Abstract:
The process of listening to an audiobook is usually a rather passive act that does not require an active interaction. If spatial interaction is incorporated into a storytelling scenario, can open. Possibilities of a novel experience which allows an active participation might affect the user-experience. The aim of this paper is to create a portable prototype system based on an embedded hardware platform, allowing listeners to get immersed in an interactive audio storytelling experience enhanced by dynamic binaural audio rendering. For the evaluation of the experience, a short story based on the horror narrative of Stephen King’s Strawberry Springs is adapted and designed in virtual environments. A comparison among three different listening experiences, namely, (i) monophonic (traditional audio story), (ii) static binaural rendering (state-of-the-art audio story), and (iii) our prototype, is conducted. We discuss the quality of the experience based on usability testing, physiological data, emotional assessments, and questionnaires for immersion and spatial presence. Results identify a clear trend for an increase in immersion with our prototype compared to traditional audiobooks, showing also an emphasis on story-specific emotions, i.e., terror and fear.

Abstract:
Abstract This article is about a well-known anonymous folk story in the Malay-Indonesian world, called Hikayat Nabi Bercukur (“The Story of Prophet Shaving”), found in various different languages across the region. The only scholarly conjecture about its origin is based on the copy of a Malay manuscript held in Leiden which has been deliberately blackened and struck through by a reader who stated in the margin that the story is written by a Rāfiḍī and should not be believed. Although earlier scholars mentioned the title or the synopsis of this story in their works and bibliographical catalogues, the question “what is the origin of this story?” remained unanswered. In order to follow up on previous studies and to find an answer, this essay examines numerous original manuscripts and texts in various languages and provides a comparison between the Malay versions and their prototype. Also, to the best of my knowledge, the first edition and English translation of the prototype are presented.

Abstract:
At “The International Congress on Love & Sex with Robots,” love and sex issues related to robots have been discussed. This discussion of robots has applications in nursing care and other. Love and sex are also important themes for narratives. We develop a system to generate stories, and consider a robot that tells stories as one of the applications of story generation. The purpose is to present a prototyping system that generates a new narrative expression based on the theme of “love and sex” by exchanging the concept of character in the input narrative expression with a new concept using our noun concept dictionary. We call the method of collecting nouns based on a certain theme and embedding them in a story to give the story a certain atmosphere “colouring.” This paper is to develop a prototype of a system that uses “colouring” to give a certain atmosphere to a story. We create a prototype and study the issues of the system. In the future, this prototype will serve as a stepping stone to a system that generates narratives based on specific themes. Eventually, we will study the use of robotic interactive psychotherapy, in which the robot converses with humans.

Abstract:
The essay introduces new methods for applied and “story-critical” narratology that are based on the analysis of a crowdsourced corpus in the Dangers of Narrative research project. This analysis suggests that the prototype model of narrative developed by fi rst-wave cognitive narratologists resonates strongly with the popular understanding of what a narrative is and what it can do. Yet, more interestingly, the prototype model also reveals the pitfalls of narrative form in contemporary media. Reliance on individual, unverifi able experience is the most pertinent risk perceived by the informants participating in the crowdsourcing for “dubious” storytelling. The essay also sketches a new theory of viral storytelling spun around the “viral exemplum”, a concept created to describe the viral narrative prototype: a personal “true story” which is given undue representative and normative weight via online sharing.

Abstract:
Though scholars interested in ESL writing pedagogy would like to believe otherwise, most students in high school and college English language courses are not, in fact, required to write academic prose. Rather they are, by and large, asked to write the personal narrative, a genre of prose similar in very fundamental ways to the prototype story. The personal narrative is a challenge because, like the prototype story, it is more than a mere report of events in past time. It is a report of events in past time infused with, what has been identified as the defining component of the story, the evaluative component. The evaluative component enables the writer to represent the dissimilar impact of successive narrative events to the developing theme. In this paper, I will address one significant means of signaling the dissimilar impact of successive narrative events, and the problems learners have with its proper use. In the prototype personal narrative/ story, the temporal movement effected by successive narrative events is not the same. There is non-uniformity in the pace and quality, of the temporal movement, from one narrative event to the next. I will provide a description of the sentence-level mode of implementing this particular means of evaluation in the prose of skilled writers, and examine a representative sample of ESL data to show the difficulty learners face with its implementation. This understanding will be used to generate suggestions for pedagogy which specifically address this area of difficulty.

Abstract:
Based on a practical project, the dynamic parameters for a 4-story reinforced concrete frame, with additional different stories of steel frame constructed on its top, are investigated, including vibration period, frequency, and seismic response under minor shock, such as inter-story maximum horizontal displacement, inter-story maximum horizontal displacement angle, inter-story shear force and so on. It reveals that the maximum number of additional stories may be determined by the inter-story maximum horizontal displacement angle. With the additional steal frame adding on the top of the original structure, the maximum horizontal displacement angle often comes into being as the second story from the top of the structure, at the same time, a certain story in the prototype structure may evolve into a weak story which has to be reinforced. However, with the increasing of additional stories, the total shear force in the bottom story decreases, which leads to a new anti-seismic design concept.

As a complex structural system, the work mechanism of base isolation structure is not entirely appropriate for mid-story isolation structure, and the prolonging of structural natural period may not be able to decrease the seismic response of substructure and superstructure simultaneously. In this paper, for a four-story steel frame model, whose prototype first natural period is about 1s without seismic isolation design, the seismic responses and isolation effectiveness of mid-story isolation system with lead rubber bearing are studied experimentally by changing the location of isolation layer. Respectively, the locations of isolation layer are set at bottom of the first story, top of the first story, top of the second story and top of the third story. The results show that mid-story isolation can reduce seismic response in general, and substructure acceleration may be amplified.

Abstract:
Storytelling is a process of conveying series of events and information in words, images, and sound. Conventionally, storytelling developers/writers will apply the linear narrative structure approach to deliver the stories. However, that approach has some limitations; users cannot determine the path to end the story. They have no option to choose how to end the story based on their way of storytelling. Therefore, this study is about applying an Interactive Story Graph Structure (ISGS) approach to storytelling. ISGS approach is a structure used in storytelling in which users can revert their decision when going through the storytelling application implemented during the development. After completing the storytelling prototype development, a survey was conducted to test users’ enjoyment level when using the prototype. The survey was divided into four constructs: expectation, ease of navigation, understanding, and satisfaction. There were 36 respondents, and the data were collected on a random basis. Based on the survey’s result, most users (90.28%) enjoyed the storytelling application. The storytelling prototype was developed using Adobe Animate Creative Cloud and has been distributed among the respondents randomly. The analysis was conducted to determine the findings, limitations, and recommendations for future project improvement based on the results obtained. This study’s outcome is the complete production of storytelling application, which is creative and interactive with ISGS.

Abstract:
AbstractAbraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son, the “binding of Isaac”, already in early Church tradition was discovered as the prototype of the Christian passion story, Abraham figuring as the “type” of God Father, Isaac as the “type” of Christ. The Biblical story which is told in a strongly emotional tone, thus was to find its continuation in a passion story loaded with triggers of emotion. What is less well known is that the story has equally strongly affected the emergence of the third monotheist religion, Islam. Its formative impact on the Qur’anic concepts of sacrifice on the one hand and on the critique of genealogy as a source of authority on the other has until now not been exhaustingly studied. The paper attempts to locate the “passion story of Abraham’s sacrifice” within the Qur’anic development which finally came to rank Abraham as the most significant model of a monotheist believer, a precursor of the Prophet Muhammad. Here, the figure of Abraham at the same time features as a counter-model to the image of Abraham established in Christianity. To blur the image of the emotionally loaded prototype of God Father in the Christian passion story, the Qur’anic Abraham was required to defy any sacrificial pathos (generated by the “un-natural” preference of loyalty toward God over his paternal love) and to perform an act of mere faithfulness – being exculpated from the monstrosity of child sacrifice thanks to his son’s agreement to participate in the act.

This application is designed using the evolutionary prototype model where we are required to have several complete 4-phases prototype model cycles. Several iterations were conducted specially to focus on getting the best storylines for a mathematics learning tool that involves 3D pop-up and augmented reality features. The process is still on-going. We will also validate with experts the storyline and the suitability of the story with the mathematic topics chosen. Once the design is validated, we will continue building the prototype andvalidate it with potential users until all features are satisfied. It is hoped that later this application will be accepted as an interesting learning tool and contribute as an educational learning resource for children.

Abstract:
Infertility is a problem for some couples of childbearing age in Indonesia. This problem affects one-third of married couples, yet the discussion regarding infertility has not been thoroughly heard. This research focuses on introducing infertility to the general public, intending to transform the general perspective, so the problems that occur in the couple's household will not be disrupted with misinformed myths surrounding infertility. The idea is to deliver information through an interactive story that involves the user in choosing the storyline. The research methodology used combines qualitative methods through observations on infertility online forums and Focus Group Discussions. The quantitative methodology was carried out in two stages, before testing the prototype to obtain public perceptions of infertility, then again after the prototype test to measure users’ immersion using a Likert scale. The study revealed that conveying problems through a story that requires user involvement in selecting storylines affects readers' immersion in digesting educational reading content.

Abstract:
In the literature on the issue, the ethnikon Dagestan is traditionally used, which is interpreted as an ethnonym identified with the highlanders of Dagestan. However, the languages of the latter were called Dagestanian only beginning with the second half of the twentieth century. This calls into question the historical subjectivity of the Kumyks who were traditionally called “Dagestan Tatars” as far back as in the 19th century. That is what they are called, along with the Dagestan highlanders-Lezgins, in the “Notes from the House of the Dead” by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Kumyks, under the name of “Tatars”, are also mentioned later - in Leo Tolstoy’s story “The Prisoner of the Caucasus”. A very significant fact is not only the images of the Kumyks in Russian fiction of the time under consideration, but also their historical prototypes’ fame, established by K. Aliyev. These works of fiction include A. Pushkin’s sketches and the plan of the “Romance on the Caucasian Waters” (1831), published in 1881, whose plot was connected with Shah-Vali, the son of Shamkhal of Tarkovsky Mehdi II. Crimea-shamkhal Ummalat-bek Buynaksky, an associate of the first Imam Gazi-Muhammad, was the prototype of the protagonist in A. BestuzhevMarlinsky’s story “Ammalat-Bek”. Bela is also considered to be a Kumychka who, together with her brother Azamat, belongs to the central images of M. Lermontov’s story of the same name. K. Aliyev found the Kumyk prototypes of some participants in the battle, to which M. Lermontov dedicated his poem “Valerik” (1842). We also draw attention to the Kumyk prototype of Colonel Khasanov, one of the characters in Leo Tolstoy’s story “The Raid. A Volunteer’s Story”.

Abstract:
Monitoring water consumption with the Internet of Things (IoT) is a significant innovation in improving water utilization efficiency in multi-story buildings. This research develops a monitoring system on a three-story building prototype, which combines the MQTT protocol, the Node-Red visualization platform, and two sensors: the YF-B6 and the analog water flow meter sensor. The YF-B6 sensor measures the number of pulses from the water flow to determine the volume, flow rate, and velocity of the water, while the analog water flow meter sensor is integrated with the ESP32-CAM module to capture images of the water flow indicator and process them into volume values using image processing. Data from both sensors are sent to the cloud MQTT broker and visualized interactively through the Node-Red dashboard. This system is implemented on a three-story building prototype to replicate the distribution and monitoring of water usage on each floor. The research results indicate that this system can provide water consumption data with an error percentage of 0.2% and an absolute error of 0.03 m³. This system will also be used for the industrial automation workshop learning module to introduce the Internet of Things (IoT) in an educational environment.

Modern Russian film director Vladimir Khotinenko created complex ideological parable in his movie “Pop” (“The Priest”, 2009). He rethought history of Pskov Orthodox mission during World War II in a highly ideological way. He introduced an imagined character, Russian Orthodox priest Father Alexander Ionin whose prototype is Father Alexiy Ionov, a real member of Pskov Orthodox mission. Despite the similarity of their names, there is no real likeness between the historical man and protagonist of the movie. Vladimir Khotinenko rewrote the life story of the clergyman so that is could fit the two major ideological narratives of the movie: the story about pro-Soviet patriotism of Russian Orthodox Church clergy during WWII and the story about ancient Russian sanctity based on the archetype of Holy Rus.

Integrated simple and complete model similarity theory of this structure are set up in this paper. Selection about model reinforced concrete block masonry materials is presented when simple similar model is adopted in testing. Correlations between model and prototype results in basic strength characteristics of masonry prism are reported based on theory analysis. This includes axial compression, joint shear for ungrouted prisms and grouted prisms. The model testing indicated that the structure adopting simple similarity model can accord with the prototype masonry prisms results. The monotonic shear testing of two-story model reinforced masonry shear wall in different compressive forces was performed. The testing results showed that the model structure can accord with the prototype masonry walls results. The shear bearing capacity of model structure is 0.94 times than that of prototype structure without axial compressive force. The shear bearing capacity of model wall is 1.08 times larger than that of prototype wall when the axial stress equal to 1.5 .Model testing and theory foundation adopting simple similar model is erected to carry out reinforced masonry structure.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to present an ideal Qur'anic leadership model, using the perspective of the Qur'an and the interpretation of the story of the Prophet Sulaiman AS as the main source of inspiration. The writing of this work also used qualitative techniques based on literature searches and the Maudhu'i method. This paper concludes that the message of wisdom in the Al-Qur'an conveys a leadership concept that includes intellectual and spiritual capabilities, capabilities for cadre formation and good communication, good managerial capabilities, good social responsibility, and a disciplined and firm attitude. Through revitalization efforts, it is hoped that the idea of a leadership prototype from the perspective of the Qur'an will be a trigger for the birth of benefits in world life, especially in Indonesia. The weakness of this article is that it only discusses the leadership prototype of one prophet's story. In subsequent writings, this study suggests exploring more specifically the Al-Qur'an exegetical literature on leaders in order to explore more diverse and comprehensive Qur'anic leadership values as criteria for quality leaders.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Meaningful choice has often been identified as a key component in a player's engagement with an interactive narrative, but branching stories require tremendous amounts of hand-authored content, in amounts that increase exponentially rather than linearly as more choice points are added. Previous approaches to reducing authorial burden for computer RPGs have relied on creating better tools to manage existing unwieldy structures of quests and dialogue trees. We hypothesize that reducing authorial burden and increasing agency are two sides of the same coin, requiring specific advancements in two related areas of design and technology research: (1) dynamic story management architecture that represents story events abstractly and allows story elements to be selected and re-ordered in response to player choices, and (2) dynamic dialogue generation to allow a single story event to be revealed differently by different characters and in the context of dynamic relationships between those characters and the player. This paper describes SpyFeet, a playable prototype of a storytellingsystem designed to test this hypothesis.

Abstract:
The massive property development of high-rises and complex structures above and below the ground surface in cities indicates the lack of land and high demand to use spaces. However, the existing land and property administration systems are mainly two dimensional and not capable of efficiently managing these complex spaces. As ownership rights on plans are recorded in paper or PDF, understanding these rights and making effective decisions and analyses can be difficult without having experience in the art of reading and interpreting plan information. This paper attempts to address these issues by presenting a prototype for visualizing three-dimensional land and property information. The aim of this prototype is to illustrate and communicate the requirements and benefits of a 3D digital cadastre platform. The prototype is a web-based application and includes functionality to display both legal and physical data, interact with 3D models, display administrative data, identify objects and search objects, visualize cross-sections, and undertake measurements in 3D. For this prototype, a multi-story building was selected as a case study and its 3D model was imported into the prototype to display ownership rights. The prototype was then evaluated by various stakeholders and their feedback was considered for future enhancement.

Abstract:
This paper discusses a work in progress in the development of computer tools for qualitative modeling analysis and evaluation of conceptual structural designs. In the conceptual design stage the description of a structure is incomplete and imprecise, and does not permit the use of traditional numerical analysis tools. We describe a prototype system, QLRS, for qualitative evaluation of lateral load resistance in frames. The primary goal of the evaluation of structural response is to identify undesirable structural behavior. In QLRS, the evaluation process consists of three basic tasks. (1) identification of the story and structure models comprising the lateral load resisting system. We term this task structural system interpretation. (2) Qualitative analysis of the story and structure models, and approximate evaluation of the story drifts. We term this task structural behavior interpretation. (3) Assessment of the performance of the lateral load resisting system, in which the results of the structural system interpretation and the structural behavior interpretation are compared against the requirements for complete load path and relative story drift. Currently, QLRS is able to reason about load path discontinuities and soft-story behavior problems in 2-D moment resisting frames.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the features and functions of artistic time in L.N. Tolstoy “Hadji Murad”. It is comprehended how the figure of Hadji Murad, with minor external adjustments made to the appearance and attitude of the protagonist in comparison with the prototype, turned out to be included in the philosophy of the writer’s life. It is shown that while working on the story, Tolstoy develops a special understanding of time associated with the development of a person’s ability to remember as a process that promotes spiritual unity. To understand the deep meanings of the work, it is necessary to correlate the story of Hadji Murad himself and his memoirs with the fact that the whole story, apart from the Prologue and the last sentence, is the author’s own recollection, supplemented by his imagination. The story of Hadji Murad is constructed according to the same type as all other scenes and episodes in aggregate: on the internal conjugation of exact dates, facts and events with poetic descriptions. The article reflects on the meaning of parallel time in the first eight chapters of the story, the problem of the writer’s choice of the beginning of the work following the poetic prologue.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of biographical and literary contexts of A. P. Chekhov’s story “Gusev” (1890). The study describes the literary and biographical genealogy of the title character. The purpose of the work is to consider Alexander Chekhov, the writer’s elder brother, as a prototype that determines the profane component of Gusev’s image. The story is considered as a “literary gift” brought to Alexander Chekhov from Anton Pavlovich’s trip to Sakhalin. The significance of the genre originality of “Gusev” as a Christmas story is noted, bringing it closer to other similar works by Chekhov. The ambivalent nature of the title character is proved, which combines a dramatic beginning with a comic, travesty beginning. It is concluded that Gusev is an integral artistic image created by the creative activity of the author based on heterogeneous prototypes. The results of the study can be used in the practice of analyzing Chekhov’s prose, as well as in biographical works.

Abstract:
Observed earthquake damage, laboratory tests, and loss analyses have shown gypsum partition walls to be susceptible to earthquake damage under small story drift ratios, which can result in large losses under design earthquake ground motions. To mitigate this risk, a new friction/sliding connection is proposed that can minimize or prevent damage to partition walls for story drift ratios of 1% or more. The proposed friction/sliding connection isolates the partition wall from the structure while providing sufficient resistance to support out-of-plane forces on the wall induced by inertial effects. Test results of three prototype connections and two full-scale wall partition specimens, with and without the friction connection detail, are summarized to demonstrate the improved performance that can be achieved with the proposed friction/sliding connection. Whereas the test of the conventional wall specimen began experiencing damage at 0.1 to 0.3% story drift ratio, the wall specimen with the connection could undergo drifts up to about 1.5% without any damage.

Abstract:
This paper describes the use of stiff-story framing to increase robustness in steel buildings subjected to column loss. Two case study buildings were designed; building A features a perimeter moment frame structure, while building B utilizes chevron-braced frames. The lateral-force-resisting systems (LFRSs) and stiff stories of these two prototype buildings were then modified to create different configurations in order to study which configurations were more robust. A linear static alternate path analysis was performed for each of the configurations, and the effectiveness in resisting column loss was determined. Based on the results from the analyses, two indices that quantify vulnerability and framing efficiency were developed that can be used by designers to evaluate framing alternatives. Cost and aesthetic considerations were explored as well. Evaluation of alternative configurations shows that tying the stiff story into the LFRS and supporting all exterior columns with the stiff-story framing will increase system robustness.

Abstract:
In this paper, the time-history responses of a square plan two-story reinforced concrete prototype building, considering the elastic and inelastic behavior of the materials, were studied numerically. ABAQUS software was used in three-dimensional (3D) nonlinear dynamic analysis to predict the inelastic response of the buildings. Concrete Damage Plasticity Model (CDPM) has been used to model the inelastic behavior of the reinforced concrete building under seismic excitation. The input data included geometric information, material properties, and the ground motion. The building structure was designed only for gravity load according to ACI 318 with non-seismically detailing requirements. The prototype building was subjected to El Centro 1940 NS earthquake at different amplitudes (PGA=0.05g, PGA=0.15g, and PGA=0.32g). The elastic and inelastic responses of the 3D numerical model of the same building were evaluated. The differences between the elastic and inelastic displacements and base shear forces were analyzed. It was found from the results that base shear responses are significantly more sensitive to the numerical model of analysis than displacement responses. The evaluation showed that the base shear force and displacement responses of a two-story R.C. building subjected to severe earthquake excitation are very sensitive to the numerical model used whether it is elastic or inelastic.

Abstract:
Coupled steel plate and reinforced concrete (SPRC) composite shear walls have been widely constructed in the core tube of super tall buildings in seismic regions. However, relevant research progress is far behind the practical application of this coupled composite wall system. Particularly, the current seismic design method does not consider the coupling mechanism and lacks efficiency in the computation of seismic base shear. In this research, the energy balance-based plastic design (EBPD) method is developed and used to design twelve prototype structures considering different structural heights and coupling ratios (CR). With the ABAQUS-based numerical techniques verified by relevant experimental results, all the prototype cases were studied by pushover analysis and nonlinear dynamic analysis to examine the effectiveness of the EBPD method in ensuring satisfactory seismic performance of coupled SPRC composite walls. The results indicate that the coupled SPRC composite walls designed by the EBPD method can satisfy the code requirements on lateral deformation under moderate and rare earthquakes. The analytical average story shear and bending moment distribution patterns have acceptable agreement with the relevant design assumptions. Favorable CR ranges are suggested for the coupled SPRC composite walls with different story numbers to achieve good earthquake-induced deformation characteristics.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the structural and textual changes made by Lev Kassil in the reprinting of the story “Conduit and Shvambraniya”. The material for this study is the 1935 and 1937 editions of the story, two editions in 1957, and the last lifetime edition in 1965. An analysis of the published editions shows the formation of the story “The Conduit and Shvambrania” as a single novel, a single narrative and structural whole, which was not yet the case in the 1935 edition. The author reveals the changes made by Lev Kassil in later versions of the story and offers a classification of authorial corrections: 1) deletions of ideological and political nature; 2) deletions and changes caused by attacks of pedagogical critics; 3) corrections and changes of artistic nature. Lev Kassil was forced to respond to the ideological campaigns that were unfolding both on the national scale and in the professional literary environment (the anti-Semitic campaigns of the 1930s and 1940s, the deportation of the Volga Germans in the 1940s, discussions of “pseudo-romanticism and formalism” in criticism, etc.). Another reason for changing the text of the story was the circumstances of the writer’s family biography: the repression of his brother Iosif Kassil, who was the prototype of one of the main characters in the story — Os’ka. Nevertheless, The Conduit and Shvambrania was the only book in Kassil’s work in which a Jewish theme was expressed.

Abstract:
In his description of the Spiš county Matej Bel describes a vampire story that took place in Stará Ľubovňa in 1718. Michal Gašparek, the protagonist of the story, is the prototype of a vampire, he rose from the dead, made trouble for the living, is exhumed, his head was decapitated and finally he was burnt at the stake. There are several contemporary accounts of the story, dating from before the Prodromus was published, i. e. before 1723. The earliest testimony is an entry in the town book (Liber actorum) by Franciszek Wilczynski from 1718, which is now lost, but the report was recorded by Bertalan Matirko Jr. The second testimony is found in the continuation of the Buchholtz family chronicle by Jakub Buchholtz, who writes that the news of the event were sent to him by his father, Georg Buchholtz Sr. The third testimony was published in the German entertainment satirical-political-historical magazine Der europäische Niemand only a year after the event. The fourth testimony comes from Georg Bohuš and can be found in his manuscript work Historico-geographica Terrae Scepusiensis … descriptio. In the narrative of Matthias Bel all the main motifs of the story are found. Bohuš' work served as the basis for Bel's description of the Spiš county, but this story also confirms that Bel did not adopt Bohuš' text mechanically; he also used other sources in describing the vampire story.

Story shear, drift, and displacement profiles were drawn using multiple excitation records along with damage patterns and capacity curves. The natural frequency of 2.47Hz was calculated for the test specimen, which is equivalent to 1.41Hz for the prototype. Structural damping (elastic viscous) of 12.36% was calculated for the prototype.
