ephemeral, result of the council of Florence as well. There, in July 1439, the union between Catholic and Orthodox Churches was solemnly celebrated. The synod had been moved by pope Eugenius IV, after harsh quarrels with the council of Basel to Italy, where, in the first half of fifteenth century, bigger territorial states were forming. Some of them had been long time playing an important political and economical part in the Byzantine East.

Abstract:
Il contributo presenta le iniziative maturate all’interno del Dipartimento di Lettere e Filosofia dell’Università di Firenze in occasione del settimo centenario della morte di Dante. In particolare si sofferma su due iniziative: dapprima l’ampio ciclo di conferenze Dante e i poeti italiani del Novecento, dedicato al vario rapporto intrattenuto da venti poetesse e poeti del secolo scorso con la poesia dell’Alighieri; quindi la mostra Onorevole e antico cittadino di Firenze. Il Bargello per Dante, ospitata nelle sale del Museo del Bargello, che ricostruisce le modalità con cui Firenze, pochi anni dopo la morte di Dante, si riappropriò della memoria e della figura del poeta, dando vita a un profondo processo di rielaborazione della memoria: esso culmina con la consacrazione dell’Alighieri dovuta a Giovanni Boccaccio e ha ricadute decisive per la storia della letteratura e della cultura italiana, cioè del modo in cui ancora oggi si guarda a Dante e si legge la Commedia. All’interno di questo percorso di riappropriazione un aspetto rilevante è quello che riguarda le prime traduzioni dai classici latini, che intrattengono con la Commedia un rapporto privilegiato e complesso.

The essay sketches the activity of Abbot Ubertus from San Miniato, who rebuilt the church and worked to promote the monastic complex as a spiritual pole, a cultural centre, and a shelter for poor and pilgrims, condolidating monastic estates in the nearby country of Ripoli, where he acquired properties thenceforward important for monks’ economy and social relationships. During the XIIth century, like many other Florentine religious institutions, San Miniato cooperated in the urbanization, favouring accomodations of people coming from the south of Florentine territory in buildings located along the left Arno riverside.

The paper describes the interesting and widespread phenomenon of genealogic portraiture in Florence by analyzing the case of the Guadagni family and its series of portraits. The series was commissioned during the mid-Seventeenth century by senator Tommaso di Francesco and it was intended to decorate the family House behind the Nunziata thanks to the contributions of many artists. Both in terms of quantity and artistic quality, the Guadagni portrait series represents a precious testimony of this specific portraiture genre, which started during the middle of the sixteenth century and reached its climax during the following century. This genre saw its decline in the 1700s, when the aristocratic ancient families lost their importance, and their illustrious ancestors’ portraits became simple relics of a remote past.

The essay focuses on a documentary corpus that belonged to the San Miniato archive: the papers of Banco di Francesco Botticini, which came to the monastery at the beginning of the 15th century. Botticini’s legacy can be reconstructed in about fifty parchments (represented here in an Appendix as register or excerpt), and offers interesting evidence on the Boccaccio’s family, linked to Banco Botticini by neighborhood relations and common acquaintances. Eleven ‘Olivetan parchments’ bear references to Boccaccio and are able to show different but still close relationships: from the sincere ones with messer Giovanni to the stormy with his brother, Iacopo, up to the long-lasting bond with the Iacopo’s sons, heirs of Boccaccio, who remained in the legal guardianship of Banco Botticini for many years.

Between 1843 and 1845 Pope Gregory XVI entrusted the two Tuscan Olivetan monasteries, Monte Oliveto Maggiore in the Sienese area and San Bartolomeo in Florence, to the jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Florence Ferdinando Minucci with the task of conducting an apostolical visit. At the same time, the Tuscan government, following the legislation of Pietro Leopoldo, instructed the Archbishop himself to conduct a visit to the same monasteries in the name and on behalf of the State. The essay analyses the story by cross-examining the ecclesiastical sources with those of the Government. An episode emerges that testifies to the persistence of dynamics typical of the ancient regime regarding the relations between State and Church in the context of the Restoration age.

As conventional cadastral maps only show building perimeters, they contain no information about the city’s internal structure—about the complex interplay of architecture and its socio-economical use. Thus urban planning seems to spare little thought for what really takes place inside the buildings lining a street, although we perfectly know that the potentials of ground floor use and the structure of the correlating public street space are directly related. The Urban Parterre Modelling UPM-method refers to the city’s “parterre” as a holistic urban system: it covers both built-up and non-built-up areas. Thus street, ground floor and courtyard are treated as entity, so that their interrelations can come to light. Technically the method represents the merging of a common 3D-city-model and a Comprehensive Ground Plan Survey CGPS—a researching technique used in the 1960s until the 1990s (mostly in Italy and Switzerland). This new urban research method has been developed and tested in a pilot study by means of an in depth exploration of an exemplary historical street in Vienna. In September 2015 a new four years research program was financed by the Austrian Science Fund (Austria's central funding organization for basic research, FWF) and launched at the Department of Urban Design at Vienna University of Technology. Within this operational framework a variety of different street-level environments in Vienna are being examined. Given this perspective the paper is therefore addressing the following issues: How was the Viennese ground level originally used? Which urban functions were located there? What are the (historical) interrelations between public space and the life inside buildings? E-mail: alessandrocamiz@gau.edu.tr Keywords (3-5): urban tissues, urban morphology, urban routes, theory, history Conference topics and scale: Tools of analysis in urban morphology Recent urban morphology studies consider urban tissues as living organisms changing in time (Strappa, Carlotti, Camiz, 2016), following this assumption the theory should examine more analytically what Muratori called ‘medievalisation’ (Muratori, 1959), a term describing some of the transformations of urban routes happened in the middle ages. The paper considers the diachronic deformation of routes, and other multi-scalar occurrences of the attraction phenomena (Charalambous, Geddes, 2015), introducing the notion of attractors and repellers. Archaeological studies already do consider attractors and repellers as a tool to interpret some territorial transformations, following the assumption that “the trajectory that a system follows through time is the result of a continuous dynamic interaction between that system and the multiple 'attractors' in its environment” (Renfrew, Bahn, 2013, p. 184). There are different elements that can act as attractors in an urban environment, such as bridges, city walls, city gates, water systems, markets, special buildings, and it is possible to consider each of these anthropic attractors as equivalent to a morphological attractor at the geographical scale. We can even interpret the ridge-top theory (Caniggia, 1976) as the result of attraction and repellence of geographic features on anthropic routes. The territorial scale analysis is the methodological base of the theory, but the attractors herein considered operate at the urban scale, deviating locally across time from a rectilinear trajectory and defining a specific urban fabric. The research interprets and reads the effects of attractors on urban routes and fabrics as a method for the reconstruction of Nicosia’s medieval city walls, in continuity between the Conzenian approach (Whitehand, 2012) and the Italian School of Urban Morphology (Marzot, 2002).
