Abstract The study compares an annual number of weir overflows calculated using a hydrodynamic model by continuous simulations and a probabilistic model. The weir outflow for a single precipitation event was successfully modelled using logistic regression. Performed numerical experiments showed that the calculated number of weir outflows with the hydrodynamic model falls within confidence intervals of the probabilistic model. This suggests that the model of the logistic regression can be used in practice. The probabilistic simulations revealed that a model with a probabilistic description of a

Scale model tests were used to determine the efficiency relationships for a hydrodynamic separator (Storm KingTM) and a high-side weir overflow. With the help of these relationships optimal dimensions of an improved high-side weir overflow chamber could be found. The steady state efficiency for this improved overflow chamber seems to be comparable to that of a hydrodynamic separator, when both devices are subjected to the same surface load. On the other hand, during real storm events, the storage inside the overflow structure can play an important role. This role is investigated by calculating

The erroneous measurements are identified using statistical tests on the relative gap between the measured and simulated discharged flows. With the rapid growth and competitiveness in the South African apparel retail industry, retailers and marketers face numerous challenges to remain competitive. Contributing to the dynamic nature of this phenomenon is the impulsive nature and individual preferences of consumers when buying apparel, which necessitate retailers to be more responsive towards consumer needs and preferences in order to attract potential, and retain existing, customers. This can be done by formulating a retail strategy that will enrich consumers' total retail experience. When developing a total retail experience, all

Abstract:
The 2003 horror short story collection, Shadows over Baker Street partakes of the Weird tradition of revising the history of human civilisation whilst also producing a secret history of the fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes. The stories pit Conan Doyle’s master of rational enquiry against Lovecraft’s terrifying monsters. The contest is unsettling. Typically, detective fiction shores up faith in rational enquiry, whilst the Weird disrupts enlightenment narratives, suggesting that everything we know about the world is wrong. Shadows over Baker Street encourages the reader to surrender disbelief entirely in the face of the ‘ineluctability of the Weird.’ This surrender manifests a postmillennial structure of feeling towards epistemological uncertainty. Shadows over Baker Street is an example of how the Weird challenges rational, inductive reasoning and epistemological certainty, ushering in an era of belief - in the unbelievable.

This chapter argues that Homer's originarity—the fact that he precedes even the beginnings of historiography—is what attracts the attention of both Arendt and Weil in relation to the event that he translates into verse. The event narrated in the Iliad is understood by both Arendt and Weil as what “comes before.” It is this inaugural character that obliges that they both address its phenomenology, meaning, and effect. This inaugural character is not only at the origin; it is the origin of our story. It is the origin of our story at least to the extent that it has assumed a truly political dimension. The event, in other words, opens up the time of politics and inevitably predetermines it. It is this bond between origin and politics—the political destiny of the origin but also the constitutive originarity of politics—that captures the attention of both thinkers, who had already made the polis the primary concern of their reflection.

Abstract:
Connected to the nano-technological development, solid-liquid interfaces have been used to dissipate surface energies, in systems where the solid is liquid-repellent. Such interfaces are able to store, release or transform the mechanical energy. For instance, some modified silicas and zeolites in association with water have been used to build efficient ecological dampers and springs. Regarding this attractive kind of storage and loss of energy, some practical aspects, such as the endurance limits need to be clarified, and measures to augment the nano-damping durability to values required by us

Abstract:
A new, through-the-bit, ultra-slim wireline borehole-imaging tool for use in oil-based mud provides photorealistic images. The imager is designed to be conveyed through drill-pipe. At the desired well section, it exits the drill pipe through a portal drill bit and starts the logging. Field test measurements in several horizontal, unconventional wells in North America show images of fine detail with a large amount of geological information and high value for well development. A relatively new solution for conveying tools to the deepest point of a high angle or horizontal wells uses a drill bit
