Abstract The study compares an annual number of weir overflows calculated using a hydrodynamic model by continuous simulations and a probabilistic model. The weir outflow for a single precipitation event was successfully modelled using logistic regression. Performed numerical experiments showed that the calculated number of weir outflows with the hydrodynamic model falls within confidence intervals of the probabilistic model. This suggests that the model of the logistic regression can be used in practice. The probabilistic simulations revealed that a model with a probabilistic description of a

The steady state efficiency for this improved overflow chamber seems to be comparable to that of a hydrodynamic separator, when both devices are subjected to the same surface load. On the other hand, during real storm events, the storage inside the overflow structure can play an important role. This role is investigated by calculating

Abstract:
We examine two phenomena which, with the exception of Bogal-Allbritten & Weir (2017), have not been systematically studied together but are clearly related: (a) epistemic adverbs in ad-nominal positions modifying a DP outside of coordination and (b) epistemic adverbs modifying a DP within a coordination of DPs (Collins conjunction). Ad-nominal adverbs outside of coordinate structures have been claimed to have a strong reading giving rise to an existential entailment ("John visited maybe England" entails that John visited some place, and that place might have been England) while in Collins

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to discover user-generated visual merchandising (VM) directives that could guide VM in physical stores as well as shed light on future development of customizable virtual stores for online retailing. Design/methodology/approach – Applying a facet theory approach, our research involved consumers (n=145) in co-designing VM directives in a 3D virtual store in collaboration with target corporation. In total, 67 virtual shops in three product categories, i.e., women’s ready-to-wear, boy’s Cherokee, and men’s swim wear, were content analysed, along with written

The active screen ion sulphurized layer was prepared on the surface of CrMoCu alloy cast iron by using active screen ion sulphurizing technology. Its key composition is FeS. Under epinoc grease lubrication condition, the friction factor and the wear volume of the active screen ion sulphurized layer is 24% and 40% lower than that of the plain surface and close to that of the sulphurized layer, respectively. The active screen ion sulphurized layer has excellent self-lubrication property, and its loose and porous structure tending to store the grease, which make it possess excellent friction redu

The issue of religious dress, specifically female Muslim religious dress, has been the subject of intense controversy within Europe over recent years. In the United Kingdom comments by Jack Straw MP, Leader of the House of Commons and a former Home and Foreign Secretary, that he felt uncomfortable talking to women at his constituency surgery who wore the Muslim veil sparked a storm of intense and, at times, acrimonious debate.1 In France the banning of headscarves in State schools has provoked major controversy.2 In the Netherlands the Dutch Parliament voted to ban the burka in public places3

Aiming at the joint flexibility and wear state existing in the process of driving mechanical parts, this paper first proposes a stiffness and position decoupling control method for variable stiffness joints, which realizes the joint position control and the unity of joint compliance. The joint stiffness model was obtained by using the static relationship between the Jacobian matrix and the model, and the nonlinear equations composed of the mechanical model and the stiffness model of the variable stiffness device were solved by the optimization method to realize the nonlinear decoupling of the

AbstractFor over 1500 years the Hua Mulan story has remained a popular source of inspiration for writers of plays, poems, and novels as well as films and television dramas. The sustained interest in Mulan rests in part with her daring cross-dressing and the humour that this challenge to gender norms provokes. This article shows that the various versions of the Mulan story also reveal the gendered nature of a key tension within the Chinese social and moral universe—how individuals manage the competing demands from their families and the central state. The article traces the transformations of h
